LAJK restaurant Dubrovnik - Restaurant in Dubrovnik, Croatia
A trap. Set menu for 2 is 180kN but water and beer +bread they bring another 180kN. Stay away!!!! Food not so bad but not nice as well. For 360 for two You can have great meal with wine downstairs in nice restaurant.
Not value for money. Food and drink overpriced, charged for bread without asking for it. Portions arent overly generous and the food is mediocre. Prepare to pay more than you would at most of the other surrounding restaurants. Staff were very nice and polite which was the only positive, probably to make it more difficult to complain.
Food was good but they ripped us off. Their credit card machine was not working (even though we asked in advance if we can pay with cardand at the end of the night we had to pull out the rest of our kuna and eur to pay the bill because we could not pay for the bill. The "family member" who owns the restaurant was very kind before we sat down and ordered but at the end of the evening was really rude and unkind. I do not recommend this place. You can get this food in other place but with much better service.
Terrible. Dogs dinner for £90 (two people ordering one course). Menu was highly misleading - says around 100 kuna for 100g of the fresh fish. Turns out it’s that price for 10g. The fish I ordered was tiny - and did not come with the side dish that I ordered. Octopus very bang average. Both came with boiled potatoes and vegetables despite ordering chips. Just generally looked like something a dinner lady would serve at a school using a ladle. Would absolutely not recommend - far better restaurants down the street that were busy. Unfortunately, this was the only restaurant with outdoor space available - probably for a reason!!!!!!!
Be aware that they charge a service charge without asking. Our bill should have been 175kn and they charged us 210.The meals were average. We didnt buy drinks because they were very expensive
AVOID AT ALL COST! Scam. They lure you in with cheaper prices. Staff is really unfriendly. Drinks are not included in the menu and you get a nice surprise of 70kn (9.5€for a beer when paying (we payed max 35kn for the same beer in croatia for all our stay). Food was atrocious for its price as well. Made us pay 40kn for bread we didn’t eat for « service ». Avoid like the pest, hundreds of better places in Dubrovnik.
Full of fraud! We paid 70€ for two people and the food was from the microwave. Ready food was sold to us as family cuisine. A beer costs 10€ and a small coke costs 9€. Never again will I go to these scammers.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!the staff seems very nice, but at the end it comes out they just scam all their clients. The food wasnt the best, but bringing us some bread without asking (we thought it was for freeand then adding 20kn per person to our bill was so unfair. When we tried to get an explanation for that extra 40kn, the staff started to become rude. There is also a problem with drinks - the waiter wont bring you the drink menu, and during paying youll figure out that the prices for the drinks were extremely high (even the water or cola was ridiculously expensive). Once again, stay away.
A straight up scam. They wont show you the drinks and their prices on the menu, and then charge you 60 kunas (8 eurosfor a small bottle of water. They also tried to charge us for the bread after telling us it was included. The food is pretty bad too. Definitely do not come here.
Disappointed. The food (set menu 1 grilled fishwas tasteless including the starter which was a small wet salad consisting of lettuce, tomato and cucumber. Dessert a small dry cake. The worst was that they charged 55 KN (7 EUROfor a 33 cl bottle of water!!!! We heard after we ordered the waitress asking another couple if they wanted water from bottle or tap but she didn’t ask us, nor did she give us any drink list. The waitress and other staff were not friendly neither. AVOID THIS PLACE!
Very bad food, couldnt even finish it because of how bad it tasted. They charge for stale bread, even if you dont order it. The soft drinks arent on the menu, because they charge 10$ for a 250ml bottle.Bad experience, bad food and the tables arent even clean.
Tourist Trap. I wouldn’t recommend this place to anyone. The prices of food look are attractive but at the end they charge you a cover charge for without mentioning it beforehand. We ordered seabream with veggies. It was not fresh and it had a smell as if it had been sitting out for too long. When we complained we got rude customer experience. I am not one to complain when a restaurant is overpacked and has slow service but this was truly a horrible experience.
SCAM!!! We just had lunch in this place and it was a total scam. Besides the mediocre food , the lunch menu claimed to be around 11 euros per person and then in the end the total price was 24 euros per person! An arbitrary value was added for service (non optionaland besides the service was dismal.
Biggest scammers in all of Dubrovnik! The menu didnt have any price list for the drinks and we were taxed with 70 kn each drink and also the bread was taxed by the slice. Do yourselfs some good and avoid this place. The service was quite nice but it was all to mask the overpriced beverages. At the end we estimated a 150 kn loss by scam.
Hello,This is the first complaint I have ever written. I have worked in hospitality for over 15 years.I ordered the ‘Dubrovnik mixed platter’. I did not even eat half. Please do not waste your money here.Reasons:* Frozen fish and veg,* Burnt fish and veg,* Small portion size,* Overcharged, 140kn for bread, water and olive oil!?!? We didn’t even get olive oil* Cold mussels 🤢* Initially friendly service, which turned sour. We calmly informed the server that we were unhappy with our food, reasons stated above. We got this exact reply “ok you finish, you go inside, bill”. I spoke to another server, they just told me I had to pay.Two lovely young woman got sea bream next to us. We could smell it. It was bad. They complained.A family of four behind us complained they said “the portion size would not feed there 5 year old child”.I could go on but I think you know enough.DO NOT SPEND A CENT HERE! It is a SCAM!!!!!!!!!
TOURIST TRAP: Never written a negative review in my life but feel compelled to do so for this restaurant that tried to charge me 20+ euros for a black risotto that looked like congealed blood and tasted like rotten fish. Dirty kitchen, stale bread, sassy staff and intimidating front of house who are a stain on the otherwise spotless underpants of Dubrovniks tourism industry. Stop charging for baby-food quality stew, stop charging for unsolicited stale white bread and stop taking advantage of tourists - you are one bad egg giving a bad name to the city.
I ordered grilled octopuse and it was served in minutes which shows they are prepared to serve dishes quickly. The dish was tasty. Ordered a glass of house wine to go with it. Was a little surprises to pay 9€ for it and 2,5€ for bread I was served without ordering it.All in all the experience was ok if it wasn’t for the fact that every other customer I saw in this place was shocked when they received their bill so it left a bitter taste…
Scammers!! Overcharged!! Ripped off! Check your bill carefully! Tourist trap!!! We had items added to our bill such as 195kuna for olive oil and bread. We found much nicer places to eat with better service. Check very carefully the specials/set menu as they are the same items as on the regular menu but you will be charged at the regular menu price.
SCAM! I can’t believe this place still works! We were so hungry and trying to eat this since it costs so much.. it tasted just like it looks like…
Worst experience, the potatoes in the set menu were not fresh or even sour, the price of the bread and water was not clear as the customer was afraid that the customer next to them would find out and ask them to have to go to the cashier to pay. The food itself tasted very bad. Dont choose this restaurant if you want to have a good time.
Nice place to sit, but quite the tourist trap. They lure you in with a 3-course menu of 90kn, but ‘forget’ to mention the drinks cost 55kn (more than €7 for a coke or water!). Bread is charged extra. Mussels were too salty, tomato soup was inedible (pure pepper), vegetables drowned in garlic. When you pass this place, keep walking.
Food (vegetarian pastawas 2 stars. Tasted like store bought pasta sauce with a couple mushrooms thrown in (see picture).I went to pay and was charged 145 kn (~$21 us dollars). Price on the menu was 90 kn (~$13 us dollars). I talked to the owner about it and he insisted that the menu was a "lunch menu" and that prices were higher at dinner. I asked why the lunch menu was on display at 11:45 pm (23:45and he flipped pages showing me higher prices of meat dishes while mumbling.Generally I try to give the benefit of the doubt but this guy was obviously lying. I wouldnt have left a review for the bad pasta if they hadnt been so sleazy.Pictures of food, receipt, and menu included. Dont bother with this place.Tl;dr food is bad (not horribleand staff scams you
Absolute scam. 90 kn set meal for a sad salad and sour vegetable with 2 tiny pieces of fish. Do not go here, it’s tourist trap and you will pay more than what you ordered. Worst meal I have had in Europe
The price for food (chicken, mushroom sause, riceis good and tasted really well, but all extras come at very high charge (still water, bread, drinks etc)! The prices of these where never written in the menu either. So all and all it seems like theyre trying to trick you with these prices.
At first the restaurant seems like a good place with good dishes and attractive prices. The drink are way overpriced, thee dont give you the drink menu so you only find out when you have to pay. They put bread in your table without asking and charge even charge you for it! Avoid this place, its a scam!!!
The service is amazing, the people are really polite. The food was also great, it feels like homemade. They have an air conditioner inside. Furthermore, the prices are really good.
I wish I could rate this place zero stars. I have just been in the bathroom throwing up from the food I just ate at this place. The service was terrible, I’m not even sure it was the waiter/waitresses fault, they seemed miserable and exhausted. The food was terrible, small portion sizes, strange tasting, not as described on the menu.We ordered:- “Vegetarian salad with grilled vegetables”It was 5 slices of raw zucchini on a plate of dirty wilted lettuce.- “Caesar salad”3 pieces of dry chicken on a dismal splattering of lettuce with some watery mayo.- “Seafood risotto”A tiny bowl of undercooked rice with off mussels and some watery tomato sauce.- “four cheese gnocchi”The only slightly nice tasting food we ate.- “Truffle spaghetti”Unseasoned and bland noodles that tasted disgusting. The worst dining experience I have ever had. Do NOT eat here.
This restaurant pulls you in with great meal deal of 90kn for salad, main, desert. Sounded great the main was ok, salad mainly grated cabbage, slice of tomato, cucumber- poor. Desert very dry cake - awful. However, the worst thing was the extortionate price of drinks. We paid 400kn for the meals and nearly 400kn for two bottles of water, two lemon juices and a coke!!!! Please ask to see the drinks menu, we were shown meals menu not drinks and wrongly assumed they would be normally priced but they were a rip off. Consider carefully before eating here.
Very friendly, but rips off tourists!A friendly waiter greeted us as we walked past; we chatted and ended up stopping by for a beer. While we were relaxing, an Italian family started arguing loudly about their bill. Something like £11 for five small pieces of bread, etc. I think they got some adjustment made. When our bill arrived, it was about £16 for two beers. That is more than the going rate at other local places.
Worst restaurant ever. The prices were not clear. I had to stand up and go to the counter to pay the bill. They wouldn’t charge me in the table. The bathroom was dirty. The price of a bottle of coke was half the price of the whole meal. They charged us 40k for bread (didn’t tell us beforeTERRIBLE EXPERIENCE. Don’t waste your money and time!!!!!
First, let me start off by saying that the fish we had was pretty alright. It tasted very fresh, and after adding some salt, it tasted pretty good. However, the entire time eating was interrupted by two workers harassing everyone in a 20ft radius to sit down and have their sub par food. They will NOT take no for an answer, gets very annoying. Our server was also quite unresponsive and was short with us when we asked about the menu. For desert we had chocolate cake... absolutely horrible. The cake was damp and cold-- and not the good kind. All in all, very bad service, okay fish, and a bad desert. Pay extra and go to mamas pot instead.
THIS PLACE IS A SCAM!! Do not dine here. A friend of ours had come here a few months ago (in the off seasonand had had a great experience. Their fixed menu seemed like a deal so we decided to enjoy our first meal in Dubrovnik here. Turned out it was too good to be true when they charged our table 20kuna a person FOR BREAD (very cheap bread, nothing fancythat we did not even ask for. Two small baskets of bread that wound up totaling to 20 euros as we were a big party. Absolutely ridiculous. Not to mention in the menu itself there is a clear mention of “WE DO NOT CHARGE COVER CHARGE” which they clearly double back on. Very disappointed in the experience here and when we expressed our frustration the service’s warmth turned to coldness. They literally gave upset customers the solent treatment and told us it is “illegal” to take pictures of the menu mention that there is no cover charge. Caught in a lie… DO NOT GO HERE! SAVE YOUR MONEY AND YOUR PEACE!!
AVOID !!The staff is terrible! They didnt want to split the bill if we were paying by card, and they didnt tell us about it before. They refused to explain us why and ripped the name of the restaurant off the check, probably thinking we wouldnt find them. They also charged us for the bread even if we didnt ask for it.Food was good though; the star is for the cook only!
Food is average, but the worst part is the scam. It charges automatically 40kuma for "bread". Stay away from these scammers
Delicious food, good set menu but not this price 90, because when its time to pay ot charges 20 % more for the bread.
Really bad experience! We were charged 20 kuna per person for old bread and were informed of it only at the end (no mention of it on the menu). Go anywhere else in Dubrovnik, you will easily find better value for your money.
The man outside was very welcoming and even offered us a voucher for a free slice of cake. The food was okay for the price. It had one of the more affordable food menus we had seen while in Dubrovnik, there was no drinks menu available, foolishly we assumed that they wouldnt be too expensive. The manager seems to make up the prices for the drinks when you pay. He Charged 70kn (~£8for 1 juice and when we confronted him about the price he was adamant about it being correct. As Considering the food was only 75kn a 70kn apple juice from concentrate is hideous. A vile manager praying on the politeness and naivety of tourists. Would recommend everyone stay as far away as possible from this place and be careful to always ask for prices of drinks.
Probably the best grilled squid I have ever tried. The portions were very generous and the prices are good. We also got a dessert on the house! The staff was also extremely kind. Totally recommend this place.
Food is pretty good with a local touch. Croatian style Nice service for the most part. We asked for a wine suggestion and was offered a very expensive wine that doubled the price of the bill. We were not told of the price while ordering which we should have asked for in hindsight. Kind of a cheap move which made me disappointed. To summarize: Decent Croatian cuisine but watch out for cheap shots
Rip off. We thought it was too good to be true and we were right. Please reconsider and go elsewhere. The owner and one more person invited customers from the main street and handed out a pamphlet that served as a voucher for a welcome drink + a dessert. Both nice.Staff and waitress were very friendly. Food was more on the cheaper quality although they assured it was all fresh. The overall quality of their food just didn’t seem ‘local’ or ‘fresh’. They served a basket of white bread, as all restaurants there normally would. When we asked for the bill, they told us to go inside and look at the computer, as they wouldn’t print out the bill. Everything was in Croatian and the staff rushed through the items. They were charging us 6€ for the basket of bread (they said it’s normal with all restaurants, which we didn’t agree on but they wouldn’t concede), then they were charging us 20€ for another appetiser platter we obviously didn’t order. We had to ask them to go through every item slowly and in English then the staff acted as if it was an honest mistake, although we were the only customers within that hour and they were all focused on us. We paid 91€ for everything even if it felt like a fast food restaurant. My partner and I were so excited about the ‘local flare’ on our last day in Dubrovnik but instead we left with a sour taste.
Service was excellent we ate here yesterday had special of day fish and vegetables wonderful. Came back this morning for coffee, hostess and waitress both remember us! I had homemade tomato soup to die for, hubby had croissant sandwich was also perfect both inside and upstairs seating very clean restaurant
The pasta and grill Seabas were good.Total of 634 kn for 3 people.
Weird and very sketchy way to attract people to the business. It was regular food, vegetables kind of oily and there is something missing about staff training in terms of table organization and extras.( they were very nice thoprobably its a new restaurant kind of rookies
Main dish was okay, even though looked like they just throw veggies on the plate. Seasonal salad was 99% cabbage with 3 huge pieces of cucumber and tomato. And desert looked like it’s a few month old (photo attached)I just hope I won’t get any food poisoning, considering I paid more than 20 euro for this.Do not recommend this restaurant at all!
This is the worst restaurant I have ever met all over the world. Service is really bad, the waiter did not care about us , and they charged 20Kn automatically for each person, 40kn for 2 people. I am always generous with tips, but for their service, even 1kn is too much! The salad is really stale and the salad is served without any sauce and it costs 6€. Excuse me??? I think I was cheated as a tourist. Guys , please believe me , do not come here!!! I am so angry and unsatisfied now.
Avoid at all costs!!!To say the chicken was drier than cardboard would be giving it too much praise. Risotto was just wet Jasmine rice with no trace of seafood. The calamari was likely cooked pre-covid and reheated in a microwave.Service took 1.5hrs, beer was the most expensive I had in Dubrovnik and was a different price on the final bill than advertised.Only reason I wont call it the worst meal of my life is at least we didnt get food poisoning...although have had the squirts since then.Would recommend throwing yourself down the nearest flight of stairs than subject yourself to the punishment of a meal here
Good traditional food, friendly staff.Limited places available but was able to.find place without waiting. The area smells like cooked oil probably coming from the kitchen.
I don’t know why this place has 4.3 stars on Google because it was definately the worst breakfast during our visit in Dubrovnik. Overcooked eggs, bland salad and distasteful coffee. „Seasonal salad” without any seasonal fruits beside of the watermelon. Don’t get fooled by the overall rating.
The meal was outstanding and the waitress was very good. My family had a very nice dinner. The gnocchi were fresh and had a nice cream sauce, my fish had some great flavor, my daughters chicken ceaser salad was just what she wanted. To top it off we had chocolate cake with orange sauce. I would highly recommend this restaurant.
BEST PLACE TO EAT IN DUBROVNIK!A simple, fresh and short menu once again proves best. The meals are fresh, tasty and reasonably priced, especially the set menu for €14. We came back twice and regret trying to go elsewhere for dinner. The service is attentive but not invasive, everything is so flavourful. My top hit was definitely the Adriatic snack, two little open sandwiches with AMAZING fish. After spending two weeks in Croatia, this was one of the best places we’ve eaten.
