LA GÜERITA in San Juan

We sat down and everything seemed okay. Ten minutes into our visit they turned on music like we were at a club and we couldnt hear the person next to us. They turned it down when we asked. The food we got was cold and not cooked properly. The fish tacos were good but that was the only thing that we had that we liked. We had chicken tacos, beef tacos, nachos and quesadillas that we all either sent back or just flat didnt eat. No idea what the other reviewers had but its obviously not here anymore. Avoid at all cost.

The food was good but they were out of many of the dishes (like tacos al pastor, or vegetarian tacos because they were out of beans!). This was at 1:45 pm on a Saturday. The thing that really struck me is that the chef preparing the food was not wearing a mask or any face covering. 😖 I know because the kitchen is open and she was around the restaurant talking closely to the other waiters.

I wish I could rate my food, but I waited so long that I wasn’t even hungry by the time the food. Well at least the drinks were good, just kidding because the server offered me a corona but then they didn’t even have anymore. I do have to say we were a large group of people, but the fact that 4 other groups came in after us, got served food before us, and LEFT before we even got our food was absurd. Do yourself a favor and do not come here.

This is one of the best restaurants in Old San Juan! I got a Mango mojito, Al Pastor tacos, and Carne Asada tacos. The mojito was one of the best mojitos I’ve ever had and the tacos were delicious. The complimentary chips and salsa were also amazing. Overall, I definitely recommend this place!!!

I don’t know why all the excellent food reviews. This was tacos I could have made. Actually the waiter made it, not a cook. It’s a fun place to play beer bong but not to eat great Mexican food by any means

TOURIST TRAP - Overpriced and mediocre food with a tiny menu. Tiny plastic cups of salsa and the tortillas were stale and hard. I know decent options for lunch are limited in the touristic old San Juan area but you can do better than this. For real Mexican go to Acapulco or for a better place in old San Juan try the Avocado restaurant

Hot, hungry, and ready for a beer. Walked by, heard old rock and roll, stopped in and wow! Service, food, and best of all the staff, were fantastic! Will definitely go again when we return.

The picture doesn’t do justice to the burrito, but the chicken and guacamole burrito was fantastic! The service was great, and the bartender helped us learn some usual Spanish phrases as well. A nice atmosphere, and a change from the “tourist” bars close to port. This is a little walk, but worth it to get a little more local bar.

I would put their al pastor taco up against the best taco places I’ve ever been to. This is the hole in the wall you are looking for in Old San Juan, I promise you. Come on Taco Tuesday!Edit: We came back on Friday three days later. Still amazing. Exactly the al pastor taco youve been seeking.

Atmosphere is welcoming. The service is on point. Food is delicious. My one complaint is that the owner is a Minnesota Vikings fan, other than that hes a great guy and I highly recommend LA GÜERITA!!

Delicious tacos, friendly & prompt service!

The tacos were delicious! The service was very friendly and prompt. High recommended and not too far from the ferry. I wish I would have taken a picture but we were hungry.

If you want attentive service, this is it. I just ordered Orchata. Delicious!!! I haven’t had this drink since I left my country, 30 years ago! This drink brings back childhood memories. Visit this place... Old San Juan has many beautiful places to visit.

Joshua COMPLETELY messed up our order. We couldnt even get water after asking 3 time . The salsa taste like tomato soup. I am a vegetarian and meat was added to my queso when I didnt ask for it. Guac was bland. We had to add salt to EVERYTHING!!! The vegetarian options were not available as we were told they ran out of vegetables. Took an Uber 15min for this location because of the great reviews and I was severely dissatisfied!! No one in my party of 10 was happy with their food. The chips were even stale. This place was completely empty and we still had terrible, slow service with nothing done right.

Best tacos I’ve ever had and at a great price. The first day I ate here for lunch and brought the rest of the people I was with back for dinner the same day. I can’t wait to go back to San Juan and eat here again.

Really one of the best tacos Ive tasted. I had the carnitas and conchinita tacos. Good service, and friendly staff. Nice little walk through San Juan to get to this place.

Best al pastor tacos my husband and I have ever eaten (and we lived in San Diego for 2 years and have visited Mexico City). They have the most delicious, unique salsas to put on their tacos such as chipotle coconut (the best one), chipotle mango, habañero, etc. The chef is from Mexico City so he knows what he’s doing. Highly recommend these tacos!

Tastes great but 4 dollar per taco... over priced

This was the absolute best Mexican food I have ever eaten in my entire life. The meat was tender and flavorful, the salsa was fresh, and the three sauces available were something Ill never forget. If you visit San Juan, you news to eat here.

Searched tacos! This was the best decision our group made great food fast service and ambiance, had great mashup music playing too. Started our evening off perfectly!

Service is next to non existent.... The barman had the memory of a broken casino calculator, I had to order drinks twice after a 30 minute wait, second time I just waited at the bar to make sure he didnt forget again. About an hour after arriving the waiter, and I use that term very lightly, I think when he wasnt wearing out the floor in the restaurant he was studying for his maths exam out the back.They didnt have guacamole (Im sorry what?next at the culinary comedy club, the teenager suggested we exchanged the lettuce in our burrito for cabbage..... Very lolz I thought. The cherry on the cake was going to the toilet to wash the cabbage off my hands.... No running water or hand soap. The food was actually reasonable when it eventually came despite lacking half of the ingredients. But yeah, might be alright if you were absolutely spangled or had all day to kill and you were abstaining from any form of liquid.

Its ok. As a full blooded Mexican they could be way better. Its over priced $4 for a taco my beer was cheaper then 1 taco not normal. Needed to add more cilantro and onion to the tacos. Also they serve you and paper plates I would think if your paying $4 for each taco you can serve on a real plate. Also there bathrooms need a upgrade. If you want over price ok tacos then this is your place.

Very poor service. We went in with a party of 9, and we had to split our group up into two different tables of 4 adults and 5 children. After about 15 minutes both of our tables’ orders were taken. We waited about half an hour for our food to arrive, and when it came out, our other table full of hungry children was left waiting. The waitor returned to the kid’s table and took their order again, somehow they had lost the meal ticket. The server did not expedite the order, and we waited over 40 minutes after we had already finished all of our food before the kids even saw their first quesadilla. After making us wait nearly an hour for the food on the meal ticket they had lost, we were still charged full price with no compensation for their mediocrity. I witnessed another table receive the wrong order while we were waiting for our kids food. I do not recommend going to La Guerita while you are in Old San Juan.

Delicious pastor and cochinito. Great margaritas and speedy table service. We went 2 night in a row. The beans are amazing! Chris was personable and had great suggestions.

Great real Mexican food!! All made by hand at the moment. Try the great variety of hand made hot sauces. And the great margaritas with real lemon juice. And its inexpensive. Great cozy place to enjoy real Mexican food.

Simple place, good Al pastor tacos. Fish tacos had a red sauce that was delicious. The kitchen is too near the clients ;/

Great taco specials, make sure you ask for Carlos(waiterhe took great care of us. Tacos were very very flavorful. Be care full with the hot sauce though. Unless you are use to Caribbean or African pepper, the hot sauce might be a bit too much for you. Other than that, the service and food were definitely great!

This place is ok. I wouldnt say not to stop here, but it wouldnt be my first choice. 3 of my buddies and I stopped here late one evening while exploring Old San Juan, and decided to grab a few tacos.Most of the tables were dirty, and we had to wait quite a while for service, and it wasnt that busy. I wasnt terribly impressed. Our waiter was very nice though. Thats what saved the experience. The tacos were decent and they made some good drinks.If your in the area by all means stop, but I wouldnt make a special trip just to go here.

Really great authentic tacos. Mexican food is rare here in PR but these were delicious! The quesadillas are basically small corn tacos with tons of melted cheese. But the salsa (hot sauceis really good

Amazing tacos in a slightly divey spot. Local spot that does deserve your attention, just dont expect much in terms of fanciness or fluff, they focus all of their energy on the good stuff.

There’s no way this place should be as highly rated as it is. Came in seeing all the reviews and expected great food. Well the food was “Meh...” at best. Chips were stale and undersalted. All the taco meats were boring. There was one meal at our table that tasted good. It was a burrito with marinated something or other (pork?). Oh, and then as we’re leaving the “dinner of disappointment”, we see the sign in the window: “$2 Tacos”. Yea, definitely got charged the $4/taco “menu price” instead of the specials price. This place is only highly rated because hipsters love it. And that’s probably because it has an artsy picture of how to eat a taco on the wall. If only it had a picture of how to properly COOK a taco...

Right in the middle of Old San Juan, you find this Mexican food gem.The "Al Pastor" tacos here are awesome. The hot sauces available are amazing and some.of them are not for the untrained tounges. From what ive had here so far, you cant go wrong with La Güerita... Give it a shot!

Food had ok taste, and it took a very long tine and they brought each persons food out as it was ready, meaning the last plate came out 10 mins after the first one. All of our food was served on wood, but one was came on a styrofoam plate which was very odd. The "Horchata" drink was authentic and full of flavor, but overpriced.

This place was by far the best food I had on my entire trip! The beer was cold & fabulous. Their burrito was the best burrito I have ever had. This is a quaint little place I highly recommend you find.This is a place where I want to be a regular.

Love La Guerita! The food is delicious and the servers are very friendly! We were in old San Juan for 10 days and we went to la guerita 7 times! The tacos are tasty and not expensive!

The food was amazing! The carnitas tacos were to die for. The cheese fondue was delicious. The best margarita and mojito we have ever had. Andre took great care of us! I highly recommend this place.

My family and I went to Puerto Rico early in 2017 and today I want to go back! We have not found any Mexican food restaurant we have loved more than this place. Their tacos were extremely good. When we were on vacation in Old San Juan we would go there almost every night for dinner. Must Try!

We were hungry and wandering around looking for dinner when we stumbled upon his restaurant. The tacos were so incredibly good, especially the Pastor taco with pineapple. We ended up ordering a second round and left feeling stuffed, without breaking the bank!I highly reccomend you stop in if you are in Old San Juan.

Paid $23 for 5 small tacos. Only had pork tacos and fish no other tacos available, no toppings besides a piece of lettuce and a few onions throw on the taco. Food was decent but did not have any menu’s with prices.

My favorite restaurant in San Juan hands down. Been at least 5 times and everyone I have taken loves it as well. Most authentic and quality mexican food I have been able to find on the island. Very minor, but the lighting can get too bright in parts of the rest, we had to move on my last visit.

Legit tacos! Conchita pibil, pastor, tinga! And all the delicious sauces from mild to spicy. Service is great. Will definitely be back. Probably many times!

I enjoyed this place. Came here on a promotional Gustazo and food was very good. I recommend to try the El Pastor tacos but the 3 I had, I enjoyed them all. I would come back when visiting Old San Juan.

I admit I have a (too?high standard for Mexican food, but all 8 of us in my extended family think this restaurant is overrated. Cochinta pibil is passable, chorizo is some of the worst Ive had. Agua de jamaica is watery and not very good. Tinga tacos are also passable, but $8 for tiny tiny tiny bowl (3 bites worthof tasteless queso fundido is outrageous. Guacamole also overpriced and mediocre. Pretty expensive overall and not worth the money IMO. Keep walking...

Fantastic service and great food and drinks! Definitely recommend getting queso to start, they bring it to you piping hot with a big bowl of chips. The tacos were fresh and delicious and they give you a selection of 5 hot sauces for your choosing. The margaritas were very well balanced!

Delicious Mexican food and great service. Loved the cheese fondue and tacos.

The quesadillas are to die for! Also the cilantro cream sauce in the squeeze bottle is a must addition to your food.
