Via degli Scipioni, 45, 00192 Roma RM, Italy, Vatican City
Simple, rustic eatery with sport on TV, serving wood-oven pizzas & steaks from an open kitchen.
Very decent food in Rome but they have very Slow service, menus came minutes after we were seated and we waited for the check for a long time we had to stand up to the cashier to pay Not very comfortable seating as I was rubbing my back to the guy behind me and my legs were to the side of the table as it was very uncomfortable to try to sit comfortably.
Sorry but if this is a classic italian pizza, i dont like it..nice service though..All the 3 pizzas we ordered were burnt and had the taste of ash..
Fantastic place!! I really recommend this restaurant if you want tasteful italian food❤️
This place is crazy good. Been here twice in one week and it’s really worth it. Had the steak and mushrooms. Excellent!! The first night had the gnocchi the first night. But will highly recommend Zucchini blossoms.
Had lunch with a local tour guide before we started our arranged Vatican tour. It was recommended by her for local and decent value. Was able to get a small table outside even though it was quite busy. I wanted to try a couple new things so ordered the Suppli and Flore di Zucchi Fritto for an appetizer. They were both decent, although not memorable. As it was mushroom season I went with mushroom pizza for main as I couldnt decide on a pasta. The pizza was tasty although not a lot of mushrooms on it. I did eat it the Italian way with a knife and fork.Overall the food was fine, although I cannot say I was overly impressed. The service started off decent, partly as my tour guide knew some of the staff. But it declined as time went on with the waiter obviously overwhelmed and forgot several times our order, particularly coffee afterwards. I had the advantage of a local to help with ordering and communication and even then I can only rate service as average, so Im not sure how it would be for a tourist.
Great food, they go real heavy on the antipasata but its very good, great feel to the place and real happy and on-the-ball waiter!
The pretty table setting attracted us to eat here but that was where the good experience ended. We were told to take a seat and completely ignored until we asked for menus. Then had to ask again when we were ready to order. There was a complete lack of attention by the staff. Looking around while taking our order as if we were just an annoyance. There was a lack of hygiene, dirt in the water glasses. The food came out and was sub par. Would not recommend at all! Very disappointing experience of the famed Italian food and people.
Great Cacio e pepe and Carbonara, good staff and location. Perfect for a lunch break around Vatican!
Very bad experience. Firstly we eat one piece of dish wash inside the pizza. We had told them and they change another one for us.In the end we think it might be a discount on it but no.Then we argue with them for that.Secondly when we asked the discount the elderly casher told us that we couldnt go back again . THIS make us such angry because thats the fault from the kitchen not us.In the end the women who owned the restaurant asked us to leave and the elderly casher still not saying a sorry.
Fantastic food, ambiance and staff!! Looked like lots of locals eat her too! Definitely is not to be missed!!
We had pizza here on our first day in Rome.We tried bruschetta pomodoro and supli. Supli was delicious and bruschetta was just overbaked bread, drizzled with olive oils and few chopped tomatoes on top. Wouldnt order it again.Pizzas were OK.Service personnel could be better.
Was the second time I visited as the first time we had enjoyable experience from the lovely Asian waiter working at the restaurant and the lovely manager (blonde woman). But disappointed to say the second experience was the worst experience I’ve ever encountered in Rome and one that has left a negative impression. We arrived at the restaurant that had a very long queue which was not the problem as we understood it was Friday evening and bound to be busy. Upon waiting for 40 mins, the manager seated us. After being seated it took the waiter 10 mins to give us the menu. Then after having decided we had to wait another 30 mins for someone to be available to take our order, this is where we started to notice that the service was going to be poor. But what made the evening worse was the very rude and arrogant waiter (quite tall and crooked nosewho we asked if he knew how long we would need to further wait as we had been waiting another 35 mins for our food to arrive to which he shouted “this is not mcdonalds”. We were outraged as we have not come to a restaurant to be shouted at and disrespected at. I think basic manners are key as without it a business is a failure. Also I think it’s appalling that on top of this kind of service there was still a 15% service charge which is a joke!
The food was nice though we definitely got tourist handled. The service started as charming and then they shook us down for service fee. Kind of disappointing. Unless you wanted to be treated like you are a dumb tourist (not my favorite thingRome is a big city. Don’t bother. Lots of other options.
Busy place. Massimo very attentive and energetic and engaging. Strozzaprete very good. Will return. Reasonably priced.
The food is average. The waiting times are long and the staff do not really seem to care informing you or care whether you stay or go. We got charged 4 euros for bread without ordering it and 15% service charge on top. So we ended up paying about 25% more than the food we actually order
Food is good, I’ll give them that.Solo traveler, forget it, they treat you poorly. Also I agree with other travelers, expensive and they know if you’re from the US since they selectively mention tip is not included in the bill if you are. I was hungry and tired so I stopped at this place… probably better places!
Prices in menu are low but on the bill there is 15% servuzi and 2€ per coperte. Bread 8€(!!!was given on start and waiter hasnt asked before. I ordered tap Water and had to pay for it 2.50€. Funny. Meals not bad, but i dont recommend becouse of surprise on the bill.
Please not they charge you 15% for the service without a notificationBread was dry yet editable and they charge you per person on it also without telling youWater is also an exstra chargeThe waiter who seated us was relatively rude but the one who served us was an older and quite polite waiterThe toppings on the pizzas were not evenly distributed and some of the edges were burnt, but overall the pizzas were quite niceThe knives were a little worn so it was very difficult to cut the pizzasAttached is a photo of the capacitor for understanding what we ordered and costsWhile we were waiting for our food we decided to read some of the recent reviews and started to get really stressedWe were very worried that we would leave with a bad experienceAll in all, we had a fine experience
Pizza was fine, but the meat was more fat than it was meat. Besides, the waiters where very unfriendly. Only one old man was very kind, but the others couldnt even bare to say hello or something when you had a question. When we wanted to get the bill we had to pay 2 euros extra for the bread we didnt eat (it was already on the table when we arrived and it was quite oldand we also had to pay 5 euro extra for the servicesfee. The servicesfee wasnt even mentioned, it was only on 1 page (at the dessertson the bottom, so quite easy to miss. I would definitely not go back even though the pizza was fine.
This is a pretty good place near the Vatican that we came to eat right after a lengthy visit to the Museum. The only thing that is keeping this from a 5 star is that the service may have been somewhat slow, but at least the staff was quite friendly. The food was worth the wait though, and we all really enjoyed eating it while talking a lot. Prices are alright I guess, knowing that this is close to a touristy place, the Vatican. Overall a pretty decent place.
I would give this place zero stars if I could, and honestly dont understand how it has such a good rating. I am a big believer in taking recommendations from servers as they typically know the menu best, so when our server this evening suggested a couple of antipasta options, we took them. He spun it as "an antipasta mista--specialty of the house" (11€ on the menuand an evening special of grilled and fried porcini. We quickly realized they were trying to run up our check when they kept coming to the table brining additional bottles of water without being requested (which we declinedand kept pushing a more expensive wine after telling him several times that we preferred Chianti. At this point, we knew that the bill was going to be high, but even still we were shocked when it came. I had wondered aloud to my family why he was trying to upsell us so much with everything given that servers in Italy dont earn most of their wages from tips and only get a tip if the service is exceptional. When the bill came, the "antipasta mista" he suggested ended up being many antipasta a la carta. The 11€ on the menu was a per person charge for a small bowl of rocket salad, rice, and marinated fava beans, for a total of 44€. In addition, there was 15€ for the grilled and fried porcini each (30€), and several other items he had made sound to be part of the mista. All of this would slightly bother me, but I would take it as lesson learned not to take server recommendations in the future. What bothered me the most was when the server hovered over our table after dropping the check, seemingly pressuring us to pay quickly and not check the charges. THEN, he made sure to tell us that the bill was not inclusive of tip, so that should be left in cash. Please, do NOT insult my intelligence and assume that I know nothing about the tipping culture in Italy. If you were going for exceptional service, you certainly missed the bar. He proceeded to stand over us until we got up from the table to watch and see what we left for tip. I have never felt so taken advantage of and felt the need to share our experience in hopes that others will avoid this place or at least know not to trust the unethical staff.
I guess they are not able to handle their capacity or we just had a bad luck. When we arrived we waited a lot until someone asked us what we wish to drink.I ordered lamb skewer with potties. I came with literally 4 very small pieces of potato and lot of very thin skewers. The meet was very fat a hard to chew. I guess they know some other meals better, just saying that this one not much. My wife was pretty satisfied with ravioli. Then we had to wait very long for waiter just to take out the plates and then another long period for the bill which contained 15% raise as service.
The place is nice and we didnt have to wait too long to get our food. The pizza was okay, but nothing spectacular. The waiters were kind and smiling.
Well a well known restaurant for italian food in Rome. Bit crowded. But enjoyed the food. Most of the services guys dont speak english though. 🙄 Go and try!
Good, tasty but small portions of food. What is advised as "for two" its actually for one not so hungry man (subjective, I know). Considering the food was tasty, the size isnt a so big issue. The problem is that you usually dont see written in the menu the included 15% servizio (either you like the food or not)! Of course, the waiter doesnt tell you anything about it ... The real big issue here is that youre feeling scammed!!! I wouldnt mind to have their prices increased by 15% ... thats ok and every restaurant is free to choose its prices, but dont fool others ... thats awful!
The waiter was lovely and took our order with a smile, recommending things without being too pushy. We also got complementary flatbread and lemon cake with the meal which was a nice surprise. Reasonably priced. The only thing that would have me take off half a star is that the pizzas were a bit wet in the middle. Otherwise all was perfect.
The lamb was mostly bones with small pieces of meat attached to it. It was also over cooked. The servers are rarely attentive (at least to us tourists). Should have read more of the reviews before coming here. The 2 stars are because other members of my family enjoyed the pizza
Be aware of their shady charges.Like all other reviews have mentioned, they add a 15% service fee to your bill. They also bring u food you didn’t order and charge you at the end. You would assume it’s complimentary dry bread but they actually charge you without telling you.Would’ve given a higher rating but their shady tactics was disappointing.
This was our best culinary experience in Rome.We had grilled mushrooms, grilled vegetables, Schinken and buffalo, onion pizza and haus wine. On a hot day it was perfect to sit inside and enjoy great food and service.I would give it six stars if I could.
For me it was an ordinary place, the only thing that i liked about this restaurant is the decoration. The food and the service are average.
Didn’t even get to taste the food or order… we were seated down and then left for 10 minutes to read the menu. A group was seated behind us and immediately asked about their drink orders and we were left ignored. Along side this we were raising our hand to order and once someone finally came over they told us they don’t take orders until 7:30pm (half an hour away). Staff was very rude and ignored us and it wasn’t a pleasant experience. We decided to just pay fir the water and leave before 7:30pm.
Awful tourist trap. Extra charges, hidden fees - rewd till the end!The food was ok (except for scamorza cheese which is not worth itthe service was very pushy.Embarrassment comes when you get the bill. For family of 3 initially we were offered to pay 6 eur for bread. The menu says "1 eur per person".This was corrected only when we asked. The bread itself is not tasty and dry, it should not be extra. We have ordered scamorza cheese with mushrooms and prosciutto. There was no prosciutto. When we have asked about it, tjr waiter said "oh i remember, 2 pieces of prosciutto" and brought 2 slices of ham on the plate. Since it wad too late (wr have finished our dinner by thenhe offered one euro discount. The cherry on the top - 15% service fee. Its written at the end of the menu, most of the clients would not go that far. Pure scam, first time we saw service fee in Rome.
So much more than pizza, this authentic family owned and operated Italian restaurant serves incredible food in a fun environment. Highly recommend it when in Rome. Very close to Vatican City
Lello is a gem!! Thank you for such a great service. Exquisite food. Impeccable ambiance. We really enjoy this place. Everything they serve is perfect. No jokes. Everything!! Hope we can come back soon. Love it!!!!
We were late at the restaurant. Unfortunately, the waiters concentration was no longer sufficient. Our ordered drinks were forgotten. We only received them when we asked. Then, unfortunately, a meal was also completely forgotten, so that one person had to wait 10 min. longer for their meal. The food was good. Nice place, but not convincing.
Amazing pizza, dessert and cappuccinos. The pistachio cheesecake & blueberry pie was absolutely delicious 😋. Will be returning for more pizza and dessert this weekend!
Awesome food and patience towards uncertain English speakers. We had one chance of eating in an authentic restaurant and this one sure didnt disappoint! Lovely, thank you 🍕
The restaurant was very nice and inviting. They seated us right away. I believe the owner served us. He took our drinks quickly and later our order. I ordered the kind of spagetti with boar, the fried artichoke, and Macedonia with icecream everything was very delicious. The waiter was attentive and brought everything over all timely. In Italy restaurants give you time to eat, when you are ready you should ask for the check or "Il conto." You do not need to tip unless you recieved great service. This restaurants was my overall favorite in Rome.
Their pizzas and pastas are delicious! The desserts always look so beautiful, they’re too tempting not to try!
I got a gnocchi and it was rather lovely! Very flavourful! Food came slightly cold but it was still okay. My waiter Lello was really lively and made my dining experience more enjoyable
The best Italian and traditional food that we had in Rome. All the flavors were very tasty and delicious. Also the prices were normal. We suggest it for sure!
Very tasty and delicious restaurant.Amazing quality 👌From the appetizers, to pizzas and the deserts, everything was perfect !Prices are very attractive as well.
Very lovely and tasty restaurant ! It has a warm atmosphere !You can find typical romanian food !
I ate the best food here, suppli was soooo good and the pizza was huge. If I wasnt full, Id definitely try some desserts as well.
Cacio e pepe was out of this world. Very friendly staff, the restaurant was highly recommended by our taxi driver.
delicious italian pizza with great topping. tasty tiramisu and pana cotta. i ordered coffee and had to wait over 20 minutes, but finally didn’t get the drink- that’s why 4* not 5*(always 8*)
The best restaurant we had in Rome. The greatest meat, nice ambiance, either inside and outside. Very nice decoration.Close to Vatican City, but not on main streets (so... the best optionand... at an affordable price.Strongly recommend.
15% service fee, €2/person sitting fee... lunch was €160 for family of 5 🙄great service, but not worth it.
Popped in here while waiting for our Vatican museum ticket time. I am so glad that we did. We sat outside and enjoyed wonderful pizza and wine with friends. The pizza truly is wonderful. Service was attentive- and a clean bathroom! Highly recommended.
Food was great and theire located near the Vatican city. We Ordered their pasta and their steak, we liked all of it. Price was reasonable for the foods they serve. Only thing that bothers me was the unfriendly waitress who assisted us to our seats. We were the first customer to enter their restaurant and was not allowed to pick a seat. What made us angry was that She placed us near the walkway where they were still rearranging seats as they were not yet open and we were not allowed to move to somewhere that doesn’t block their way. I had to stand and sit for a couple of times just to let them pass furnitures around. How stupid and selfish. Luckily they serve great food or we would leave this place with a grumpy face.
