Kvalvika Beach Trail Head - Hiking area in Svolvaer, Norway
Amazing place and hike. Very hard trail but worth it
Trekking is beautiful, but it lacks signs and a little bit of guidance.
Beautiful trail. Lots of narrow boardwalks but very doable. We chose a rainy chilly day to attempt it and didn’t make it to the beach out of an abundance of caution due to the slickness of the final climb and descent with our toddler in the backpack. We were very pleased that the view after reaching the pass was still absolutely stunning and worth it even though we didn’t finish. Great hike!
When it is rainy day, the trail is very muddy. Parking costs 100 NOK.
Incredible hike! Really recommend going, but I just wanted to write a review to warn about a couple of things. The trails to the beach and for Ryten are rated easy falsely. Of course it is easy comparing to other huge hikes in Norway but it is pretty misleading. The paths are very rocky and there is an occasional scramble with chain to help. There are definitely easy elements, but I would rate the whole thing as easy-moderate (I.e. still wear hiking boots and bring plenty of water!). Also if you are bringing a car, it is 100NOK for parking.
The hiking was fun. We did not go down the beach because it was too windy.
Great, despite the fog on the beach
Great trail with nice views. Not too difficult
Amazing trail. Quite easy hike
Short little hike to reach an awesome beach.Parking space is limited.
Amazing hike that isnt too challenging. Takes about 30-40minutes each way and is the hardest in the beginning of the return from the beach. However, not too bad and the views are stunning.
Parking at the Trail Head is closed (only space for 3-4 cars). Theres a parking about 800m further down the road for 10-12 cars. The trail took us about 2 hours (roundtripfrom the trail head in wet/rainy conditions. Should definitely be easier by good weather, but the beach is beautiful regardless.
The trail towards kvalvika trail head is quite demanding but a nice trail versus the stsrt from Fredborgs parking place.
If you take the shuttle bus from the old school parking lot (google maps: Parkering Fredvang skolewhich would save you 40 minutes walking to the trail head, remember to check the time table for return. We visited on a Monday and by the time we got down around 5: 30 pm, we already missed the last bus of the day.
Parking is closed at the trail head. (Summer 2021). Its better to park right at the entrance of Fredvang village or at the fedvang school. Many cars are illegally on the side road. They risk a heavy fine from the authorities. There is a very small parking spot for about 8 cars a bit further down (about 600mthe road. But it can get filled up if you are late.
Really cool hike, with big rocks in your path
The trail is not hard to make and has some really great views!
Found 21 shrums nae far up fae the roadside, aboot 150 meters gee or takk! Mossy grun wee spriggots o grass n wild flooers aiwais
Easy hike, fascinating view
We did the hike during winter. We love hiking and being outdoors but aren’t used to the snow, so we were hesitant to try hikes in Lofoten in early March. But I’m glad we did this one!
Great walk even during winter time, it was accessible with snowshoes. However, check forecast and avalanches risks first (it is not entirely flate)!
We hiked into Kvalvika in December when we have been on the road with our Arctic Camper. Amazing place, next time we want to stay a night with a tent.
It is a beautiful hike! I did it in November and it was possible to reach the beach in the few daylight hours there were. However, the night set in very quickly, making the ascend over the icy, slippery rocks a very dangerous endeavour.I came to the beach to set up a tent there for the night, but the strong, cold winter wind made that impossible. It almost blew away the tent.In summer the trail must be really nice and camping there should also be possible. I spotted some older campfire spots and flat areas to camp on when there is no wind.
The hike is just long enough to appreciate the reward of seeing this hidden pearl (that is not so hidden any more). As seen in the documentary "Bortenfor Sola"
Scenic and iconic hike with Kvalvika Beach as a well worthy final destination. Quite busy but Kvalvika is wide and you can easily find a spot where you can sit down and contemplate all impressions and the view. Bring a tent if you’re fine with sleeping outside, plenty of grass fields where you can camp. If you dare I highly recommend you to climb the cliffs over to the southern part of the beach, this allowes you to take a different path back to the car which also are quite beautiful.
Beautiful place, slippery path to it, if coming slightly before sunset take with you a head light
Careful if there was rain 1-2-3 days before, cause it could be slippy and muddy.
Lots of scrambling but nice views. Trail not marked well on the rock portions. This should be rated a hard due to all the scrambling in my opinion. In Norway, anything that the Norwegians say is one level, make it one level more for USA hiking levels. The easy is a moderate, the moderates are hard, and the hards are impossible...maybe. Beautiful views though and beautiful beach!
Trail was well marked. I would classify it as medium-hard difficulty. There is a bit of scrambling and a bit of hiking up muddy hills. The views are worth it.
Very beatiful place and good trekking to reach it
Excellent access to some really nice hiking. Trailhead parking is a bit limited though. Be polite to the neighbors and dont block the road. No rest area or services.
Got a parking spot for the night right as we arrived. Can be full in peak times. There is a clear start to the path to Kvalvika. Took us around 1,5h to hike to the beach with gear and few breaks.
One of the most iconic trails on the Lofoten. Be sure not to miss this one. Also an incredible spot to watch the midnight sun. Great in combination with the Mountain Ryten which will give you a perfect view. The trail head is easy to find and well marked. Many locals camp in tents at this sensational beach.
Great hiking route with sceneric views. The parking lot is usually quite full, so finding a parking spot can be difficult. Parking is free and right next to the trail head
Didnt want to do this at first, especially on our own... But did it and no regrets! Loved it! We started at around 2345 and was back at the car at 2am. There were some steep bits to the hike but not too difficult to do. We had forgotten our gloves so were mostly walking with hands in our pockets! Unfortunately an overcast morning so didnt really get to see the sun move across the horizon, but its all about the journey, right? 😊👍
About one hour hike trough the mountains to a beautiful beach.
Beautiful hike, about 3-4 hours return. Be sure to wear proper hiking shoes as the climb is rocky and uneven. Hiking poles will be useful too. Relatively easy to follow trail, just follow the well used path and there are occasional signs to point you in the right direction.
Totally worth it to walk through the mountains! Maybe you will find the secret hut, next to the beach. Weather should be fine to visit this place. Also recommend a hike on the ryten mountain next to the beach.
It was a nice (not too exhaustinghike to the beach I can recommend. At the Beach there was a lot of garbage (a lot plastic bottles and more). We collected a full bag in minutes. I would encourage people to bring their own bags and collect some garbage. If everyone does just a bit the place would be cleaner and more to enjoy. At the beach there is a swing where you can rest and make nice photos.
We visited the beach in April 2019. It was very beautiful, being surrounded by mountains on all sides, but also very windy. Enough parking on the side of the road for 4-5 cars.
Its not a difficult trail, but is slippery on some places during the winter. Beautiful beach at the end.
The trail was just really beautiful. There was well marked trail , It started of with a bit of climb and them it was walking on wooden planks wherever it was water or ice on the trail. The view along the trail was really beautiful with mountains and lake behind. After reaching the trail highest point we had to go down but it was already dark and the trail seemed a little slippery because of ice. So we decided not to continue. But the view of the beach below and mountains seems so damn beautiful.Total length of the trail is around 2-2.5kms. and its best to do in summers when there is more daylight.
Dont go there while unprepared, mind the weather cause the trail can be very dangerous at moments. I would not recommend taking kids there as well. Its a pretty short hike, but very steep. The view on the beach is beautiful and its totally wotrh the struggle. Personally I went there 20th October and trail was very muddy and slippery, its very easy to put your foot wrong. Be aware of that. I would strongly recommend hiking there in summer, autumn not especially.
This hike is 2 hours up 2 hours down, total of 4 hours. At one point in the trial you are forced to climb up a series of jagged, sharp-edged rocks, through a narrow vertical passageway. It is extremely dangerous, if you happen to slip during that point in the climb you are nearly guaranteed to have serious injuries. To give you an idea, imagine a steep vertical bookshelf stair case, now instead of stairs there are thin protruding sharp rocks that have been carved by water erosion. If you are convinced about this hike, you must bring poles and pack lightly. Also your boots need to have exceptional grip. Good luck!
Incredible place. Jaw-dropping combination of dramatic peaks and wild beaches. It outstands among other Loføten sightseeings. A must-do
Muddy trail, filled with tourists. The beginning was good. Also good parking space right where the trail begins
Very nice beach with a great view. Hike up the montain is quite tough though.
People from the commune help find parking in high season. Parking is free.
A bit Rocky but definitely worth it
Kvalvika Beach is a unique and beautiful place. However, it is only accessible by a 2km hike on a rocky trail. The trail starts accross a small parking lot.
