I really enjoyed the peace and tranquility on this holy ground. Lots of religious inscriptions throughout the temple in the white stupas that is the signature of this place of worship. Enjoyed taking different framed perspectives from various angle too. Definitely a good photo opportunity spot for avid photographers! Also a great place to get in touch and have a deeper understanding of Buddhism in Myanmar. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

There are many inscriptions around the pagoda area that was inscribed of Buddha sermons and doctrines called Three Tipitakha as Pali .Moreover you can see extremely old star-flower trees in there .It is one of the peaceful place of Mandalay city . May I cordially invite you to pay a visit for worlds largest books. That place is so close with North-east part of ancient palace wall.

One of my favorite Pagodas around Mandalay. I’m drawn by the history behind the Tripiṭaka tablets which are also known to be the one of the world’s largest books containing729 kyauksa gu or stone-inscription caves. This place is picturesque, so make sure you to snap a few photos after appreciating the Burmese culture and learning about their history.

I really love this place. This Pagoda is not only famous among Myanmar people but also famous among tourists for a nice instagrammable place. It is well known as the largest book and a popular tourist attraction site. It is a historical site was well and built in 19th century. Now more than 150 years old. You can see on Instagram many people took pictures with lotus between white stupas. Then, just go and take a great picture there.

If you have been to visit the Shwedagon pagoda in Yangon this one will not impress you as much. Still worth checking out though as there is limited things to do in Mandalay. We did not pay anything to enter which was a pleasant surprise.

A very nice place to drop in before Sunset. Around Khuthodaw Pagoda, there are several important buildings- ShweNanDaw monastery and more! Kuthodaw Pagoda comes with a rich history of Buddhism propagation and one of the foundations of The king, who built Mandalay.Tips, When you are there, you can apply "leave shape" thanatkha on your face especially for the lady.

The one with again too many pagodas, but they have space to walk around and get some great clicks! There’s a page to ten book inside each pagoda, making this yeh largest book in the world! Ticket to this included in the wooden Monastry entrance pass. Request everyone to please allow the tourists around with some clear spaces for photographs. There’s ample parking space around at some nominal charges.

The pagoda is a Buddhist stupa In Mandalay built more than 200 years ago. The stupa is about 57m above its terrace and is modelled after the Shwezigon pagoda near Bagan.

Better than average Pagoda in Mandalay. My wife and I visited in January 2020. It was more crowded than expected despite being a weekday. There were several photo shoots occurring throughout the site which made it challenging to get quality photos given the size of the respective groups entourages. The numerous white pagodas where unique and interesting to see. I’d recommend stopping by.

An UNESCO world heritage site which has been branded as the world’s largest book for its numerous ranges of pagodas each containing a page of the Tripitaka, the sacred Buddhist “bible”. It’s a very calm and peaceful place where one can linger under the star flower trees.Toilets are available outside the complex, a short 2 minute on the right hand side of the main gate. There are also plenty of food stalls at the exit. There is enough place to park a car outside.

Entrance is free. Really beautiful and quiet temple. Alot of picturesque and instagrammable spots. Souveniers are usually from 5000Kyats to 10000Kyats. Flowers to place at the Buddha statues costs below 2000Kyats. Entrance has lots of mosquitos so do take note of that.

Stunning place. Walkways built a bit too close to the stupas so hard to get good photos. The book is large single page tablets in each of the numerous stupas. It would be hard to bind those into a book. When we went there renovations were going on.

Very neat set of small white buildings, each with a stone "page" of the largest book in the world inside. You have to walk from building to building to read it. The buildings themselves are very cool to look at even if you cant read Myanmar because there are so many of them.

Browse the pages inscribed in stones here at Kuthodaw Pagoda, the biggest book in the world. Pray at the pagoda... Buy yourself a Thanakha, jade and many more souvenirs... Enjoying every step of the journey. Caveat, youll walk barefoot, just like in any other pagodas and it is really hot depending on the time of the day of your visit.

They call it the biggest book in the world, with each of the 70 odd stupas containing pages of a book in a language that is long extinct, spoken only by monks. I went in April and it was 42C, something to note if youre walking on hot asphalt covered by a thin carpet. I was only able to visit two other places, the Golden Palace Monastery and the Mandalay Palace. I liked this the most of the three

The pagoda is also called “the world’s largest book”, named after the 729 marble slabs inscribed with Buddhist teachings. The Kuthodaw pagoda was built by King Mindon Min at the same time the nearby Royal Palace was built. The Kuthodaw pagoda resembles the nearby Sandamuni pagoda that also features a large stupa and hundreds of inscribed marble slabs, which are contained in a smaller, more compact area. At the center of the complex is a gilded pagoda measuring 57 meters tall. The pagoda was built in 1859, modelled on the Shwezigon pagoda in Bagan. At the four corners of the pagoda are four large golden Chinthe, mythological lions, that guard the pagoda.

A beautiful pagoda near the north east corner of the golden palace at Mandalay. It is known as the worlds largest book due to the over 700 stone inscription caves present on its ground. Each cave has two pages of inscription thereby containing over 1400 pages in total.

This is one of the most beautiful pagoda in Mandalay or even Myanmar. The place holds the record for being the largest book in the world.Although it is a part of Mandalay archeological zone, but no one asked for the ticket. We entered from the west side. You can spend as much time as you wish, but typically one hour should be good enough. The place is near to other major attractions of the city. Some of the pagodas were recently painted and some are being painted.

A quiet peaceful and beautifully harmonious place for visitors, a famous historical place as well as a well known place for photographers. Ladies usually take photos with lotus flowers between the white temples and there are local young girls who sell flowers and give a service of applying thanakar with a leaf shape on ur cheeks. There are also over hundred years old star flower trees.

Kuthodaw PagodaKuthodaw Pagoda is located at the base of the southeast stairways to Mandalay Hill. The Worlds Largest Book The Kuthodaw Pagoda or Maha Lawka Marazein Paya is often called the world’s largest book. It is a large walled complex situated at the base of the southeast stairway to Mandalay Hill and was built by King Mindon at the same time he was constructing the Royal Palace. Its central stupa is modeled on the Shwezigon at Nyaung U near Bagan. The Kuthodaw Paya (Pagoda), or Maha Lawka Marazein Paya, contains what often is called the world’s largest book. It is a large walled complex situated at the base of the southeast stairway to Mandalay Hill and was built by King Mindon at the same time he was constructing the Royal Palace. Its central stupa is modeled on the Shwezigon at Nyaung U near Bagan. An on-site carved tablet indicates that the pagoda’s height is 187 ft 9 in, high, while some guide books list it at 100 ft (30 m). The former includes the platform in the measurement.StructureThe stupa itself, connected to the outside entry by means of a long corridor, is set in the middle of a thirteen acre field of 729 pitaka pagodas or shrines (Dama Cetis). Each shrine contains a marble slab, inscribed on both sides with the Pali script text of a portion the Tipitaka (Pali spelling, or Tripitaka, in Sanskrit), Theravada Buddhism’s sacred texts. Taken together, they contain the entire text of the Tipitaka and thus form “the world’s largest book.” The slabs were carved from white Sagyin Hill marble found just a few miles north of Mandalay. The work of carving began in October 1860 and was carried out in a special hall within King Mindon’s Royal Palace. Each slab is 5 ft ((1.5 mby 3.5 ft (1.1 mwide and 5-6 in. (12.7 – 15 cmthick. The Buddhist scholar/carvers completed their task in May 1869. If spread out horizontally, the slabs would cover a third of an acre (.1 ha); stacked vertically, the ‘pages’ would rise 340 ft (103 m). Originally the lettering also had a gold leaf veneer. The statistics given here are those given by U Tun Aung Chain, retired Professor of History, Yangon University.Several sources suggest the important role of the Fifth Buddhist Synod, which King Mindon called in 1872, in the development of the Kuthodaw. It perhaps was at this meeting of 2,400 monks from throughout the country that both authenticated the texts and began the construction of the encasing shrines.Credit ; Myanmartravelinformayion
