Ive had sushi from this place in the past and great food. However, if you make a mistake on uber eats, you better mentally prepare for no dinner. Completely unwilling to help me with my allergy, did not know the menu, claimed substitutions were not possible and apparently nobody else in the restaurant could use the phone. They wanted me to pay 25 dollars to cancel the order on the app, then just order again. Ive never been so angry at a hostess, poor girl.
Great service and fresh sushi and tempura. Parents enjoyed the banana paper rolls, and I loved the mango avocado rolls.
Please be aware I sat at the Hibachi table with a party of 3 ... when the bill came we were charged 20% gratuity when the menu clearly states grantutity charged for a party of 6 or more. The waitstaff took over 30 mins to bring our drinks which came out after our food was done and we also had to ask them for our drinks. As we left the restaurant rating was not posted on the door it was removed.
Always consistent, the only place where I will get take out & it still tastes delish & fresh.This is definitely my favorite Japanese restaurant

We had reservations for a birthday dinner at 7 pm & our orders were taken at 8:20 pm. We didn’t eat until nearly 9. Food was good, but it was the first hibachi restaurant where you had to pay extra to have noodles & rice, and/or soup/salad. Maybe they were understaffed, but that could have been communicated.
Food tastes good. Clean environment.They seem to know their stuff.
I love hibachi and sushi and this restaurant does both of in a fantastic way. Great food and very friendly people.

This is one of the worst restaurants I’ve ever been to due to the service and the food taste. The food came very cold and the service was very slow. Also, it says in the menu if it’s 6 or more on the same table they will take 18% service tip but we were 3 on the table and they charged us 18% while we were 3 only. After that I talked to them and the manager said this is the old menu 😅 anyway they were upset about it and they kicked us out and said don’t come again!! Very rude staff!!! I really don’t recommend this restaurant 👎🏼👎🏼 not even worth 5 dollars for the sushi. 0 stars rate

Your customer service needs work I was not impressed. I’ll change my rating once you start treating Everyone as a priority even your independent contractors .

Weird vibe as soon as me and my family entered. The staff had been blatantly making comments about my family and I as we walked in and sat at the table. I tried giving them the benefit of the doubt and decided to stay for entrees, but when waitress came over, she was very aloof and off putting. Immediately left afterward. Not a great experience especially for my first time.
My friend and i had hibachi. Chef was entertaining. Food was delicious, portion sizes were a bit small.
We were a small party but they were able to accommodate us wonderfully, great service and lots of fun;
We went for a friend’s birthday dinner as a party of 18. The waitress was rude because we wanted to wait for the whole party before ordering. We sat at a double grill section, but only one grill worked allowing only half of the party to enjoy the hibachi experience. The other half of us who didn’t get the hibachi experience had to hold out our plates for him to run back and forth to get our food from the working grill. It was a big unprofessional and unpleasant mess. For a bill over $800 and $250 gratuity you would have thought we would have received better service. Not someone running back and forth from one area to another to serve us. I don’t recommend this restaurant

Usually I always recommend this place but after my recent experience will never go back again. The waitress sucked I had to keep reminding her to bring drinks, she didn’t check in on our table as often. The chef was the only great thing. Customer service has went out the door especially for the manager she used to be good and attentive. I would not waste another dollar on this place.The one in hamden is much better.
Picked Kumo Hibachi for a get-together with 3 friends from work. We had a reservation and arrived on time. Waitress was a bit on the rude side. Ordered appetizers which came out after the meal. Prices extremely high! Received tab and it had 18% gratuity already added to it. Not usually a problem but when the service was horrible, I would have liked to choose my gratuity. Waitress attitude continued throughout our dining experience. We had a choice and we chose Kumo. Can tell you that we will NOT return.
Amazing food and atmosphere! Owner is the sweetest! Even on a busy night there was always someone checking on our table and getting whatever we requested right away. Will definitely go back :)
The Food is always good, I dont know what else to say. Its 5 am and I just picked up my phone and saw the notification : D. But the food is on the higher end of quality like sushi on chapel. And a fun hibachi restaurant. Highly recommend. TBH. May God bless the hands that skillfully prepare the meals. In Jesus name

Met a friend for a early dinner. Very nice. Cooked the food in front of us even though there were only two of us. The cook was very friendly he answered a bunch of questions that my friend asked he. Pepsi products is always a plus for me.
Went here for Mothers Day, I like the setup. They sat us at a table and after waiting about 20 minutes the chef came out and the grill wasnt hot, he said to wait 2 minutes and disappeared for about 15 - 20 minutes. When he came back he played with the grill for another 5 minutes before I asked if we could move tables because my toddler is getting antsy.... They switched our table, he lit the grill and disappeared for another 30 minutes, I had to ask the waitress to get him. They never apologized and never offered any comfort or discount but glady added an 18% gratuity service to our bill. We were there close to 2 hours.Very unsatisfied and will never go back here ever again, worst $92 lunch experience for 2 adults and a toddler EVER! Horrible.
WORM FOUND IN FOOD 🤢 .I recently just dined there with my girlfriend and we both ordered the seafood soup. We’ve ordered this dish before so we knew that the dish was going to be exceptional. Once I started digging in, my girlfriend noticed a small object floating inside of my bowl. Once we took the object out, we realize it was a WORM!So what does a customer do once they see something in their food that they didn’t order, considering it’s an insect? The customer shows the waiter what they found in the dish; which was done by me. The Waiter then goes up to the manager to let her know what is going on. The manager sees what’s going on and does absolutely NOTHING but tells us the WORM is in there because of the vegetables (yea we knowstill not a good reason for why I see a WORM floating in my dish!!! She then gives us our bill and does NOTHING to help accommodate our situation at hand. I saw the waitress actually talking to the manager about the bill. I don’t speak Japanese but it looked like she was talking about the bill and the manager DID NOT CARE and took the money and ran. So for their NEGLECT in customer service, they should be REPRIMANDED and made example for future use. Both of our meals were barely touch because we were both turned off seeing a WORM floating in my bowl. If the WORM wasn’t ordered then wouldn’t the logical thing to do at your place of business is to apologize and refund the customer. All I got was an explanation why it’s in there and to make sure I pay my bill. Kudos to Kumo !
We waited more than half an hour before they served us our appetizer. We ordered 1 hibachi entree and a couple of sushi rolls and we had to wait for the tables to fill up with people before the chef could start cooking everyones hibachi entrees. I understand this, but waiting over an hour and a half is a little too long for us. We also had to wait more than half an hour for the sushi.But what made the night much better was the chef, he was absolutely amazing! I honestly wasnt going to return, but he was so much fun and hes such a great chef that he made our night! Ill definitely come back but I can only recommend this place if you dont mind the long wait.
I wish I could leave zero stars instead of the one that is the lowest rating. I recently went to this restaurant and my husband and I will never go back or recommend this place! The service was so poor and the food and drinks were awful. The employees lack kindness, respect and common courtesy. When we voiced our concerns we were ignored and mistreated by the staff. Gratuity was added into the check and we were a party of two which I’ve never seen.
I would give -5 stars if I could for the worst table service tonight. I took out of town guest to eat at this restaurant tonight and after paying close to $500 for our dinner when we asked for more water refills we were told we spent too long at the hibachi table socializing and asked us to move into another room for the dessert to come out. During dinner we had to constantly ask for drink refills. The table service was one of the worst I have ever experienced. Will never go back!!

Aww Kumos 😍. This place was closed for awhile due to a fire, so happy theyre back! Correct me if Im wrong but I believe they are the only hibachi place in new haven. Ive had many family dinners here in the past. The staff and owners are super friendly and accommodating and unpretentious. There is a LOT of space, long bar and big dining room. I wish they were busier because it truly is a gem. Food is fresh and the people are nice...what more do you want?
Been here before it burnt down and at that point I would have given it 1/2 stars, but this experience was great. The chef was impressive with his knife skills, but more importantly the food was fresh. I had the seafood teriyaki that consists of shrimp, lobster, and teriyaki. It was delicious 😋.
my all time favorite hibachi restaurant! the staff are super polite. Im a super picky eater and like my order very specific. if you have kids that are picky or you yourself are this is a wonderful place to go! plus to tastes amazing! fried rice is my favorite!
Wonderful experience from entering to leaving. Staff is friendly and gracious. We were welcomed to sit and peruse the menu. Theyve also extended the dining area. I love the ambiance. The food was amazing and I will definitely go back. They also have parking nearby. I think you enter on State Street for that. I walked from Church St. Everything is also packed well. Im just sorry I havent visited sooner. They really deserve more attention. The hibachi area 😋 should be my next stop but yall dont want to stop COVID-19. 🙄
Excellent rolls and high quality sushi, one of the better places in New Haven. Placed the order for take out and all food arrived nicely packaged with care, and portions were very generous and the rolls and sashimi very fresh and delicious.
Went twice last week and both times were amazing. Super nice people, chic atmosphere, great food. Call before you go to the Elm Street location as I think they had a little fire so they might be renovating for a bit. Feel so lucky was able to enjoy this fantastic food and looking forward to returning soon.
Stopped for lunch on a Saturday and chose tables rather than hibachi service. Split two special rolls. They have a tremendous variety. If you can imagine a combo, it is on their menu. We enjoyed both the rolls and the service. Recommend!
The sushi was delicious. The prices are very reasonable. Very family friendly atmosphere. They make the sushi fresh. The sweetpotato sushi was one of the best I have had in a long time. Its hard to get parking. There is only meter street parking. So give your self some extra time. You might have to circle around a few times depending on the day and time you choose to visit. Enjoy
Food was good but the customer service SUCKED! The place was empty when my family and I arrived, once we were seated another family walked in and was seated with us ,( which wasn’t a problemthe waiter asked the other family what kind of drink they would like, and completely ignored my family until I gave him a weird look, (mind you we were there before the other familyas he walked off he then said oh did you guys want drinks. They acted if we weren’t even there, although I don’t like using the race card, this was a time I felt that the waiter was being racist! I’ll never go back there ever again
Super yummy food and gorgeously served. Desserts where even better! Staff was friendly enough and atmosphere was clean and modern. Clean restrooms and dinning areas. Like that the hibachi is separated from the sushi and dinning areas. There is also a large bar and a sushi bar.
My favor sushi spot and the habachi chefs are always fun and staff is always a pleasure
Great lunch special deal & always pleased with my order! Parking can be tricky in New Haven but thankfully they have a parking lot & they also deliver which is very convenient! Any time I have gone or ordered for delivery Ive always experienced great customer service!
I havent been to Hibachi in years so I thought it would be really fun to do for my birthday, especially since my dad had never gone before. We went there on Monday night so the place was naturally pretty empty, but as soon as the chef came over with our food and his music everyone was immediately excited. He put on a great show and really made us feel entertained, we all had a lot of fun. And the food was even better than I expected. Id never tried this kind of sushi pizza, but it was delicious
Very delicious. Looks like a small restaurant but its actually huge! Great menu and it tasted great. I had the fried banana dessert and it was amazing!!
Food was great, but service was a bit lax, I had to wave down a seperate waitress whenever I needed anything.
Had the sushi, not hibachi. The portions are large for non - sushi items (edamame, riceand normal for sushi. Quality was normal-good.
