Casual family dining with Hawaiian food, plate lunches & homestyle desserts.
We went there to try Laulau. It tasted good. Since I never tried it before could not compare. Our second dish was calamari steak and it was delicious and very soft.
Nice friendly service. Had the grilled fish Ono and it was good.
Great portions of delicious food. Quite a big selection of options. They offer breakfast menu all day.
Waitress seemed inattentive to needs of her reserved table, group guests or needs improvement on waitress etiquette -- menu-sharing, no water offered upon seating, mistakes on order.
The Kailua pork was delicious! Prices on google maps are not accurate but they are still very reasonable.
The food here is really good! We tried the famous one pounder. This is a lot of food, so come hungry!
Amazing eatery, staff are super friendly and efficient. Laulau was amazing and they sell them to take home for 10 bucks! Poke was great too. Lived here a while and only regret was not finding this place sooner!
Got two Lau lau to go since we are in the rush. They are definitely one of the best things we had on the island. Meat is so juicy and tender. Taro leaves are surprisingly delicious too!
The lau lau here is life changing. So great that we went twice in less than a week, and still tall about it 6 months later! Both the pork and chicken versions are delicious- you cant go wrong!
good food, kept their restaurant and style the same way its been for years! part of the reason of why people love this establishment.
Great attentive and friendly wait staff. The food was mostly very good but some of the side dishes tasted bland for some of our groups taste buds. The pork and beef Laulau was very good but a bit salty for me although the Laulau of my wife was not salty so it might be related to the location of the food when it was cooked. Overall a good choice for eating some local food while in Hilo. Fairly busy so it must be good.
Hostess Eunice was super sweet and the bread pudding was the best I have ever had. She said it was their own recipe. I had a grilled fish (Mahi mahiburger which was delicious along with a salad and their homemade dressing. Best restaurant on the island.
Fried Rice Loco Moco was amazing. Also got fried chicken skin for appetizer, not a lot of seasoning, but fried perfectly.
Someones fingers in my taro hash patties and we ask waitress if I could get a replacement and she said no thats the last one? Food was delicious but service was horrible!
Wanted a good Mac salad and this place did not disappoint with their addition of potatoes to make a mac/potatoe salad combo.I got the Shrimp plate and it was delicious. Tarter sauce was sweeter than I have had before, but still really good.Service was excellent and the waitresses were very attentive. The food came much quicker than I expected it to.
Old school vibe. Lau Lau was very tasty. Service was great. Good choice as a lunch stop.
Love that the food was NOT oversalted, the flavors were more than enough. Large portions, be sure youre hungry! My brother got what we thought was regular sized, his LocoMoco arrived in a large Pho bowl!😂 Try the chili water.
I visited my home town Hilo...but...waited an hour for an open table for this???Granted the long wait was because we had 13 in our party, so we sat in 3 different areas, as tables became open, but one party of 4, where we could have all seated together, decided to talk story after they ate...which for the record is fine...but to dine and talk for nearly 2 hours, while theres a bunch waiting to eat outside???lacks courtesy and awareness, to say the least...not to mention, that the manager on duty didnt even attempt to ask them politely, if theres anything else theyd like to order, and if not, could their table be used by patrons waiting...there are ways to do that in a nice way...When we finally got seated, our waitress was unfriendly and unprofessional, so much so that she later apologized, but still didnt give good service throughout our meal! Finally the food comes and the attached photo is what I ordered...bland and meager portions...forget eating at their Kaimuki location!
Can’t beat the prices. Large portions. Seems to be a lot of locals eating here. I had a loco - without gravy. I’m sure they were shocked to their lava core. Waitresses are not overly friendly. Kinda get the job kinda deal. Soda and tea have zero refills. That should prob be explained up front. No prices for soda on the menu that I saw.
Great place for brunch. There are so many different kinds of food, American, Asian, Hawaii… though the sukiyaki I ordered is not that authentic, but good enough considering the price.
Not busy when I came, was seated fast, and staff were friendly. I enjoyed the kanak atak. I liked the fried rice and the luau meat. I asked for a side of Mac and that was great too in combo with everything. Very good will come back :☺️Also had the chicken sukiyaki, and French toast was very good too! Service was great despite being busy!
Go here for the authentic Hawaiian experience! The laulau is juicy, and goes well with the fried rice. The portions are generous and will definitely leave you filling very full. The servers are attentive and friendly. The chicken katsu was cooked to perfection as well and had delicious flavor.
Very friendly staff and clean restaurant. Great place to take a break to sit down and eat in Hilo. Prices are very reasonable and resemple what I would pay for a meal in my home state of Ohio
The lau lau does not disappoint! 1lb of freshly made heaven. We also tried the chicken long rice (from the specials board), saimin and Kahlua pork.Everything was seasoned to perfection! The salads are crisp and fresh and they offer brown rice!Definitely stop by if you would like a quality Hawaiian meal.
Great food. Massive servings. Fair prices. Clean. Good service.
I may have rated this place previously. I did not rate it when we went 2 days ago, so I dont know why it has that I rated it at five stars. I would probably only give it a rating of four stars this time, because the crispy ginger chicken that we ordered for my palette and my husbands had too much Ginger and it had a lot of green onions which my husband doesnt like, we did not know that it was going to have so much Ginger or green onion on it. It was overwhelming for our taste.
Very friendly service.Nice local dishes.Food quality was so so.Salad greens were brown.Salsa or whatever tomato condiment was greyish.Food seemed underseasoned and merely acceptable.Wouldnt recommend it, unfortunately.
Horrible! Went in to have lunch, decided on special after we had to ask what it was. (Korean chicken n fried riceFood came out smelling like raw chicken when my son ate a piece of the chicken he said this taste like seafood it stinks. We needed to k own due to allergies. And yes it did stink very bad! Called the waitress n her response was we should have told her before we ordered in which I said there should be a notice you cook everything in same oil!!!!!
REALLY good! If youre looking for local eats come here. The food was delicious and affordable- we had the pancakes, the Loco moco, the lau Lau and the saimin- Id recommend all of it! Plus cheap beer and fast service. Well be back!
This is definitely a no frills local spot. Food is good, traditional Hawaiian fare with generous servings. I had the combination plate with teriyaki pork and hamburger patty with gravy. It came with macaroni salad and I upgraded to the fried rice. Lots of starch and very filling. This is not a place to go to if you’re trying to watch what you eat. Service is friendly and attentive.
I had the KG#3 breakfast combo and it was well worth it. My breakfast date had the KG#2 breakfast combo and the pancakes were the best on this side of the island. Well be back!
The lau lau combo (fried rice + slow cooked pork and beefis so good! The meat is tender. Leave is editable so don’t need to worry too much about peeling off. Location is amazing as well. Looking out to a park and there is outdoor seating as well.
It wasnt that hard to find, located behind American Savings Bank. Sign is on rhop of the restaurant by the entrance, so if your looking for the sign. We entered and the restaurant was 1/2 full, smiling customers with a soft murmur of Ohanas talking. It felt like you walked into someones home, and felt welcomed. We got a booth by the window and our waitress gave us a menu and asked us for our drink order. We scanned the restaurant to see what other people ordered and what was popular. We saw the chill fridge with an array of delicious looking desserts, I wish we werent full so we couldve tried one, lol. My Son ordered the Kanak Attack which had pork/beef laulau, Kapua pig, white rice, Mac salad, lomi salmon, poi and haupia. I orders the surf n turf plate which was a steak, panko deep fried shrimp, white rice and Mac salad with a fried saimin. Our order took about 20 min or so, but it was worth the wait. We couldnt finish our plates and wish we couldve taken it but we werent going home yet.The service is wonderful, they check on you while your waiting and 2-3 times after you receive your food. The negative of I have to make one would be their drinks arent refillable, my Son drinks 2-3 refills so to have to order another drink at full price was not a plus for us, I guess were used to free refills in Kona, lol.Wonderful, friendly staff, clean restaurant. Even the bathroom was clean, the menu is big with so many varieties to choose, from breakfast, brunch, lunch or even a quick bite.It was a great visit to a local restaurant.
Very fast and courteous staff. We had the Laulau and it was better than advertised. The fried rice portion is huge. My wife and kids liked the chicken skins.
Friendly staff with speedy service. Let me preface this and say that I cannot comment on the food too much because maybe my Californian taste is different from what these different foods offered and I did not really enjoy anything that I tried. I tried the Hawaiian, mixed plate, and saimin bowl. They were all edible and the bowl was probably the better of the 3 but all in all the food seemed bland.
Customer service was great there very polite service is efficient and fast. We ordered shrimp tempura they were large pieces, Hawaiian Lau lau, poi, lomi salmon great portions & chicken sukiyaki everything is very tasty loved the food.
Amazing food. Generous portions. The ladies are very kind. 20% tip each time I visit.
I really enjoyed the Laulau plate. Lots of delicious Kalo leaf, enveloping the juicy port on the inside. The waitress brought some chili water and I added it to my water and laulau plate.
Loved, loved this restaurant! The food is delicious and nicely priced. We ordered a variety of dishes and they all tasted amazing; The Kalua pig, Yakitori Chicken and the famous fried rice are a must try. The food isnt heavy or greasy which is nice because you dont feel tired after eating. The inside is very clean and so are the restrooms, the staff is very welcoming and the cooks had the food out in a short time. Thank you for the wonderful experience!
We ordered 1lb Lau lau and Loco Moco. Lau Lau was really good with lots of flavors. Food was served fast and service was friendly.
Food was excellent, servers were great. I ordered the classic loco moco. Too much for me to eat. The classic had fried rice vs. white rice. Nice atmosphere. Fantastic restaurant to enjoy brunch with family and friends.
First of all, I love how they got plenty of parking in here. Less thing to worry, right? We weren’t greeted immediately upon arriving coz staffs here are pretty busy and occupied. Totally understand that! Then minutes later an Asian guy came and guide us to be seated. The location is pretty spacious.Food is good but laulau is way too salty. Mac salad is good though and the tossed green salad is fresh with a tasty dressing!Home for a pound of laulau you’ll surely don’t wanna missed it!
The food was tasty and generous. I had the 1# laulau and husband had fish. Most of the food (except fish & fried ricewas barely room temperature. It would have been n8ce if it were a little warmer. Staff was attentive.
Very good local food! Highly recommend out door seating with a nice view and friendly service and alcohol
Food hit the spot after a workday visit to Big Island. Staff was friendly and following COVID-19 protocols. Busy place, good amount of parking. Food was great chicken katsu favorite.
Hands down the best place to have Loco Moco on the island! This place is famous for their Laulau which we ordered as well but their Loco Moco is by far the best one. Recommend getting their fried rice as well which was great. Also tried their mix plate with Katsu and various Hawaiian barbecue. The staff is also very hospitable. A must stop when you visit!
We specifically chose this restaurant because we wanted to try laulau and poi for the first time. We got the laulau plus fried rice and then the chicken skins. All of the food was delicious and enjoyable. We ordered takeout and the meal was prepared very quickly! Would recommend if you want to try some great Hawaiian food.
I liked Kuhio Grille. It’s a low key diner like place in Hilo that offers all your typical Hawaiian fares. They specialize in lau lau and fried rice so check those out when you visit. I went for the KG Original Fried Rice Loco Moco with a side of spam. It was good. The gravy and hamburger patty could have used a little bit more seasoning but the fried rice made up for it. I enjoyed it. I’ve heard Kuhio Grille is usually busy so make sure to plan for a wait. I went on a Sunday so it wasn’t that bad.
The staff here is so nice! Such a huge selection of different dishes and they are all so good. They have traditional island food, Chinese food and standard American food. All day breakfast. They have air conditioning, and enough staff that I never felt neglected. Great prices to go with great portion size. All of our group left satisfied and happy. Yummy potato mac salad and homemade dessert options. They also have catering and to go available.
Good service and food. Lau Lau is definitely the dish to get here: the taro leaves peel cleanly off the meat, and the meat is cooked just right - no stringy meat here!). The grilled ono was also pretty good, and the fried rice is good too, albeit different from your usual fried rice, since Im pretty sure its not wok-fried. Prices are a little more expensive than your usual takeout plate lunch place, but thats to be expected from a full-service restaurant and the quality and portions are still there.
