Two words: SUNSET ROLL!! My wife and I took advantage of not having the kids with us and went out for sushi. She found this place and it looked pretty good at face value. This has been one of the best overall sushi dining experiences I’ve ever had, and I eat A LOT of sushi. The waitress was such a sweetheart. She apologized twice “for the wait”, even though it didn’t seem to us like it took that long. The sunset roll, as I mentioned above, nearly made my eyes roll back in my head. The combination of sweet and spicy was a grand slam. We will definitely be coming back, and highly recommend this place to all fellow sushi lovers!

Dont judge a restaurant by its pictures. The actual food tastes nothing like youd expect. Their fried calamari is so over-seasoned you forget you ordered calamari and start questioning your choices in life. Just when we thought theres no way to screw up fried calamari, Ku-ru found a way. And they executed it perfectly and by perfectly I mean the calamari tastes horrible. Their sushi is more dry than Demetri Martins sense of humor. The "fresh" fish looks so anemic I now have a newfound respect for the hard work the Red Cross does. If you find yourself in Hickory and craving Japanese, dont. Just dont. Find literally anything else to eat.

Some of the best sushi around! Super friendly staff, the food is always fresh and delicious! The cucumber salad roll is one of my wifes favorite things to eat.

Pretty good, with your usual speciality rolls. You have to scan a QR code to access the menu, which may confuse a few Boomers, but do Boomers even eat sushi???

This is our absolute favorite restaurant in Hickory and one of our top picks of sushi restraunts in the region. We try to vome once a week as our schedule allows. The hot papa roll is amazing and the crab rangoons are phenomenal.

This place was fabulous! The food was delicious, the presentation was gorgeous on all the sushi rolls, and the service was above and beyond. Our waitress Kelly was so superb, we enjoyed eating here so very much and have nothing but nice things to say about it!!!

I enjoyed my visit. Very nice well lit space. I was seated and waited on very quickly. Miso is given to you when your seated which is nice. Waiter was very nice and kept checking on me the whole time so that is good too! I had teriyaki steak that came out quick but could have been hotter temperature wise. Portion was a bit smaller compared to simular places. Maybe a bit more sauce was needed to cover the steak. None of these three concerns warrant removing a star but I feel it does deserve mention.I also had a spicy tuna roll which added a star for me. The spicy was very well balance with the ginger. The flavors were very clean and fresh which makes it very good sushi! I would say that Ku-Ru is the 2nd best sushi in town but it is a very close 2nd.I will go back and enjoy it again.

I normally love kurus. But today I was very dissatisfied. I called in a to go order at 6:15. I ordered 3 rolls and teriyaki chicken noodles. We waited the time we were told and pulled into drive thru. Several times we were told they were waiting on the entree. At 7:30 she opened the window again. My husband asked for a refund. We had been waiting so long and all the cars behind us drove off from the wait. I repeated that I wanted a refund and she said, let me ask them how long it will be. Then comes back saying just 5 more min. Are you sure you want a refund. I just wanted my food to be honest. We were hungry. We got the food at 7:34. We get home and realize she forgot a sauce cup but it happens. We got to eat the lobster roll. And normally it is still warm from frying it but this time it was cold. I dont normally complain but this was all around a bad experience.

We had it really nice time the food was excellent its staff friendly and our waiter was exceptionally well trained trained in sushi, Lots of other dishes I would like to try still. And a FYI to my fellow service men and women they will give you a veteran discount if you ask.

If the fish is off, & the rolls are bad just throw a ton of ginger at them, & theyll be fine

A pound of ginger doesnt make up for that fact that this is the poorest rolled sushi Ive ever had. The presentation is terrible and the taste is lacking. Will not try again.

They dont open for dinner until 5pm, so we had to wait in the parking lot for 10 minutes. The restaurant was clean and wait staff were friendly. They kept drinks filled. The rolls were very affordable. I really liked the sauce for the crab Rangoon. They were not busy at first but when we left they were filling up.

LOVE!!! They are so nice yall… all staff go above and beyond to be kind and happy!!! The food rocks (love their sweet tea & miso soup). But the best part? THE PRICES. We got two appetizers, two drinks, and two entrees for $20!!

Went here for sushi with some family members, had a good experience. Had to wait a bit for the sushi to come out but it was worth it. I got the Volcano Roll, Yellowtail Tamachi Roll, and Sunset Roll - they were all great but the Sunset roll was definitely the best.Tip: Try the Sunset Roll - it is the best on the menu and very unique!

Was very happy to have found Ku-Ru Sushi and Grill! Walked from a nearby hotel and was expecting a small seating area and more fast food type environment. Though small the food was amazing and drinks were spot on. I the prices were very good as well especially for Sashimi, I would recommend this place to anyone and definitely will be back. Thanks for a unexpected great meal Ku-Ru!!!

This place is small but awesome! Our waitress, Kelly, was probably the best weve ever had anywhere. She was super friendly and attentive. Everything we ordered was amazing, also the best weve had in this area for a very long time. I cant believe I didnt know this place was here sooner.

Love this place! Amazing original and classic sushi options! Really awesome staff, QR code menus, and a really cool place to hang. The restaurant is small in terms of location, but it adds to the charm. Highly recommend.

Been craving sushi for a long while, and this was the perfect place to stop after a long day of running around. Our host was very well mannered. Our food was FABULOUS, and our overall experience was great

All around wonderful experience! Delicious sushi and hibachi, steak was cooked to perfection & loved the sunset roll. Really clean place and our waitress was sweet & service was great. They even have cute signs! We travel from Asheville to Raleigh often and honestly this is now one of my favorite Japanese restaurants in or between either place!

Does not show that there is NO dine in. Website says open at 12:00 noon.🤦‍♀️ Waited 30 min to find out we had to go somewhere else. No signs on the door that were readable from the vehicle. I also don’t appreciate your rudeness in your response. I was a customer! Your prices on the online menu DO NOT match that you are actually charging more.

I usually love eating here, however this time was disappointing. My order was placed incorrectly w the kitchen and after it was sent back and returned, my steak was cold and plate was double drenched in teriyaki sauce. It was definitely a letdown as I was anticipating a great steak broccoli dinner.

I have never written a review let alone a bad one for any restaurant but I feel like I need to share. This was my second time going to Kuru and I really enjoyed it the first time so I invited my mom out for dinner. It was her first time. After being seated and had placed our order we noticed that people who were seated after us had already been taken care of and had already left while we were still waiting for our food. More than half an hour had passed and we had no update on the food. My mother had brought this up to our waitress and asked to speak to the manager. Little did we know that she was actually the manager and she blamed being short staffed and having many to-go orders was the reason we had not been served yet. I find this unprofessional and disrespectful. I completely understand having to-go orders and being understaffed but this should motivate you to pick up the pace and have good customer service. Dine in orders should be as important if not more important than to-go orders.

The best Japanese place in hickory by far! Service is always super nice and fast. I usually get the hibachi chicken. The rewards system they have in place is also very helpful and easy to use. I also tried the crab rangoons tonight. Best ones I’ve ever had. My meals are always under $10 with a tip too. Can’t go wrong here!

We had really good Sushi for a reasonable price. The Sexy Dragon Roll was a blast. The Cerviche was the perfect Starter. We will definitly come back soon.

We always enjoy coming here. Love the 1/2 off selected sushi menu on Sundays. Our favorite is the cherry blossom roll, which isnt pictures here. The kids portion is good.

This is the best sushi in Hickory. Never had to wait. The waitresses are very friendly and prompt. Very nice atmosphere. Had another great lunch here yesterday. Nice lunch specials on sushi. I got 3 rolls for $12.99. Crab salad was great too. Keep it up. I highly recommend stopping by here.

I love this place! Where do I even start.. first, the sushi is perfection. The entrees are very well prepared. The building is very neat and clean. Awesome wait staff. My absolute favorite Asian restaurant. Ku-Ru > kobes👍👍

Tangerine Dragon roll for lunch was amazing! Ill be back tonight for something else!I did go back... Multiple times!The Tuna Tataki roll was also amazing, but the Cherry Blossom roll just blew my mind!Im prepared to say this is the best sushi Ive had ANYWHERE! Ku-ru is a new sushi/hibachi restaurant in Hickory. Well, new to me. I chose it because I thought it looked casual enough to go in our shorts from shopping. We were seated immediately and served kindly and quickly. Our waitress tonight was a real pleasure!They brought us Miso soup to begin, and it was delicious. Very intense flavor, and just enough to whet our palate. We ordered Crab Rangoon to begin and it was crispy creamy deliciousness, but the real stand out was the light sauce that came with it. It wasnt a cloying sweet and sour sauce, but a real sweet chili sauce.We all got sushi rolls for our meal and all were fresh and delicious. Everything looked as good as it tasted.The kids wanted to try the Mochi balls for dessert and they were good, but I believe that might be an acquired taste. It was a bit gelatinous for me, but the girls seemed to like it. We also got fried ice cream, and it was fine, but I do suggest just skipping dessert.We enjoyed our meal there and are sure to be back again soon!

Awesome place for sushi! I had something off give menu and a custom made roll which were both fantastic. I highly recommend this place, Id say its easily one of the best places for sushi in the area.
