Its a decent park to visit in hong kong...the central theme of the park is based on chinese architecture. The public amenities in the park are very minimal and you need to walk a lot to locate the rest rooms and on a hot summer day in hong kong...its quite a taxing experience. The day i visited the park there was food kiosk opened...so get your own snacks or buy it frm the nearest circle k shop. Personally i liked the kowloon park in tst more...and if you are too keen to understand how hk slum looked in 70s or early 90s then...you wont be disappointed but again its nt extraordinary.

Beautiful place to remember the Walled Kowloon City, the many human beings living there and trying to enjoy life, the extraordinary efforts to take something positive out of life and the problems connected to this way of living.

Quite a big park with history of a previously mysterious “walled” city notorious of being a crimes breeding place where the ruling party has no jurisdiction in the 60s/70s …

Such a gem in the city! I went there with my partner in the morning, and it’s easy to get there either by bus or MTR. When we arrived, we saw many people doing tai chi there. Also there’re primary students having their excursions with the staffs touring them. It’s free for groups just you have book in advance. We slowly toured the park ourselves, read the illustrations and understood the history of Kowloon City. Everywhere was so quiet, clean, nicely kept and the staffs were friendly too. We enjoyed our visit and highly recommend this park to everyone!

Fascinating history in contrast to the peaceful retreat in the middle of a bustling city. What was once the worlds most densely populated area of ramshackled buildings, practically leaning into each other for support, is now an amazing place to find artistic inspiration and quiet reflection or retrospect.

A place is set with Chinese architectural style, to monetizing the former Kowloon Walled City, which was contained more than 50,000 residents within its borders. (Heard it from these elderly people who are gathering together and talked about the history of the park lol).

The park was converted from a notorious “walled city” within a city. This was a special zone where it was not officially ruled by the Hong Kong government but the late Qing dynasty. It was very special in the colonial history & was torn down after signing the Sino-British agreement on Hong Kong. With restoration according to an ancient southern China buildings & parks, the new park has been very scenic. The Qing county officer building has been restored to show its historical glory.

Former Kowloon Walled City now converted to a park with historical artifacts.Parts of the original walled city is still there, some historical artifacts like the scaled plan of the city. Some areas have been converted to Bonsai display, flower and ponds.A good resting area in the middle of the Kowloon urban sprawl.

A nice, clean park near the hotel we stayed in. This park is historical as it was part of the old walled city of Kowloon. Theres a sort of a gallery showing old photos of Kowloon, and there are remnants of the old city. There are several sections of the park where locals can spend time for sports and exercise. Lots of trees and birds which I liked because I did bird photography every morning for 2 days.

A park built at the location of the former "Kowloon walled city" which was the darkest "Sin City" in HK between 50-70s . Police never entered this region until the clearance by the government in year 1994.Only a small part of ruins is kept as a memorial site. The rest of the walled city history can be found in the small museum in the park. There are also cycling path and other playground facility for kids.

Its been a dream deferred but I made it happen. Its a completely serene and zen place with gardens water features and history. Its a complete 180 yet respectful of the communitys past. I knew a bit about the former neighborhood but the exhibits really enlightened me. Its easy to spend a couple of hours here. Its no less than world class and worth a visit.

Free historical site. Must go if you would like to learn more about the history of this place and how Kowloon walled city began in its early days to the teardown of the walled city. There are many detailed explanations and also audio/visual introduction of the walled city. Wasnt that crowded, with a mixture of locals and tourists. Overall a nice and scenic place.

This park sits where there used to be a lawless compact-city. This park has exhibits that feature the history of Kowloon Walled City before it was demolished by the government. It is great if you want to learn, go for a stroll, and sight-see.

A quiet lovely park with unique atmosphere of its long history. You can see the remains of south gate and Yamen building. There are exhibition halls to show the daily life of people living in there before demolition. The whole garden itself is beautiful but the story behind is even more appealing.

On any Sunday or public holiday, Kowloon Walled City Park is the gathering point of choice for Hong Kongs off-duty Thai domestic worker population, much as Statue Square attracts Filipino and Victoria Park is a focal point for the steadily growing Indonesian migrant worker population. Many impromptu food stalls are set up in the park and its immediate vicinity and far more Thai than Cantonese is spoken here. Bangkoks latest pop songs are blare forth from ghetto blasters and a carnival-like, off-duty flavor prevails.By early evening on Sundays most people have packed up and gone back home, but a few revelers can still be found scattered here and there around the park till quite late at night.

This was what used to be the Kowloon walled city. It is half park and half historical preservation / exhibition. It is a wonderful open space and you can imagine how the infamous and legendary walled city looked like before they took it down in 1994.

The Kowloon Walled City is an interesting (freeattraction that is the location of two interesting eras of local history. While not normally regarded as an an important attraction in Hong Kong, it does make for nice place to visit for those that have made the rounds and are looking for other interesting places to see during their time in the city. History buffs or those with historical ties to Hong Kong will greatly appreciate the Kowloon Walled City Park.During much of the 20th century, the Walled City previously located here was beyond the reach of the law and fostering all manner of illicit and illegal activities ranging from drug trafficking, prostitution to unlicensed dentistry. After WWII, the population of the Walled City expanded rapidly with unlicensed and unauthorised high-rise buildings put up to accommodate its residents. Imagines of the old Walled City during these decades are legendary, showing shoddy building structures, tight quarters and the dark and narrow alleyways that weaved like a labyrinth through the old city. After decades of neglect and misuse, the Hong Kong authorities announced plans to evict the residents of the Walled City and demolish the city in 1987. The demolition finally occurred in 1993-1994. At the time of the evictions, there were 33,000 people living in over 500 buildings, many as high as 16 stories, crammed into Walled City. It was reported that only 3 operating lifts existed within the city at the time of demolition. After the area was demolished, it was quickly converted into the Kowloon Walled City Park and opened to the public in 1995. The garden was laid out in a Jiangnan garden style of the early Qing Dynasty and shows few traces of the original fortified garrison or the shanty-city which occupied this space just 20 years ago. Instead, there are pavilions, foot paths, small ponds and streams and well-kept garden areas. It is a tranquil environment, a stark contrast to what would have been seen and experienced here in the past. There do remain a few historical markers of the old Walled City that you can see. The foundations of the South Gate to the city is exposed and available for you to see. Also, original signs of the old fort, written in Chinese characters, were unearthed during the demolition and are on display near the Old South Gate.Further, the Yamen building, being the only surviving structure from the Fortified garrison of the 19th century, remains in tact and is used as an exhibition area. Here you can find information about the history of the Kowloon Walled City through the decades as well as 4 exhibition rooms, which offer some experiences of the people that would have lived and worked in the Walled City in the years preceding its demolition.Overall, the Kowloon Walled City Park is a nice area with a historically rich past. Unfortunately, its location is not particularly convenient, making it somewhat difficult to combine with other attractions in Kowloon. However, its an intriguing place and worth consideration, particularly for those having been to HK before and looking for lesser known places around the city to visit.

I have never been to the real Kowloon Walled City and this is the first time for me to be at this place and now it’s just a normal park with only one real building from the Kowloon Walled City remaining in the park. When I did more research, I found that this place brings in many ideas for movie directors or game creators!Non locals seems to be more interested in the history and the architecture of it.Those unique buildings were being demolished. I don’t think any of the exhibition in the park can tell you how spectacular the real Kowloon Walled City’s buildings look. However, when you research on the internet again, you will truly upset on the reason why the governors at that time will make such an decision to remove all the buildings in the area and create a park where you can find it everywhere.I don’t think it’s worthy for a visit, as you can find the real Kowloon Walled City more from the internet than in the park itself.

Nice place to hang out. One of the few places in Hong Kong that isnt next to a tall building. This park isnt as big as one might expect. Also, if you forget to bring food and drinks, there are vending machines outside and a single vendor inside selling them.
