A good way to kill an hour or so. Entry to the museum is free so great for those on a budget. Seems like they are in the process to completing some of the exhibits but still good for a visit

A small free museum detailing the history of Kosovo. There are some archaeological exhibits on the ground floor (with captions in Englishwhilst some modern history is covered upstairs. It still has a way to go in terms of items, topics covered etc but it’s still worth visiting and supporting. Kosovo’s Serb minority doesn’t get a look in and there are more Albanian flags than Kosovar - revealing in its own way too.

Interesting exhibits but as others mentioned, little in English which would help pass on the story more to international visitors. We want to know more about the history of the country! Would’ve donated but nowhere to do it. Obviously, museums need extra funds and would’ve love to contribute but couldn’t.

There are archeological exhibits, weapons, and a philatelic gallery. The museum is small, and entrance is free.

Much more extensive museum than I thought would be the case given that I didnt think Kosovo had had the time or money to do a proper museum. Lots of very archaeological exhibits dating by to BC times. Upstairs has much more modern stuff - mostly from just before and after the 98-99 war of independence. We ended up using Google Translate some on the exhibits signs, which were mostly in Albanian - providing English translations would have earned you an extra star and would have made my visit much more complete (Google Translate gets old after about 10 translations). Youd probalby never know this museum existed unles you heard of it elsewhere and went looking for it - has almost no signage at the street letting you know its there.

Many have looted art out of Kosovo, so the displays here remain sparse. Nevertheless, the grounds are well kept by the staff, and the art that is here tell an interesting story. Admission is free, and the museum is centrally located. Well worth a visit.

Creepy and I learned little. I’d have skipped it.I’m not sure what they’re going for here, but for me this was not only a waste of time but also an uncomfortable museum experience. I was eager to leave this building.Got near main entrance. Tried door on what appeared to be ticket office but didn’t see any English signs. Door locked. Guy comes out from somewhere, no telltales of officialdom, no badge, no uniform. “Are you here for museum?” Yes. He leads me into the empty building. This feels weird. He then asks for a donation. There is no donation box and, as mentioned, the ticket office was closed. I ask if I might donate after as is customary anywhere else. He says it’s more convenient now. I assumed this guy was an opportunistic scammer but I wasn’t certain so heres three euros. When I left 30 minutes later I was surprised to see the guy still there, so perhaps it was legit. Dunno.Get a donation box if you want to play it that way and don’t have visitors handing cash to some random guy as they enter your museum.Museum feels half-baked, an incomplete thought. First floor is archeology finds, and only 1/3 are labeled. Items on this floor with labels do have English. The other 2/3 of objects were unlabeled. I had no clue what I was looking at aside from it’s a pot, it’s an axe. Often because lights were out entirely or flickering, I could not read labels that were there. There is zero narrative to guide one through the museum. It’s currently just a bunch of stuff.Second floor covers recent military events. More random stuff, no narrative, and items that are labeled have no English. They have some interesting artifacts; I wish I knew their significance. What’s creepy is that I saw no one else in the building. No staff anywhere, and I wasn’t even sure if the guy I’d met was staff. There appeared to be no security. Yes, cameras, though I’d be surprised if they were functional. I could’ve gotten mugged and no one would know. Could’ve walked out with a small mortar and no one would notice.

If youre nearby, you can spend a good 5 minutes there (the Mother Teresa picture made of staples is interesting), and youll get a description of the place (in return for a donation - I dont like this, Id rather have an entrance fee). But I wouldnt go out of your way, and theres not much information.

The Museum fails to give an overview of the history of Kosovo. Especially the second floor shows exhibits, mainly weapons without explaining their relevance. This has the effects of first leaving the visitor in the dark about the historic background of Kosovo and second, it suggests that the major history consists of the armed struggles of the 90s.What about Ottoman and Harbsburg influences, what about the world wars, what about the years as part of Yugoslavia?Suggestions: Add descriptions to the verious exhibits and put them into context. If there are no exhibits, there is plenty of video and audio footage which may be displayed on the large screens, with subtitles. Furthermore, content about the time between the roman empire and the wars in the 90s is almost absent.

This pretty ochre-painted villa housing the Kosovo Museum was built by Austrians for the Turkish army in 1898, and was used by the Yugoslav national army until 1975. The museum used to have a rich collection of prehistoric objects uncovered in Kosovo - these were all spirited off to Belgrade just before the troubles started in 1998, and hundreds of archeological finds and ethnographic items yet have to be returned. The extensive permanent archaeology exhibition details life in the region in the Illyrian, Dardanian and Roman periods with excellent English-language texts, all accompanied by Philip Glass minimal music. Centre stage is the 6000 year old statue, found at Tjerrtorja in 1956 and returned to Pristina in 2002.In front of the building recent history is represented by some artillery hardware, while two large Jewish gravestones remind of another recent exodus drama.

The museum is free, so that’s a plus, but there isn’t a whole lot to see. First floor if archaeological stuff, and 2nd floor is mostly army / military / historical items. In and out 10-15 minutes. Biggest problem was lack of English descriptions, so while they do have some cool items, there isn’t a lot of context.

Entry is free but I would still expect some descriptions of artifacts presented in the exposition. A little bit of story about the history of Kosovo is something you would expect to have in a museum. It is nice modern building but it needs some more work to be done.

One floor dedicated to ancient stuff like pottery and coins found in the ground, while the upper floor is marginally more interesting, with Madelaine Albrights hat being the jewel of the exhibition.

Although Kosovo is my birth country, Ive visited the National Museum with my friend from Israel the first time in August 2019. It was quite an experience, but I had to rely on my historian and archaeological skills to try to explain to my friend what the displayed objects were. There werent any descriptions (except for the namenear the objects. It would have been interesting if there was some audio guide to make the experience more "international friendly".All in all, I really enjoyed the room where the signed constitution was displayed with all the flags. I also got to experience the "Hyjnesha ne Fron" statue which, weirdly, I imagined bigger! Last but not least, some of the most used objects from the first Kosovan president, Ibrahim Rugova, were displayed although poorly presented. In essence, they were lying at the bottom of the glass!

The museum has two floors. The upper floor is more about the modern history, and the lower floor is on the archaeological side. The museum is small but still worths the visit, 30 to 45 minutes should be enough to cover both floors. Unfortunately the upper floor only has captions in Albanian, I asked the staff there and he said they are working on the English captions. The museum is free of charge.

While exploring town we have found this museum and as we did not have too much time we were not certain whether to enter or not. Guard was very polite and he encouraged us to enter along with information that entrance is free of charge but you can give donation. It is interesting one with lower part covering ancient history and upper part most recent one i.e. 1999 war with many interesting things to see.

The Kosovo Museum takes you on a journey of civilization in the country. From the prehistorical times all the way to the recent Balcan Wars. The memories of the Roman and Ottoman Empires, the love for USA and many other war memories can be seen there.

Very small but well thought out collection. Could have done with more full descriptions of some of the main displays but they had mitigated this somewhat by having and archeology graduate who offered to answer questions. Well worth a visit. Took an hour to go round. Also they need a shop to sell postcards at the very least. In time it will be an even better experience!

Loved it! Love all the old things they managed to preserve. Love that there is a story behind everything- that a guide can tell you about. But I really missed more story that you could read about for every object. There was no staff around before we left, but she gave a fast and informative tour on the first floor. When in Prishtina - visit the museum 👌🏼

Nice reconstructed museum taking you from early history of this geographic region and war in Kosovo and fight for independence. The missing part was some written story guide of Kosovo and connection between early history and Kosovo war. Independence room with all flags who recognise Kosovo is really worth to see! Entry is free and without tour guide.
