Kópakonan - Tourist attraction in Tórshavn, Faroe Islands
The views from near the statue are amazing. The story of the statue is very interesting. There’s a big sign on the top of the stairs that tells it. The walk down is a bit precarious so be careful as you might slip.
Beautiful location down by the sea. There is a hefty staircase to go down / up to get to the seal woman. I really liked the view of the surrounding cliffs!
A place worth visiting.
Beautiful village lots of history.Nice walk to ocean
Took the shuttle on Kalsoy to Kallur lighthouse and to see this statue. Theres also a waterfall nearby. Much more crowded than pictured. Walk downhill and several flights of stairs from the town to reach it.
Beautiful statue with an interesting history but nothing else in the village to do/see, lovely village nevertheless.I went to Kalsoy when the car ferry was docked, luckily I met some locals who were hiking in Trollanæs with some relatives, they ordered an earlier "out of schedule" bus to Mikladalur (only), so we got to see the statue as well.Worth a visit!
If you take the bus off the ferry you will stop here. We weren’t planning on stopping here but the bus driver made us (our return ferry wasn’t coming for another hour). We’re glad we did. Great place. Be sure to get some coffee and pastries at the little restaurant, and get there early if you’re with a large group.
So beautiful and a good story 🙌
Beautiful statue with a beautiful legend
I wasnt planning on stopping here, but I had time and Im glad I did. Its a beautiful location. If you have bad knees, beware of the stairs you will have to descend and ascend to visit the statue.
Stunning, just stunning and hypnotizing.
Wonderful statue and the seal legend is amazing. Easy to access (just go down the stairs)
Nice place with a nice legend.
This was the highlight of our trip to the Faroe Islands! Theres so many cool things to see on this island, that it is not to be missed. Let me give you the step by step on how to get there, and what youll see.First, make your way to the town of Klakvik (roughly 45 minutes drive from Torshavn). Then, get in line for the ferry (if driving a car), and there are three lanes; lane 1, locals only, lanes 2 and 3 for tourists. I highly recommend getting there at least 45 minutes prior to departure, as there is only 12 spots on the ferry for small cars. Then, its a 20 minute scenic boat ride to Kalsoy. You will then drive the one way road, and thru at least 5 creepy tiny, one lane only, claustrophobic old tunnels. As bad as it sound, one of the coolest drives Ive EVER done anywhere in the World!Once you arrive at the very end of the road, youll be in the tiny town of Trøllanes, the most visited village on Kalsoy island. This is where you can do the medium/hard trek up to the magical beauties of the Kallur lighthouse, as well as visiting the newly gravestone of James Bond! The other popular attraction is the Seal Woman in the village Mikladalur, where you also have a gorgeous waterfall, and the only cafe/restaurant on the island. This is a great spot to unwind and enjoy the beauty this island has to offer! I highly recommend visit this stunning island!
Magic place well worth visiting, be careful its some sttep staircases down to the statue
Short trip with the ferry to Kalsóy and a short drive to see Kòpakonan (Seal Womanin Mykladalur.
Lovely story about beautiful Selkie trapped by a fisherman on the island of Kalsoy. Worth to read and visit.
A bit of a steep descent down some stairways to get there, but well worth it. The view is absolutely stunning. Toilet near the parking area.
Great legend. Great statue👍
I love the Faroe Islands! I thoroughly enjoyed Kalsoy Island! I loved Mikladalur and Trollanes villages! And, yes I traveled all those kilometers to see Kópakonan aka The Seal Woman! It was worth every kilometer traveled and every step taken to and from this magnificent point of interest in Mikladalur!
This is a must see on Kalsoy. Beautiful scenery and interesting story behind the statue.
If you make the 147 steps you reach the seal mermaid of Trøllanes. Very nice place. The figure is quite big well worth a visit
Definitely worth a stop. Park in town at the top of the hill and walk down the inclined street (dont drive down). Then take the series of stairs toward the shore. There are several small waterfalls on either sides. Different perspectives give different impressions of the statue, but its hard to take a bad photo.
Interesting statue with a more Interesting folk lore. Worth seeing if you are here as there are not many sights, but not worth going out of your way to see. Waterfall opposite is equally if not more impressive.
A must see place when youre on the island. Its only a short walk down to the shore, with a stunning view all around. Theres a car park available.
I love Scandinavia, and like the legend of this woman, so if you are in Denmark, be sure to visit the Faroe Islands, you will love it !!!!
Very impressive place, we even saw harbor seals ! :)
Little spooky towns
Suggestive location! Must see. With free parking and restrooms. Be careful, stairs can be slippery
Wow
Very impressive sculpture of a Seal Woman. Very sad story about the story behind the sculpture
Free to visit, easily accessible through stairs. Nice bay views, theres also a small waterfall nearby.
Mostly just fog
Beautiful nature 🥰
The little Mermaid? How about the Seal-Woman in the Faroe Islands. It‘s a really nice statue with a wonderful scenery behind it. There are multiple markings along the way to guide you to the statue and there is also a plaque with the backstory to it. It‘s a long way down and be cautious because the stones can be very slippery.
Stunning natural beauty combined with the amazing take of the Sealwoman make this an absolute must-have-seen place at gorgeous Kalsoy island. For us, it was one of the highlights of our 5 day trip to the Faroer!!!
There are 2 places you must come when you are here, and Kopakonan is one of the place in the middle of this Island.Story of a sad seal woman that had to surrender her life for a young fisherman who confiscated her seal skin. The story was very dark, and you should come to read it over by yourself.Weather was bad when I was here, despite of it, I let my pictures speak to you.
Okay sculpture to see
Awesome!
Nice sculpture
A 13 ft. bronze beauty rises from the fjord shedding her seal skin. What is not to love. The embodiment of lore is well worth the visit.
Peacefull place with beautifull statue.
Very impressive statue
What happened here was memorable to say the least!
Stunning!
Scenic location especially in the morning or evening hours. Worth a visit if you are in the area
Nice and great place to see! But there is not a lot of parking space. And its not easy to get there. The ferry is pretty crowded and costs like 180dkk for a car.
Very nice place. But is better by car.
Amazing view around the statue as well as all the way to the statue
Played Sandstorm by Darude on repeat and served guac and chips.
