Koon Thai Restaurant - Thai restaurant in New Haven, United States
Koon Thai is hands down the best Thai restaurant in New Heaven area. The place is nice and clean. The restaurant offers a variety of authentic thai dishes. Staff are very friendly. We will definitely be back :)
Objectively the besst Thai food in New Haven! Super tasty, fresh, not too heavy. My fav!
I have been to this restaurant recently. The best Thai Food I tried so far in Connecticut. Really, if you are in New Heaven dont miss the chance to try this place!
I tried Pork Shumai and Pad See Ew which were both delicious. The portions were good. Would recommend. However, it is not the best Thai food I ever had. It was slightly greasy!
I have been impressed with this restaurant and it’s staff having ordered in and through third party delivery. This curry has tremendous flavor and a great selection of spice to choose from. I have been and will continue to order from here.
Menu was great for a group with multiple diet restrictions, very easy to order. The food was alright, nothing special. Service could definitely use some help.
I just visited New Haven for a meeting and found this restaurant next door to Omni hotel. The Crab Rangoon is tasty, Red Curry is delicious and Pad Thai is perfect. Finally, the mango sticky rice really completes my day after the long meeting.Definitely gonna come back!!!
I came here to eat lunch with a friend because we read great reviews about how amazing and authentic the food here is. However, we left here feeling disappointed.Lets start with the positives. The decor was nice and the papaya salad was good. It was citrusy, fresh, crisp, and had the makings of a tasty salad. I didn’t expect there to be romaine lettuce on there, but I’m guessing this is the Americanized rendition. I would have loved to see dried shrimp on the salad because that would have added another layer of crunch and saltiness that would have complemented well with the acidity of the dish.Let’s move on to the mains. My friend and I both got the curries. I got a “special House curry”. I appreciate the amount of vegetables they had on the dish, and it was cooked thoroughly. The curry itself, however, was a tragedy beyond belief. It was watery, lacking in flavor and spices, and was just not an enjoyable meal to eat. Thai curries are typically rich, decadent, and a bit creamy, and this dish did not properly represent those profiles. The server was also a bit cold to us, which did not help enhance our dining experience.Would I recommend that you eat here? Absolutely not. There are plenty of other Thai restaurants in downtown New Haven that provide better food and hospitality. Frankly, the food served here is an insult to Thai cuisine.
The food wasnt flavorful, the service was ok
Pad thai was not bad. Red curry had too strong odor. non-thai people would not be familiar with it.
Koon Thai is the best option, hands down, for Thai/Chinese food in New Haven. Im only sorry that it took my three years living here to find it. Compelled to write a review so others can avoid my mistake! Every Chinese or Thai place I have tried in New Haven, outside of those above my pay rate, are exceptionally bland, to a degree I cant understand. And none can do spice. Whenever Ive ordered spicy food from any of these places, my "spicy" dish is interchangeable with my eight-year-olds "mild." Koon Thai is absolutely excellent--great flavor, good heat on the spicy dishes, very generous portions, and, as a vegetarian, I love that they have vegetarian and vegan options clearly listed. Tonight, the Koon kitchen made a mistake and one of the wrong dishes arrived in our takeout; not only did they make it right immediately--when I arrived to pick it up they had prepared two dishes to replace the one! Incredible, thoughtful service behind excellent food.
Food was ok. Ssrvice was ok.
Koon Thai has THE best spring rolls! Their food is flavorful and fresh. They have plenty of vegan options. My favorite is their panang curry. I have taken friends and family here and everyone has loved it. Highly recommend!
1. The service was slow.2. They wouldnt give lunch menu unless you ask for it.3. The lunch set comes with one tiny dumpling, and the basil pork rice I ordered had little meat, but mostly pepper and carrot.I expected to get a good lunch deal, but it was overall disappointing. Their delivery is better with bigger portion of food.
I just LOVE when places are irritated about Food Allergies! 😃 I placed an order for delivery, got a notification that it was canceled. Called to ask why. The person who answered was clearly inconvenienced by my call/question and notified me a notification was sent before the cancellation (I still don’t see one anywhere).Regardless, they explained that the items I ordered contained an allergen I listed. So I asked “Which friend rice doesn’t contain <allergen>?” The response was a *Very Pronounced* Sigh (I mean, I could HEAR the eye roll through the phone). Then I was informed that after all, the dish I ordered did NOT contain said allergen.Too late! I took my business elsewhere.
Great place for pickup and delivery(5stars). Best Thai place in town.4 stars for dining in.
Really great service and food! Very fresh and friendly staff. Will come back for sure 😁
I used to really enjoy the shrimp pad thai from Koon Thai restaurant a few years back. Me and my sister would get it regularly. I recently ordered from there via Door Dash and I was very disappointed. I’d ordered the shrimp pad thai and it was gross. The shrimp tasted like defrosted frozen shrimp with no taste. The noodles were undercooked and had no flavor, I felt like I was eating cardboard. I had asked for chopsticks but these were not provided to me. I’d take my money and go elsewhere.
Food is amazing !!!!! But they hardly ever answer the phone, not sure if they are on door dash or Uber east. It always states they are closed on those apps.. Which is why I gave 4 stars and not 5.
The food was okay but the service was completely unacceptable. As someone who works in a restaurant, the man at the front of the house was completely rude and disrespectful. My family and I greeted him with “hi, how are you?” He continued to ignore us as he took our orders and we were still kind to him. As we were eating we hear him shouting, cussing, and belittling the cooks. There was no music playing and it was a quiet Monday so you could clearly hear his verbal attacks toward them. It was the most disgusting thing to see or hear and I’m sure he was the managerNot only was he disrespectful, but he was abusing his power especially as a white man and belittling the workers as they were people of colorThe tofu was pretty good and so were veggie dumplings as well.If you like wanting a tyrant at play and prefer terrible service, Koon Thai is the place for you.
Food was outstanding. The waiter provided an awkward & rude experience. Be kinder dude...you only had 3 tables.
Excellent vegan food selection. Serving is good for 2 people. They have variery of non vegan food. Delicious and authentic
We ordered a take out last night and the food was delicious. Authentic Thai food just like what we used to have in Thailand. Definitely one of my favorite place for ethnics food. I would love to give them 10 stars if I could. I highly recommend this restaurant.
Its edible, but no where near the experience Ive had at September in Bangkok. The bubble tea is the ONLY reason Im giving it 2 stars. I think whoever is answering the google reviews is extremely unprofessional...
I think this might be one of my favorite restaurants in new haven. The food is always so good. Even delivery it came fast and was still hot.
Very clean restaurant, and very friendly staff, there is a very pleasant atmosphere here, I can not wait to make another drive back and visit again. The food was very delicious and the food it a great example of Authentic Thai cooking being that they show sweet, sour, salty, creamy, spicy and bitter this creates a very round dish which compliments the entire meal and is very delicious. Everything is very reasonably priced and very delicious, I would definitely recommend a Thai tea to anyone ordering. You guys are Awesome! Keep up the hard work, and thank you for making such an amazing meal.
Had tom yum noodle soup with shrimp, amazing flavor. Also 3 flavor curry with chicken, fresh nice flavors. Should have asked to make it spicy. Excellent
The food is decent, but nothing to write home about. I have certainly had much better Thai food, but Koon Thai is reasonably good for the price and I really appreciate that you can adjust the spice level. The reason I wont order from here again is the delivery time. Ive ordered 2x from Koon Thai in the last month and both times the order has arrived in 1.5 hours+ (which was 45-60 minutes past the given delivery window). Really frustrating and disappointing.
This my second favorite thai place next to Thai Spice in Orange! I only get them thru Uber Eats so I cant review based on service due to the current pandemic situation. I like their pad se ew, and their fried tofu is TO DIE FOR.Update: Visited there for the first time and probably will just stick to uber eats. The guy was unfriendly and did not understand my question and was abrupt and rude to this one customer that was waiting before me. The woman who gave me my food was really sweet, though.
Ordered through Uber Eats since there was no in-restaurant dining due to covid. The steamed buns were delicious and the main course (Pad See Ewwas an extremely generous portion. I only ordered it a level 1 spice, which it was, but wasnt quite as flavorful as Ive had the dish at other places. That probably means its healthier though with less sauce/fillers! Overall, an excellent meal and Ill be ordering again!
DO NOT EAT AT THIS PLACE !!! I went in for Thai ice tea on a hot day. There was no one in sight. I rang the bell and lady came out from the back. She did not smile, she did not greet me, she just looked at me. I made an order for two Thai ice teas and she stood there and demanded I pay before she we and got them. I asked her if she could go get the teas first and she refused, waved her arms at me and told me to get out. There was also a guy who worked there defending her unpleasantness. Now, I don’t know if race had anything to do with her behavior but I am black. Anyways, they don’t deserve anyone’s hard earned money. Just my opinion.
Chicken saray was light and spicy, not salty which I appreciate, delicious. Peanut and cucumber sauces for dipping are so good. Masaman curry outstanding, coconut sauce is exquisite, shrimp and vegetables were fresh. Love that nothing was salty or heavy. Highly recommended.
Has many vegan options! Theyre also labeled as such on the menu!
Consistent with other review the wait time is long. I ordered steamed chicken dumplings and Chicken Satay. Both were good. The satay portion was 4 very large skewers. It was a little on the dry side but good. The dumplings were okay, not overly flavorful and the dough was not too thick. I like a thinner dough but it was still okay. I could hear other customers complimenting their food so perhaps if I had been more hungry and tried an entree my experience would have been different. The menu has a good assist of vegetarian food options.
I thought this place was really quite good. Excellent steamed dumplings. The chicken pad Thai was also excellent. I asked for a spicy level of 5 which is called Thai. Its their highest level of spice. And it was indeed incredibly spicey. So spicy where it was almost unenjoyable. But I was able to get it down with about three carafes of water...lol!🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️🔥🌶️🔥
If you want to get your food after an hour wait, get the wrong dish, enjoy wet fried rice, be charged for your original and more expensive order, and finally be told that the "pork looks like the chicken" with no hint of an apology after you ask for the bill to be corrected, then this is the place for you! (Does this look like pork?)
Quite understaffed, went past a couple of times after dinner and saw the tables all or mostly dirty. The food itself was edible albeit lacking a certain oomph. We ordered takeaways from there twice and both times couldnt finish the dishes.
I give it 10 stars. We were a large party who arrived bit by bit at a busy time. There was only one server, who did a most outstanding job. Food took a while to arrive.....but when it did it was excellent......dunno if I wanna recommend it or keep it for me and my friends
In town for the schools family weekend. We waited a little for our table as we had 7 people in our party and didnt call for a reservation on a Friday night. Not too bad on the wait.Food: very decent food. We ordered yellow curry with pork, red curry with beef, and pineapple fried rice with shrimp, and Thai ice tea. The beef is a bit over cooked but the rest of the food was delicious. The fried rice is my favorite. It has curry mixed in with the fried rice and gave a good flavor. The spicy level of the curry was just perfect for me. We ordered an extra serving of rice to go with the curry. We left the restaurant satisfied with full stomached, and there was a line waiting for tables.
Food is amazing and so is the staff! Have been twice and loved everything I’ve tried (Garlic fried rice, spring rolls, moon dumplings, chicken dumplings, spicy Thai noodles, drunken noodles and teaWish I lived in New Haven, would be there once a week! Stopped in for the 2nd time yesterday and was remembered by extremely friendly staff. Must try if you are in the area looking for great food!
Super speedy and courteous service... server made sure to pay attention to all details and loved the hospitality... good food options and great taste. Nice decor and ambience to the place.
This restaurant is excellent. Everything is customizable and clearly marked for dietary concerns, the food is great, and the people are amazing and friendly, and remember and greet you between visits. Come here frequently but maybe not frequently enough. Try the Thai twist drink!
The only time I eat Thai is when I am in New Haven with my family, And Koon Thai is our place of choice. As others have said, it is a small place with a warm friendly staff and wonderful food. The food is always fresh, well seasoned, tasty and cooked to perfection. It is a nice family owned and operated business, which I am glad to support.
Very small welcoming atmosphere, the BEST Thai food I’ve ever had. I never leave reviews for anything but since coming here a month ago I’ve been back at least five times because I can’t get enough. The food is fresh and flavorful just delicious. The owners are incredibly sweet as well. Try it out you won’t be disappointed!
Very good Thai food, surprisingly cheap, extremelly nice stuff, pleasant decor.
The food here was amazing! The cheese-filled wontons were divine with such a creamy, slightly sweet filling. The rest of food I had there was solid, with plenty of vegetarian/vegan options along with exquisite fried rice. You can even get bubble tea here, which is more than I can say for any other Thai establishment Ive been to.
I just came here for a simple dinner and they really surprised me. Food definitely surpassed my expectation. I had the pad see ew and it was awesome. I would also recommend the shrimp spring roll.
I used to be a regular here and the only reason Im not anymore is because Im just so busy and out of the area. Any time I dine and want Thai though I aim for this place and recommend it to all of my friends, no exceptions. The owner is a great person, the atmosphere feels nice, and the food is really good. Im a sucker for curry and most of the menu is very accommodating to your needs. Very happy with this place. ^.^
Store is very clean, friendly staffs, speedy service. beef fried rice awesome, shrimp dumpling very delicious, and awesome noodle was awesome itself. kinda salty, if really pick one spot, otherwise very nice and reasonable costs. I love to stop by next time, too
