Kolob Canyons Visitor Center - Visitor centre in Saint George, United States
Amazing short side trip. Dont miss this!
Gifts and info beautiful rock formations and hiking trails various abilities...
Kolob Canyons of Zion NP is much less crowded and every bit as beautiful.
Beautiful drive. Not perhaps as spectacular as Zion but, nonetheless, well worth it.
Fantastic guy working in the visitor center! He shared with us all the places to stop by and visit along the way and really welcomed us nicely before heading to the Canyon which is a must visit short trip to see when you go for Zion and area!
John Stavros, a volunteer here, was great to talk to. He answered some questions I had at the visitor’s center regarding trails then we saw him again while we were out hiking. He was personable and friendly. We enjoyed our time spent with him. Thx John!
Beautiful, this is a must see if you’re on I-15
Small center with good attitude staff. In need of clean bathroom that I saw they are working on and should be ready by the next time I come to visit someday.
awesome place to visit the rangers were very knowledgeable and friendly ther are great look out areas with lots of parking they even have RV parking clearly marked along the curb the bathrooms are clean and handicap accessible as well as the lookouts they even have hiking trails that are very well maintained with beautiful views all around this is a great place to visit
The gentlemen working here were wonderful!! Kind and full of information. There was construction going on outside, but that did not matter.
A note of appreciation for Rita, the ranger who took the time to advise us, and adjust our campsite reservations, so that our group, composed of primarily kids 6 to 8, would have a safe and enjoyable 4-day hike. We are all grateful for your knowledge, experience and patience.
So majestic!! And just a short drive from the highway with several hiking trails.
Limited services and no restroom
Kolob Canyon is a beautiful must stop off highway 15 south. A quick 10 minute loop with breathtaking views
Beautiful! Loved this more then the main entrance of Zion. Super low key, not crowded and fun hike at Taylor Creek trail. We hiked Saturday March 19th. The trail got pretty icy after the first cabin. Sadly we turned back but only because we were carrying babies and had a couple toddlers and bigger kids with us. Hope to go back and finish the hike sooner than later! After we finished our hike we drove up to the view point and took in the amazing scenery. I love this hidden little gem 20 mins outside of Cedar City.
The entrance to the Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park begins with a visit to the visitor center. You can purchase park passes, fill you water bottles, and find restroom facilities here. The Kolob Canyon Scenic Drive is a stunning five mile road along red cliffs with many beautiful overlooks and a few hiking trails. The most popular trails in this area are the Taylor Creek Trail and the Timber Creek Overlook Trail. Even if you are not hiking, the drive alone is worth a visit.
First thing first upon arrival at Kolob we bought the Annual Nation Park Pass-America the Beautiful from the visitor center. The NP Annual Pass cost $80 and it is good for a year. From the visitor center we headed for the five-mile Kolob Fingers Road Scenic Byway of parallel red rock canyons. It is amazing. Hope some of the picture we captured provide some essence. The Kolob Canyons section of Zion National Park is located at Exit 40 on Interstate 15, 40 miles north of Zion Canyon and 17 miles south of Cedar City. Address: New Harmony, UT 84757
We did not realize that these canyons were part of Zion. Read a Yelper’s review calling Kolob “underrated” and we HAD to go. We checked in with Ranger Grimes at the closed for now Visitor Center. Snow was on the ground. It was raining. And you know what? It was fabulous! From check in at this center to exiting this park, we had a good time touring the Canyons. The bathrooms weren’t heated, but they had toilet paper and hand sanitizer. The views were encased in clouds and rain, but they were spectacular. Some looked like they had been sprinkled with confectioner’s sugar. When we got to the end of the trail, with the turn around, Husband indulged my playing in the snow!
Amazing views and just off the interstate. Take a quick break from your drive if you have a National Park pass or week long Zion pass.
Parking was available At midnight. Convience store is mildly stocked with super lazy employees. Bathroom was tolerable.
The guide was not very helpful. Answered questions with questions? We walked away confused. The Canyon drive we wanted to do was dozens of miles away but the sinage was poor and the ranger/employee was just flat out weird.
Magical, beautiful and awesome. That is Kolob.
Great stop right off the interstate as we traveled from Vegas to Moab. The overlook trail was an easy hike with beautiful views. A good rock climbing phot op at the overlook that was actually just a 6 ft wall. 😂
Backside of Zion! Beautiful view with WAY less people. The overlook trail hike was short and easy. Definitely something to check out!
At the time we visited (end of Sept. 2021the building was not open to the public. There was a ranger at a window to answer questions and provide maps if needed. There was a bathroom with flushing toilets with two stalls available.
Before you enter the park you must stop by the visitor center and either purchase a park pass or show your pass. They have a passport stamp available here as well.
Just a small drive and you see amazing, beautiful canyons!
We only checked out the Overlook Trail, but it was SO worth it. I wish we could have done the others, especially the one that had some arches. If you’re looking to still get some views without the immense crowds that pile up in Zion, driving out here is 100% worth it. Less people means more nature to enjoy 👏🏻There is a water refilling station right by the visitor center. I cannot remember seeing one at the front of the Overloon trail, but there were definitely restrooms and a scenic parking lot.I highly recommend stopping here even just for the Overlook trail if you’re in town for Zion.
Kolob Canyons visitor center was a planned stop as I headed into the park to hike. I showed my Federal Lands Sr Pass and headed to the trailhead for Taylor Creek. The hike was beautiful. And Ill include a few pics.
Staff at the visitor center is very rude! We didnt have our park pass but had it on a visual image. We didnt have it because our dad was in the hospital and he had it. We wanted to go into the park to clear out thoughts. We showed it to the guy at the desk who said no and rudly kept shutting us down when we tried to tell him why we didnt have it in person. Then as we walked away he assumed that we were going into the park without paying when we just wanted to leave and do something else. He yelled at us telling us that we couldnt go into the park without paying. If he would have just listened to us we wouldnt be that mad. A lot of compassion would have gone a long way for us. The staff is rude.
The photos cannot do it justice! This place is a magic, shifting, landscape of red rock, a pallette of greens, and cloud shadow. Beautiful!!!
The visitor center itself is quite small and of course closed for COVID. The map that is handed out is actually the Zion map which includes a small insert for Kolob.
The visitor center is closed so visitors just walk up to the window, pay the park fee and get in their car to drive to Kolob Canyons. The woman working there is rude, unfriendly and unhelpful.
Had no plans on stopping here on our way from st George to cedar city but glad we did. Amazing canyon and well with the admission. I hiked the trail at the end of the scenic drive and it was perfect...not a huge elevation swing from start to finish.
I came here on a Sunday morning around 10:30AM, showed the national parks pass at the visitor center, then drove to the parking spot for Kolob Arch hike and snagged a parking spot (there were about 3 parking spots left). The hike was downhill at first which was smooth sailing, and the bottom of the canyon was pretty flat and scenic with the creek! The arch was hidden a bit away from the main trail, and it wasnt super impressive. Even at the arch, it was far away and a bunch of trees were in the way to see it very well. I didnt run into many people which was great! I also went to the overlook afterward which had an amazing view (and also more people, unfortunately). Plenty of parking there though!
The canyon was absolutely beautiful! But the man working at the visitors center almost ruined the experience for me. He asked to see my pass. I showed him from 6 feet away since he wasn’t wearing a mask. He said he need to see it closer so I asked him to put his mask on. He became irate and was visibly shaking when he ripped my pass out of my hand. I’ve never been treated like this at a national park! It was really disappointing and kind of scary! The man’s name tag said Corey.
Kolob was closed due to snow. However the staff member, John was so nice and helpful when it came to suggesting other things to do. He gave us the exact advice we needed and to make our stay fantastic. Very grateful to run into him!
For winter adventures, call ahead and check if the scenic road is open, otherwise if road is closed due to snow and icy conditions, park at visitor center and plan for extra mileage to your trailhead. 3.7 mi to Lee Pass trailhead from Visitor center.
The visitors center was not open, so you stop there to pay fees, get maps, & use the restroom. This northern section of Zion is beautiful, there is a 5 mile section of road with several hiking trails along the way. Epic rock canyon views.
Really beautiful. Small scenic drive. The least touristy, crowded views of Zion National Park.
Visitor center was closed and there was no park entry fee when we visited on 10/23. The parking for Taylor Creek trailhead was full, so we hiked about 7 miles out & back on the La Verkin Trail instead, then drove up to the “top” of the road. Beautiful drive and it did feel so good to get out and hike but if you are not a hiker then you can still enjoy beautiful views on the drive!
Its technically apart of Zion but its separated like its own park. Really beautiful and definitely worth at least driving through. (doesnt take too long). Do some hikes if you have time, and its normally not very crowded.
Wish it could open at winter. At least open the toilet....It’s close too early at 5pm. Considering the time some difference when we drive from west, it’s virtually close at 4pm.... could you close a little late?
A small nice place. The personnel/rangers at the Visitor Center were very nice and helpful. Although far from the main portion of Zion National Park it still has the feel of the great Zions National Park. The road leading up into this mesmerizing valley is very well kept and has amazing views all around. Very easy access as it is located right along the I-15 Highway. Make sure you stop at the Visitors Center before going up the road to the Kolob Canyon.
This being totally separate from the main portion of Zion NP it is almost like it’s own park with its own amazing vibe. It is one road up into this magical valley with amazing views all around. Right off the interstate you find yourself secluded within minutes. Sunrise and sunset are both amazing here. The hanging gardens are very impressive as well. Don’t overlook this area when visiting southern Utah!
To;dr: Double check if this side of the Park is open before you come.Have been here last year and the view was awesome but it’s closed from May 2018, which wasted us one hour driving. The National Park should update the status on the map or notify the visitors on the other part of Zion National Park. The staff here said hopefully the construction’d be finished Nov this year if the weather is good. However, it’s not guaranteed. Double check before you come.
Really a hidden gem of a place. Theyve done extensive expansion of facilities and this is now part of the Zions system. Unfortunately, even though the experience is very, very quick compared with the national park, the price to get in demands you pay for entry into Zions as well so is very steep. There is nothing there now but the views, no picnicking or camping allowed; but there is paved road all the way to where they want you to stop and turn around. Views down are completely different than those up.
Beautiful "other" part of Zion National Park. It has several hiking trails that are easily manageable and have awesome scenery. This part of the National Park is not as highly visited and thus much less crowded. If youre in the area- dont miss it!
Kolob Canyons is part of Zion National Park and is a great way to see part of Zion for those who dont have the time, inclination or sense of adventure to go into Zion proper. That is not to say it doesnt have adventure: there are several trails within Kolob Canyons, some quite strenuous. There is a five-mile scenic drive which is quite beautiful with several vistas and trails along the way. Kolob Canyons, in essence, is the "mini" or quick version of Zion: it really is quite beautiful, but definitely is not a substitute for seeing the main park. I strongly recommend seeing both if possible.
The kolob Canyons Visitor Center is the entrance to the kolob Canyons area this is a wonderful area to take some really gorgeous pictures of the West End of the Zions National Park area stop by The Visitor Center to get some pointers from the staff that are there. Remember that the kolob Canyon Drive is a dead-end it does not come out anywhere in the Zions National Park area so once you get to the end you get to turn around but you will be able to see a whole different view of the Canyons area.
