I loved the food, great flavor and portions. Why 3 stars, we had to wait for menus, we were seated by the door and got a cold draft whenever someone came in or left and my water was never refilled, I left the restaurant very thirsty.

Koji wo suki des. Hai. Yes, I like it very much so. Their ramen broth is always delicious and their rolls are very well made and presentable. Even on busy days. The ladies that work there, everyone I ve had the pleasure to be served by has been diligent, fast, listens good and they all look for info quick if they re not sure.Overall great experience every time

This has been a place that we started visiting regularly since we landed in the Portland area 20+ years ago. While Koji has opened (and closed or moveda few "satellite restaurants" through those years, this Broadway location remains to be our favorites. In all those visits, we tried several dishes from appetizers to sushi/sashimi to noodles, and we were never disappointed. I would certainly hope this place continues to strive for many years to come.

I have to say I was pleasantly surprised by this restaurant! Decided to go here sort of on a whim and Im glad I did. The sake and hamachi nigiri in particular were excellent! The employees were also very nice. Im sure Ill be back again with how close it is to the Pioneer Courthouse MAX stop.

Ive been here four or five times and had really enjoyable food all but once. I like the miso soup touch, the house salad is refreshing, tempura is fresh and tasty... I do know that the sushi here is good too. Not spectacular, but solidly good & clean.

Don’t judge the outside/inside appearances. The sushi is fresh, delicious and fish is well maintained. One of the sushi chef has been working for the company for over 20+ years and it shows. I asked him what is the hardest dish. He gave me a Yoda-like answer. ‘Nothing is hard. It just takes more time.’ Order one of their custom unique creations on the wall. It takes more time and you won’t regret it.

We waited for a long time for the waiter to take our order. My husbands dish arrived 30 mins before I received mine. The chicken donburi was flavorless. Chicken wasnt even cooked in any sauce or seasoning, was greyish in color like it was boiled or cooked in plain cooking oil, no seasoning in the egg omelette. Really unappetizing.

I had many lovely meals at this location in the past 20+ years and Im sorry to see it looking so scruffy. More importantly, the food quality was very poor. Dried out white rice, mediocre sushi, overly blackened pot stickers and the kitsune bean curd in my bowl of noodles was actually soured and bad. The waitress was kind and offered another complementary dish but we wont be returning.

YAAAAASSSSSSS! We started at another spot and werent satisfied with their sushi menu. When we got to Koji Osakaya we were delighted with the variety. The atmosphere was much more inviting. The staff was nicer too. Once we got our food we loved this place even more. Definitely recommend & will be returning.

Outdated decor, but high priced items on the menu. Questionable quality of the sushi rolls itself ( not really professionally rolled). A lot of lose rice with little on the inside.

The food was good. Fish was fresh, the rice was properly seasoned. The Chirashi dish had a good amount of a variety of fish as well as a good proportion of rice. The inari sushi was very good. I was told this location has been in business over 30 years which says to stay around this long it has to be good and authentic.

I really like their kanban boards. They put a a lot of effort and love into those. As one of a few Japanese restaurant that open late in downtown Portland, I can’t help but say the food is quite disappointing. The beer was okay and staff very friendly. The chefs doesn’t wear masks or gloves when handling raw food, which is a concern. The fish was by no means fresh or tasty.

3rd time in. Honestly, the first time we walked in, we kinda just stumbled upon it, and almost walked out (the atmosphere is a bit lacking). But such amazing sushi, the staff is great too. We have had something different each time, and EVERYTHING has been over the top, especially for the price you pay. Will be back, and the special "Zilpha" roll will be the 1st thing we order (salmon, cucumber, jalapeno, tipped w/avocado). Worthy!

Fresh, good quality ingredients. Delicious dishes. Prompt and friendly service. The place looks a little frowzy, but my friend says it reminds him of places in Japan that offer good food w/o atmosphere. Prices are rather inexpensive, so thats a more than a fair trade off.

The service was great, the food was delicious, the view outside was awesome, and the amount of food for what you pay was very acceptable. I dont normally like tea, but the tea they offer you for free, even with no sugar added, was very satisfying. Next time Im in Portland, I will likely stop by again to try something else on their menu.

We decided to come for a lunch on the Labor Day of 2018, and it was a serious mistake. It was after lunch time at about 3:45. The restaurant was almost empty. The waitress said that it was good we haven’t came earlier because it was full. However, we have ordered some rolls and I have ordered a sushi set with about 9-10 pieces of nigiri. We have been waiting only THAT order for 40 minutes. 40 MINUTES!!! Common guys, if you have nothing to do with your time, welcome to that restaurant. But I don’t have a lot of time sitting starving and waiting 40 minutes for my order. Will not come back.

Service was good. I ordered ramen and they used the cheapest $.99 noodles there is, only found 4 pieces of meat in the entire thing, and our rainbow roll was falling apart you needed a spoon or your hands to keep it all together. The cook needs to improve massively.

I don’t know what the other reviews are about.Ramen had weird broth taste which is not authentic ramen broth at all, rolls were not rolled properly and falling apart. Curry rice was alright and probably the only okay dish out of everything. Good customer service but food was just unacceptable at that price

Tiny place. Like a diner for 10 people.food was good and had specials with local salmon and tuna. Friendly cook is just inches away. Service was pretty slow even with just a few of us. Reminds me of some tiny places in Japan. Good value, good food. Go for a good, filling dinner , but dont bring a date

This is a good place to grab food while in downtown. There is a range of different dishes from sushi to ramen and curry. Even though it is physically small its very comfortable and doesnt feel cramped to me. The staff is friendly and attentive. Great for lunch or dinner.

Solid 4+ star place. I usually get the chicken katsu curry and my wife gets the mackrel off the lunch menu.Lunch is till three, good sushi and specialty/seasonal items.Prices have gone up in recent times. The place is also a little “cozy” so try to go before or after the rush.Service has always been good, food was good to great depending on what you get.Sushi is solid and the donburi bowls are great for a small meal. Try the Jalapeño tempura popper!

I first visited Koji Osakaya last year with a friend and had delicious sushi, and I returned with my brother last week and had the okonomiyaki and Tori Toji with Udon noodle. Both were outstanding- high quality ingredients and reasonably priced. Service was top notch as well! Definitely will be returning for another visit.

First time here. I am a nigiri/sashimi snob. It was very good out of excellent. Everything else was excellent. I do feel the rib eye teriyaki was over priced for the portion size, but it was good. Id recommend it for casual dining or lunch. Its very small, cafe style atmosphere.

Came here for lunch on a Monday. Had the combo lunch with ton kastu and yakiniku. A friend had sashimi. The yakiniku was alright but the ton kastu was so-so. The miso soup and salad were also OK.Service was pretty slow, they seemed overwhelmed even though they were only half full when we arrived. 2.5/5.

Used to come here a lot. Quality is good. Seems like theyve just recently switched up a few things though. Portions have gotten a little smaller than what they used to be. Ordered the Chicken Katsu Curry, which before came with a whole breast but this time came with only about 4-5 slices. Unfortunately with all the new places popping up, cant justify coming back here for those prices/portions.

Ive seen this place, around the corner from my hotel for weeks now, and finally I committed to trying it out. Its a low key place, no flare, minimal service, and a promise for good sushi. And thats exactly why I went. The items I ordered were Hakutsuru Junmai Ginjo sake, the Salmon Platter special which included a total of six sashimi or nigiri style (2 eaAtlantic Salmon, Alaska Wild Salmon, and New Zealand Wild Salmon and also the Alaska Makic roll. The Sake was mild, a little creamy, served cold. But to my immature pallet it seemed flat - like a flat soda. Maybe thats what its supposed to taste like, I really dont know. It was good but Id probably not order it again, rather Id try another sake. The salmon nigiri platter was great. I loved the New Zealand salmon, it was fatty, clean, and very flavorful. Order it. The Atlantic and Alaska salmon were also very great, clean tasting and very satisfying. The one thing to note here is that the sushi chef (at least the one on Monday nightlikes to put a little bit of wasabi in everything. I didnt mind it, it still tasted great, but I wouldve liked a little heads up or the option to opt out of it.Id probably pass on the Alaskan Maki roll, it was alright. It didnt scream game changer or amazing.I would certainly go back to Koji Osakaya again. It was a relaxing place where the service will be there when you need them and a quite place to chill for an evening.

I have been here a few times with friends and think it is pretty good. I had a Salmon and rice dish that was fantastic and cant wait to go back and get. My only warning is that some of the dishes can be very Japanese and use a flavor pallet that might not be to everyones liking. The wait staff can help you if you think this might be an issue.Overall I give this place a high recommendation.
