Klipgat Caves - Historical landmark in Hermanus, South Africa
Nice little cave. Nothing too special, but worth a visit nonetheless. Remember to wear proper shoes as the entrance is a bit slippery.
Was a great day of adventuring and you get a great view of the whales from the path above
Amazing break away and place to visit
Beautiful place to visit ❤️
Really beautiful and stunning place, however giving 2 stars as after we had to pay R60 each and drive to the start of the trail, it was high tide and the waves were massive and we were not able to safely get to the caves which was disappointing. We were not informed by the lady at the entrance nor was there any signage before we had to pay that it may be inaccessible at certain times of the day. We were not able to get a refund and were disappointed that we had driven almost an hour and then could not get to the caves. However during low tide I would imagine that its a really stunning and worthwhile trip.
Historical spot with beautiful views and attractions. Amazed by the caves and the insight to history it provides
Beautiful place ,had A great experience to go through Caves. Recommended.
Absolutely gorgeous. Everything was fascinating and wonderful. I cant say one bad word about this place because I honestly loved every minute when I was there today.
Nice experience. Just the normal nuisance of people with Bluetooth speakers in the caves. I also thought no pets were allowed but there were dogs on the beach.
1 Word: WOW. An amazing experience visiting these caves. A small descent and climb where some fitness is welcome, but getting there is astonishing.
What a beautiful place. The view walking down to the caves is amazing. The hike to explore the caves was exciting with each new level reveling more and more. Love love love !!!!We went off roading along the coast 4x4 and it was definitely a awsome experience ⭐⭐⭐🤩
Worth the drive!! Kind of hidden away once you get to the bottom of the stairs. Wear good footwear as there is a bit of rough and rocky bits to cross over to get to the caves!!
Beautiful hiking spot.Note the following rates when you enter :R60 for adultsR40 for ScholarsChildren under the age of 3 free. You can hike into the nature reserve free of charge
This was an amazing experience. The entry and assistance at the gate was really amazing. The views are truly breathtaking. Furthermore, the walk down the trail is refreshing and moderately intense.Walking over the rocks was a bit tricky and the there were no signage on the route, and it can cause somewhat confusion once on the platform at the bottom. The rocks and caves itself was amazing and it truly is a wonderful and historic site to visit.
The picturesque scenery was absolutely amazing! It was the best experience to explore the caves and the beaches.
A must do and a must see.beautiful
There are steps from the parking lot to the viewing point below. Some rock scrambling required to get to the caves. Not for small children or the elderly. Remember water, sunscreen and a hat!
Really interesting and awe inspiring caves, with beautiful ocean views. I would highly recommend visiting the caves.
An incredible natural heritage site. Easy to access and explore, for kids too, with lots of educational content. The Klipgat caves (stone holesopen up to stunning views of the ocean and bay through multiple chambers which can be accessed easily. Highly recommended to anyone passing the area.
Beautiful! Just a bit of a walk. So wear either hiking boots or tekkies. Not like me flip flops. 🤣
Worst experience in Cape Town!!! Do not bother… if you feel like rock climbing and no guide or advice as to where you going then sure but this should not be advised to tourists!!! It’s unsafe, neglected and no sign boards it’s all guess work!
This is a terrible place to go. The gatelady is so rude, doesnt warn you that the place has closed since covid. The guides just sat and laughed and said cause of covid , nothing is happening and its self help. The stairs are no joke just to be told that. Will never go back and wont recommend it to anyone. When we asked the gate lady, she was rude and said well i wasnt there. Most terrible place ever. What a waste of time. And money of course R60 per person, we eent in a crowd of people, in other words they just want to steal your money. Not impressed!!!
Very beautiful place to visit. There are stairs going down to the beach and then some jumping over rocks to get to the caves. Overall beautiful and worth the effort.
Definitely take time to explore the caves if you are in the area. Be ready to climb over sharp rocks and walk over slippery rocks. Definitely recommend for the explorer at heart!
I could not believe that such a majestic place existed in SA. Pictures simply dont do it justice. You have to see it for yourself. Keep in mind that you have to climb/hike a bit to reach the caves, but it is well worth it to see the views!
An absolutely stunning place.. Can be seen via a short walk from the Walker Bay Nature Reserve.
Google says this is temporarily closed but it definitely isnt. Its well worth a trip to see the beautiful ocean and the caves! Take cash to pay the entrance fee... its R60 per adult.
Wonderful place! But if I was not a hiker and seriously looking for a place like this, I would not have known it existed!
Worth the trip. Beautiful views and caves. Lots of steps down to the beach and caves but once you are its totally worth it.
Nice outing, gorgeous views and beach. Lots of steps to get to the beach and back to the parking area, remember there is an entry fee as it is part Walker Bay Nature reserve. Historical site dating back to the stone age. I guess it was" The Clifton" many ages ago........
Worth the trip. Check tide tables - at high tide our access to the first cave (and significant displays beyondwas limited. Such rich history, well preserved, well explained, and some rock jumping access made us feel as though we had earned the discovery.
What a great experience. Quite easy to find and not too dangerous to get there. Nice and clean with no garbage - lets keep it that way.
A historical point of interest.🕳️ "Footprints in the sand", a prehistorical journey. There are lots of reports and infos available. Before or after your Walker Bay🏞️ experience a must do location. Best access via Ganbaai, De Kelders , Normandie St towards the entrance of Walker Bay 🏞️ Nature Reserve. Paying the small entry fees and enjoy a day at Walker Bay and the awesome Klipgat caves.
I had a fabulous time at Klipgat Cave.
This is a wonderful place with an amazing history. It is the second oldest cave in the world with the relics in the Natural History Museum in New York. The views from the cave are spectacular and you feel like a part of history when you are there.
Stunning place. No public toilet available though
Would recommend to anyone seeking a nice therapeutic experience, a chill by the caves without much noise and just the serene sound of water. The caves area could do with some guided routes and historical information show boards.
Excellent, and a must visit. You must be able to climb over some rocks, and remember to go through the first cave, otherwise you will miss the second one.
Go through walker Bay nature reserve to find caves. Beautiful and make sure you climb over the view rocks into first cave and go through it into the main cave. Worth a visit
Situated in Walker Bay Nature Reserve, a really beautiful setting. If you dont like stairs this one is not for you but you can still enjoy the scenery from the carpark. We loved walking through the caves and that there is minimal development/interference around the site. Hoping it stays that way!
It was fun but really tiring I suggest you take water with you and do not wear a jeans of a long sleeve and there are many bees👖🐝
Amazing to experience the place where people lived thousands of years ago.
Really beautiful and very easy to access. You just pay to enter the nature reserve, walk down the stairs next to the parking lot, and walk over the rocks to get to the caves. Once youre inside the first cave, there is a wooden boardwalk to the other two. It was not very crowded when we went in the morning around 9.
Very beautiful. Entrance is R50 , kids under 12 are R30 and children under 3 are free. If you want to go 4X4ing , make sure youre tires are all 1 bar before you get to the sand part, the rocks at the beginning are very tough on your tires. Awesome hiking routes as well.
Very little direction signage but stairways and platforms reasonably maintained and no litter. Beautiful scenery
Great place, quiet at times, can climb over rocks, see a cave, and chill on the beach nearby.
Fabulous ... well worth a visit. Watch out for the bees, take the sign seriously.
Amazing network of Caves once inhabited by humans thousands of years ago. A Wild Card gets you in for free. Enter at the boom and park your car at the parking area. Walk down about a hundred steps to get to the caves area. On spring high tide access be tricky. Watch out for the bee hive on the roof of the entrance of the cave. Be cautious not to disturb the bees. There are some more caves on the far right hand side rock
Beautiful. Worth the climb down to the caves
Beautiful rocks and caves but such a shame that they had to put in walk ways and mess it up :( I wish they had just let the caves be.
