Its beautiful in its own way.. heads up though.. these are actual caves.. you climb into them. Some safety gear is suggested and even required for some caves. The ranger was extremely friendly and helpful. Camping was first come first serve. 10$ a night clean.. quiet.. with real bathrooms and running water.

Mich of the water has dried up, so there wasnt much in the way of marshes/mudflats. However, what we found in and around the refuge proved to be very productive birding.

The First Refuge in America..Its sad the the Water issue has had such a huge impact and where the Migrating birds can rest during there migration..The local population has been hit hard by drought and mis appropriation of Water and funding..Still a wonderful place to visit.

Great for birding, even at this "slower" time of year. Wish birds werent hunted here though as makes them hard to observe and photograph.

This place in the California-Oregon border has a different beauty altogether. The view of Mount Shasta is breathtaking in this sweeping landscape. Mainly a farm country, there is plenty to see and photograph. It is an winter heaven for raptors photography and landscapes. I visited for two days and already want to go back again before this winter (not much snowis passed. Just 6 hours drive from the heart of Silicone Valley, this place is a must visit for any nature lovers and enthusiasts.

Came here off season, so I didn’t get to see any eagles or anything “super super” cool however, we drove around and go to see lots of pretty birds just chilling. The amount of mosquitoes were frightening so we stayed inside the car, but we were still able to see plenty from the car. Got to great shots of birds too!

Wonderful place to visit in the wintertime if you want to see bald eagles, rough-legged hawks, ferruginous hawks and prairie falcons. It can be cold & windy so dress warm; down jacket, scarf, hat, good gloves.
