Hillside garden & nature reserve with rare plant species, walking trails & mountain views.
Absolutely beautiful gardens. Whether you want to picnic, walk, take pictures or learn this place has it all. There are informations boards up throughout telling you about different plants, animals and artworks. The paths are very nice and directional signs are very helpful. Plants and view of mountain are beautiful and make for a calming experience. Lots of great picnic spots too. There is also a stream that kids love to play in, with a shady spot for parents to sit on the grass nearby. (I’ve got lots of good memories playing in that stream when I was little)The Boomslang tree canopy walkway is amazing and provides an awesome view and photo opportunity. If you haven’t been or are just looking for a day to appreciate nature, be sure to come to Kirstenbosch gardens!
STUNNING!!! An absolute must for any plant lover. Beautifully maintained gardens and walkways. It is a large area to walk around.Souvenir shop has lovely gifts to buy.Just to sit on the lawn in the shade of an old tree and look at all the wonderful flowers and plants is so relaxing.Ample free parking available.SA residents must produce some form of ID in order to qualify for SA resident rates. (At the time of writing this SA residents entry fee was R90 for adults and non-SA was about R210.)A must residents and tourists in the area.
Absolutely stunning botanical garden. Lots of options for routes to take. Very scenic and peaceful. Oh and the birds, such a beautiful selection
Ooh, one of my most favourite places to visit. Its awfully pretty any time of the year, and you can be lazy and relaxed (there is a whole wonder of a garden and you can pick your spotor you can be up and at it (with so many pathways and trails to explore). If you are South African, remember to take your ID with for a substantially discounted entrance fee.
Absolutely one of South Africas most beautiful Botanical Gardens!! 🌳If you are in Cape Town and love to explore nature. Please stop by and soak it all in!! If you are up for a bit of a hike, make your way to the "Boomslang" it is like a bridge that goes through the trees and you will have this amazing view! There is a restaurant in the park as well if you did not bring anything a long, but a nice picnic will be a phenomenal idea!!
Kirstenbosch is a very beautiful serene place of nature. A place where you can go picnic, hike and explore. It will exceed your expectations over and over again. My highlights were the amazing streams that you pass by and also the boomslang Bridge.
Compared to previous visits, many areas are showing signs of neglect. Weeds in paved areas, missing identification tags, hanging baskets not looking tended. A pity as this garden used to be such a proud South African showpiece. Hopefully an effort will be made to increase funds, maintenance and TLC!The restaurant in the gardens could not accommodate us for lunch even though many tables seemed to be available. Fortunately, Fynkos, the tea room at the main entrance, could help and the service and food were excellent.
If you visit Cape Town, this is a must! This botanical garden is up there with the best! It offers fauna and flora, birds and lots of gorgeous flowers, rolling lawns!Perfect for picnics, gatherings, a day in Nature! If you a photographer, go early do you can be there to take photographs of birds and flowers!
It was beautiful!! This was my second visit to the magnificent Kirstenbosch Garden, and it is still as clean and attractive as I remembered many years back!! I would definitely suggest anyone to pay this lovely garden a visit when you are in the neighbourhood or anywhere close to the Cape. It all ofcourse depends on when you choose to visit as its close to winter now, I saw other plants in bloom as to when I went during the summer many years ago so, but I dont think you could be dissapointed by what you see as there is such a large variety that there are always plants happy enough to show their beautiful colours.
Amazing park, it is really big so you should take out plenty of time if you want to do all 28 highlights. The tree canopy walk is the main attraction but is very short so if you go just for this don’t be disappointed. The price is 210RND per person for international’s.
Nice place, not too crowded at the beginning of september. Flowers are starting to bloom then. I would recommend going a few weeks later though, I think weather will be better and more flowers will be blooming.
Loved the Walk/Hike. Looking above kirstenboch Was beautiful, so many on the trails. After a good family hike we chose a spot under an oak tree and had some refreshing edibles and good laughs and caught some snoozes in too.
Really enjoyed the tour of Pam. She was really enthusiastic and was telling new info. She was also interested in the group she was leading which made us feel we had a connection. She is 79, and she doesnt sound like someone of this age. Please keep going the next 20 years. We also loved the botanical garden, its one special place, maybe the most special one we ever visited.ThanksThe couple from the Netherlands 1st September.
We could have spent the entire day there, but time was not on our side. The most spectacular views right next to the majestic mountain. The gardens are kept to a very high standard with a vast variety of Flora. The Boomslang Treetop walk was the highlight for the children. We parked right at the top to where Google maps directed us and not the botanical garden entrance. This meant less walking (and complainingfor the children to enjoy the tree top walk.
Unique experience, definitely bigger than I thought it was. You can easily spent up to two hours here if youd like (maybe even more). Lots of benches and grass, you can picnic here if you like. Do keep in mind that there are no rubbish bins in the park. The park has sooo many botanical species. Of course the best time to visit would be during blossoming season. The view of the mountains in the background makes it a beautiful park, not to be missed if youre spending days in Cape Town
Beautiful beautiful place! So peaceful and huge - one can easily spend a whole day wondering around, even two. The gift shop is also beautiful :)
A must see in Cape Town. Its a delightful walk around the unique gardens. The tree canopy walk is spectacular and the greenery is just plain good for your soul.
Great afternoon exploring the gardens. The tree canopy walk was good fun and there are so many different sections that there is something for everyone. Helpful staff, large shop and a cafe with free WiFi.
The most beautiful big botanical garden I have ever seen. Entrance fee is 210 rand. It can be made a picnic with family. If you want walking all the garden you should take the time min 2 hours.
Beautiful ... recommended for plant and nature lovers it is the largest botanical garden in South Africa open since 1913.You can see all the botanical species characteristic of the South African Mediterranean climate, the area of succulents and bonsai located near the entrance is very interesting.
This place is amazing - the flowers, trees, birds, well manicured lawns and paths...and even the food at the Tea Room, incredible! Yes, we went during "winter," but, it was still beautiful and I would highly recommend it. Youll need at least half a day if you want to see the whole place and enjoy it leisurely. Dont forget the food! We cant wait to come back in the summer!
Beautiful park with many paths and huge selection of botanics to see. You could spend hours walking via the various paths on a sunny day. A must in your visit to Cape town if you enjoy spending time in nature
Amazing place to visit. The aloes were in flower and I have never seen so many sunbirds in one area. Southern double-collared sunbird mainly. Even heard a fish eagle. There must be a body of water nearby. Many picnicers on the grassed areas. Amazing variety of plants and trees most with id tags. They even have a braille trail. Picnic baskets can be bought at the restaurant. Find a place to sit eat and enjoy the views
Today I decided to visit the most beautiful Botanical Gardens in South Africa. Yes, it represented the name. It exceptionally excellent and phenomenal. As a horticulturist I was happy with the standard and learnt a lot. Has a huge space for various outdoors activities. I encourage that everyone attends this Garden when they are in the city. Really shows the Western Capes biodiversity and exotics as well.
Very disappointing. I think you have to be really fascinated by plants to enjoy this venue, very few flowers just a lot of plants and trees that get pretty dull pretty quick. If you have absolutely nothing better to do then it might be ok but this is the least enjoyable place we have been to in CapeTown so definitely do not recommend it!
One of the most beautiful gardens I have been to.1. Easy access to the park.2. If youre a SA citizen make sure you carry your ID for local rates3. So many fun trails to walk through4. The pathways are easily labeled so it keeps you on track5. There are a variety of places to find your ideal meal. The restaurant/ tea garden or Vida6. The gift store is beautifully laid out and the prices are reasonable7. It has some of the most beautiful views I have seen.
Beautiful setting. Service is friendly and kind. Value for money. Maybe my palate is different I found the sweet too sweet. I prefer to manage my own quantity of sauces on my foods.
It is so beautiful and peaceful here and such an amazing variety of plants and vegetation it distracts you from the stress of everyday life. There are no dustbins in the park, this is to keep scavengers and rodents to a minimum. So pretty please take your own refuze bag and dont litter like some people still do.
A beautiful botanical garden with an abundance of indigenous flora. Be prepared for a long walk during your visit as the garden is incredibly large. The bonsai exhibition at the entrance is a must see as well as a walk on the Boomslang.
Beautiful and scenic adventure for the whole family. Great place to take a loved one and is big enough to spend the entire day there. The tree bridge was absolutely breathtaking and I cant wait to go back. The staff are friendly and the gardens are well maintained. By far the best botanical garden.
A must do when visiting Cape Town. Absolutely stunning. Its a massive botanical garden, so you could spend hours there. Its a beautiful place to visit to spend time with family, learn about local history and enjoy remarkable views. Expect lots of walking. You can go on your own or take a guided tour. Definitely make time for this place on your trip to Cape Town. I recommend going in the morning when it opens, ahead of crowds and the heat.
Beautiful botanical garden right next to the mountains. Well kept and nice picnic areas. Toilet facilities clean. Definitely a must visit when you are in Cape Town.
First visit and not sure why I have never been. Lovely outing, lots to see and very well maintained. We went on a Tuesday and then pensioners enter for free. We had the most amazing scones at the Fynkos Tea Room. Will definitely go back to watch a concert at the amphitheatre.
Simply gorgeous. Its so huge you could keep coming back and always find something new. My favourite parts were the Camphor Avenue, the Canopy Walkway and the Birds Bath. If I lived in Cape Town I would definitely be a member just so I could visit anytime I want.
Ah! Shouldve visit this beauty of a garden ages ago.It is a very relaxing environment. And a beautiful local site seeing adventure. It really is peaceful as well.
Im not into botanical gardens but this place (7th best botanical garden in the Worldreally impressed me. Ideal for a romantic stroll, a day out for children to learn about different flora & fauna, or even just people needing to take some time in nature and de-stress, then this place is ideal for you.
Lovely Hugh botanical garden. A lot to see and walk inside amazing jungles and grasses. I was shocked by the amount of kinds of plants in this garden. Extremely fabulous and recommended for all ages.
Do you know what a magnificent venue this makes for a wedding? Getting married is possible here in the Sculpture Garden, with the mountain in the backdrop. Or create s wedding proposal here - if you know whose this proposal I captured, please do let me know in the comments. Would love to hear what happened!
Absolutely gorgeous! Very well maintained, with plenty of amazing routes. Only thing that I would complain about is that foreigners have to pay x2,5 times the South African rate of R80. I visited with a European National, and he had to pay R200, while I paid so much LESS for NO reason. He felt like it was a case of Xenophobia. Uncomfortable situation for both us and the front desk lady - poor her for having to deal with this on a daily basis - having to explain that its only because hes foreign.
This is the most amazing place i have ever been to. From going to a summer concert to exploring from the top of the treetops. Always have an amazing time here. I looking forward to my next visit as one always find a new piece of the garden. It’s massive. And amazing. Bests views in Cape Town. Located along the M63 on your way to Houtbay.
Admission for non South Africans is 200zar. Pre-prepare to spend an entire day here which may not even be enough. There are many shaded places to sit down and have a picnic. There is actually no point to get the map which they sell at the counter for 10. You can use your phone on Google maps to see how much better detailed view of the place and where you are. Just take a picture of the map at the entrance and it will help you find your way around.
If you’re a nature lover then this is your spot! Beautiful mountain peak and love the green scenery in the park. The park is located just about 15 minutes away from Cape Town City Centre. There are many different kind of flowers/plants, great walk/hike place with beautiful scenery. Nature at its perfection. It’s a great picnic spot. The park has some great eateries too for breakfast/lunch/brunch that serve great food, coffee and cocktails. Highly recommend it.
We visited for the Thursday airing of the Galileo Open Air Theatre and it was a magical experience. We witnessed a shooting star that made the night so much more memorable.
Lovely gardens full of interesting plants and trees on several levels. Most have have their names and history. Take the tour the guides are very helpful with pointing out interesting items
Magical. A must see. Truly spectacular natural beauty. Walking, picnic. Lots of open spaces with perfectly kept lawns. Every imaginable plant with mountain streams and magnificent views and mountains. Green, lush, beautiful with 3 restaurants and clean, well kept bathrooms. By chance I saw an old acquaintance with her family from Pretoria, Potchefstroom and the Netherlands, as they were taking photos at a stream in Kirstenbosch.
Stunning! Absolutely gorgeous. I didnt have enough time to stay and take it all in. Must revisit. If you plan a first-time trip plan for hours to leisurely stroll, perhaps eat at the restaurant or take a picnic. So many sights to see. Nature at its best 👌🏾.
Great day out! Carry your picnic basket and wear ur walking shoes and enjoy. No bins so be prepared to carry your own waste/litter home. Very clean and calm.
If you love nature, its a must and if you dont you will fall in love with nature.A map is available at a small fee. (R10The canopy walk is a must. The location of the bath feels like something from a fairy-tale. Youll be excused if you hear Angels singing. This is not and should not be a brief visit.
Galileo open air cinema, blankets were R10 and backrests R20. You are able to bring a blanket. This is recommended. It does become chilly the later the night goes on. Movie starts after sunset.Great atmosphere. Not much options for food, but what is available, is nice. Oldie movies but classics. The gardens itself is beautiful.
Great outing. Worth it when the weather is nice. Very clean and well maintained. Lots to see and far to walk should you wish to. I would bring a jacket since the weather can change quickly. Great starting point for hikes as well. We did have so issue with the online ticket purchases but we were allowed in at the end. The boomslang walkway is a must!!
