Świetny hostel, fajna obsługa
Good Central location, friendly staff, rooms are cozy
Great place! Clean.Amazing staff and a great experience
Ross and staff were very nice and helpful. Late check in wasnt a problem.
Excellent hostel. Ive stayed in quite a few and this is in the top 3. Great staff. Good facilities. Good location. Clean and quiet.
Freezing cold & dirty
Good and bad. Nice staff, new duvets and 2 good pillows! But basically it is a 60s/70s dorm block, with some areas like the toilets not being upgraded since then. It was fine, just very old school and tatty. Needs a total refurb. A good 15 min walk into town.
Clean and very well ran. Lovely staff
Pleasant staff, relaxed atmosphere and quiet away from road traffic. All on ground floor, and plenty of parking. Old-style shower cubicles with plenty of hot water. Kitchen facilities good.Downside of ones visit could be the cold Drying Room - definitely not ideal if getting back with wet gear.
Ok, so not my favorite place to stay. The areas are a little run-down and could use an update but overall clean. There are laundry facilities. If you plan on checking in before 17:00 let reception know a day ahead - otherwise no one will be there. This hostel had a more mature crowd (age range of people I talked to 35-60yrs), and its pretty quiet at night. Theres a shared kitchen and several toilet facilities. They sell breakfast. Overall fine.
Its basic, as youd expect. The rooms are fairly small and cosy but it reflects the price completely. Kitchen area is well kitted out and theres a room full of games and books as well. Staff were really helpful, one even printed off a parkrun barcode at reception for me twice! Lots of leaflets for things to do locally also, and the walk into the centre of Kirkwall is short.
It was very clean and we had our keys waiting for us when we arrived very late.
Very friendly place.
Class place. Cheap as chips to
Comfy beds clean & reasonable price
Very accommodating and its quite cozy in the lounge area.
Lovely helpful staff and comfy bed
The staff here are really lovely and helping. Its a great spot. The kitchen and lounge area are huge. The washroom is more than adequate, and the machines work great. Kirkwall isnt big, so the hostel was situated close enough to everything. I was delighted to have two pillows in my bunk, and the room was very clean. There is a locker in the room for every bed, but youll need to bring your own lock.I definitely plan on coming to Orkney again, and this is where Ill stay.
Satisfied with Hostel, no issues
Great place to stay for a few days or a week or so.
Nice enough place to stay. Not cheap though for what you get. No TV or coffee/tea making facilities and you have to use the bathrooms down the hall which are bit date, especially the showers. It was however spotlessly clean and the reception staff were incredibly professional and friendly. It is a reasonable walk from town and facilities but not a deal breaker.
Great hostel. Warm. Thick duvet, adequate mattress. Shower paint peeling off floor, but hot water. Lots of crockery, cutlery snd kitchen utensils.
Good place to stay on Orkney but a little bit run down. Its worth the money though!
Brilliant staff and accomodation
We made a tour around Scotland including Edinburg, Glasgow, Oban, Outer Hebrides, Skye, Inverness and the Orkneys. And we visited a few hostels and guesthouses. For us Kirkwall Youth Hostel proofed to be the best of them all.It was fine because of lots of reasons. The rooms are very good. There are showers and toilets enough. A huge kitchen at your disposal. And the staff, including cleaning, are very friendly and helping. The top of all this was the carpeting of floors in the corridors reduced a lot of the normal noise. The environment is very silent so we have slept very wel and quiet. No television, no music. Nowadays everybody has its own.We recommend this hostal to everybody who wants to stay in Kirkwall. It will be hard to find a better option.
Very very nice staff showers could get like of paint and new floors and better showers bedrooms could have a like of paint as well but Everything else ok
The hostel is about a 15 minute walk from city center and is in a very residential area. There is Wi-Fi only in the common rooms and none in the bedrooms. The bathrooms are outdated and grungy. The shower rooms do not offer much privacy. I had no problems with my stay amd has friendly staff. The main downside is the dated facilities.
Friendly, clean, well equipped, budget hostel. Great base for exploring mainland Orkney. Impressed with the nice leather sofas in the common room. Well equipped, clean kitchen.
Nice rooms with few beds in. Wi-Fi didnt reach rooms. Bathrooms were pretty dated. Breakfast was £5.50 but not worth it. Nice people.
Auberge de jeunesse sympa. Bon rapport qualité prix. Très bon accueil du personnel. Très bon équipement de la cuisine commune
Great hostel of Hostelling Scotland
great base for getting around Orkney Islands. Scenic drive from the ferry ports on arrival, cosy accommodation, hot showers, helpful staff and great kitchen
Goede kamers, ruime eetzaal. Weinig toiletten.
Helt ok standard. Trivelig personal. Rent og pent.
For a bare minimum hostel its very nice
Camere semplici e pulite.
Always helpful and friendly, got in late from the ferry to a warm welcome
Great staff. Good kitchen facilities. Close walk or ride to town.
Muy bueno por el precio. Limpio
Great
Well priced and decent accommodation
Grim. Ive never left a negative review before. 50 pounds for one night in a cold & ugly double room. Thin duvets, no food, two narrow beds, no facilities, change your own bed in the morning. Cold showers.Glorious view from the bedroom window of a mould -coverd concrete block. Id understand if this was a money-grasping business but the SYHA is supposed to be a charity.
Good value and has all the functioning facilities you might want. The bike shed had recently blown away but there were practical alternatives in place. Not a very attractive SYHA to be honest though and make sure you follow the International YH signs out of Kirkwall to find it.
