Youll see lots of these and better on the way (black sand beach), you can keep going

Amazing site in a large grass field. It looks almost like man made, thats why it is so wonderful, takes about 20 minutes round trip from the parking lot. Like most of Iceland attractions, its free. Very few visitors.

The parking is just a few minutes of walk away, but the landscape is gorgeous. Walking on these basalt formation is special!

Not very impressive but a nice 5 minutes walk among sheep and green as far as the eye can see...

The floor made of lava formation looks like a Church floor. Great stop over for a small walk. It can be covered with snow and invisible in winter. The landscape around is stunning.

Short walk from the parking lot to Kirkjugólf.Its a small area where basalt columns formed many years ago. Interesting to read about the formation

Totally NOT worth visiting in winter when it is covered by snow. You cant see anything. The good thing is that it is close to the Ring road. If you drive further, there is nice waterfall after the bridge.

One of the small attrction off off the ring road to Hofn. Basalt column you can walk on.

Very cool place to visit. Not as tourist oriented as many similar places in iceland

Nice curiosum, but not really worth the detour. But of you go there anyway, visit also the waterfalls 300m down the road (same parking).

A small but beautiful site. Visit Kirkjugólf if youre traveling by and have a few minutes to spare.

Small little stop right off the road. It takes about five minutes to get to it from the parking lot. I enjoyed seeing a different view of the basalt columns. Also there were sheep in the field when we arrived!

Take a short, pretty walk through a field of sheep and see some more columnar basalt from a different view. Great signage, nice to stretch your legs while touring the South coast for a few minutes

Interesting rock formation... really not worth the hike to be honest compared to everything else around you.

Fun roadside stop. Theyre all over Iceland but these are easily accessible if youre in the area.

Not the only place youll see something like this in Iceland but definitely a cool road stop with lots less crowding than maybe other locations

Short walk of five mins from the parking lot behind you to this point .. its amazing to see how the lava basalt rocks form hexagonal shaped like everything else in the nature have their own color and shapes.. if you are on the way, do visit this place.. there are two camping sites near by..

Nice stones, very close to the road. But not as impressive as many other sites in iceland, thus only 4 stars

Not as impressive as most Icelandic sights, but if your in the area and the weather is nice, its worth a quick look!

Interesting to see, especially if you know, that it was created by nature and not by human beings. From the parking place it is about 300m walk.

Not that special but worth visit because it is a one minute walk from the 1.One of the few places in Iceland that we visited without having other tourists around, which was a nice change

Not much there, but very interesting for geology buffs. Great surrounding, and a hike that goes up to the site where two witches were killed if you have the time.

Awesome stop off the road going east. Geological formation, which is a must if you love geology, photography or just something cool!

Easy to get to, interesting little site

Nothing spectacular if youre in a rush, but this is a nice walk on the outskirts of town thatll take you to an interesting little geological formation.

Very cool rock formation. Park in front of the gas station N1 follow the path and youll be there in no time

excellent road side treasure. Called the church floor this little natural basalt wonder is a 2 min walk from the road and is really a fun little treat. spend the extra 10 min to check this out.

A short walk from the main road. The stones resemble a tiled floor. On one side you can see the stones rising from the ground.

Short easy walk from the designated lot. Neat little geological formation that looks like a tile floor. A few minutes from the highway. Good place to check out when youre getting gas from N1.

The Kirkjugólf hexagonal basalt column formation is situated just a short walk east of the campingsite Kirkjubæjarklaustur II. While you are out walking, be sure to have the time for the trip up the hill, just behind the small farm with a small "forest" around it.Up threre is a superb veiw over the plain and the farm land, and the beautiful lake Systravatn. Then, at the outlet of the lake, there is a steep path down along the beautiful waterfall.
