The Kirkee War Cemetery at Pune (formerly Poona), India. The Memorial commemorates nearly two thousand soldiers who served and died in India during the 1914-1918 War, who are buried in many civil and cantonment cemeteries in India and Pakistan where their graves can no longer be properly maintained

Entry is not allowed inside the cemetery. So you can only see from outside and not actually enter in the place. Moreover since its situated right beside a busy road, it didnt turn out to be peaceful as expected.

Its beautiful, its quiet and its still.Well maintained and picturesque.Spend some time here and remember the people who laid down their lives for our nation.

Can I still go visit now??

The war cemetery were soldiers from WW1 and WW2 have been buried. Some of them had their graves in other parts of the country, but because there was no assurance of a permanent cemetery, they were brought here and re-buried.

I feel lucky to be in a place where I can bow down in peace and pay respect to the martyrs of WW2.I never got an opportunity to get inside but yeah it was really amazing experience just being at the place. Would love to go inside and visit each tombstone.Great work and efforts on the people who are handling and maintaining such a beautiful place.

Very Good historical place to visit

Silent place and attached to various honourable warriors.

Quiet and peaceful place. It is very well maintained. Once here you are bound to slip into a pensive mood. Reading the inscriptions on the tombstones really makes you think of the martyrs in world wars - some of them very young - and how their loss might have affected their families.

The Kirkee War Cemetery is a cemetery in Khadki, a town near Pune in Maharashtra, India. The cemetery was created to provide graves for the fallen from central and western India in the Second World War, where there could not be certainty about their graves elsewhere being permanently maintained.

Beautiful and well maintained

It is the war memorial in the Second World War memorials. It is maintained very well. In this place 629 bodies are buried here from different countries. You can see the details of the soldiers and there country. There names are also marked on the stone pice. There are beautiful gardens and walk ways. You can find seats to sit there boundaries. There are people who where working here to maintain the garden. You can enter here without any restrictions. And it is really a nice place if you have a chance to visit there.

Peaceful place, nicely maintained

A well maintained, beautifully landscaped, war cemetery. It is just next to the Mula River.In order to enter, you just need to ask permission from the manger who can be found in the building just opposite to the cemetery.As you enter, make an entry in the visitors register. This cemetery, revives the respect for the fallen men & women, and our uniformed men & women in the borders, protecting us selflessly.The atmosphere is filled with patriotism which is almost palpable.A must visit place, & if you have enough time, make sure you read the writings in each gravestone. There are men as young as 19 years old. The heartbreaking lines will either leave you with pride filled heart or tear filled eyes.Most Cantonments have a war cemetery which have been maintained really well. The visitors mostly include family, friends & relatives of the fallen.Foreign men & women fighting for their country, who died for their country, & were buried in a foreign land with a folded flag received by their family. If this doesn’t motivate you to visit & pay your respects, I don’t know what will.

A monument of international importance located in the khadki cantonment area of Pune is the War cemetery. The tombstones of more than 1600 soldiers from world war II are located here. About 660 tombstones belonging to martyrs of World War I were shifted here from the Sewri war cemetery of Bombay due to lack of maintenance there. The memorials belong to soldiers from various religions, countries.An extremely well maintained place, with the names of each of the soldiers inscribed. It is open from 8 am to 7 pm. The garden is beautiful adding to the tranquility of the place.

FYI - Photography is not allowed anymore. mobile camera can be used for now, they will ban it soon once they make a place for mobiles to be deposited before going in.

A very beautifully maintained place. Every inch of cemetery is nurtured from WW2, this place contains record and names of all those who soldiers of royal Navy and British army, who died in the Indian region in both World Wars. Moreover, this little garden is a symbol of protection of India in World Wars.

I accidentally discovered this place, it was the best discovery so far. Best place if you want to find peace away from citys hustle. This place gives you total solace. Best time to visit 7am to 10am

One of the best cemeteries I have ever seen. Well maintained. The care taker or the one who sees for the maintainence of the cemetry stays right in front of the cemetry. It is very beautiful and people often come here for photoshoots.
