Kip’s Bar and Grill in Berkeley

Tried a variety of cocktails that were pretty standard and nothing unique. Food was typical bar quality. Price was good for the area. Atmosphere was college bar.

Sleezy bar. Terrible vibe. Its already uncomfortably hot, paired with steam cannons and a packed crowd, its unbearable.

Great for watching college football on game day. Ive heard its a club at night too, but seemed very laid back during the day.

This place is closed for good, yet it says it’s open

Terrible business run by money hungry people. Low quality people run this place and the entire setup and experience reflects that

I have never felt so disrespected against and discriminated against. I will never be returning to this venue again. Manager was disgustingly rude and discriminatory and as a black person I feel embarrassed to have given even one second of my second of my time to this business.

I was mugged here (including of my cellphone), and the Bar staff wouldnt even let me use their phone to call for help or the police. Avoid at all costs.

The mood really sets in after around midnight. Will definitely recommend for a lively weekend night! There is one pool table at the back. Even though it was hard to make your shots because there were girls dancing in the pool table space, I enjoyed my time playing here.

5 stars for the bartenders. They do their best. The atmosphere is meh. The food is basic bar food. Good burgers and wings for the low. Good for last minute plans. Kitchen closes at 11.

Their customer service and music is really sad. I asked the two bartenders if we could change the music and they continued to both tell me I was too intoxicated when in reality I was sober and was just irritated at the music choice. Many people left to a bar across the street due to the music. In addition to the music they operate a low quality taco shop. The food is edible.

I began coming here as a little kid in the early 50s. I remember their awesome char-grilled burgers. The grill was out in the open area for everyone to see, it was wonderful!!! Not sure they have that grill anymore, it was great while they had it!!!

This is one of my favorite places to go for several reasons. They have a variety of beers,a dance floor, and the bartender and security staff are amazing. Things that stand out, they have sour beers which I love. The bar tender (Johnnyprovided me & my peers with excellent service. I had such a nice experience that I had to ask him for his name. He makes the environment way more chill and has great vibes. He is also one of the fastest bartenders there. I havent had a bad drink from him yet. Yes I recommend this place. And if you want to have a good time ask for Johnny!! :)

Perfect day drinking spot. Chilly is the best bartender, hands down. The garlic fries are garlicky and the fish bowls are huge and strong!

1st time ive been here and its a collage crowd...pretty decent size and also has a 💃 floor and serves food until 10 or 11 i believe....if u arnt a student theres a $5 cover..when we came...so make aure you have you students ID or your gonna have to pay the cover

What in gods name is this place. I just really needed a drink because it was so cold lately but, damn. I feel as though they need to remodel or do something to fix it up. The other young patrons were incredibly rude, and I doubt the staff even noticed. They were too preoccupied with the other people. What gives. If you want to go to a dive bar, this okay, I guess. Its hard to find establishments I suppose in the college towns...

It was alright has a really younger crowd music was fine but because of poor air circulation it can get hot humid and musty, over all its alright if you dont mind those things. And also lots of Asians go there just thought i put that out there

Either ridiculously busy or dead. Never in between. The bartenders are nice enough, drinks are priced alright compared to competition. Honestly this is usually a place a stop by between bars, usually not the main event.

The whole place needs to be fix and clean probably they need bar rescue on the show of a good remodeling and good food quality. Still a good place to good and be cool to have pool tables and dance floors and arcades. Nice they have big screen T.V. need to make it great again for more future good times to role again.

My backgammon club meets on the second Saturday of every month. Thanks for accommodating us. I typically have the Kip Classic Burger and fries. Good burger for the price. Plenty of TV monitors to watch a variety of sports. Cozy enviromnent.

Kips is a great place for drinks, food & sports. They have a large selection of beers & food. I visit kips every time Im in the area. Definitely try this place.

Cocktails were surprisingly good. I had a really great margherita here. They have some fun games for your group to hang and play. We used it as a place to pre-game for clubbing and we enjoyed it.

Kips be the spot for food, dancing, drinks, meeting new people and just straight all out fun and more!!! The bouncers there make u feel safe and the bartenders are really awesome!!!

Had to wait a long time for my order. Finally they let me know what was taking my order so long and they told me they were taking care of uber eats shouldve let me know what was taking my order so long earlier.

Its not a restaurant, its a college kids bar, which turns into a club at night. Expect the usual frat house condition, sticky floor, long lines to dirty bathrooms. But still fun every once in a while to go and let loose.

Went to Kips to watch G.S. WARRIORS game. Ordered Pineapple Fish bowl to share, Western burger and 5 tacos on Tuesday night. The burger came out first, 45 minutes after we ordered it. Having inquired about our drink, she admitted to forgetting to place drink order. 5 minutes later, we finally get our libation. She charges $35 for the drink, when they were on special for $25. Apparently the "special " had ended at 8pm. It was now 830. I explained that we ordered the drink well before 8 and were forced to suffer from dry mouth for way too long. Too bad, so sad. Shortly thereafter, my tacos arrived. Lots of screens, upbeat vibe, good food, and billiards are enough to return. Service and reconciliation difficult to attain.

Way too loud to hold a conversation, even after an employee politely turned down the sound system. This was at 10 pm on a Thursday. The food was tasty.

This place may be a bit worn and unhealthy, but we got into town late on a Wed night and hadnt eaten dinner and this place was perfect. A beer and a plate of fried food, quickly, plenty of places to sit, and no fuss. I had fish & chips and my wife had tatchos (a giant pile of tater tots covered in vegetarian nacho toppings). This is a large, spacious, dingy college bar with a decent menu of deep fried food, and the kitchen was open after nine. Thats what we came for, and we were pleased!

Music is awesome. This places thrives on people trying to release their sexual tensions. So if thats what you wanna do, this is your heaven. No real dance happening. Too loud to talk, too small to even stand amidst grinding asses.

I allowed Kips to run a tab on my card on Saturday, January 20th, 2017. I was in Berkeley to watch a basketball game. The day after my visit, someone tried to charge $344 of clothing to my card in San Francisco. I have not been to San Francisco in 3 months, and had not used this card for four (4weeks prior, nor anytime afterwards. I tried to call during business hours to alert the restaurant what happened, and they did not pick up. I am fairly certain that someone from the restaurant was involved in the fraud because the card is a new RFID-safe AMEX and cannot be scanned from a distance. It had to be read with a skimmer or by someone who had direct access to the card. Beware.

A classic college bar, kinda grungy and skip the food entirely, but if you want dancing and fishbowls full of sugary alcohol this is the place to come. I will say they have an excellent selection of beers. They used to have a great wing Wednesday, but lately it’s just been going up constantly so now it’s $9 for 8 wings. Not a deal at all. Like I said, skip the food.

Very fun place. Pretty packed most of the time where you can barely move and packed dance floor. That makes it not everybodys cup of tea but its a college bar and if thats what you are looking for its very fun. Service can be medium slow sometimes but thats not because of the service but just because the place is usually packed. Overall good staff and fun experience just depends on what you are looking for

I go to Kips every so often. It was one of the first bars in Berkeley ive been to. Delicious drinks and good bartender service. However, sometimes, it get can kinda awful. One of the security guards there took me and my friends seat, although we have been sitting in the same spot for 5 hours. A guy who knew him asked him to take it from us. He didnt even give us a reason. So... it seems some type of power hierarchy exists here. Thats bad for your customers. Luckily, I didnt want to escalate it because I wanted to have a good time but just be aware.

Laidback atmosphere. Dance floor, pool table. Great place to hang out at.

Casual, chill atmosphere. Great burger, love their pico and Chipotle Sauce, karaoke nights always lit

Early in the evening, its a nice quiet place to grab a beer from an excellent list and have a bite of some very decent food.

Theo and Bruna are the best bartenders ever.On that note this bar is fun. Has a photo booth. And on weekends the downstairs dance floor opens. Which is always fun.They have a great food menu which Ive tried most of but my ultimate favorite is the angus hamburger and the chicken strips and the BLT with chips and salsa on the side Ill always come visit cause the bartenders make me feel at home but in a better enviroment. Great place to get drinks with friends. A cheaper option compared to the other bars in the area. There are events happening relatively frequently. The service is good. Things do get a bit crazy though. There are often many woohs and cheers to celebrate the drinking. Especially when the fish bowls come out.

The people are nice, the drinks are amazing and karaoke night be so lit! I love the atmosphere is casual, no entry fee but id needed. P.S. beware of those stairs! Do take your time getting up and down.

This is for when you want that kind of dive-y feel. Get drunk on a punch bowl with your friends at a warm and humid bar. Crowded space to dance in the back, with a really odd crowd of students and men who seem far too old to be here.

Garbage service. Bouncers tried to take my "VALID" ID and I had to show my green card just to get my NC ID back. Disgusting. Will not be coming back without an explanation.

I wish I could give Kips a higher rating. The owner is a really nice guy. Their staff is really friendly especially if youre a regular and come in the daytime. It can be somewhat dark inside, and is located up a set of stairs, so its not wheelchair accessible. Their food is pretty good and their prices are decent. On some nights they have karaoke or team trivia. They have a small dance floor and they play music. Theyve recently opened up a downstairs section that has much more space but the two locations have no connecting access point.

If you want your bar to succeed try not playing two different songs in a 10 ft radius.Yours truly,A seasoned dj.

As a restaurant, its passable although not very exciting.As a bar, its badly maintained, crowded, and unappealing. Nothing about it stands out other than being easily accessible to college students.

Chill bar, typical college hangout spot. Owner are pretty cool. They give you a free birthday shot if you ask the barista and show id.

Kips bar is an OK spot for the beginning of the night. Youll definitely find a good mix of different people ranging from college students to working men and women from around the area. Wednesdays they have Karoke night, but my friends and I never ended up staying to wait for a turn.
