Modern eatery serving creative Korean, Chinese & Southeast Asian eats in a dark, red-accented space.
Dined there from Oz last week, everything great except the music was frequently too loud to enjoy the dining experience. Amateur mistake for an expensive classy venue.
I had only heard amazing things about this place. In terms of service and good it is incredible!! Setting is great and the flavours were amazing. My only gripe was the time it took between the entrees and the mains, we waited more than 50min and by that time didn’t feel as hungry. Super busy but others had been served and left before we got our mains despite ordering before them
Have always loved this menu and again it didn’t disappoint. Staff attentive, chosen vino and cocktail superb. Definitely will return.
It was out first visit to King of Snake and I now understand why its so hard to get a booking. Stunning food, gorgeous setting/atmosphere and service that most of NZ restaurants could learn from. Amber, our waitress, was knowledgeable, attentive and lovely. Even though the 2 hour sitting went too fast, been able to move through the the Monach bar is well thought out and just as lovely a setting. If I could Id give 10 stars.
Can’t put any star , unfortunately it won’t post if I don’t 😏Very disappointed ! Ordered 40$ crayfish dumpling ( came in lukewarm plus swimming in supposedly premium broth .. but overwhelmingly sweet .. unpalatable !! Then we had crispy eggplant … too sweet again 🥺! We put up w the lamb stir fry ( average 🙄)Staff are good though 👍Waitress even said that the broth of dumplings not usually consumed by many customers ( is it only for the dumplings to float on … really ????
Good service, very friendly staff!Food was "ok" but not really tasty or good for the price. We tried 4 dishes plus the truffle fries with barely you can feel the truffle if youre lucky. The blue cod was dry unfortunately. Beef tender Loin not tasty. Moong Dal was the only amazing dish. Beautiful place, expensive but for food, not coming back.
Great service from beginning to end. From my online booking through to paying the bill, we enjoyed a great fun lunch for 10 as we celebrated our sons 21st.My only gripe would be I wasnt told wed have to move off the table within any certain timeframe until the morning of our booking.Food was excellent, new venue looks (and feelsgreat! Overall, a great time thanks. Looking forward to our next visit.
Beautiful food 5⭐️but sadly service could have been better 1⭐️. This isn’t the place for you if you like to catch up with old friends and need time to chat, laugh and eat. They like to have quick turnover of tables so we were churned out the other end pretty quickly. When we booked, when we arrived and when they sat us down we weren’t warned of the 2 hour seating time so this came as a surprise when they started clearing our table and hurrying us along for mains whilst we were still enjoying the entrees. They did manage to seat us at the bar which we appreciated but then decided not to serve us/ ignore us. Yummy food though!
Fabulous 60th celebration. Our waitress, Amanda I think, went the extra distance to make sure the evening was fantastic. First class venue and food.Thank you :-)
Accidentally came here as all other restaurants were closed by the time I arrived in Christchurch at 8:40pm.Cool vibe and good service.I didnt realise they were Asian /Chinese fusion but they did it well without flavours that were too over powering.Kung pao chicken, short rib with pickled napa cabbage and calamari were all great.Reaaonably priced for food and venue.Best of all, they are open til late!
Great ambience and decor. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Cocktails were amazing! Food was superb! Flavours were amazing! Its pricey but worth it.
Great food selection on the menu. Cocktails and drink knowledge with suggestions from the staff made for a great dining experience. Food was great in everyway.Required a really early booking to get in. Very busy.
This was our first time dining at King of Snake and we were very impressed with all the food. We ordered 3 entrees and 3 mains to share for our group of 4 and we still took home about half a main in a doggy bag. Loved every dish. The decor was lovely - the only negative was the temperature was too hot which took away from our appetite. We would happily dine here again.
Everything was incredible. The decor, the service and the food were all just amazing! My favourite restaurant in Christchurch! I would definitely recommend!
Cocktail Heaven. The Monarch Bar is part of king of snake. I highly recommend the cocktails. Sammy the bartender is very passionate, creative and skilful. When you get there ask for his delicious creations and your tastebuds will be blown away.
First visit to your new premises didnt disappoint, loved the cocktail lounge pre diner. Food was yummy, favourite dish still on the menu from old site. Look forward to our next visit.
Absolutely delicious food and great atmosphere. Highly recommend the wontons (both flavours), the crispy squid & fried rice balls. Will definitely be back!
We dont dine out often so there is often a bit of pressure on the restaurant chooser. So glad we went to King of Snake! Food was delicious, service was excellent and a really beautiful space. Looking forward to coming back.
Extremely lovely place!!! Lots of great options on the menu. We asked for the waiters recommendation and ended up ordering the Chicken Rotis (small plate), the Kung Pao Chicken and Penang Beef Cheek Curry (large plates), which I would all recommend. Really friendly staff, beautiful environment, beautiful food with amazing proportions. Definitely come visit if you get the chance : [Ps, sorry for the low quality photos]
Very busy, definitely book first. Delicious food in a beautiful setting. All 4 of us were stoked wed picked here for dinner and were all kind of fussy in our own ways 😀
We had a wonderful experience, great staff. Apologies I didnt get our waiters name but it was hos 3ard shift. He was very professional and helpful. Lively food and definitely a place I will re-visit. Good allergy options as well. Lovely new place which is my first visit since moved.
Service was great, food was average. Worst rice I’ve eaten in my entire life. Very dry, hard and chewy. Small snacks were the best
The spinach leaves are delicious and the menu has lots of great stuff, be wary of few vegetarian options, but the vegeterian food we had was still great.
Best place in town. Great food, great staff, best decor and not packed in so can dine in comfort.
The food, service and atmosphere are all amazing! Highly recommend trying the Roasted Coconut Spinach Leaf, Crispy Eggplant, Chatham Island Blue Cod and Crispy Pressed Half Duck.
Friendly and professional staff, great atmosphere and food is outstanding. Will definitely be back.
A great variety of delicious meals, stunning entrees, paua fritters a must, followed by superb mains, the stunning duck curry. Followed by an indulgence of desserts. Truly worth a visit.
When you’re recommended a restaurant by three different locals you expect good things but King of Snake exceeded all expectations.Where do I start? The cocktails were amazing but the food was on another level. You simply must try the salmon, the scallops, the pulled been wontons and the dumplings, amazing! The staff were great and there was a really fun atmosphere in the restaurant, be sure to book in advance though as they are regularly at capacity.Next time I’m back in Christchurch I’ll be coming back.James AshwinKakapo Business Sales
Prawn dumpling in supreme broth and beef cheeks were such a delight. Quite frankly did not expect there’d be poached eggs on the beef cheeks but surprisingly suits.Smoked salmon was a wee bit dull, could have been better.Awesome staff.
Flavour were exquisite especially the prawn dumplings in supreme broth. Missus ordered the crispy pork belly as main, it was crispy and flavourful except there was a funky after taste on the belly that we found strange. I ordered beef cheeks which was terrific.Fantastic customer interaction, as it was our first time eating here. They are really knowledgable and informative about some changes on the menu that was really helpful.
Once again absolutely loved our whole experience at King Of Snake. The food never disappoints. Great atmosphere also and the staff were on point. If you are after Asian fusion food you cant look past this place.
Never disappoints and has been a favourite for many years. Just when you thought it couldnt get any better, a new location has done just that. By far the best spot on the Terrace. Just as good dining inside or out. The cocktail bar is a must before or after dinner as well. Well done King of Snake !
What a great restaurant, we werent sure what to order so went with the managers recommendations and drinks to match. It was one of the best meals we have ever had, amazing flavors and freshness coupled with such an amazing setting. Cant recommend enough!
Fancy place, really unique flavours on the menu and presented beautifully. The 13 spice lamb ribs and beef cheek curry in the pics were amazing!
Staff took about half an hour to take our orders - we had to go inside and remind them we were there despite there being several staff working and only about 5 other tables of customers. We were there for nibbles, but they told us we hadnt ordered enough food, so we had to order more (which included chicken rice balls that definitely didnt have any chicken in them). Ive never been told that I havent ordered enough food and wouldnt be welcome to eat there unless we ordered more. This was Sunday of the Easter weekend, so not a public holiday and when I asked if we still had to order more food if we werent drinking, she insisted we did. Really bizarre thing to make your staff say to grown adults - we know how hungry we are?? It was before 5pm, and the place was not busy at all, so we certainly werent taking up tables either. Not a pleasant experience, especially for the price. Do not recommend and will not be back.
Surprise dinner for my birthday. Amazing first ever experience. Staff were friendly and very helpful with holding my birthday cake 6 hours before we arrived… lovely setting and the food 🥲 orgasim in your mouth!! Every spoonful burst with exotic flavours and exquisite delicacy. Giving 5 star isn’t enough 🥰 I would definitely go there again. Highly recommended
Food was fantastic! I had the pork belly and my friend had the duck curry I believe. The pork was cooked so well and the flavours worked complimented the meat, the curry would just melt in your mouth it was delicious. Great staff, great food, great atmosphere.
We had a very early seating (5pm!!at KOS in their first week of opening at their new location on the terrace. It was pretty good! They were still working through some teething issues but overall our experience was really good! The staff looked after us well, and the food was delicious. Kinda felt like our booking didnt need to be so early, but in the end it didnt really matter. We asked to sit on the balcony and were allowed, so yay! What a great spot to watch the world go by. The balcony stretches all the way down to the neighboring bar which name eludes me. Anyway, this review is for King of Snake. And we really enjoyed our time there. I personally wished they still served the pork hocks. Just saying.
Lovely lunch here on the Monday of Waitangi weekend.Pros:- the tuna salad - so fresh and delicious- the truffle fries with the miso mayo- the salmon spinach leaf- the atmosphere- unfortunately we didn’t book so didn’t end up near the windows but the space was bright and comfortable.- the crayfish mini brioche- pricey and very much a treat but they were super yummyCons- the prawn dumplings were a bit disappointing- service was a bit slow. It seems like more servers appeared after 1pm which was good. My second wine took ages to come and I had to ask about it. Staff were friendly though. We will definitely go back, next time for dinner.
KOS has left the best impressions! The service we received was so amazing. Staff made us feel welcomed and gave us an amazing experience.Thank you Echlin for your wonderful customer service. Can’t wait to return and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to eat in.
I ate here with a friend. We walked in without a reservation, and despite being busy, the team quickly seated us on a high table. The food came out quickly, fresh and interesting, with interesting tastes.
We didnt have reservations but were offered a table in a nice bar area. The service was quick, professional and very helpful. We especially appreciated the description of the sizes of the dishes. Salmon was a great starter and the vegetarian curry was delicious.
Second time here, so good had to come back! The staff are excellent here and the food is very tasty. The mains are meant for sharing and it is a good experience. The mojitos they serve here are done well also.
Absolutely beautiful food & evening, we were a group of 11 & our waitress suggested the set menu, was well worth it, were able to taste test a variety of meals with incredible flavours from tuna salad to roast duck, pork crackling and many more. Will 100% be back. Staff were great as well & reasonable priced drinks too - also didnt need it but well worth it the creme brulee was top notch!
My go to spot for a meal in Chch when we visit.Always great service, interesting flavours, Asian fusion. Duck was a little rich and strongly flavoured, being used to peking duck and Chinese roast duck, as duck is rich already, the sweetness and flavour was a little overpowering. On the expensive side, but its a treat for date night. $290 for 2 of us.We had 8 oysters (2ways), duck, spinach salad, tuna salad and a lovely Amisfield rose wine.
King of Snake is one of the great place to have food in city centre of Christchurch. You will get a feel for life in the city. The atmosphere is vibrant and relaxed, with a mix of shared seating, tables and bar stools. The food is delicious and perfect for sharing with a group. Great place to spend time with your closed one. Stuff was good and helpful. The interior of restaurant was awesome. It feels good. Totally recommended..
Great food and nicely presented, I really enjoyed my meal. They offer great vegetarian options and desserts as well (which I found often an issue in Asian restaurants).
A fantastic venue for our family celebration. My egg and soy allergy catered for without issue The 9 of us enjoyed trying and sharing a variety of dishes (more than was photographed). Highly recommended.
Its really difficult for me to rate King of Snake. On one hand, the dish my sis ordered, prawn with rice noodle, is absolutely amazing and well done in every way. However, on the other hand, the tempura oyster is a bit off since two out six are small oysters in a big "fried shell" (the oyster covered with batter in a threadiness way), so it ends up tasting very greasy after bitting the oyster off because the rest of it are just fried batter. Also, the beef tenderloin I ordered is very disappointing. I dont think there are words other than SALTY could describe it. The nice lady waiting on our table said good choice when I pick this dish out the big menue, ironically I ended up drinking tons of water that night and regret about my decision. 🙃
We were recommended to come here from our Airbnb host. When we walked in it smelt amazing, my wife and I were very excited to finally eat. We were greeted right away and taken to our seats. Nice chill atmosphere. Our dinner was very delicious everything that our waitress recommended was very delicious. Very happy with our meals. The chili shrimp, veggie dumplings, rice balls and the tuna salad was so tasty and fresh. Only thing we regretted was not getting the fish of the day, we saw someone ordered it next to us and it looked sooo good. For dessert I order the chocolate lava cake, it wasn’t my favorite to be honest. My wife order the fried banana with banana ice cream and she enjoyed hers. Definitely a nice restaurant and I would deff come back again. :)
