No-nonsense counter-serve nook for fried chicken & seafood, along with homestyle sides.
If you know, you know. Over 50 years in business says it all.
Best fried chicken in town and always friendly people
Service was great. Love their chicken!
Their chicken tenders have the best breading and the chickenn is juicy and pull apart style. Diamond in the rough
Its a nice alternative to chain restaurant chicken but the taste of the chicken and mashed potatoes is mostly bland at worst and slightly seasoned at best. The sides are about a dollar more than what they should be and the chicken pieces are small which I assume is from their desire to use natural farm raised chicken but my biggest gripe is that for the same 3 piece and 1 side meal that comes out to $7.29 plus tax, I can get that from Lees Famous Chicken with the added bonus of 2 sides instead 1 for a dollar and change cheaper and in my opinion, much more flavorful. Otherwise youre paying extra for originality and fresher from scratch made food over premade, preserved meals at a better value, which isnt a bad trade off when its worth it. However, I cant omit the one saving grace of this restaurant but at the same time, I wont say what it is. What I can say is for the best bang for your buck (though not guaranteed), arrive 30 minutes before closing.Update: current St. Charles resident and I must say the chicken has grown on me. I honestly read my previous review and found it difficult to relate but I know I said itnfor a reason so I am leaving it as is. I will, however, give them a better rating. The chicken is pretty good and my family likes it a lot. Pieces are still small, prices are still high, saving grace is still gracefully saving but the flavor has grown on me.
King Edwards was the bomb! The crust was light. The fries were hot and crispy and the slaw was out of this world! Well done folks. We will be back.
Good fried chicken I like the red beans and rice option for the side
Brought my 97 yr. old friend. (Shes a great cook. She LOVED the chicken and especially the slaw. Her remark..."you can judge a place by their slaw. This is excellent!"
Has a wide variety of fried foods but their chicken is the best!
Despite the ridiculously small pieces that are not much bigger than a chicken nugget, the taste is the best. Pictured is what counts as a full size piece of chicken breast (and no my hands are not that big)
No pictures because we were too excited to devour. Fried green beans were EVERYTHING. Owner was so kind to our party!
King Edwards fried chicken is the BestI cross the St. Charles bridge weekly for that chicken !!!
I ordered a 6 piece mix. I got 4 thighs one leg and one wing. Chicken was very bland and had almost a burnt oil or been sitting around and refried to heat up taste to it. Seemed more like a get this guy out of here vide then anything. Also so staff arguing. Definitely not worth the money i spent.
Always a treat eating at King Edwards Fried Chicken. Excellent service and great tasting crispy chicken and fries. Their lobby is open for sit down if your on your lunch break or just want to sit down and enjoy your food. Definitely worth checking out.
Superior fried chicken and baked beans. Unfortunately out of red rice and beans.
Awesome fried chicken and sides! Hole in the wall but the taste and food is amazing!
Food came out fresh and hot!! Definitely a fan of beer battered chicken 😋😋😋
Got the 16 piece and my white chicken was super over cooked😒😳😣 cooked..but it was still good the dark meat
Tried King Edwards for the first time last week. There were only 2 young adults working. The young man at the front register was so sweet! The place was packed with people waiting for their orders. The young woman working the fryers seemed exhausted but never slowed down! They were getting orders out left and right! The food was amazing! I will be ordering from here again.
The BEST chx in the STLBest fries in earth! Great service. Always has been!
Anytime my family is out in St Charles we make our way to King Edwards. The pieces and tenders are amazing! It’s a small establishment, but the food is well worth it. My 5 year old “two thumbs up, 10 out of 10, this is the best!”
Great food. We visit when we can.Update: used to love going as a treat. But last couple times, the chicken was super dry and service was not friendly...even when I pre-tipped. Note that I think this was a rare blip. Other times the food was delicious and service super friendly.Update: Sadly, it was terrible again. Chicken was again super dry and fries were over cooked.I think they are just leaving precooked food sitting for the day from much earlier.Update2: Rolled the dice and tried again. Made the mistake was after lunch rush. So, chicken dry. Likely bulk cook, and sits until used up. So, dry, over heat lamp.Update3: I’ve been going here for a couple decades. I love it when it’s good. But, I learned another lesson. Don’t go when they first open. They are serving reheated leftovers…dry and day old. Don’t go at End of day. I guess just middle of day when they have to make fresh and have run out of old, and not make too much and leave under heating lamp all day. So, I guess mid lunch rush? Or just as rush is reducing some? Some of the employees are awesome! But, some not so much.
Tonight I ordered fried gizzards and they were so tough I had to throw them away.Werent breaded and tasted like they had been cooked earlier and reheated in the fryer. First and last time Ill order from there.
Best fried chicken in Saint Charles, Missouri is King Edward’s Chicken!
The food is good but the customer service is horrible. Trying to place an order by phone and the phone line is busy. The wait time is ridiculous when you don’t call ahead.
Some of best fried and seasoned chicken you will find in the Saint Charles area. I would say probably even in Saint Louis. The fries were hot and crispy.
Has always been my favorite. Was very very busy tonight for pickup. The cooks and servers were faster than Jimmy Johns.
I have quite a few things to say about this place: I had to edit my post because theres more to add.I would not have said anything if it werent for the fact that this is a consistang issue with this location... i have never seen the place clean. This place is absolutely disgusting! Old grease, flower covering the floor, batter caked onto the counters and everywhere. The wells were caked with dried out old crusted on food. The mac and cheese was disgusting looking. The fridge where the sauces are kept looks like they have not cleaned it since the store opened. The place reeks of old stale grease like they dont filter their fryers. The people taking my order are usually pretty rude and not very friendly. The chicken is subpar. Very greasy...yes i get that its fried chicken and its to be expected to a degree. But i can go to other chicken places and its never quite as bad. This most recent time, i tried to call for over an hour and the phone was busy. I eventually gave up. I dont want to make accusations, but i dont see how someone placing an order takes THAT long. Then today i finally managed to get through to someone and they were giving me very choppy short answers... and then before i was done ordering she said "that will be a 10 minute wait" click and she hung up... no conversation, no, have a good day just hung up.She said our food would be ready in 10 minutes... we arrived 20 minutes later and had to wait an additional 10 minutes on top of the 20 minutes we had to wait.I saw the same rude woman who took my order hang up on anogher customer right in front of me.I would like to tell you her name, but noone has nametags.Absolutely one of the worst food places in St. Charles... 2 stars was WAAAY too generous. This should be a 0 star average.Generally an unpleasant experience all around.
This place is great! Id had a taste for chicken livers for ages, and couldnt find anywhere around here that serves them. I just picked up a couple of orders and they are delicious. Incredibly tender and creamy. Ill definitely be back for more. My only complaint is that they were almost gone by the time I got home!
I havent eaten here in a long time.. They do not disappoint..
The customer service was very poor from the young lady who took my order over the phone as well as when I entered into the building. Food ok. This was my 1st time at the St. Charles location and I think it will be my last. I enjoy the great customer service I get when I go to the location on Watson road. Besides they offer better sit in accommodations and I can order a dessert.
King Edwards is THE KING of soul food! I love everything, literally everything. The greens, the fish and, of course, the CHICKEN! Every bit of the menu is absolutely amazing and if the prices turn you off, then stick to good ol home cookin. If you want that same feeling, taste, goodness, without the slaving over a hot stove, GO TO KING EDWARDS!!!
I love, love, love this place. Every time we go to St Louis we have to stop in. From 11 to 3 they have a lunch special and it is the BEST way to go. But anytime is good time for their chicken
Spoke did not like the green beans, or the breading on the chicken. She was supposed to have gotten 2 breast and ended up with 2 thighs. The chicken livers were good.
Been going here for years, always have great food. I think some of the staff that has changed most recently arent as friendly, could be better. Also, if you dont remember to ask for condiments or utensils, you wont get them. They really should ask you when handing you your order so that you could get them, if you forgot to ask!
I love this place. The owners and staff are very nice and friendly. The chicken and fish are wonderful. The flavor of the chicken is great. They are very quick to get your order. You can also call ahead.
Sad to say the food was not good. We had hoped it would be. We watched them take food out of the fryer and straight into the boxes. No draining. So of course way too much grease on the chicken and fish. The shrimp was actually under cooked some. And a ton of salt. But that could come from the fryer too. The hush puppies were dry. The Mac n cheese was just a lot of cheddar. Basically we want to try again and see but bad first attempt
I typically visit the Watson Rd.location. The food is good, the service is good, the place is clean. My experiences have always been good. Well, I visited the St.Charles location, today. The place is filthy! The fryer station is scary,, for many reasons: there layers of chicken batter on the counter station, it’s not wiped down often. The chicken and fries are fried and, retried. One basket of fries was dunked in grease three times, as a form of reheating- the food. The food is extremely greasy as a result of. The young lady cooking fries mixed frozen fries with recooked fries. The employees were not wearing clean clothes. The young lady took orders and, accepted payments. She went to the FILTHY FRYER and, began filling boxes with greasy and, chicken. She NEVER WASHED HER HANDS NOR WAS SHE WEARING A MASK! This is so different from the Watson Rd. location. I would not recommend anyone visit this place.
There are many places in St. Louis to get chicken from but Ive gotta tell you - nothing gives the warm fuzzy, buttery crunch of the chicken we get every single time from King Edwards. Their chicken stripes are a regular go to for carry out thst my family and I enjoy and have for over a decade. Hot and crispy French fries and Mac n cheese thst hits the spot make a well rounded picture that crafts more family time we treasure for a lifetime. Add on the benefit of being able to cook up a set of crispy chicken burritos the next day with the leftover fries we rebaked and the chicken we sliced - just doesnt get better. Thanks, King Edwards!
I had this chicken several times and it was delish, my only issue is that it is so far. I live in N. St. Louis, Co and wish they would put one here. N. CO has no chicken places near 270 and Bellefontaine sinelce KFC closed about 5 years ago. This chicken reminds me if "Chicken King" that use to be onN Broadway and Riverview, OMG a must try!
Chicken is amazing. Dont plan on eating in, there is only 5 tables. It is a very busy place. I didnt care for the Cole slaw, mac and cheese, and rolls. The mash potatoes and gravy was good. But its the chicken that wins it all. Staff are nice (busyand could be alittle friendlier.
This isnt the fanciest restaurant but they have a much bigger selection of items than I expected. The chicken strips, mashed potatoes, green beans were great & the strips are larger than I expected. The service wasnt that great but someone else waited on the people after me & she was much better. I look forward to going back there again soon and trying more of their selections.
This is an excellent place to eat if youre trying to die soon. I actually cant quite understand how they get so much grease into a single piece of chicken. I mean, its impressive. You can literally feel the life force draining from you with each bite. I had a side of mac n cheese, which was an odd glob of congealed mess stuffed into a small white container. It tasted like cardboard. The only thing weve tried that doesnt taste like extreme grease or garlic are the fries. Yuck.
The BEST chicken in Saint Charles and Saint Louis County! Their staff is always friendly and expedient. They have Hot Wings now too!
So so good! Great food...incredible value, huge portions. Eat in or take out. Big meaty moist chicken. We had chicken, gizzards and cauliflower......delicious!!!! Absolute must try!
I am always pleased with my experiences with King Edwards chicken. Their fried chicken has the perfect amount of breading, cooked to a wonderful golden brown. I usually prefer coleslaw from a specific chicken restaurant and never thought I could be swayed... but was one-over by their tasty side dish! Hands down the best chicken in St Charles County!
Honestly I wasnt impressed with the Chicken, which is a shame. It looks great, but it was kind of bland. I had two sides which were great: green beans and okra. The green beans might have been the best I ever had. Okra was pretty standard. Anyway, this is an overall good fast food chicken place. Nothing special, and I wouldnt go out of my way for it. However, I do have to give it credit for being a solid, quality local place... that makes me want to visit it again.
This was the first time that I ate there. All I can say is I know understand why they have been in the same location since the mid sixties. There chicken was awesome. The sides were really great. Will go back very soon.
Delicious food and great staff! I tried a few things and was impressed with all of them. The chicken is out of this world, the frog legs are unique and equally as amazing, and I tried the clam strips which were delicious. Everything is batter fried, so expect that if you have not been there before. They even offered us some of their most popular sides to try so we knew what we wanted. Definite must go in St. Charles.
One of the greatest places for fried chicken that Ive ever had. Not that I want to get your hopes up for this establishment but they truly have some great tasting fried chicken. They offer family dinners like any other place and the prices are pretty reasonable. if you have a large order you may want to call ahead because it does get busy some evenings and on weekends for sure. They have a small eat in area but are bigger for take out for you to enjoy at home. If you are tired of the chains or the grocery store chickens give the king a try and you will find a hidden gem in St Charles.
