More suited to families wanting a larger area for games perhaps. The river is nice enough, though when we went, the access was awkward since a 4WD had chewed up the road. Make a good dog walk though.

Would have been 5 star if the mens toilets werent flooded, hard to complain when its free though. From what I could gather, a permit isnt really required if youre just staying overnight, the warden is apparently really nice and take some details of you dont have one.

Great spot,huge grassed open field adjacent to the river. We had a refreshing late evening soap free swim to replace our shower. Absolutely poured rain most of the night, ground got quite saturated. Good toilet facilities and easy to find on Google maps and a short distance along a bitumen road from the highway turn off. Situated approximately 1.5 hrs north from Wellington. Highly recommend people stay here. Remember: you will need a camp permit

The reserve badly needs a serious cleanup , BOTH walking tracks need cutting back and lawns need mowing to restore the reserve to its usual beauty !!

This is a beautiful reserve slightly out back of Levin. Beautiful maintained. If I was to have one gripe it be that the toilet always seem to be locked. Ok I get that these places get vandalism but if you make the effort to go. Toilet should be open. Hey there dog walking facility area awesome.

Lovely spot. Nice and quiet. Even over a public holiday. Heaps of camping space in different parts of the reserve. Has cellphone reception (Vodafonebut not good Internet. Has a river and nice bush walks. Has mens and womens toilets and running water (not drinkable unless boiled). Recommended
