Kim's Korean BBQ House - Korean barbecue restaurant in Nanaimo, Canada
Very delicious meal! Easily the best since Ive moved to Nanaimo. I had the spicy BBQ pork belly. It definitely tasted like it was really cooked on a charcoal grill. They give you plenty of little things for appetizers like bean sprouts, kimchee and potato salad served in little balls. The restaurant is in a converted house and as such is a little tight but it makes for excellent ambience. I dont know if they use that fireplace in winter but I imagine it would make for a great date night. Its an easy recommend from me :).
My favourite place in Nanaimo for Bulgogi! So delicious!
Good food, but tofu soup barely has broth in it. (no side dishes when you order pick up)
This is a super friendly place with an extensive menu. The food is very fresh and flavourful - and served in abundance.
Great service, delicious food and super clean.
Great tasting food, friendly helpful staff and a clean nicely decorated place. To top it off, good value in today’s inflationary world.
The best Korean BBQ in town! I always go for the spicy pork bulgogi.
Worst service ever! We made an appointment for Sat dinner, knowing it might be busy time. We walked in around 5:50, waited till 6:30, nothing on our table except water. No communication no side dishes, I asked twice and the server said she can bring out side dishes….isn’t that a custom that you get side dishes at Korean restaurant when you are seated? Probably not here in Nanaimo. One thing really frustrates us is that no single apology from server, I know they are super busy, but apparently, not enough cooks in the kitchen, it is the management’s fault. They should controls the volume if they can make it happen. We left in the end without waiting for the food.
Food is very good!!! seafood pancake is my favorite in the restaurant
Food was good, but food took like 2 hours to come.
We just returned from Kims Korean BBQ House, and it was one of the best Korean food experiences Ive ever had! The food was great, and even though they were very busy, they were friendly and accommodating. We had beef bulgogi, steamed kimchi dumplings, chicken teriyaki, kimchi soup with tofu and don katsu pork. All were cooked to perfection. Prices are reasonable, and the portions good. Its a small place (usually the best kind : ), so Id recommend reservations. Five-stars plus!
Amazing Korean food! We tried everything, it was all great, the seafood pancake is way better than expected!
Food was okay. Definitely had way better food and portion elsewhere. The portion was extremely small for the price they charge you. Definitely not recommended for someone who has had authentic Korean food.
The food was okay, though the portions were disappointing, small for what you paid. The staff were friendly and the location was neat, felt like eating in someones home.
My husband and I were pleased with this restaurant. We came for lunch and we ordered the seafood pancake (highly recommend), fried Mandu (dumplingsand ox bone soup. They offered us 3 side dishes and a bowl of steamed rice, with the kimchi radish being memorable. The portions are a little bit small, but the taste is excellent and homemade. I wish the dumplings had a little bit more filling, however. The ox bone soup is plain tasting, but very warming and good to sip on a cold rainy day. Its also very healthy and rich in collagen. I wouldnt order this again however. We were hoping to return for dinner to try their bbq before we left Nanaimo, but we ran out of time. We will return. Their food is delicious. Prices are a bit expensive, but worth it for a treat.
I really enjoyed the seafood pancake and spicy tofu hot pot from here! They were pretty good! I will definitely visit this place again!
If you want spicy Korean food, this is your place, good food. Fast service and wednesday has special table cooking
The meals were delicious. We will definitely become regulars here. Our server, Lin was amazing and she deserves credit for how well she was hustling all night in order to ensure all the tables were attended to.
This place has amazing food and great service! This was our first time here and is definitely a new favorite. Our server Lin was a Rockstar. It was very busy and she was bouncing from table to table without missing a beat and still packaging to go orders and opening the door for customers with their hands full. Cant wait to visit again.
First thing I noticed when I walked up was the fantastic smell in the air. The place was full with happy diners so we were off to a good start. The service was friendly and accommodating. My friend and I went with the bulgogi beef and it was wonderful. The prices are fair and I wont hesitate to return with my next Korean BBQ craving. I highly recommend this place.
Fresh and delicious food! I wanted to visit again the next day but they’re closed on Sundays. Food was so good, and didn’t disappoint. Highly recommended if you’re in Nanaimo.
Food overall are good but it is too expensive with amount of food for each dish. I thought we were eating in a high-end restaurant.
I am native Korean and these foods in here is literally Korean food taste. I guarantee you wont regret these foods. You wanna try korean food? Go here
I enjoyed a Saturday lunch at Kim’s. The food was good (DdukBaegi BulGoGi + side dishesand the service was great. I’ll go back.
Very tasty food that reminds me of my school exchange in South Korea.I took the veg japchae: I clearly had enough to eat as quite a big eater.Service is efficient and friendly.Prices are fare.I recommend it very much !
Pretty good all around
Really great hotpot and galbi. Very tasty, with polite and efficient service. It feels more like having an authentic meal at a friends house than a restaurant experience... But thats not a bad thing at all!
Best food in Nanaimo. Truly amazing and authentic. Great value and I always leave super full. Kim’s BBQ is the same quality as some of the best korean restaurants in Vancouver.
I used to really like this place. I think this is the last time i will be here however. I ordered a seafood hot pot that was supposed to come with shrimp, scallops and squid. There was very little seafood in the pot, the shrimp were not as pictured, they were instead, pop corn shrimp which one can get for 5 bucks a whole bag. I could not find a single scallop in the pot. The squid was tiny but passable and the whole dish tasted pretty strongly of burnt onions. It was nicely presented and great service however. They just changed the menu, and not for the better it seems. So, while i used to be quite satisfied with the dish i used to get before they changed the menu for $12.95, which was a very good deal and also a very healthy lunch, im greatly disappointed with the seafood hot pot for $16. This restaurant just suddenly went from great to so so, barely passable. What are they skimping on the ingredients? Do they think that people will not notice? Its a crazy business model; they just lost a repeat customer and someone who loves Korean food. Fool me once, thats all you get.
Always heard great things about it. Have never had Korean BBQ before, if this is what its like, I will definitely be having it more. Service was great, good was great.
Owner is very friendly , sincere and sense of humor. The best Korean food that I ever had in Nanaimo. Great location near Ferry terminal. I love to re-visit.
Excellent and very authentic food. Surprising to find on the Island. Good service as well. Had the beef and chicken off the BBQ menu, very tasty with all the sides. One special note, the cleanest washrooms of any restaurant we have ever been too. Good Covid sanitation as well.
Was looking for a good Korean restaurant in the area. Meal and service was great.Recommend the ox tail soup on a rainy day.
Ordered the kalbi (short ribsand spicy pork bulgogi.. it was delicious! Fast service and good prices. A great gem for an easy lunch or dinner. Very pleasantly surprised by such yummy Korean food in Nanaimo! Very much recommend.
The foods are just fine. Friendly staffs.
The best korean restaurant in town. Very good food! Authentic and flavorful, but I feel it was a little over priced. If you have no better place to go, this one can serve you with best Korean style meal.
Big fan of Kims. The food is fantastic. Always comes out at the perfect temperature. The table service is awesome, servers know when to stop by and when to leave you be. On top of that, the renovated house style restaurant provides a comfortable atmosphere that you just dont find to often. Highly recommend stopping for lunch or dinner at Kims.
Ordered $86 dollars worth of food to treat my friends and received less than $40 dollars worth in terms of quantity and quality. As a Korean, the food is not representative of what is "authentic" Korean food, and frankly it is disappointing and insulting. Next time I will just cook myself the food and save myself $60 in ingredients.
Definitely my favourite food here! Friendly staffs!! Everything was wonderful!!!
Dont let the exterior of this restaurant trick you. We went in not expecting much, but the food was great, the staff was friendly, and it was super clean. The prices were reasonable, too. Last, they accommodated our kids nicely. Everything you can want in a restaurant!
This place is so so good! The soft tofu soup was delicious and spicy and the perfect thing to eat on a cold November evening. Also tried the chicken bulgogi which wasn’t bad. Some pieces were a little gummy, but overall, great flavour!
Still the favorite Korean Food place even after moving to Vancouver.I always recommend this as my go-to for authentic, flavorful Korean Cuisine. The wait time can get pretty high in the evening but the kitchen is efficient and the service is pleasant. Stop reading this review and go enjoy the food!P.S. make sure this place is open and check their hours of operation.
We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. There is free parking behind the building and the service is friendly. They are happy to explain the menu and make recommendations. We ordered 3 dishes. Each was unique and delicious. It was too much for us to finish so they happily provided a to-go box for our leftovers. Prices were about what you would expect. Well be back.
Delicious food, friendly service and nice atmosphere.
Nom nom nom.....very nice staff, helped us understand the menu and helped show us the proper way to eat the food.
The place was so small and cute and the food was amazing!!! The service was wonderful as well. Everyone needs to go to this place!
I was able to leave full,I thought the (banchanside dishes were lacking.
The food is really good. I wish there was a Korean beef steak but the plates we had were delicious.Portions were ok to me but my husband said they were small. Quality of food though was really good.Service was excellent. Either we were hungry or food took a long time. We had or toddler us but there wasn’t a high chair.Prices are average. There is plenty of parking at the back of the restaurant. Very convenient.
Comfortable dining area, free parking in the back and will accept reservations. Took awhile for good to arrive but was very yummy. Waitress seemed inexperienced and awkward but brought stuff quickly after she was asked for anything.
Awesome food, better than the Korean restaurants in Vancouver, and great atmosphere.
