Kilconnell Franciscan Friary - Historical landmark in Ros Comain, Ireland
Beautiful abbey I really wish it was more known. Beautiful historic location highly recommended a visit ....park in the village walk to the gate and there is a stepping stone beside the gate entry its not obvious but it is owned by Irish people and has public right of way so go enjoy it the more people visit the more funding these places receive
5 stars because I enjoy self-guided history and grounds. Theres only one small sign that explains the history of these ruins. If you need more info, I suggest doing it yourself prior to visiting. It is very quiet and reverent. The inside of the friary is now used as a cemetery... New stones (as new as 2021can be found here. Its a great piece of Irish history. My biggest suggestion, if anyone is monitoring this page, is to mark the entrance better. It sort of looks like youre going into someones private pasture.Otherwise, a great short visit - probably 30 minutes max for history, more of youre visiting a family stone.

History and scenery and what a lusciously amazing country
Beautiful architecture, ancient headstones and history here and is very well looked after.
Sehr schöner Ort, auch im Regen einen Besuch wert.
S beautiful abbey well worth a visit because its do well preserved.
Powerful place and so quiet, nobody else was here, well, nobody alive was here...
History seething from the ground. If youre a O Mainnin you have to go.
Labyrinthine abbey, not invaded by any trace of recent history more than an explanatory sign outside and a map inside, and the recent tombs that just makes everything more beautiful, knowing that loved people from town and surroundings are still buried in there. I hope nothing ever changes in this place.
County Galway is littered with such hidden historical gems and this one dates from the mid 1400s and probably sits on the site of an earlier monastery founded by St Conall in the 6th century. The original stone carvings are astounding and the entire structure is enveloped in a canopy of peace and tranquillity.
