Honestly it wasnt a great experience. Each thing alone and youd maybe shrug it off but all together it was very dissapointing.With the other restaurants on the island I wouldnt bother going here.Ordered a bottle of Shiraz, they tried to deliver us 4 glasses of wine, when we reminded them wed ordered the bottle they went behind the bar for a full FOH staff meeting and the manager was sent out to tell us they didnt have that wine, just the dirt cheap Jacobs creek. Ok were happy to have that, please can we have a bottle of wine. After another full staff meeting behind the bar and some suss pouring they come out with the original 4 glasses and a bit of a bottle of Jacobs creek. Felt a bit like we were being scammed.Add to this, one of us ordered the steak for a treat, ordered it rare and got a rump cooked medium well.Finally, there was an obviously unwell server (covid times), a missed meal, ok food across the board and some very slow receipt creation.

We had such a delicious meal here and loved the relaxed welcoming setting of the restaurant and very friendly service. We had the rib-eye steak with peppercorn sauce and yellow fin tuna followed by two desserts. We ate at a lot of other restaurants on the island and reckon Kikau Hut was def the best food! Loved it!

(2.5 stars)Kikau Hut is a well-intentioned restaurant aimed at budget travellers. On a rainy night with the shutters closed, the over-lit concrete slab dining room gives you a stark view of some b-grade murals. However in centre of the room, hanging from a leaf-wrapped ring of poles, a clever series by Fatu tells a dark story of colonisation (these beg to be velvet paintings).Arriving quite quickly, our shared Kikau chowder (NZ$14was a creamy soup containing small and large mussels, a big prawn in the shell, smaller peeled prawns, small roe-on scallops and various fishes. It had considerable citrus tang, and a wedge of garlic bread for dipping. It’s not bad for fewer than fifteen bucks.More than forty minutes later in a half-full space, the seafood platter (NZ$35delivered a small portion of many of the entrees—ika mata, Mata’s scallops—plus shrimp and pawpaw salad, grilled broadbill, crumbed calamari, prawn skewers, chips and salad. It eats better than the Rarotonga-style fish (NZ$26)—also broadbill—that tasted super fishy with a dull, grey bloodline. It was pan-fried with salad and grilled banana under a so-so fruit salsa that needed the sharpness of lime. Both plates were ringed by garish red and green dribbles that probably should have ended with the Nineties.

Great place! There were 10 of us for dinner, we had a blast, food was great, the curry fish was spectacular!! The kids enjoyed their food as well. Thanks Kikau Hut for a fantastic night

First class food, very pleasant setting, great staff.She had the seafood platter, I had the beef Gulai.Both were delicious!Washed down with a couple of Cooks and a diet Coke.Home by 8! 😎

Great service and big portions of great food.

We made a booking based on a random recommendation from a stranger and MAN, I’m glad we did! What a simple, charming, and cool little spot! It was absolutely pumping the night we booked---seemed like the whole island decided to come in! The staff was extremely friendly, helpful, and full of smiles. We had what had to be the happiest female server on the island-----she was all smiles all night. They were understaffed, but we never once felt forgotten or neglected at our table----it was a fantastic night and amazing fresh fish (parrotfish on the night we wentto top it off. This will be one of the 1st places I book next time we’re in Raro…if not only for the food, but definitely for the friendly staff.

Ambiance is excellent. Ordered a seafood platter. Lots of variety but the oysters, mussels and scallops were rubbery and old. Obviously frozen and overcooked. The fish was dry and nor did they have any tartee sauce to go with the meal. Also found one (only oneof the waiters "sticky".They also tried to charge me for somebody elses drinks. Hmmmm.

As an entrée, we had the scallops in a rukau-curry sauce topped with cheese with garlic bread to sop up the sauce. One main was the chicken wrapped in bacon and stuffed with feta and rukau, topped with a sweet fruit salsa and with a jus. The portion of chicken was huge! The other main was the grilled fish with grilled banana. We really enjoyed the balancing of sweet, salty and savoury flavors, and the local accents such as rukau and the grilled banana.

Was a fantastic evening. My husband wanted the seafood chowder entrée and I liked the look of the seafood platter main accompanied with the potato mash and spinach so we shared and asked for both to arrive together and added the crisp garlic bread to round out the meals. Yellow fin tuna was cooked pink to perfection. Scallops and prawns amazing. Ika mata was melt in your mouth. Shared a dessert. 3 red wines washed it all down. For under $100 was the best Rarotonga has to offer.

Outstanding. Weve eaten at a bunch of places in our time here and Kikau Hutt is by far our favourite. The food is absolutely delicious. The dining room is well laid out and relaxed feel. We had some great conversations with the woman serving us in between the dishes and ingredients being described. Highly recommend. Were eating here every evening for the rest of our holiday.

My partner and I walk to be greeted with a warm welcome and seated straight away.We had the Mahi Mahi / pork spare ribs both were cooked to perfection.💨 wait time 15mins after ordering service in between our meal 🥘 was lovely 😊 desert was apple crumble delicious side of fruit/cream.Well priced.Be sure to book 📖

I liked this place but my gf who is vegetarian didn’t. The seafood platter was 36$ and good quality and quantity. My gf salad was not that good though. Nice service and atmosphere.

We, a family of five, recently stayed six nights in Rarotonga. We spent two evenings wining and dining at Kikau Hut as it was recommended prior + we had the most delicous food and great service including free transfers from our resort! Loved the decor and atmosphere too! A special place and a highlight of our holiday!! We will be back again, hopefully next year!! Highly recommend!!

Very pleasant venue with a choice of outside and inside dining. Staff excellent and attentive and kept up with the meals and drinks. Meals were very good and reasonably priced. A great local eatery. Good live music with Tani and Rose kept the atmosphere a pleasant dining experience..Well done and "will be back"!!!

Very tasty food, reasonably priced, and amazing friendly funny staff and service! In my opinion one of the best restaurants on the island. I will definitely be back, highly recommend!

Having just returned from our third visit to the Cook Island we have visited Kikau Hut at least once on each visit and this time we visited on three occasions. The food, service and entertainment were exceptional.On our first visit I ordered the entree of seared scallops and my husband ordered the chicken dish. The food is very fresh and expertly cooked. The desserts are also very good. On this occasion, my husband had the banana and chocolate bread and butter pudding and I had the banana and chocolate wontons. They were so good that we ordered them again on our third visit.The second visit, which was the following evening, I had the chicken curry and my husband had the rib eye steak with peppercorn sauce. Both meals were of a very high standard. On this occasion they had a female soloist, playing guitar and singing who was extremely talented and added to the ambience.Our final visit was on our second last evening before coming home. It was a Monday evening and we caught the bus as we were staying at Muri Beach. It was quite busy due to the fabulous entertainment of Dani and Rose, who are very popular. I ordered the pork ribs and my husband ordered the chicken dish again.On all occasions we found the food, service and ambience excellent. We did recommend to a number of other visitors whilst we were there.We hope it doesnt change and will definitely be back.

One of my preferred restaurants on Rarotonga. Prices are reasonable for good value, delicious food. Nice ambience without being stuffy, good for families, groups and couples. The seafood platter is great value and is sufficient for 2 people plus entrees/dessert, and the dessert tasting plate is a great way to finish. Off street parking right in front. If they only had a view of the beach!

My wife and I ate here on our last night on Rarotonga. The restaurant offers free transport from/to nearby lodgings. The food is excellent! We had the scallop/squid entree, which was delectable. The fried fish is very good too. Nice place.

Fit us in despite being busy. Food was amazing. I had the seafood platter my friend had the fish. Then as we left it started to rain, the staff chased us out the door and offered us a ride home. Service was above and beyond. Cheers guys.

Had a really great meal the other night here. Had seafood platter and the ribs and they were awesome. The food came out real quick despite having a full house and the food was real good too. Next time I gotta try out the steak. Little bit pricey and the drink size was a little small. Other than that 4/5*

Absolute best 3 course meal we have ever had. Amazing friendly fast service. Going back tonight. Cant get enough of that beautiful food. A must to visit when in Raro.

Ok restaurant but meals are too small. I went there 2 times. First time was ok but, prices are too high for the food they offer. I payed over 30$ and I wasnt even full afterwards. Service was good the first time but not the second.My complaint was ignored. Would not come here again. They have a special of the day.

It is an open air restaurant and best to go when there is a nice evening breeze and cooler temps. We tried the Swordfish fish of the day special and the fish and chips. Both were incredibly fresh fish and Delish. Desserts were even better. The fried wontons and passion fruit cheesecake were AMAZING!

Very friendly staff. Great guitarist/singer playing whilst we ate. Food was very nice. Loved the open walled setting. Indoor eating with an outdoor feel. The staff overheard my little daughter mention it was my wife’s birthday and they put a candle on her desert cake and had the singer perform happy birthday! Was a really special touch!!!

Swordfish was uncharacteristically strong in both smell and flavour, ? How fresh the fish was . The side dish of potatoes was disappointingly bland. Great music to listen to though!

We had dinner with friends for our last night in the Cook Islands. Meal was great, staff excellent, entertainment really superb and ambience fantastic. And we got a courtesy ride home to boot. Highly recommend.

Our experience started the day before we dined at Kikau Hut. The owners showed their qualities by kindly giving my wife and I a lift from the Raratonga to Edge Water where we were staying. This unsolicited kindness we re-payed by us, having a most divine meal the following night at the Kikau Hut. Service was great, atmosphere friendly and the food, just marvelous.
