Khao Soi Khun Yai - Thai restaurant in Chiang Mai, Thailand
It was our very first time trying Khao Soi so I really can’t compare it to to her places. I just have to say that it was very delish! The noodles, the broth and the meat, all of it were very flavourful. My parents said the portions was a bit small for them but it was just the right amount for me.
Please, please, please stop here when you’re in Chiang Mai - absolutely the best. The Khao Soi is yummy and the company/environment is awesome.
The Khao Soi was absolutely delicious. When you arrive, you go to the counter and write down your order on a little piece of paper. Then you are assigned a table to sit on. This place is an absolute must!
This is an excellent place to eat at. The food is really good and flavors bursting. Make sure you go before 1pm otherwise you risk them running selling out or closing early. If the beef khao Soi is offered, get it because its rare that you find a good spot selling it. Pork and chicken are typical. When finished, theres normally an ice cream stand selling coconut ice cream which is really good.
This is a special bowl of Khao Soi at local prices, had the beef, Neau, it was tender and melted in the mouth. Broth was nicely spiced and very well balanced.
We were there the first time at 1.30pm just to try out luck and they were all sold out, so we went again another time and managed to try the Khao soi. So glad we didn’t give up because it turned out to be the best Khao soi we’ve ever had.You will probably need to wait for a table and also for your food after you’re seated but it’s worth it 👍🏻
Famous for a reason, this khao soi was quite delectable.I went for the beef, and the tender hunks of meat were the perfect accompaniment to the more spicy than sweet, rich, coconut-ty, khao soi broth. The “icing on the cake” was the crispy noodle garnish. Uniquely thin, the broth barely penetrated and they remained crispy until the bottom of the bowl.Totally killer, I’ll be back for their other menu offerings.
This place is just beside a shrine. Quite crowded during lunch hour with estimate waiting time 20 mins. You will need squeeze and share table. Mainly tourists made up the crowd. Is it worth the long queue and extra mile to hunt down this place?Price wise is super affordable. A bowl of curry noodle cost only 50B, clear soup noodle 40B. Quantity wise is too little. Taste wise is good. So yes, is worth the distance and queue. Advice ask for bigger serving or double your order.
Khai Soi was great, beef was very tender. high recommend to come!It was 60Bhat per bowl of Khai Soi. Do note that portion might be considered slightly on the smaller side
We came here after some research on the internet, and we were not disappointed! We arrived pretty early ( around 12 pm and the place was already packed but we were shown a table to wait. The place is more like a street food vendor with quite a few tables and chairs and they have 2 options to choose from. Food is really nice, you really have to watch out for this place on Google Maps, and come early because after a while they just put a sign mentioning that they are sold out because of their success and the great food they serve!
I arrived around 1:15pm on a Friday looking for some Khao soi. Super friendly ladies behind the counter informed me they were out of beef and chicken, but still had Khao soi pork, so thats what I ordered. It was outstanding! Rich, fragrant curry sauce, tender braised pork, and just the right mix of soft and fried noodles. Drinking water and all the typical condiments/fixings freely available in the small but comfortable seating area. I definitely want to come back and try the beef next!
Visited this place near closing time, and they just had pork Khao soi left. It was busy with end of lunch rush and a mix of Thai and tourist customers. Curry was delicious, maybe a little less spicy than I would have hoped , but easy to take care of with some chili. Portions were reasonable, not huge, curry was flavorful, and noodles had a great texture.
This is one of those places that you just have to go and try. Glad we decided to get a grab ride there to get there "early" - when we arrived, there were no tables left and when we ordered, the owner serving us had to ask her husband if there was still enough chicken left. We finally got some seats while waiting for our order and not long after, they closed the gates to stop any further customers coming in. We got there close to 12 noon and they were shut before 1pm. They are that good that they dont have to spend the whole day trying to get customers to earn a living. Best part, they werent selling their dishes at inflated prices in spite of their popularity and location. Its just what it should be ... 50 to 60 baht depending on the type of meat selected.
Cannot reccomend this place enough! The best food Ive eaten in Thailand, if not, in my life. Amazing food, simple - delicious! Cant wait to go again!
Best Khao Soi (Curry noodles), Spicy and Non Spicy Clear noodles soup, even my girls love them and said really good
Very busy when we arrived at noon, needed to wait a bit. Mix of locals and tourists. The soup is delicious, not very sweet and more spicy than others. What I did not enjoy so much were the very short, soft noodles, the tiny pieces of beef and the small amount of soup. After mixing in the mustard greens and onion, it looks more like a stew than a soup. It is a good Khao Soi, but there are better ones in CM.
Amazing Khao Soi and so cheap. 2 chicken Khao Soi, 2 X diet coke and a water was only 160 baht. As khao Soi go, this one had the best crispy noodles and the second best broth that I have tried in Chiang Mai. Gets very busy and only opens for lunchtime. If you appear later than the lunchtime rush at 12 then they might have run out of beef or they might have just shut altogether! Awesome spot for breakfast or lunch if you like Khao soi
The best Khao Soi! It is packed every single day. Around 1100 all of the tables were full. We’ve gone back several times because it is so good. You need to visit and give it a try!!
Authentic khao soi in a clean, no frills restaurant. Recommended.
We had read in a blog that this spot had the best Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. We went ahead and tried it and it was good, but not nearly the best.Make sure to arrive early. We got there at 1pm on a Saturday and they had already ran out of beef. We then ordered 2 khao soi with chicken but they only had one. So we ended up ordering one with chicken for 50bth and one with pork for 70bth.Keep in mind, their hours are from 10am-2pm everyday except on Sundays when they are closed.Overall an overly hyped restaurant. We tried delicious Khao Soi from more low key spots in Chiang Mai, made with good ingredients and for good prices as well.
Arguably the best bowl of Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. Definitely top three. Order a bowl with beef, order a bowl with chicken. You’ll finish both, it’s that good. Don’t forget to have a longan drink!! Open only for lunch. Closed on Sunday.
60 baht for bowl of chicken khao soi and 20 baht for longan juice.. definitely worth it. It was good
Greatness available here to get it follow two simple steps. One - show up early, two -bring your appetite.Relocate this restaurant to any of the largest metropolitan cities anywhere in the world and you would need to get on a waiting list months in advance and fill out a credit application to cover the bill.Just look past the chaos and the dirty dishes and the appearance of disorganization. Fill out the paper turn it in and go to your table and wait for greatness to arrive.
Overrated place. I don’t think it was noticeably better than other Khao Soi places considering that we had to wait for 1 hour to get our food. Go to any night market and you get your food served instantly and it tastes 80-90% the same.
Very tasty, cheap quick service as expected from the other reviews. I had the beef with a lotus drink which wasnt too sweet and cut the spice from the Khao Soi nicely. It made for a great breakfast for 80 baht.Ill be back.
taste is good but its becoming expensive and smaller portion.
This stall is run by two ladies who serve up some mean noodles. We had the beef khao soi and pork soup noodles. Both satisfyingly washed down with their iced longan drink.
Best Khao Soi (THB 50-70I had in Chiang Mai. The soup/curry is the thickest. Business hours is 10am to 2pm only, closed on Sunday.BTW, they are closed on 4 August 2022 to 7 Aug.
Totally awesome Khao Soi in quaint outdoor area. Ridiculously freshly ground spice blends and tender beer ( which is saying a lot in Thailand where beef can frequently be served tough ).Ran by some sweet grandma types who qorknflat out and sell out quickly. The food is extremely cheap but there is no skimping on the quality. The real Khao soy deal!
One of the best Khao SOI I tried in North of Thailand. A little spicy but full of flavour and for a very good price. 100% recommended.
Best Khao soi I have ever had, I think. Its definitely got a spicy kick though, so be warned if you dont eat spicy.
Absolutely delicious. I had chicken Khao soi, aromatic, intense, fresh, perfect spicy, and low prices. The best Ive had so far. These ladies are masters and they know it. They close early, make sure you come on time!
Delish soup with beef. Just a warm satisfying meal like a tight hug on a rainy day! Must try if in Chiang Mai.Lots of parking.Check opening hours.Simple meal but presses the right buttons.
I dream about this Khao Soi sometimes. Definitely my personal favorite in Chiang Mai. When I lived there Id probably go at least 3 times per week. It was 40 baht but its been raised to 50 baht. Id pay 100 baht for a bowl. Dont forget to get a bag of pork rinds to go with your meal.
My first taste of khao soi, and it was as nice as I hoped it would be, albeit a bit spicier than I anticipated. Portions were decent.Would definitely return again.
Dang this was good! We had the Chicken Khao Soi and boy, it was fantastic !
Best chicken Khao Soi I’ve ever had! The broth is creamy and ratio to noodles is great. When we were there it was a mix of locals and tourists, it quickly filled up around 12pm. You order at the counter and pay after you eat. Must go-to place in Chiang Mai!
Recommended by our local guide. A rich tasting bowl of curry noodle and pair really well with the sides of onions and mustard.
Curry based noodles with fresh herbs galangal turmeric lemon grass. Mildly spicy with light coconut cream. I had the basic beef n chicken pieces B90. Cooked with passion
The pork khao soi is so delicious here. Another solid Chiang Mai khao soi spot. Amazing soup for only about ~$1.50 USD. It’s an outdoor restaurant with a covering. Very simple and laidback. Love it, highly recommend.
Another 5 stars from me. A good combination of Thai taste. Dont add too much lime just a bit is enough. This will not ruin the authentic taste. Add shallot and thai pickle as you like.Available parking space inside.Usually no queue, if you be there for brunch.
A creamy and delicious Khao soi, our favorite so far. The pork and chicken are both delicious
Had researched the best place for Khao Soi in Chiang Mai and this place kept being mentioned. It certainly lives up to expectation - this is the best Khao Soi we have had in Thailand. We got there around 1pm and the Chicken and Beef had sold out so we had the Pork. Portion size is quite small compared to some places, but was just right for us as a lunch. Highly recommend! You’ve got to try it if you are in Chiang Mai.
The BEST Khoa Soi in ALL of Thailand. Hands down. Been coming here since I first came to Chiang Mai. No other Khao Soi compares. When Im in town, I come here...even days in a row! Try the longon and lotus juices, they are lovely!
Theyve still got the touch after all these years! The name roughly translates to "your grandmas Khao Soi" and Ive been coming here religiously since 2015 every chance I get. If youve had Khao Soi somewhere else and thought it was just so-so, come here and try the best on the planet! Deep, rich flavors with the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, sour and savory. Go between 10-11am before the crowds of locals start coming in, order Khao Soi Gai (chicken), and try the longan or lotus juice. Its a quintessential Chiang Mai experience that should absolutely NOT be missed.
Coming back here after two years .. Khao Soi Khun Yai still reigns supreme. Hands down the best Chicken Khao Soi in Chiang Mai. The curry soup is thick and full of flavors, totally yummy.Tips: if you can only order one dish, get their chicken khao soi, you won’t be disappointed. The beef and the spicy pork are still good but not special.
Exceptionally good Khao Soi, not as much cream used as other places so it gives it a more natural balanced flavour. This place is hard to beat. Will definitely be back many times.
Visit #2:The chicken Khao Soi was amazing. Im glad I came back because the last visit took it from a 4 to a 5 star experience. The curry was delicious and spicy and the chicken just as tender and flavourful as last time. I highly recommend this Khao Soi. The curry is not sweet and the portions are big. Not to mention the ladies who work there are very sweet.Visit #1:Almost perfect. Had the chicken Khao Soi and loved it but felt the broth was lacking the x factor. The chicken was amazing though and very juicy, but only got a couple small pieces, no drumstick or anything like that. It was very busy but the wait was not too bad around noon and the prices are hard to beat. I almost forgot to mention the noodles are very delicious too, perfectly cooked and seemingly homemade. Would be 5 stars if the curry was a bit more delicious. Ill just have to go back and try again.
On multiple "what to eat in Chiang Mai" sites, Ive come across this place. I was super curious as to why so many people liked it. It is very easy to miss if you arent looking for it as there is a wall around it. The only indication of the place is a small red hanging sign that says the name. I arrived an hour after service started, at 11am. There wasnt a seat free. So many people eating and sweating. The spice isnt that crazy, but it will definitely make you start to sweat. Great depth of flavor in the soup and the chicken had been perfectly cooked. For 40B the small was huge and filling. The large size was like double the amount for 10B more. I am staying on the other side of Old City and had to try it. Definitely worth it!
First meal in Chiang Mai didn’t disappoint! The khao soi dish has amazing flavors! Coconut milk, egg noodles, meat, and the perfect mix of spices! Loved this meal so much! 💯💯💯
