1916 Post Alley, Seattle, WA 98101, United States, Seattle
Traditional Irish pub offering shepherd's pie, Guinness & live Celtic music above Pike Place Market.
Food servings could be larger for the price, and the menu is limited, but the service was good and the atmosphere was cool. Awesome to eat at a haunted establishment with a lot of history.
On first entering the restaurant, we discovered two staff members, a male and a female, engaged in a loud, heated exchange. We didn’t initially realize that they were staff and assumed they were patrons; although there were not many patrons inside, this behaviour was still inappropriate and should not have occurred in front of customers. The food was okay but not outstanding. My husband had the Irish stew, which was more like soup because the broth was very runny; I had the corned beef sandwich, which contained 2 pieces of very fatty corned beef that didn’t even reach the edges of the toasted bread. We’re disappointed and won’t be back; in addition, we’ll tell friends to avoid it.
I wasn’t the first time at this restaurant, but we had again not a great experience. Food and service is of average quality, I probably won’t come back here.
Fun bartenders, great drinks, sucks that the kitchen closes at 9 but I had a great experience with my parents, aunt a uncle. Im definitely going back
We came all the way Colorado... Its humid out, I walked in and within seconds got scolded for bringing my water bottle in. I then walked back out...(first impressions mean everything and so does the Manor in which you talk to people! 0 stars for the least amount of time it ever took someone to be rude to me at a restaurant!
Its a cozy and quaint Irish bar that features classic Irish comfort food--Shepherds Pie, bangers and mash, and Corned beef and cabbage. They also have a selection of beers and mixed drinks. Bonus points for the atte tion to detail with the framed photographs of iconic Irish scenery and famed icons. Also bonus points for us having a wonderful server on a successful double date!
Service was very slow. Granted, it was probably a one-off incident, but Id like to have my beer alongside my food. Ended up having to order two rounds so that Id have a drink while eating.Definitely a bit pricey. From my experience, the average beer in Seattle is around 7 bucks. Here, it was 8-9. I paid 21 bucks for some fries and 6 wings.Kells definitely doesnt disappoint at their Portland location, but this place was just... Meh. Probably has to do with its location right along pikes.
My choice was corn beef and cabbage, it was just corn beef fat and cabbage. I tried to eat it but had to spit it out..The reaction I got from the waiter was " too bad, want something else " will not be back.
Nice location. Food was decent nothing too exciting. Slow service as they seemed understaffed however they were friendly.
Nice bar, good music. August 19th, Unfortunately the bar man seemed to be in a mood from the moment we walked in. He was not polite almost being right out rude from the get go. We were not drunk or obnoxious in any way as we had just arrived in Seattle one hour earlier after a long drive. For some reason when it was 25mins to closing he proceeded grab my friends unfinished drink and throw it down the sink. Its unfortunate as it does seem like a nice bar.
Loved the food. I couldnt make a decision on what cocktail to get and the waitress/ bartender suggested a black currant lemon drop and I loved it. I come here often as I love Irish food and have Irish heritage in my moms side.
Found this place by accident. It is located above Pikes Place in an alley/walkway. Super authentic food and drinks. We stopped in to have a beer before we headed home. Staff were very friendly and it definitely felt like we were in a bar un Ireland.
Great little Irish pub. Visited with the owner and shes a great lady. Would go back again
While visiting Seattle with family prior to our cruise, we ate at Kell’s. 10 years ago on another family vacation we had eaten here and had a great time. Our food was okay, my son-in-law couldn’t drink his beer, he said it had a really bad aftertaste. (First time EVER he has not finished a beer. My food was cold and non edible. When we got back to our hotel we realized we were overcharged $17.00. I had two sides-$11.00 and a beer, my husband had fish and chips-$17.00 and a beer. Check your slip before leaving. They were not busy and our waitress had collected several bills at the same time. Will not return. Not worth the time or stress of trying to make it right.
Always love Kells visits. Great Irish food, delicious beer. My favorite is always the nitro darks they have on tap.
Went there for the Irish Breakfast and was very disappointed, the name should be changed to Dennys breakfast,We passed up a lot of good food on the walk over there for that, my kids were disappointed with it, even they knew it was B.S In my opinion there are 2 things that an Irish Pub in the US have to get right to be a legit Irish Pub,1 is the Guiness and 2 the Irish Breakfast, dont care how many bodhrans you have hanging up or how many shillelaghs are in the glass case the Guinness and the service were good but the "Traditional Irish Breakfast" was just a feeble attempt, no black or white pudding, no beans, no fried tomatoes, no mushrooms, no toast, came with scrambled eggs and some counterfeit sausage, I dont think that dish is "traditional" in any county, makes me wonder if you have ever had one yourselves.
Decent shepherds pie. Smaller on portion size than I am used to, but it was satisfying without feeling stuffed. Unique take on Seattle dog is well worth the try. Service was a bit slower than I would have expected. Waiter never showed up, the bartender finally had to wait on us in the back so he got the tip!
It was a perfect older bar. I love older dark bars my favorite type. Bloody Mary was great.
Just popped in for a brew while killing a couple hours with a friend. Friendly little place with an abundance of house beers and a whole lot of Irish whiskey.Would I call this a dive bar? Yeah, I think I would. Its dark, feels like it should be smoky, and should have sticky floors, but it doesnt.Need a beer near pikes without the gazillion tourists? This is your spot.
If you happen to be around Pike Place, please make your way to Kells! I had a sausage roll which was absolutely delicious, if youve tasted any from South Africa then you will love this. I also had the beef pie (picturedand it was also just as delicious. Really family friendly restaurant with its own charm. Id highly recommend for you.
We were waiting for our table at the Pink Door on the other side of the street, so we ordered 2 ginger ales and one beer. The server was rude and mumbled on the fact that we didnt order more, on top of charging us for 4 ginger ales and one beer. I called but i havent received a refund yet.
Hidden but fun place to find. Food is delicious and so is the beers.
This a great Irish bar and restaurant by Pike Place Market. They have traditional Irish food if youre craving corned beef and cabbage or Irish stew! Its in a very old building thats been featured on a few paranormal activity TV shows. The restaurant/bar itself is mostly wood so no booth seating but its very pretty and still comfortable. You can sit at the bar or a table. The have TVs with sports usually playing. Its a great place to grab something to eat downtown especially if you dont get down there early and the rest if the market is close Kells and other businesses in Post Alley generally stay open later than the actual market.
Great staff, food and ambiance. Karina took great care of us yesterday as we were also the only ones on the patio. We have been here numerous times and cannot wait to come back!
We just happened to find this place while out wandering around Seattle! It was so good! The service was great and it has a neat atmosphere! The Irish stew is amazing!! Highly recommend this restaurant!
Stopped in for lunch and met the owner. Sweet woman with lots of tales to tell. The service was good and the food was great. Definitely recommend!
Amazing food nothing on the menu that was bad. We all (7 peoplegot multiple items and split them to try everything and was amazed by all, and the beers I swear came from the taps of the the heavens! I highly recommend!
A very pleasant surprise on Pike Place!A typical Irish pub interior, Dubliners playing on speakers, with good but not great choice of draft beers, however, they have an awesome cook! I ordered pork belly with mashed potatoes, gravy and vegetable skewers. Sounds plain, but it was unlike any dish of a similar content I tried before. I really enjoyed every bite of it. Will definitely go back!
Attended a work gathering on St. Patricks Day. Great space and ambiance with friendly staff and quick service. Traditional Irish pub offerings and I enjoyed everything I tried. Definitely check it out if you are near Pike Market.
I have been to numerous Irish bars in both East and West coast, this is definitely one of the nicest ones! We ordered their chicken pasty, wings and hummus along with the stouts, lagers, and hazy IPAs. Everything was just perfect! I would strongly recommend you to try their Chicken Pasty, its delicious! A must visit if youre in Seattle. Also, patio dining of course. 😜
I enjoyed all the food, especially the Jameson wings and shepherd pie. The artichoke dip, was pretty plain, despite that I enjoyed eating here. Didnt get to experience anything spooky though.
My wife and I went to Kells Irish Pub on a whelm We found it in a ally that we missed the day before. So we looked up the Pub and found the reviews interesting with mixed results. Well we both found that it was not right for some the reviews. The Bar tender Ben was top notch he answered our questions with interest and found substitutes since the pub was out of Guinness and set a taster of Kells Stout. Well that was a match what I like to drink and for my wife the cider was spot on. Lunch was a good experience with the taste which she liked and everything hot and tastefully seasoned. I choose fries with the right amount and right out of the fryer. So after eating our meals we had Q and A with Ben about different types of whiskeys. We both tried different ones and found new ones that we havent tried or tasted. Then it started to be a place where we want to visit again as soon as we can. Then the next day we showed up to try different food was not disappointed at all. The clam chowder was spot on. The amount you get in a cup was full of clams potatos and onions. Soda bread was a nice chew and worked really well with the chowder. Plus it was hot a good thing for me.Then we tried more different whiskey and scotches. It was a point where we had to leave to go home made our trip a better point. We will be back to to try some more food and drinks and more beer. Thanks for the memories and making our trip special.
Historic setting with fast service and yummy food. I had the artichoke dip and soda bread…delicious. This location was the first purposely built mortuary and it’s still said to be haunted. We spoke to a new employee who said he’s had a personal paranormal experience and he hasn’t even been here very long…
Its one of the worst experiences in all my life in all the countries I have visited.I was the first client on a Saturday morning, and when I read the excellent reviews, I decided to ask for traditional Belgian waffles.BIG MISTAKE!My photo is pretty good in comparison with reality: waffles from the supermarket 🤨Also, the waiter was very rude all the time. Ive seen it is pretty standard in Seattle that restaurants give you the check immediately, but he was especially memorable for his lousy attitude all the time.
The food is pretty good and the staff are friendly. Our hostess was friendly personable and she made up for the slow service. We went on a Saturday around lunch time (peak tourism, I knowand were able to get a table in <10 mins, but waited 30+ mins after ordering for our food. The food is what youd expect, but they dont gouge you for being in Pike Place area. Id go here again next time we have visitors.
Delicious food and terrific service!! Mike is a fantastic waiter and took such great care of us! We had the best beer and cider ever!!
We went to this place because we couldn’t get a table in other restaurants near pike place without reservation. We went here without much expectations. However, the food, drink and service are awesome. Highly recommended.
Went in on a sunny Sat afternoon and was able to grab a table inside - very busy, almost all tables were taken. We were very hungry from walking around so we ordered the Reuben ($14and the Beef Burger ($12which came with French fries/tots - ended up being incredibly small portions! So disappointing! Especially the Reuben which was recommended to me by the waiter as one of the most popular items on the menu - more like two Reuben sliders! The French fry/tots were also a small portion...such a rip off for $14 and $12. Come here only for a beer, for food take your money elsewhere!
AmbianceView of the water would be nice if the trees werent blocking the view. Im sure its nice with all the bistro lights overhead. The service was fine. Nothing out of the ordinary nothing horrible. The biggest issue I had was that the server wasnt super knowledgeable about what was and was not in stock. The Sheppards pie had a comforting meal but was nothing out of the ordinary .but it did have a nice warm home cooked meal vibe. The gravy over the potatoes gave a nice sauciness to the potatoes and the meat was nice and well seasoned.Overall nothing to write home about but a very good meal. It tasted like a good Irish meal my grandmother would make on a cold winters night.
Great Irish pub vibes! Love the warm atmosphere on a rainy day and their sausage rolls are delicious! Always come here when I visit pike for a drink
Great food, service was a little slow but the poor bartender was the waitress as well and it was pretty busy. The corn beef hash pasty was DELICIOUS and the potato soup was great, I was a little disappointed in the Shepards pie.
Perfect place to stop for a cold brew while exploring Seattle. I walked in and asked if there was anywhere I could sit and charge my phone. I was directed towards a table that could easily sit 4+ right next to an outlet. I am more than relieved to have been able to fully charge my phone in comfort while enjoying a delicious red ale. I was never made to feel in the way for sitting at a table larger than my party of one demanded. Attentive staff and great atmosphere!
Good beer and food! Very close to Pike place Market, in a small lane off the main road. Place has a good feel to it.
Decided to make a stop here for a couple different reasons. Something about being haunted. (Of which I saw nothing)Also that its the oldest Irish pub in seattle.1. The food is excellent no question about it.2. The service is spot on! My barmaid and the original owner were both abundantly kind to me. Took me on a tour. And chatted with me for my duration. Of which I I very grateful for such wonderful service and company. Along with getting personal introductions to the owners family.3. Its a great place to just lounge. Welcoming atmosphere and just a natural sense of warmth that radiates through these old and new walls.I personally an very glad I stepped foot in here. Thank you for a wonderful meal. Wonderful and charming company. And for having your doors open upon my arrival.Thank you so much! And best of luck with the upcoming business ventures!
Kells is that cozy Irish pub tucked away in an alley. It is a real gem. We had pasties, and sausage rolls and steak and kidney pie. Everything we tried was awesome. Perhaps this highlight of the meal was the Irish soda bread. We ordered 3 extra plates because it was so good with butter. Our server was welcoming, friendly and had the most wonderful accent. It was a great experience.
Loved going to this great pub on vacation. We had an late dinner and there was drunk racism man being ridiculous. I felt bad the staff they tried being nice and warning him to stop. Our waiter was so sweet and apologetic about the drunk, who came in after us. The staff was so great to us and we did come in pretty late so they didnt have to serve us at all. I loved the genuine Irish pub feel and decor.
I do love a good Irish bar and attend many because I enjoy the people and the environment. Kells Irish Restaurant and Pub is conveniently located downtown Seattle at the Pike Place Market. If you sit outside on a nice sunny day in Seattle you can see the waterfront and amazing views from the outside seating. The interior is very clean, welcoming and place you would like to spend with family, friends or even a cozy date. Theirs live music, lots of yummy bites, meals and beers to choose from as well as your Irish Whiskeys. Check this place out, you might fall in love with it and make it your favorite watering hole.
The baked brie was fantastic, we should have gotten 3 or 4 for a table of 9, they are small. We all got a different pasty and everyone was in love with them! The clam chowder was slightly disappointing, maybe it would have been better if it came out first. Kells beers were on special price during happy hour, the service was friendly and attentive!
Location is really great and near the market, walking to it is very easy. Came for lunch right as they opened and it wasnt very busy.Food was really well done and I had trouble deciding what I wanted because it all sounded pretty great. Ingredients were fresh and food came our fairly quick. Beer selection was okay but the bigger plus is probably going to be the wall of liquor for cocktails. Staff wasnt really ready for customers and there was a ton of prep work left to do from the previous evening. Bartender was friendly and made us feel welcome. We really got an Irish family vibe from the place.Lighting is pretty dim but the atmosphere was great. Tourists may recognize the location from the Travel Channel episode of Ghost Adventures (which is why I went). Overall, a good experience.
We just dropped in for a break from sightseeing to have a drink and something small to eat. The crab cakes were fab and came with a little bowl of potato soup. Very tasty. Our server Charlie was so friendly and gave us good recommendations for the nightlife in the area. We also spoke to the owner (shes Irish too, always a plusreally interesting lady and we loved how she picked those premises because the address was 1916. Definitely worth a visit, the Kells craft beer is very nice too!
