Kay's Cafe in Highland

The restaurant was pretty empty. When I indicated that it was only me having breakfast I think it was the owner who said do you want to sit at the counter? No.I was directed to sit in any of the very many empty booths. The waitress was amazing. Quick to warm up my coffee. Food was great.Owner completely ignored me as I left.

Love the food here. Waitresses are attentive and friendly. An affordable favorite that I keep coming back to.

Took our granddaughter there for an early Birthday breakfast. Her boyfriend came,too. Food was very good.

I typically dont do this type of BAD REVIEW, but because of what just happened I feel the need to.My Wife and I are people of color and we were not treated warmly here at ALL!!Came in sat down, and were IGNORED. THE STAFF made a point to walk around us, not greet us, but greeted other people.Only difference between my Wife and those other folks were YOU GUESSED IT - OUR COLOR.We went to another Cafe, Mollys in San Bernardino and were treated like HUMANS

The cafe was clean and the food comes in large servings. Our server was polite and check on us often.

It was a long wait for them to take my order. Food was not hot and my eggs were overcooked, I would have sent them back, but they never came back to check on us. The corned beef was ok, but for the price one can get better food for less. Over $4.00 for ice tea.

The prices are high, the food quality is low, and the service very indifferent. Its evident this place once did a lot more business. Now, like so many other independent operators, they are struggling to put something halfway decent on the table.

Absolutely delicious diner!!Eggs are perfect!The Korean beef is so tasty! ( old family recipe)The potatoes are out of this world 😋The biscuits were soft, fluffy and perfectly warmedOh my lord the gravy was soooo tastyTeresa was such a wonderful server. 10+ years of experience. Best American breakfast between Yucaipa to Pasadena. Quality ingredients. Best bacon. Cook is on point. Staff Is super welcoming. Did I mention the perfect bacon. Love the bacon. Eggs cooked perfect too. Oh and the potatoes. Dang.

Kays Cafe is a great little secret. I love the B.L.A.T. sandwich and the French Toast is always perfect! I wish they had one closer to my home!

I am disgusted 🤮i got chicken tenders today and noticed a weird tasting tender!!when i ripped open one of them and i was shocked from what I saw green mold in my food. The waitress came by and i called her over and she said"what happened there" I told her to look at my food and as she looked she laughed and walked away from me. I am so disappointed if I get sick Im going to take legal action

Been coming here since I was a kid but this last year the service has gone down hill. The owner her self is the problem. I have had to walk out several times due to rude attitude and poor customer service. I wont be returning anymore to this establishment.

Had the best hamburger & fries ever!! 🍔 $12 only sad thing cause the pandemic they are short waitresses. Waiting time a little over 30 minutes then 20 min to get our food but ohhh the wait was worth it 👌 😋

The waitress was kind and polite. The food was disappointing. We ordered the corned beef hash/eggs/biscuits and gravy, Reuben sandwich/potato salad to go, and a Frisco burger. The food took a while and the burger had to be sent back because it was undercooked. The corned beef hash tasted good/ok but the portions were small and it seems like a rip off. The burger patty was tasteless, bland, and had no flavor whatsoever. The Reuben sandwich was good but I asked for a potato salad for the side and they gave me red potato salad which had very little flavor other than a sour taste. I havent been here in a while but I used to eat here a lot and the lines were huge and the food was great. Today, we arrived at 10 and it was half empty. Now I know why.

Good food! It tastes like home made. It takes a while to get server but its totally worth it. FYI, The pancakes are huge, practically same size as the plate, and taste good too!

I wasnt impress, this restaurant wasnt clean. only 1 waitress working, decided to order food anyhow cuz, Ive been there many years ago. Ordered eggs, country style potatoes & bacon & 1 small cup of coffee I was the only 1 dinning in. My check came out to $18 for only 1 person. Yup!!!! The prices have gone up, it isnt worth it, Ive been to other restaurants. Next time, going to Dennys or IHOP. At least there, I will be satisfied.

This place is really good. The service is excellent if you get one of the 2 younger ladies that are there. Unfortunately the Asian lady thats there is not very personable. Other than that, really a good place overall.

Great food and service. I had Eggs Benedict Cowboy style (first timeand a side of corned beef hash. Both were great. The corned beef hash is my favorite. Kays uses real corned beef NOT canned. I became a fan of the eggs Benedict Cowboy. Enjoy!

First time eating here and it was comfy, large and the food was awesome!! The service was amazing and the prices really good.

Absolutely wonderful experience. Me and the boys stopped by on our way down from big bear and had our fill. They accommodated our big party outside in the patio to stay covid safe.

Always a favorite to go to a local diner. I usually get the country fried steak breakfast. Its big and filling and my kids love the pancakes with strawberries on top! Also the Corn beef hash breakfast is great! They use real corned beef and not any canned stuff!

I really like this place except the owner is extremely rude...the other two waitress are great. Good service and everything...every time I get the owner nothing but rude service unless your paying....I normally come with a co-worker but last couple of times I’ve gone the service has been terrible....Not overall impressed they need to hire more servers...

I ordered steak and eggs that comes with potatoes and biscuit & gravy or toast. Before I ordered I ask specifically asked if I could substitute something for cottage cheese or will it be extra . The waitress told me that the only thing she could do would be to take away the potatoes if not the cottage cheese would be extra . I said that was perfect. It would have been perfect because I’m not eating carbs but I always get charged extra for cottage cheese. Never have I said anything till today because today I specifically asked about substitution. So then I get my bill and see that of course I was charged extra for the cottage cheese. I will never argue a charge if that’s what I ordered. But she told me it could be substituted. When asked why I was charged for the cottage cheese she proceeded to say that it costs extra to replace potatoes with cottage cheese. First of this is not surgery where u have to take something out to put something in. Your doing less work by not cooking potatoes and giving cold cottage cheese in a bowl. How is it I can take something away and replace it with something else yet get charged extra. Especially after you said I could do it and to top it all off on the menu it was 1.00 for cottage cheese and on my order it was 1.50 . I understand extra costs and prices going up but have the correct pricing on you menu and please don’t tell someone what they can do then turn around and do the exact opposite. Because if you are going to charge me extra I would have gladly taken the potatoes and given them to a homeless person . I’m not some newcomer either I’ve been coming to this establishment since I was a kid . It’s gone downhill in many ways and I don’t usually post reviews especially bad ones but you life to my face and I payed for it so here is your review.

Hi, I was greeted by a friendly waitress when I entered. She brought me HOT coffee right away and kept my cup full ( love that). The food was excellent especially the bacon. Most restaurants serve little wimpy thin almost see through bacon, not here it was thick great tasting bacon.

I have been eating here on and off since they were in Redlands but today my B&Gs were so salty I could not eat them. Service was great as always and they were very fast. I will always go back if in my home town for breakfast but today the chef was a little off or my tastebuds were.

Not sure if shes the manager or the owner, but shes very rude unless you are a regular.Ive only had one waitress. She was great, so we make sure to be seated in her section every time.Editing to add that Ive now had the owner Kay and one other waitress. Still saying that if you get a good waitress, its a great experience. If you get the owner or some of the other waitresses, then Id rather go somewhere else.Food is good. Large portions at a decent price.Breakfast menu is down home comfort food, with several Mexican or Mexican inspired dishes as well. Their fried potatoes/hash browns are the best in town.

Precious hidden gem!! Kays Cafe is friendly, clean and delicious. I reccomend you try them, if youre in the area and looking for some deliciously fulfilling food. They do also have veggie patties and meat free options. Only bringing this up cause of lent, and the steaks looked amazing i couldnt have one today. You bet Im going to have to return!!

What a wonderfully cozy spot for breakfast. Fast service, vey clean and well lit. The blueberry pancakes are delicious and gigantic. If you go home hungry, its your own fault! Very reasonable prices too.

The cook/owner shares her love of southern comfort food with everything she cooks. She sources as much locally as possible - you will find everything from hand mashed potatoes to roasted cauliflower to roasted beets to pan friend cabbage. Hands down the best gravy around!

I was looking for a few cups of coffee and some breakfast after testing at Beaver Medical on Boulder. This place had good reviews. Unfortunately, I totally disagree. The female that waited on me had not one smile on her face. I had to ask for my coffee refills every time and it was definitely difficult to get her attention. I sat at the counter and there was hardly anyone in there so there was no excuse except that she was moping around. There was one female that did smile and was helpful but it wasnt my waitress. I would rate service is very poor. The eggs, bacon and sausage or cooked well. The pretend butter was such low quality that it didnt melt on my pancakes. The pancakes had a sour taste to them. The syrup was not warmed. I definitely would have been better off finding a Cocos, IHOP or are even Dennys but I was trying to find a homey place.

The wife decided to have a Patty Melt for breakfast and they did her right, always good service, and food, plus very clean and friendly...

The waitress Teresa did not have great customer service. The food was not tasty. I told her to bring my toast not burnt and she brought it super burnt. I asked her for coffee and she forgot. She passed by me a few times and never asked if I needed anything. She had an attitude from the beginning and once youre ready to pay she is nice. She did not deserve a tip. The reason they get 2 stars is because the other staff was nice to me and brought me the things I have requested. If the food was tastier I would return. I would definitely recommend Breakfast Shack in Redlands.

This has always been a go to place for our family when we lived in Highland. Now that we are back in town we are pleased to see Theresa still working here! She has ALWAYS given A+ service. She is one of the reasons we keep coming back! The food is always hot and tasty. We have never been disappointed!

The service is a 4 of 5 because of some ( not all rude waitresses. The food is quality and huge! A plate I would recommend is the seasonal pumpkin pancakes. I ordered 3 pancakes, big enough to fill a big plate, for 5.95! I honestly don’t come regularly for anything. I always go in October, the time of year in which they have the pancakes. Great deals, offordable, 4/5 service. Reasonable cafe.

Nice friendly little breakfast restaurant. The staff are friendly and service is good. The food tastes very homemade and delicious. They offer daily specials and are only open for specific hours of the day.The only downside I can say about this place is it feels a bit outdated (although it is a vintage themed place, the place has no color to itand you get a bit of a dirty feeling being inside.Other than that, its a nice friendly dinner with great home cooked food.
