This place is the best place to eat in Hilo. Im a picky eater, very picky. I love Japanese foods. This place has foods that remind me of older Hawaii. Like grandmas cooking. Simple yet tasty. You cannot order just one item! Lines can get long, and if you go too late foods can run out!The customer service here is one of a kind. These days its so rare to find customer service like what this place offers. Really, like old Hawaii customer service. You know. Before all the big corps and foreigners. This business has my lifetime support! (as long as they dont sell ;))Kawamoto, please never change!!! I miss business styles like this!

First timer here..The customer service is exceptional, the line can get long but worth it. *Early bird gets the worm.One dude stood out the most he has a positive vibe and very welcoming. Aloha definitely is served here!

The reviews dont lie. This place is incredible. Priced phenomenally, this is a great spot to get Japanese favorites that are done perfectly. Loved the noodles, Ono, tempura green beans/shrimp/sweet potato. Korean chicken was also very good.

An institution. Efficient, fast, hardworking folks.Come early for tempura, nori chicken, and bentos. When theyre sold out, they pau.Never had a bad meal from here.

This has some of the best food in town. The nori chicken is amazing but always sold out. Gotta get there early if you want any. Everyone behind the counter is super friendly and always smiling. I would recommend this spot for breakfast/lunch any day!

Great food and low price

Went here for brunch and they were SO nice. I explained I had not been there before and one of the women was kind and explained how it worked. The spam sushi was delicious!! Going back tomorrow morning!

Tempura everything was good. Maki is good. Chicken nori was underwhelming. Keep in mind pretty much everything is room temp.

Great locally owned store over 70 years old. Closes by 12 noon or whenever they sell out their fresh stock. Get there early to make sure they have the ono grindz you crave. Support local businesses, it really matters.

Great local place for an impromptu custom bento. Line was a few feet out the door so had to wait about 20 minutes for order to be taken. When you get up to the case a patient employee will take down your order then go fill your order and meet you at the register to pay. Don’t worry you’ll have plenty of time once you get inside to ogle at all the food options they have in the case. Everything tasted great and satisfied the craving. Don’t forget to order at least a serving or two of long rice, nishime (stewed root veggies), mac salad. They had a Portuguese pickle on the white board for $6. Great rice vinegar based pickle option that helped cut through the fried options.

Ive tried okazuya all over HAWAII, -Oahu, Maui, kauai, kawamotos in hilo is by far thee best okazuya in the 808 st8.....my go2 is Teri beef,shrimp tempura, cone sushi, and bean tempura 1pc.if um really hungry great then I add the long rice and hash patty with 1 Ono breaded tho.

The best ... I like six cone sushi and 12 fish 🐠 mostly Ono ... Along with Kawamoto tartar sauce you will be in Heaven !!! (Chicken is excellent also...

Usually love that place but recently went in, waited 45 mins to be seen because workers were too busy working on phone orders. Probably best to phone in your order. The lady in front me said she was waiting 1 hour. Crazy for a place that the food is already prepared. Also I know you said only one person works phone orders but you had 2 yesterday I was watching. I young girl and 1 chubby one. And the 2 guys were doing walk ins.

Delicious local okazuya with lots of variety. Typical hole-in-the-wall storefront that could use some sprucing up. Staff was efficient at disinfecting surfaces between customers and providing good customer service. So affordable. Will be back.

Oh man! The Panko Shrimp, vegetable tempura,, mac/tuna salad, different breaded fish. Noodles, cone sushi,Teri meat, hash patties, nishimae, just a name of few, on the menu.... is broke da mouth ridiculous! If you like lunch shop food? Make sure you check this place out, cause you definitely will be satisfied with the service, and the tummy will be in heaven..

LOVE this place!! My favorite go to items are their tempura shrimp, ono, sweet potato tempura, long rice and nishime!! Onolicious!! But everything they make is Yummy!

Very good food, and really inexpensive. I always get veggie tempura and nishime.And the people are very nice and helpful.It’s usually pretty quick, but sometimes it’s a 20-30 minute wait. Can order ahead if you’re short on time.

Authentic great tasting food as always! My order was ready as they said it would be. So greatful for people oriented business that serve aloha even through a pandemic. Mahalo!

Good food, good prices. Never had Okazuya on Oahu but will have to try after Kawamoto. I reccomend the fried chicken and shoyu pork. Hard to go wrong with any of the food they sell, though.

Great breakfast or lunch spot! Cheap items and delicious foods. I really enjoyed the spam musubi, corned beef hash, chicken katsu and shrimp tempura. All excellent choices. The meatball was good too but a bit dry.

Service is fast and friendly and the food is yummy! Always busy in there I highly recommend phone ordering ahead if you can! If not the wait is not so bad and definitely worth it! Price point it also great!

Me And My Family Make It A Point to Come At Least 2-3 times a Month I’ve Grown Up Eating At Okazu Ya Joints Like This And There Shrimp Tempura And Tempura Ono Is To die For! I’ve Never Had Anything I Never Like Also Pricing Is Definitely Reasonable Especially For the Quality Of Food They Are Producing. Old school okazuya. Sweet potato tempura is like a dollar coin size. Lot of friendly workers.

This place is my favorite. This is my first stop EVERY TIME I go to Hilo. I love the fried ono and string bean tempura. The staff is always so nice. Go early if you want nori chicken.

Best place to get lunch to take to the beach!!! Get there very early as its popular and many items sell out quickly. They keep making food all morning though! Parking can be a little tricky, but its worth it! Friendly, helpful staff. Love the fresh fish, and the tempura shrimp is awsome! My favorite take out in Hilo.

I want to keep this place a secret but I can’t. If you love Japanese home style cooking, you will love this place. I recommend you go early. Food sells out quickly. Get the tempura anything! Long rice noodles, sushi, all of it delicious. The people that work there are incredibly nice and helpful.

Thank you for being one of the only places in Hilo open on Sunday! Food was so ono, and cheap. Got a whole box loaded with 4 pieces of fish, sweet potato, hash, chicken, and more, with a soda under $10. Parking kinda bad and I had to drive around 3 times, but worth it. Thank you!

Oh my home food! My mouth waters just looking at the pictures. Kawamotos okazuya was the staple on Sunday mornings... bentos for lunch at the beach.

Staff are always courteous. Recommended to get there early to have a better quantity of their selection of food... AND to beat the crowd. The line may reach out the door on some days but the staff are on top of trying to accomodate customers. *NOTE: It is best to have a game plan of what you want to get before you reach the counter to speed up your visit. You may have to circle around the block for street parking but if you want great Okazu, its worth it. 5 stars for the food and service!!!

Delicious food for cheap! We got enough for two for about $10. I really like the cone sushi, tempura veggies, and pork, but everything I tried was good. We went twice on our trip.

We got there just before closing but still everything we tried was delicious.They even made my son feel extra special on his birthday. We have a new favorite spot for pre-beach snacks!

Nice little place with inexpensive foods togo. Try their shrimp tempura. Its so crispy.

The best Okazu Yu on the Big Island. All I can say is they are awesome with the best tempura, sushi, everything Ono and yummy but go early or order early. All gone by 11am!
