Remains of a 15th-century castle on a cliff, with curved walls & panoramic ocean views.
Wonderful place to be. If you are much in history and admire nature then it should be in your list. Great scenery and peace.
The castle ruins was a nice tour. It had ample parking just past the ruins entrance. The shuttle to and from the ruins was very helpful. Enjoyed the views from atop of the castle ruins.
Great historical site. Nice views of surrounding area.
One of Okinawas UNESCO World Heritage sites, Katsuren Castle offers stunning views of the Pacific Ocean. Set on a hilltop, the grounds showcase the history of the region. The ruins are well-maintained and provide walking trails, interpretive signage, and beautiful landscaping.Parking is across the street from the ruins complex, and theres a small gift shop with snacks and drinks available for visitors. If youre ever in Okinawa, this is one of the must-see destinations to learn a bit about the ancient Ryukyu Kingdom.
Best one so far! Very clean not busy at all, they offer free rides to the base if you dont want to walk.
Cool spot to see if you have 15 / 20 minutes to spare! These castle ruins are situated on top of a hill overlooking the ocean. The views from the top are amazing! The staff are super friendly and there are plenty of restrooms at the bottom of the hill and across the street. Theres also plenty of parking across the street at the Uruma City Historic Site Guide. My family and I truly enjoyed walking and seeing this castle. I will definitely visit again when Im in the area.
Great new facility. Museum is a great opportunity to peak into the past.
Beautiful grounds and views. Very neat to see and learn about this piece of history.
Beautiful location. It is simple but has a significant story and is very well put together. 100% worth a visit!!
Very cool spot, much larger than expected! Awesome 360 degree view of the city / water. Great spot to watch the sunset.
You can see beautiful landscape at the top of this place. Recommend you to visit if you want a great view.
Super nice view. Parking area close. No charge, and restrooms were clean.Take the whole family. Great place to visit during the Covid pandemic.
One of my favorite castles on island. It’s quite the uphill climb, but the view from the top is amazing. A very unique place. There is a diorama of the grounds in the parking lot also. It’s very close to the Uruma island chains so you can do stuff over there as well and just make a day trip out of it.
Beautiful castle ruins overlooking the ocean and parts of okinawa. There are also signs throughout in English and Japanese explaining historical aspects of different sections of the castle.
This place has a really nice view of the pacific oean and is overall quite nice. I definetly recommend to go to this place before sunset since when the sun is shining on the castle, it gives it a really warm and cool look. This place has free parking and closes at 6:00. The stairs may be a bit wet and slippery so be careful when walking up. If youre planning on coming here, maybe learn a bit about the history and what this castle is about so you get a basic understanding and more of an interest towards this castle.
Out of the 3 castle ruins sites that I have been to so far on island I think this was my favorite. And the fact that admission and parking were both free made it even better. It definitely has some narrow and uneven steps so my mom had a bit of trouble but was still able to get to the top. The view from the top is nice. The gift shop at the parking area is small but has restrooms.
Google the rest area, which is across the street from the castle for parking. Then a short walk over and lots of hills to climb so bring your walking shoes. View is pretty good.
Really great access to the world heritidge site. Great views, lots of informative signs in multiple languages. Car park and information office just across the road. Lots of stairs.
Nice little place. Looks like they are doing construction to rebuild alot of the structures. It has free WiFi and a digital app so u can do a 360 view of what it looked like through the ages. Its steep uphill with stairs. I would not recommend sandles or going in the rain. Some steps are limestone so its slippery.
UNESCO world heritage site. Admission free, require a bit of climbing, but view is gorgeous!
Pls Google map under Katsuren Castle Rest Area instead of just Katsuren Castle or you will be brought to wrong place. The rest area has vast parking and brings you to the castle visit.Quite a scenic view from the castle. Well preserved I guess and read off the stories from the various boards.
In the middle of nowhere. Bit of a drive to get to. Once you get to the castle ruins it is pretty cool. Great views.
Grey color of Big stone wall in a curvy shape contrast with green grass. Nice to stroll around .
Easy climb to the top of the castle ruins and there were some information boards to read up on the history of the place. View was good.Parking is opposite the road and parking closes at 6pm.
Google navigation might navigate wrong place. There is the parking along main street. Do not enter narrow roads.
God, one of the most stunning and well preserved Castle ruins in Okinawa, definitely my favourite for the excellent views!
Well maintained. The app was helpful and worked well. Nice walk and beautiful views.
There is only one aspect of Katsuren Castle that surpasses its majestic panoramas, or the impressive fortifications, or the deep history that makes Katsuren Castle unique. There are no bus loads of noisy Chinese tourists.Shhhhh! Lets keep it that way!
My husband proposed to me here in 2017. This is a beautiful place! God is good.
This is a wonderful place to visit and admission is free. A bit of steep walking (if you are elderly). Map and walking sticks are available at the office.
Got there right as the sun set and it was beautiful! Parking is also super easy and spacious, and its really not that much of a walk uphill because of stairs and what not, but you can really get a feel do what people had to go through to attack this castle. :)
Smaller ruin castle. Took us about 35mins to run around and explore. Great sunset view... some of the steps can be slippery when its wet. Overall good sized place for kids to explore... just make sure you brief the children in advance not to climb over the walls for selfie. Can be dangerous.
Beautiful ruins and free to enter. We went as an afternoon trip. The plaques are in many different languages so you can go and read the significance of the ruins. The notes are stunning and definitely worth the short hike up.
Katsuren Castle 🏯. Beautiful castle on an excellent vantage point of the Pacific Ocean and Uruma. An UNESCO world heritage site. Free internet to stream the information that is provided. Also signs in English for explanation on different part of the castle. Admission is FREE.
Visited castle on a nice and sunny day. Conditions probably were picture perfect. Place is very well maintained. toilet, basic amenities are available at the parking area but only between office operation hours.
Nice, well kept castle ruins in Uruma. There are signs around the grounds that tell people what happened where and what some of the different spots at the castle were used for. There is also a QR code on the signage that did you access to a playlist that reads through the signs.
This castle gives you sweeping 360 views of okinawa! Must go up there at sunset and breathe/enjoy. A little walk up but not a problem at all!
Beautiful, well maintained ruins work postings in Japanese and English if youd like to learn more. Theres an electronic map but it was down when we went to visit. Quite the view! And not overly busy, which is a nice change of pace for a touristy spot. You can take your dog, too, as long as its leashed and you clean up after it. Nice family trip!
Like a park. It is a good place to learn the ancient history of Okinawa. Feeling good when standing at the peak.A car park is at its root and abundant of space available
Beautiful! I live about 10 mins from here, the panoramic views and history are breathtaking.
One of many castles ruins all over Okinawa Main Island. Nice view from up top.
There is bus stop in front of entrance of castle ruins. You can see the sea view. It is beautiful scenery view.
It’s really beautiful place! I have been ran 20 Miles from Camp Forster Legion Gate come here then ran back with my friends Feb 3, 2018. It’s worth ran this far away!... ...👍👍👍
This is a great place to spend an hour or two exploring. The grounds are immaculately maintained. The castle ruins are impressive. The views from atop the highest level of the castle are beautiful. It is really worth a visit, considering it is free. Along the path and throughout the grounds, visitors will find illustrated displays showing and explaining what the castle looked like and how each area functioned in its time. The trek is not too difficult but there are a lot of stairs and many of the climbs are on uneven rock.Note: Google Maps may guide you south of the ruins for parking. However, the parking area is on the north side of the castle ruins.
The new path to the top us much easier to step with our lyrics a few exceptions of slippery stone steps. Great on a cool day, and a good far view if you are familiar with the area.
My favorite castle in Okinawa with beautiful views of the Pacific Ocean & Hamahiga Island, Ikei Island, Tsuken Island, Yabuchi Island & Miyagi Island. A must if you’re visiting Okinawa!
Possibly my favourite of the castle ruins that I visited as it was free and offered some great views of the coast.
One of the smaller castles, but a great view. A must for Okinawa visitors.
Great castle with some great views of the island. Free entry and parking. Short hike to the top.
The castle has an amazing 360 view of the whole area. A most visit place.
