Just to update: showed up on a Wednesday in October 2022 and they wanted to charge my wife and I 30,000 shillings each.I was told the price by the ‘manager,’ who was just sitting outside with the guards in a plastic chair. The guy didn’t care whether we were a resident or a tourist. No idea about nowadays, but the place was still getting repaired from a 2010 fire damage in 2018, despite getting UNESCO money for repair. There was also a (less bad?fire in 2020: so if you go, expect to see construction work.

They wanted 40,000 entrance per person, even though it is free as the website clearly says. The tour was only 10 minutes and the guy who wanted our money said he would be the manager which is also ridiculous. DO NOT GO HERE! Worst tour ever!!!!!!!

At the moment it is not worth being called world heritage site. The two main constructions are covered as a result of being reconstructed. The one construction that can be visited is the drum house. It is so dark in there that you can hardly see anything. I was surprised to find out people were living in the houses on the site (relatives of the king). Behind a row of bushes there is a European looking cemetery with Christian and Muslim graves. All round the whole site was very untidy and 30.000 ugx was a bit steep.

Perfect placeKasubi Tombs in Kampala, Uganda, is the site of the burial grounds for four kabakas (kings of Bugandaand other members of the Baganda royal family. As a result, the site remains an important spiritual and political site for the Ganda people, as well as an important example of traditional architecture. It became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in December 2001,[1] when it was described as "one of the most remarkable buildings using purely vegetal materials in the entire region of sub-Saharan Africa".[2]Some of the major buildings there were almost completely destroyed by a fire in March 2010, the cause of which is under investigation. As a result, in July 2010 it was included in the list of World Heritage Sites in Danger.[3]The Buganda Kingdom has vowed to rebuild the tombs of their kings and President Museveni said the national government of Uganda would assist in the restoration of the site. Reconstruction started in 2014, funded by the government of Japan.[4]

No proper lay out, not properly maintained and poorly managed. Prices arent listed or clear. Greedy guards and guides looking to take advantage of tourists. They will try to charge your more than the actual cost and all without telling you the site is under construction. They hand you a book to look through instead. Couldve looked at the book from home. Completely disappointed by how they manage such a sacred piece of the countries history.

Yes its worth a visit. I traveled there on a boda and it was fine. A lot of history so make sure you get a guide. Some women and children live there, no men allowed to stay. Supposedly if a woman stays there she becomes the wife of the king until she leaves.

The tombs are one of the most historic places in Kampala. They are an expression of the kiganda culture and the way they respect their fallen kings. The tombs are a place to visit to know more about the Buganda culture and the kings of old. Its a burial place for the Buganda kings & a place that keeps their remains. These tombs have been renovated over time and have been improved to make the services better. The tombs have been polished to the present day & now are better to be visited by everyone from around the world.Having grown up in the neighborhood i never so much saw them as a place to see til i got to know more about them.

Magnificent, a must see for all tourist and citizens of Uganda.. if the palace hadnt it been destroyed would have provided in depth historical rendition of the resting Kings. Wish the current King can transform it into a living museum...

Funny and interesting to visit, but if you skip it you won’t have lost out on too much. It’s a small village where you learn about tribal traditions and see how kings and their wifes lived.

It is a world heritage site and was earmarked by UNESCO. It is where the remains of four of the former Buganda kingdom kings were buried. They include Muteesa II, Muwanga extra. The place is now under reconstruction after a fire that blazzed the place in 2010. The final stages of the project are on going and the site will be fully open to the public by April 2019. The Prime Minister (Katikirowas at the site to check on the progress of the work.

Lots of history. Couldnt see much of anything because it was being renovated. If you are going their and youre a woman please wear a dress or bring a cover up. In their culture women do not wear pants. Your guide was very nice and knowledgeable about the history of the fir kings and the present king and prince.

Great historical site to learn about the history of the Buganda people and their royal family. I visited 2 years ago, it is under some reconstruction as of this writing and I dont think its open to the public. Excited to see the improvements when it reopens.

Avoid this trap at all cost! The place has been under renovation for years due to a fire, but that doesnt stop some workers at the site from tricking visitors into entering for a "tour". This delightful visit includes looking at faded calendars with pictures of Buganda kings in dusty rooms, and viewing from afar what may have once been the tomb hall. The lies told to lure us in would have cost them their job in any normal country, but here they will obviously continue to snare the unsuspecting Muzungus. A shame that a UNESCO heritage site now looks like a pile of garbage run by crooks.
