Käsmu Maritime Museum - Maritime museum in Kohtla-Jarve, Estonia
So very interesting and interesting artifacts. Also open all day
Outstanding little treasure trove of a museum .
A very interesting place to know about sea, history of fishing! Huge collection of different things. The owner of this museum is a very charismatic man with a good sense of humour.
Lovely little museum, with a great owner who explains what are items used for and etc.
ok.
One of the most original maritime museums Ive ever seen - a good portion of the boats hang in mid-air! Quality and presentation over quantity - imore museums around the world shoulf follow the same pattern!
This is a place where the museum owner really lives so, walking here, you can see some things actually used by him mixed with museum exhibits. At a glance, everything looks messy but, looking into details, you can see a lot of interesting things. It is better to ask the owner more.
Unique museum. The people do live there. So you are walking through their living room. Different items with maritime theme.
Lovely place with lovely people
The smell when you walk in is unforgettable and to find out that the people who guide you around actually live in the museum makes it even more interesting. Our guide/hostess was cooking lunch in the kitchen. If you know what youre looking for you can give some interesting historic artifacts. The village and the museum have a wonderful ambiance!
very plentiful exposition with excellent guides
A beautiful house by the sea with an astonishing view and collection of maritime artifacts. The lovely owner, who also lives there, gave me a very broad overview of the towns history and the showcased items. I would definitely recommend to stop by and have a chat with her. She also gave some helpful tips on the local hiking trails and surrounding nature. 😌👌
It is certainly worth to visit and see..
Wonderful collection of regional lifestyle and Captain memorabilia
Wonderful place & museum host Aarne
Small cozy place. Must to visit in Käsmu.
Get the exotic flavour of culture and history
All cozy Maritime Museum in a beautiful location.
Not worth the admission fee, bunch of random old stuff lying around an old house. There were not any descriptions, not even in Estonian. If I knew it, I would have rather bought an ice-cream right across the street.
Very intetesting place.
Kapten village museoum with all the items what describes the local history. Personell can talk about repaired in colors.
Rustic and romantic atmosphere. Concert is a go!
Nice place
Quirky place but free to visit and right on the coast
Came as part of a tour day trip from Tallinn and I was really impressed with this little museum which is also a couples home! The salmon meal which was cooker for the tour was delicious and the museum and surrounding area was very interesting. Its not every day that you can say that youve climbed a Russian-Soviet Watchtower, but this is a brilliant place to rectify that!
Very nice and good for children
We came as part of a national park tour with traveler tours, and it was really interesting and fun to get a look at historic nautical aspects a lot of which while making perfect sense would never have crossed my mind. Aside from the museum itself, they have 2 adorable dogs that love attention and the view of the water from the back is spectacular.
Very personal touch. Had a supper for a big group here in the evening with freshly smoked salmon dish. Lovely

Must visit, when you happen to be near.
Small and cozy museum.
Very interesting and beautiful history museum.
Awesome place! Extreme hospitality from owners. Absolutely suggested.
Small maritime museum about an hour away from Tallinn. Well worth a visit. Lots of interesting items to see all set in a charming building. Admission was free and it was close to a small beach. Beautiful scenery all around. You can have a meal and refreshments here.
It was super fun
Historic place. We enjoyed.
Nice plaze with a peaceful view
Very friendly service
A must visit if you are around. Learn the story of the first estonian to sail around the world, Ahto Valter, who relates to Käsmu
Very friendly, beautiful doggy called Rosa. Curator/proprieter very friendly and helpful and informative. Beautiful collection!
Interesting place to visit, especially with the lunch option here. You get to eat with the couple who owns the place and enjoy the meal with other guests. They usually provide salmon and dessert. Recommend!
Quirky place to visit. Not much was explained in English but its a cool place to look around. A lot of paintings and really old photos. They also serve lunch at 2pm which includes pet tasty salmon but reservations are required a day ahead.
Beautiful place!
Amazing place! Very nicely preserved house with billions of artefacts. A MUST see!
Really interesting stuff, its worth stopping there for a while to check the fishermen and sailors equipment. Visiting this museum shouldnt take more than 30 minuets, the whole stuff is not described in English.
Nice location and kind service, good food. Did not really checked the exhibition :)
Very nice place a lot to see.
Great little museum. Käsmu is a nice little holiday town with some beautiful houses. The museum is very quaint and shows the history of the sea captain school and the shipping background of the area. There is plenty to see inside with lovely and knowledgeable staff.Outside theres the old lighthouse and some cool old buildings and a viewing platform.Outdoor seating in old boats and picnic areas with fire pits are available too.
Käsmu is well-known village of ship-builders from the beginning of 20th century. Seamuseum fits well into Käsmu and is well-maintained.Also, museum area is used to organize concerts.
Its a nice museum and I saw a pretty lovely dog, and liked it
