HISTORY NEVER TAUGHT IN SCHOOL: WHO DESIGNED LAKE KARIBA?Kariba Dam was designed by the French engineer and inventor Andre Coyne. A specialist in “arch dams”, he personally designed over 55 dams, Kariba being one of them. Lake Kariba is the largest man made lake in Africa. It is a source of power for two countries; Zambia and Zimbabwe.
MoreFound constructions going on but it was still a great experience. The views are marvelous.
MoreKariba dam is awesome... The boat cruising, tiger fishing etc .. The magnificent dam wall is a a must see... #Nyaminyami
MoreThe Kariba Dam, a double curvature concrete arch dam in the Kariba Gorge of the Zambezi river basin between Zambia and Zimbabwe. A beautiful place to visit for some air and experience great architecture designed by the French engineer and inventor Andre Coyne.
MoreTwas amazing to drive down & see the dam but even more amazing to look at the 25 -30 meters dam wall..
MoreIt was superb but the heat just needs a Zambezi.
Zimbabwe has made it easy to get a pass and enjoy the views of the dam. HUSTLE FREE. The engineering is art. As much as the water levels are low, its still a beautiful view of the valley
MoreIts our main source of power in the country, so I cant say anything bad about it 😂😂 but its generally a beautiful site
MoreKariba Dam is the worlds biggest dam based on water storage capacity. Located at the former Kariwa (KaribaGorge, the dam creates Lake Kariba, which has a storage capacity of 185 billion cubic metres of water and a surface area of 5,580km2

MoreIt is beautiful the work that can be done by men😊
The place is quit good and the environment is okay I really enjoyed with my friend ...I think next month am coming again for a better views of the lake ..
MoreOne of the largest man made civil infrastructure. A spectacular view of engineering of a dam wall holding huge mass of water. A great place to see whether crossing the border or as a holiday destination. Several water activities are offered with the sunset cruise as one never to miss. The drive to the heights gives one the view of the dam as well as the town. Elephants are normally seen around the location or near the human settlements. There is a fish farm as well as a crocodile farm all within 30 minutes drive. There are a number of lodges that are overlooking the dam. Great place to see and better of to stay for a holiday.
MoreIt was a refreshing experience and the place is worth visiting
Great engineering displayed here, holding back the worlds largest man-made lake, Lake Kariba. The valley below the dam wall is a spectacular view.
MoreThe largest man made water lake in the world located on the Zambezi River. Beautiful Civil Engineering structure
MoreVery strong Small dam that forms the mighty Lake Kariba.
An exciting visit to this man made wonder. An extraordinary and breath taking experience as we witnessed one of the largest man made dam walls in the world. It sits on the border of Zambia and Zimbabwe and is both Countries number one generator of electric power. After the rain season ends which occurs between the end of October and the end of March when the water levels in the dam are filled to the brim, the Kariba North Bank Company which manages the dam and power plant opens up the spill-way gates to create one of the must see scenes of water cascading down into the lower gorge.
MoreIt was such a reminder of what can be achieved when people put their minds together. Built in 1959, the dam continues to meet a significant portion of both Zimbabwe and Zambias electricity needs. We spoke to a guy who has been working there for 30 years and it was great to get a bit more insight on the workings of the dam
MoreThe Dam is massive, i love the complexity of engineering that took place for the dam to be erected. The environment will leave you feeling fresh and connected to nature more especially on the Zambian side just before the bridge. The place is safe and quite sometimes wild animals such as baboons and monkeys are found, having food staffs such a bread can proof to be unsafe. The lower part of the dam is heavily colonised with crocodiles please do not go there. otherwise its a good place to be...
MoreThe view of the splashing waters from Zambian side of the dam was just so nice. The lake was also clearly visible from this angle. It is also free to cross from the Zimbabwean broader into the Zambian side hence no passport is required for such a splendid moment .
