Karam Restaurant - Pakistani restaurant in Schenectady, United States
This place may not seem like much from the outside, but the food is extraordinary!! The chicken tika masala is amazing and the naan is perfectly cooked! Try the cilantro chutney too! It goes amazingly with the naan and the rice.
Do yourself a favor and order takeout from here! The food is perfect, the portions are large, and the man behind the counter is so sweet. The restaurant is suited more for takeout than dining in. After trying it for the first time tonight, this is now my top choice in the 518 for Indian food. Delicious!
Always nice people and service
I don’t generally comment but the food was excellent. Spice level is mild and the naan is probable one of the best I had in US.
Great service and yummy fresh food.
Good
Food was tasty. Staff was friendly. Doesnt offer a spot for eating there, but perfect if you want take-out. Prices were fair and we all enjoyed our food.
Best Indian food in the district
Great Indian food with large portions. Ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and some Naan. It was delicious.
Rude and food quality sucks.
FANTASTIC food, really kind and accommodating chefs! We would highly recommend this place to everyone!
Good store but i am really unhappy for meat staff behaviour
Food was good
Excellent food. Friendly staff. Love getting take out from here!
All I can say this is best indian food i tasted i went to alot of restaurants but karam is best they just cook right there for u if u like your food mild or spicy they made it to your liking .best of all great price
The food was absolutely delicious and was made fresh. Even the naan was cooked as we watched. They were very helpful and kind, and made sure that we ordered the right amount of food, without pushing more.
The food here is AMAZING!!! We just received our order and I cant get enough!! This is the second time we ordered from them this week! Absolutely delicious! Thanks so much.
This is one of my spots. Whenever Im in town, I stop by. The staff is friendly. Store is well maintained and clean. The restaurant is remarkable. The food is great. I recommend getting dinner for the family here, whether in restaurant or picking up fresh meat cuts.Convenient shopping. Nice people. Great Prices. Atm inside. Decent amount of parking. Located along bus line.
Friendly and polite.
This place is delicious, every single thing Ive gotten is fantastic. The chef special naan is out of this world. The attached grocery store has a good variety of items and everyone is super friendly.
Best place if you looking for authentic Indian or Pakistani Food. Best food in town
Looking for authentic Indian food for a great price? This is by far my favorite food and perhaps the best Indian food available. Been to many other restaurants but none other have the same level of quality in food, service, and authenticity. Very rich flavorful food. Several vegetarian options. The people who work there are hard working and make a perfect dish every time. This is a must for anyone interested in trying Indian food
First time ordering and loved it. Delicious food and affordable prices for basics like samosas and naan. Cant wait to come back
This definitely tasted more like Indian food than Pakistani food. It was still delicious and the portions were generous. The prices are reasonable and the employee was incredibly kind. The food was freshly made (you can see them making it when you pick up the food).Order food: chicken curry (not chicken tikka), naan, and 1/2 tandoori chicken.
Went for the first time today. The staff behind the counter were so friendly and cheerful. Got chicken tikka masala and garlic naan. Probably the best tikka masala I’ve ever had. My fiancé said the same when he kept eating mine haha. Chicken was cooked perfectly and the size of the pieces were a little on the smaller size, which is how I prefer it, and you got a lot of it in the sauce. Naan was warm and fluffy. Got quite a bit of food for the price. I couldn’t come close to finishing it. Can’t wait to go back and try other dishes.
Very tasty halal food. The staffs are also very friendly.
Excellent food,very delicious
Chef Ali and Raj are back!Delicious plant-based and meat selections. Fantastic and friendly. Love their food.
The employees were very respectful and sweet. Lovely hospitality. Reminded me of the Bronx and made me miss back home!!
Location is average. Small shop on the side.5 Stars before change in management 2019Before 2019: Food was of the highest quality and best in the Capital Region for Middle Eastern culture. Price was reflective, and price was equal to value. Chicken Tikka Masala was top notch, authentic, high volume and well made. Special Naan is original and full of taste. All items are fresh and made with experience and knowledge of industry.Staff was friendly and courteous. If you do anything in the Capital Region, go here for a taste of true authentic food.(Updated fall of 2019This review has been changed from 5 star to 3 star due to change in ownership and cooks. I now receive half the size of portions for food orders and customer service is not equal to prior management. I have stopped going here since it’s price to value ratio is too high.)
Food was good but a little overpriced for the quantity you get
This is a place to buy food but although we were told you could eat there, you cant theres no place for people to eat. They had an interesting Indian food items to buy and take home and cook.
Ordered biryani and it was not worth 9.99, rice was of cheap quality and chicken tasted old, the kabab was not fresh atall and old , would only go for naan maybe if fresh and not burnt
Great food, clean setting. A hidden gem indeed,
Most authentic food! The restaurant is a true hidden gem. They don’t skimp on anything and the food is sooo delicious... best portion for price in the area.
I put in an order for food for 300 people and paid in advance $1,600. I checked in on the order several times to make sure they knew there needed to be enough for 300 people. On the night of the event, they delivered only a few trays, barely enough for 25 people. We tried to contact them at the time but there was no answer. As a result, 30 pizzas had to be ordered. This was extremely embarrassing and inconvenient as this food was for people breaking their Ramadan fast. When contacted the next day, Karam said they provided enough food for 300 people! They have lost our trust and please think twice before ordering from them.
Always good.
Best naan in the town
Amazing service, super afordable for the huge portions you get. The people were super kind and helpful!
Tasty like compare to India best
Very nice Indian restaurant in Schenectady connected with the Indian store next door. There is a couple of tables inside, but its more practical to order take-out, shop the store while the food is getting ready, and eat at home. We have ordered Tandoori mix (Reshmi+Tikka+Sheesh Kebab+Chickenand Chicken Curry and were very happy. The taste would rival top-notch Karavalli in Latham and Spicy Mint on Wolf Road for a fraction of the price with a caveat that Karam is a hole-in-the-wall type of arrangement where you get the food and eat it elsewhere.
Absolutely delicious! Great customer service
Friendly staff, great food, huge portions! I will be eating this lamb biryani for DAYS!!
Love love love! So good, so cheap! The guys behind the counter are sweethearts, and it’s so neat to watch the naan get made. New favorite take-out place!
Great food at better than great pricing....
Amazing food in this hidden gem at cant beat prices.
Best Indian food in the capital district!
If I could give this place 6 stars, I would. Get ready for a long review...It may be that since I expanded my palate into Indian subcontinental cuisine at Sitar in Colonie close to two decades ago, thats the way I think that food is supposed to taste. Sure, Shalimar, Karavalli, Aashiana, Lazeez, etc. all have tasty dishes, but theyre not quite at the level of what Sitar offered. Ok, why am I discussing Sitar? Well, Munna and Raj run the Karam Restaurant. Those guys were the chefs at Sitar (and later at Zaika). If you were in distress like I was about never being able to taste those amazing dishes once Sitar (and earlier Zaikaclosed, you can relax. Its just as good as it was at Sitar! Better yet, since youre ordering directly from the chefs, you can get things customized to your taste. Like spicy (or not)? You can get spicy (or not). Dont like something in an otherwise awesome dish? Theyll happily modify an ingredient for you.The restaurant entrance is on the side of the building on Willow, not the grocery store entrance on State. Look for the red awning with handwriting on it. Street parking was readily available on Willow. It is primarily a takeout place, but there are a few tables and chairs for those who wish to eat there. A group of 4 would fit comfortably. A group of 8 would need to use every chair in the place and possibly sit in two groups on either side of a doorway. The prices are so low compared to those at Sitar and Zaika that everything seems to be a la carte. If you want sauces with samosas, youll have to ask for them. If you want rice with your entree, youll have to ask for it. I really dont mind doing this since I end up paying for exactly what I want rather than overpaying for a dish to have things come with it that I may not want to eat.Dont limit yourself to the printed menu. Many things that were offered at Sitar and Zaika are available. Just ask for them. For instance, some of my favorites like Malai Kofta, Palak Panner, Mattar Panner, and Reshmi Masala are absolutely available.Regardless of what the posted hours say, theyre closed every Tuesday and dont expect them to stay open right up until 10pm if it isnt busy on other days. Also expect them to close by 8pm during Ramadan (April/May).Shout out to Sonny, the former Sitar manager and Zaika owner, who is a manager at Delmonicos these days. Go visit him there when youre in the mood for steak and whatever else they offer and thank him for recommending that people try Karam if they miss the Sitar and Zaika flavors!
Perfect Food, it was missing a little something & the Samosa couldve been done better but everything was Delicious more then I Comprehendedso Overall just a Pleasurable Experience!
Fantastic tasting food. Good portion sizes and moderatively priced.
