Kaole Ruins - Historical place in Kilindoni, Tanzania
Great place to learn about the history of the Tanganyika people. Bagamoyo is generally a place rich on history. The private tour guide wasnt so helpful but we paid her anyway and she was able to tell us about the history of the place. I would recommend you pay a tour guide (about $5for them to walk you through. They may struggle with English but at least they tried. The best insight we got was the lovers rock. Its believed if you touch it, love will come to you.
Must visit for every individual to get lifetime experience

The better place, more activities
Lovers of history and ancient culture will certainly enjoy the tour. Question is, how do buildings from the 13th century survive with such primitive construction tech but new builds from a few decades ago collapse so often?
Lots of historic artifacts with rich ancient culture. It hosts many wonderful ruins of the historic slave and Ivory trade. These include the tombs, the magic water hole, the mangrove, the baobab tree among others.

This place is about the history of Tanzania before western colonization. The history of the arrival of Islam to Tanzania in about the 13th century.Although not as much information is available about the site as one would like, it is still a worthwhile visit.
Bagamoto historical site....worth a visit...Kaole ruins is a small town and archaeological site located three miles east of Bagamoyo . The area contains old stone ruins dating to a period between the 13th century and the 16th century. The ruins date back to the 13th century and consist of two mosques one of 13th century and ither of 15th century around 22 tombs. The tombs at Kaole were built from coral stones with stone pillars that marked some of the tombs. According to local tradition, some of the tombs are the graves of local rulers..one of the grave is believed to be the descendants of the Sheikh Ali jumaan arguably the most well known Sheikh along the coast.Other tomb is for girl called shariffa who had karma power and knowledgeableAlso theres lovers tomb who were burried together

A good place to bond with the past
Ancient ruins. Worth a one time visit for historic reasons.
The place is historical and interesting.. Useful for studies.
Im not a big fan of using guides usually, but here you definitely need it as explanation boards are scarce. The guides are trying hard, but additional questions are a bit of a problem though. Its a wonderful site with great history and its really tried to have it arranged (yet falling apart here and there). Entrance fee for foreigners (20000tshand EA residents (10000tshis relatively high.
The ruins are good but the mangroves and the baobab trees are even better! Getting a guide is highly recommended.
