Kansas City West / Lawrence KOA - in Lawrence, United States
Year round accommodations in a region not well equipped with campgrounds that accommodate big rigs. We’ve stayed here in winter, summer and, now the fall. Very friendly staff. Sites are not huge, most have shared green space with your neighbor. Plenty of overflow vehicle parking for those with a towed vehicle or with a long rig like us. Kansas Turnpike and busy rail tracks are within hearing distance, so this isn’t the quietest place, but it is our standard stop when visiting family in the area
Site 11B.. I think, Nice site. Patio table, fire pit., dog park We are 42 and held us nice. Not 5 star because long term tenants were junky.
Nice, well kept campground, but a little tight for a big rig towing. Trees blocked our satellite tv, but the shade was nice
Its on a small size, but its very nice. Trains do go by at night so be aware of that. However over all i recommend it, especially if your goal is explore and not stay in camp the whole time.I would rate it higher but Ive been to Williams or the holiday in Wisconsin which are much superior.
Great camp staff was friendly, only problem I had and would recommend to other travelers avoid cabin 5A, very hot, AC to small for cabin and will not cool it. No shade over cabin like other cabins - and excessive heat comes though west side window. Cabin temperature during day with AC running near 100 degree in side. Other than that place was super relaxing for me. Note in a distance you will hear the train but it was not all that bad and did bothered me. Office was great and offered ear plugs to those that thought they may need it. Like say you will hear sometimes but track is wui
Tried to reserve cabin in Topeka but they were booked so rented cabin here. Think turned out for the best. Will be going back.
We are full time Rv folks and enjoyed our stay! Fun town too, we will be back next year!
I had my RV parked in the storage facility and my husband had put a Trump dollar bill in the window and he was approached by a member of staff and told that it could not be in the window of the RV that was in storage. This was not some huge sign it was literally the size of a dollar bill. This place should be renamed the KOCKampground Of CommunismDefinitely not America first here. You will be under the watchful eye of " big brother" and his sister "Karen" if you opt to stay here.
We stayed one night. This was our 4th KOA stop on a 30 day rv adventure. Very nice place and the staff was very pleasant and friendly. We would definitely stay here again.
Beware. My wife and daughter had wallets, bags and jewelry stolen. Never coming back.
Clean facilities, nice camping areas. Friendly staff. Playgrounds for kids, and a nice pool.
All of the people that work at this KOA are the nicest, most helpful and knowledgeable people that we have ever met working at a campground.
Cleanest bathrooms yet! I love this place & my dog, Babushka, highly recommends visiting here with your fur babies. They even have their own play yard!
Visited friends. Lots of trees and grass and childrens play area - even little cabins. And bunnies! Much quieter than I expected.
Ive no clue why theres a campground in this weird spot... in Kansas. But then Im mystified that theres anything in Kansas...on purpose. The closest water to this KOA was the frozen canoe rental kiosk(yumm! Frozen canoes). In fact, the sites own promo literature boasts of the mostly-for-show cabin plumbing. Those cabins ARE pretty cute from the outside. Lord only knows what weird dry-land canoeing folks are up to INSIDE them though. My overall impression of the place is one of Uhm, Theres just something not quite right about the .... the, ummm... the any part of this enterprise. So, yah, ...no. no & yes please.
A very well kept park, assistant manager was very personable, polite, willing to take the time to answer our questions. We were just sorry they didnt have any more openings for workampers.
This is a great campground! Its clean and well maintained. The staff are friendly. We have stayed here several times in the cabins. Always a great experience. Family members have also stayed here and enjoyed their time here.
TL;DR Great staff, nice place, but some cons...Staff was great, and bathrooms were clean. Some of the tent sites were in what looked like a previously flooded area. Roots, branches, and other debris all over. Tire ruts going across the site. Didnt think much of it until the 5% chance of rain became 80%, and we got some rain. Clean up in the morning was fun. Glad I thought ahead and put a tarp down. Glad I had garbage bags for the tarp because it was a muddy mess. No water near the tent spots either. Glad I read other reviews, and brought my own. Noise from highway, trains, and planes could be an issue for some.
We love this KOA for a short getaway for our family. We love all the play equipment- the zip line especially. Staff are very nice and we have had great experiences here. We especially loved the egg hunt last weekend—thank you!!If you’re into it, Mass St is super close!
The people are very nice. The play area, zip line are cool. I think the zip line seat should be replaced. The rv spots are pretty tight together. The bathrooms were clean. They also have a laundry room. Fenced doggy area. Horse shoes.
Wow, the staff are wonderful. And facilitys is very clean with room to say Hi to other camper. Pet friendly. Nice location.
We stopped for just one night but it was great, very clean and warm restrooms with hot shower, great laundry room. Easy late check in, I would recommend!
This was our first time staying in an RV that we had just purchased 15 minutes prior to our arrival. The spot was tiny, but the service was good. We were able to purchase the items that our used RV was lacking to properly hook up to the water and sewer systems, which we were so thankful for. It is near trains, so they supplied us earplugs, but we didnt need them as they were not too close.
Good for an overnight.Fit our 53 truck n 5th wheel nicely. But it wasnt much of a site beyond that. Its near the airport, you get to hear trains all night n day and theres some sort of production machinery that runs constantly. It was really wet due to heavy rains.Moderate price
Easy access off the highway. Clean bathrooms. Lots of cobwebs around my camping cabin though. And whatever chemical was used to clean the cabin was pretty overwhelming -- I had a headache the next day.
Very clean KOA. Hosts were extra nice and friendly. We enjoyed hearing the train whistle. Definitely not too loud! Kids play areas were very nice. Our spot - electric only - was level and easy to get in to.
My family and I love this campground! The boys were on the zip line before wed even gotten the camper situated ha They also loved the pedal cars. Nice site, clean shower. Hope to be back!
We had to rush back to California from Virginia due to a family crisis. We called late on a Sunday afternoon and Jackie was so nice to call me back! They got us right in and also let us order a pizza right when they were closing their kitchen! They delivered right to our site….AND the pizza was delicious! Great people!
The problem is we booked the ONLY back in patio site in the park and we payed extra for it but when we arrived they had given it to someone else. They told me all patio sites are the same but this costs more due to the larger yard space and it being next to the dog park but they reserve the right to move people wherever they want. All well and good if the sites were actually of same value but they arent. The only reason we went this weekend instead of the one before was because the website said that the back-in site was available. This is not the first time weve been promised a specific site and had it taken away at this campground.
While I dont think some of the recent reviews are very fair, this KOA didnt really impress me. It is a small rural campground and if youre needing a place to camp for a night or two itll do in a pinch. The staff were friendly and nice. The grounds had a few playgrounds, a small very warm pool without any chairs, a zipline, a few disc golf nets, and a tiny fenced in dog area. Not much else. They obviously cater more to the RV crowd because I had more problems finding food in their store then RV accessories. Just a suggestion, let the RV crowd go to Walmart to get that stuff and put food in your store. The cabin we rented was nice but in need of maintenance and regular cleaning. The microwave was dirty, the floors covered in sand, the bathroom faucet was missing a spigot piece causing water to spray everywhere if you turned it on too high. The Wi-Fi was terribly slow if it worked and we had no cell signal. There were freight trains running about a mile away and they DID warn us beforehand and even offered ear plugs should we need them. In our cabin with the AC going I never even heard them, but in a tent Id imagine itd be terrible. I would recommend the KOA east of Kansas City over this one, especially considering they were both the same price.
Good place to stay. Easy access from the highway. Pretty, well-kept park with adequate bathrooms, a dog run, playgrounds, and a pool. Nice views of farmland. If you are bothered by highway or train noise, this might not be the place for you, but it did not bother us.
Close to i70, mostly overnighters. We stayed two weeks, but had lots of overnighters next to us coming and goimg.. Wish they would have put us in an end spot.Needs upgrading, very muddy when it going. It was hard to believe you couldnt get a pizza after 5 pm!
The hosts and grounds were very nice and well maintained. The bath house was close and clean. The showers are very small spaces so be prepared for that. But nice overall. We would stay here again!
We stayed in the basic cabin and it was clean and nice. The AC worked just fine. We had our own linens and blankets. The showers and toilets were very clean and nice. We were able to cook our dinner, we could have had a campfire if we wanted. We had our dogs with us and it was nice and all dogs were on leash so my little dogs were safe. The playgrounds and pool looked fun and well maintained.
Just arrived today will be here for 5 nights. We love it here. Clean, friendly and a nice dog park and childrens play area.
Nice place for an overnight stay. We will be staying here again as we travel around. $34/night, full hookups, pull thru gravel sites. Friendly, helpful staff.
This was a great KOA and they were really helpful with getting us in a nice site for a night. The bathrooms were really clean and kept up well. The only issue was its kind of close to a road so you can hear cars but you also hear a train horn every few hours throughout the night. That did keep us up. Otherwise, a good spot.
Love the location and its proximity to Downtown Lawrence. The management is top notch and very accommodating! Laundry room is always clean! We will definitely be back! We stayed for almost 3 weeks.
Not the best. If you are stopping from the interstate overnight, then it would be ok. We scheduled for two nights and received the first spot out of four. We were on the corner at the bottom of a hill, no shade. Other campers came in and were given the next slots, which were better suited for a multi-night stay. Grateful we brought our shelter, which gave us shade. If we didnt have it, we would have left after the first night. Noise from the interstate and train will wake you. Not blaming them for that. Clean bathrooms were a plus.
This was a great campground to go to. The night was about $60, for full hookup rv camp site. The staff here were very friendly and make sure that we were happy with our stay. The restrooms and showers were very nice. Family enjoyed our stay here.
After clearing it with the manager, we were able to stay overnight in our Tesla while charging, letting us continue on our journey across Kansas without a worry! Very well kept grounds, clean bathroom, and helpful staff. We felt quite secure.
I have stayed here a second time, this time for 37 days - this is the best KOA we have stayed in. I am amazed at the hard work and friendliness of the staff. A special shout out to the man who kept the grounds mowed and beautiful in spite of all the rain. And thanks to all of you for all the times you extended our stay and kept us in the same spot. This campground is not in a pretty setting, but we had a great time. Staff is responsive to questions and issues. All is clean. Nice store, great laundry. 6 washers and dryers meant I never had to wait my turn. Friends visited us and stayed in one of that cabins which was clean and had everything they needed. Good sized dog run. Your dog can actually run! We took the RV away for a day for service, left a bunch of stuff there and no one bothered it.
Level gravel sites, some grass and trees between, easy access to I-70, but not right next to it. The lawns were mowed religiously. We had to extend our stay twice and the staff were very helpful arranging us to stay in place. Cable provided, pretty good water pressure.
I booked this campground for 2 days over the fourth of July while on a road trip from AZ to MI and back again. We booked a basic cabin (no restroom, but with a fridge, microwave, and A/Cnext to the playground, but too far away from the restrooms. This was a disaster considering I was sick all night and had to keep trekking from our cabin to the restrooms while carrying the tiny garbage can. The restrooms and shower rooms inside are clean, but not very private since they are located next to the store, office, laundry, and arcade. While not great for me, it was fun for the kids since the price includes the jumping pillow, playground, basketball court, shuffle board, tether ball, and pool.
We loved the cabin rental! (2 bedrooms, a loft, 1 full bath, and kitchenetteI love the clean, natural wood inside the cabin. The deck, grill, fire pit, and picknick table right in front of the cabin is such a great setup for family get-togethers. The kids loved the pool, recumbent bikes, horseshoe pits, and mini zip line. Its a fun, safe environment for kids.
1. Pool- clean, never busy, umbrella tables, tons of reclining chairs, attentive staff keeping area clean. Only downside is there is no shade (unless you are at the umbrella table (there are 2)2. Playgrounds- great! There are 2 and the bigger one has a zip line that the children loved.3. Office+staff- the office has a very large selection of clothing, RV and camping supplies, snacks, pizza, ice cream, laundry supplies and souvenirs. The staff was super over the top kind and helpful with saving us money and being accommodating. The only downside is the staff is clearly overworked and underpaid. I picked up on it right away and later heard some disgruntled staff members talking that were overwhelmed, and mentioned ‘they get paid minimum wage to be overworked’. But they still maintained professionalism with customers and had smiles on.4. Campsites-this area is by a train track, airport, and creek. So if you are staying near the dog park, be prepared to smell the creek, the air to be muggy, and to hear trains. We have loud kids so none of this bugged us much. But for some, it could be very frustrating. We stayed at sites 36 and 57. The sites were on the smaller side, but were clean and came with a round metal table and 4 chairs.5. Activities for kids- they had a movie night in the park and do other things for kids which was a cute added bonus.6. Arcade- sadly, this was the only realletdown of our trip. All but 2 games were broken. Those 2 kept eating our money and when the kids would win a toy, it would only give it to them half the time. The KOA doesn’t own the games so if you have issues you have to contact the company that does (and they don’t respond to you or care to come fix issues-obviously). Hopefully this get addressed so because the kids would have loved it!7. Panning/mining- cute, but small and isn’t restocked often8. Bathrooms-clean, have everything you need, but are small small showers with weak water pressure.9. Laundry- lastly, the laundry room is AMAZING. Don’t use washer #1, but other than that it is cheap and the dryers dry SO fast and are huge. I did 3 loads of laundry in 45 minutes! Pretty rad.Overall we had a good time and would still return despite the flaws. Giving it 4/5 stars.
Stayed here our last night of a 10 day trip to Colorado on our way back to Illinois. Nice park with level pull through sites. We didnt arrive until after the office closed, but our paper work with site number was in a box outside the office. Many families camping and little ones around. We would stay again. Easy in, easy out.
The staff were friendly and the facilities were in good shape although the showers were slow to drain in both the mens and womens restrooms. If you are a light sleeper be aware this campground is very close to a very busy railroad crossing and the trains came through about every 20 minutes or so. Other than that the grounds were in good shape and we enjoyed our stay.
Just stayed over the weekend of August 4th. This was our 1st stay here. The sites were level, but extremely close together. If we had planned our weekend more in advance I would have booked one of the larger patio sites. We typically stay at sites around the lake so we are use to a lot of space between campers. We still enjoyed our weekend as it was a surprise end of summer weekend for our kids. The jumping pillow has a hole which was as HUGE disappointment to our 6 y/o. I was told by a staff member they dont plan on fixing it, but replacing it with something different. The playground equipment is a bit out dated, but kids dont care about that. Zip line was a lot of fun and the pool was nice and clean. We will stay again but probably only if we are able to get one of the larger sites. For the price of 3 days here we could have stayed at the lake for a week. But I understand you pay for the amenities (sewer, cable, kids activities). Our kids loved doing the kids activities and are definitely ready to go back.
We had a wonderful stay at the KC Jellystone campground. The first thing we noticed was how clean and manicured the grounds were. The management and staff were awesome and always friendly. Our accommodations were excellent. We stayed in one of the cottages, which was a good fit for my family. Our cottage was very nice, clean and cozy. I would definitely come back to this place again.
