Kang's Korean Restaurant in Ann Arbor
Description
Privilege
Kangs is a tiny little restaurant right near the South U intersection but packs a punch. I got to know about this from a Korean friend and I must say that I was surprised. The food tastes good, the service is fast, and the price is very reasonable. I always end up here for a comfort food option that looks simple, healthy, and fills me up.
MoreA good solid institution that has been part of the life and fabric of Ann Arbor for a long, long time. Well made, authentic Korean food with no unnecessary bells and whistles. They also make some of their dishes such as the kimchi stew with a vegetarian broth so that vegetarians can feel at home here too and it’s equally tasty. There are occasionally new items in the menu so it pays to go in and order and ask.
MoreGreat food. Will go there again.
Authentic Korean home cooked food. The kimchi pancakes are excellent
Super tasty kalbi! Great prices and fast service.
Very delicious food. Only *ONE* issue there was like barley any seafood in any of the dishes.... its like when the price of seafood doubled they took out more than half of the seafood in the dishes... this makes me very sad. Great customer service though. For example my soup dish only had 2 or 3 pieces of squid in it.. tons of tofu. You can get the idea from what I am saying.
MoreFood was delicious, the portions were big, and my group was happy we made the stop
MoreGot the bulgogi and it was soooo good
Great service and food. Spicy shrimp and tofu was great and Soon Tofu Jigae was amazing!
MoreReal korean food , great flavors delicious ramen, Bimbimbob delicious, duk man du so deliciousUpdateWatch out with the women who is the cashier it’s in a really bad mood. We wanted to eat there and some people offer their table(a party of twobut she refused to switch them to a small table. She was very rude to us. We love going there but we are not going back when she is there
MoreSuper delicious!!! The food always hits the spot and comes out promptly. The service is always kind and quick! One of my favorite restaurants in Ann Arbor!
MoreThe food was AMAZING!! And the staff was very nice too!!
Their bibimbap is on the next level!! Amazing Korean food and friendly service!
my fav bibimbap in aa c:
Had a bad diarrhea after lunch. Not gonna miss it after I leave Ann Arbor
Food is delicious. Very affordable. I ordered Samsun Jjamppong and Beef Stone Pot Bibimbop. The noodle had lots of seafood and some spicy pork on top. The broth was very squid forward so if you like 오징어짬뽕, youll love it. Bibimbop was very hearty and nice, too. Ill come again.
MoreOnly got half of my order. I live in Ohio so the ride was too far to go back and get it fixed. My son said his food is amazing.
MoreStaffs are very friendly. I will rate this store for the best Korean food in AA. Food is very tasty.
MoreThis place is one of my all time favorites when visiting Ann Arbor!! Their food Id always great. Their pot stickers are the best snack and they have one of the best kimchi
MoreThis is my favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor! I’ve been coming here since I was a kid, and it remains one of my favorite places to eat anywhere. The understated ambience lets the food shine. My personal favorites are the kimchi and budae jigae, but you can’t go wrong no matter what you order. The staff is friendly and everything is made fresh. The portions are large, too! Highly recommend!
MoreTheir Jjampong is the best in town. Havent been to all the Korean restaurants in A2 but this place is by far the most authentic one.
MoreGreat soup, excellent bean sprouts, phenomenal chili paste. You just can’t go wrong with this place.
MoreUpdate: got in recently and ordered the bulgogi, it had excellent flavors and was more food than I could finish.Call ahead, google isn’t updated if they’re open or not. Sounds like their in tough times with employees. Ive heard good things about their food but when I went to eat there a sign on the door said closed. Ill definitely try the food when I get a chance.
Moregreat korean food with reasonable prices. super fast service, too. definitely would come by again if we’re ever in town again
MoreVery nice very clean I love the atmosphere. Next time I go to this area I will be stopping here. If shrimp is awesome especially if its spicy.
MoreI love thus little restaurant. The entire menu is great, but the rich gal bi is the best. The smell of them grilling in front of you is awesome.
MoreGood food, but they aren’t very consistent in being open when they’re supposed to be. They are closed random days through out the week when the web states that they’re open. Makes me worried workers could be getting sick with Covid and makes me not want to eat here as often with possible sick workers. Can’t think of any other reason they would be closed on all these random days.To your FIRST response that you changed & deleted : That wasn’t a very professional response. I just feel as though a PROFESSIONAL business would have all those kinks that you described taken care of. As you stated before school is back on which means I’m sure there are plenty of students looking for employment! Sounds like you need more employees to me.& Are you guys really foolish enough to think because you’re vaccinated you still can’t catch COVID? Please do more research because you’re CLEARLY uneducated about the vaccine. It protects YOU from feeling sick or possibly dying from COVID, but YOU CAN STILL CARRY THE VIRUS & PASS IT ALONG TO OTHERS!But yeah you could’ve saved that response because it just sounded like a bunch of excuses to me. I’ve very mindful of the food industry ACTUALLY because I grew up as server in the restaurant industry, so I’m aware of how things should be PROFESSIONALLY ran. ThanksSIDE NOTE: This business changed their response back to me because the first response they gave was full of excuses LOL so professional. & nobody is about to take the time to look at those articles. As I stated before HIRE SOME OF THESE U OF M STUDENTS LOOKING FOR EMPLOYMENT!!!! Never once seen a “hiring” sign up.. do better.
MoreAmazing food! The pricing is not as bad as some of the other Korean restaurants i have been to! I ordered the Bulgogi, kalbi, and spicy chicken and all are phenomenal! The kimchi is not as good(no spice at allbut the bean sprouts are awesome!! Highly recommend this place if you are looking to try some korean food or a new korean restaurant!
MoreGood prices and tasty food. Ordered yook gae jang (spicy beef stew with veggies and egg- ordered the ramen option, but lady must not have heard me correctly, because it didnt have any ramen noodles. Strangely, I couldnt find any beef, either, nor the traditional glass noodles, but plenty of veggies. Nonetheless, the broth was very flavorful, so it should be more of a 3.5 star restaurant. Hopefully this was a one off mistake. Would return for a second shot.
MoreAll of my coworkers loves this place! Personally I love the seafood pancakes and bibimbap here! It is a pretty small restaurant, but the food is always worth it.
MoreFirst time here. Great food and service! Will definitely come again and encourage others to try. Only negative thing is theres only 3 tables for dine in and no outside seating.
MoreThis place has become my favorite Korean restaurant in Ann Arbor! I have since moved out of the city and Ill be missing Kangs a lot. My go-to meals were the soondubu, yukgaejang, and cheese rabokki. Ive tried soondubu from a few other restaurants in the area and Kangs was always the best!Whether it was for dine-in or take-out, Kangs never disappointed. Ill definitely be back when in the Ann Arbor area!!
MoreHad spicy squid. Good taste and great service.
Went here for lunch and was so happy with our experience. We had the bulgogi and galbi and were super pleased with how everything tasted and with the portions. The dumplings were amazing as well! Will definitely be going back.
MoreAlways great food here, no matter what I order. We have our favorites. No gimbap on weekends, including Fridays, so we missed out. Buuutttt....we enjoyed every bite of ...Tteokbokki (spicy rice cake topped w/egg)Mandu (fried dumplings)Spicy pork (sliced pork stir fry w/ rice)Bulgogi (sliced beef stir fry w/ rice)Kimchi jigae (spicy soup with kimchi, pork, veggies and clear glass noodles plus comes with a side of rice)It was my first time ordering the kimchi jigae and by far my fave dish of the night! Even better the next day when warmed up!
MoreThis was my first time eating here and I dont regret it! I loved everything I got! The chicken bibimbap, spicy chicken, bu dae jigae, potstickers, and seafood Pajeon...ALL GREAT!!! So flavorful and I cant wait to dig into my leftovers today! Awesome place , very authentic, nice staff :)
MoreI got the bulgogi to go (~$11). It was delicious and filling. The food was also packed and presented well. I would recommend a visit 🍲🥘😋
MoreVery delicious food and very friendly employees. I recommend this restaurant to all who visit Ann Arbor.
MoreFood was ready for pickup, unlike a good many places at lunch time. The staff is also friendly and my transaction was both contactless and fast! But the main consideration for a restaurant is its menu, and Kangs did not disappoint. The food was tasty, the quantity was just right and the prices reasonable. We had Spicy beef, teriyaki chicken and a tofu dish, all of which were great. Spice levels were just right.Considering the competition on E. University it probably has to be, to survive, but Id say Kangs is not just trying to hang with its neighbors, its striving to outdo them. Will definitely be repeat visiting.
MoreAte there several months ago. Excellent stone pot bibimbop, no question. I assume other dishes are done well as the cooking process is authentic and rich with flavor. That said, the ventilation is brutal and you might as well do a complete clothing change and shower after eating there because you’ll smell like the cook afterwords. That’s a huge failure in my book.
MoreGreat spot to eat on South U. I crave their food at times. I think my friends are convinced that Im a bit obsessed. The Kalbi is one of my favorites. The service is always great. The guy I like usually see taking orders always has the most pleasant smile and kind demeanor. It makes me feel welcome like Im visiting an old friend.
MoreSmall town diner feel with the best bibimbap in town at a good price. A warm, cozy restaurant perfect for those cold winter nights. I always leave with plenty of leftovers. The lack of seating means you may have to wait for a seat and it can sometimes feel cramped. If anything, I wish they gave bigger water cups so you don’t have to always stand up and walk through the tables to refill your small foam cup. Nevertheless, excellent comfort food in a place that’s a nice change of pace from all the hip, sleek, minimalist restaurants.
MoreGreat food. Just discovered that some of these Asian restaurants by the University runs like a stall. Dont sit and wait for a waiter, because you will be waiting for an eternity!
MoreIt is excellent! I really like the food here, especially the Kalbi Tang and the Hot Stone Bibimbap, always my favorites. The room is small, sometimes a little crowded and contains limited seats, but can also makes it pretty warm in the cold winter. By the way, the tea provided for free is great!
MoreIve been dining here for over 16 years now and Kangs never disappoints. Food quality is always amazing, I usually order the spicy beef. They have complimentary barley tea as well. Its a cozy little restaurant enjoyed by families, friends, and college students as well.
MoreThe resurant was clean but everything about the food was mediocre. Both dishes lacked flavor and we walked away disappointed. Not worth the price. Pictured meals came to $25 total. Poor a/c. Not bad but would not recommend
MoreEasily the best Korean restaurant in town. The flavors were so present and plentiful, really bringing the taste together. There are many dishes to pick from. I would recommend picking contrasting ones to take your mouth on a journey of culinary joy
MoreAll I can say is - stop here and eat. Best Korean food I have ever had. Place is always packed and for good reason. It is so good we each get and extra meal to-go to take home with us (we are out of towners so we need to get it while the getting is good)
MoreVery noisy place. Stuffed with students. Large menu and decent prices, but quality is aimed at quantity not quality.
MoreKangs is an unassuming, casual restaurant, with amazing food. The location presents a little bit of a trade off. It is somewhat small, and as a result usually packed -- Id recommend eating toward either end of standard meal times to avoid some of the crowd. The kitchen is open, practically part of the dining room. Its very nice to see where your food is made, but the dining room can get warm. Not uncomfortable, just warm. The food is impossible to beat, though. The soups are excellent in particular. Tea is free, and a must-have.
