Kam Wah Cafe & Bakery - Hong Kong style fast food restaurant in Hong Kong, Hong Kong
Expensive and the food standard has dropped. Having stay in Hong Kong, the polo bun with butter is not even among the top 5. The milk tea was simply too sweet
Famous and indeed good on traditional Tea restaurants type bread and cakes, but bad service manners. Understandable on this type of old fashioned small restaurants, waitress have no patience and treats themselves rather than boss or customers at the first place.
Hong Kong Cha Chaan Teng or Greasy Spoon, known for its Pineapple Buns. Also has all the standard Cha Chaan Teng foods you would expect.
Pineapple Bun with Butter is the Bomb!
Quick, delicious, fast. Try their “stir fried noodle with premium soya sauce”. It was really good
Good old skool Bim Sutt. Nostalgic with good quality food to back it up. Staff decent & nice enough. Milk tea could have been less strong & milkier but that’s personal preference. Overall, a good enjoyable experience.
Pineapple bread isnt sweet enough. But the milk tea is good.
Milk tea is to standard, nuf said, the pineapple butter bun is fresh as hell, french toast is superb.I loved this place so much that I went here at 6:30AM before my flight just to grab some buns and mik tea to go.I look forward to coming back.
The must-visit cafe in Mong Kok, especially for visitors to Hong Kong who want a taste of classic HK cafe food and drinks. Of course, the pineapple bun with butter (bō lòh yàuhis their best seller. Its truly delicious. I come here when I want that truly local feeling of being in a lively, bustling Hong Kong.I suggest that you try the pineapple bun with butter, and if you like coffee, then get the mixed coffee + milk tea (yūn yēung). Really delicious.Staff are friendly, and even remembered me from my visit with family years ago.An English menu is available upon request.
Cafe shop right for general workers or low grade / uneducated people only , substandard quality of foods , No good or special foods offer , the foods and or beverage price / cost are normal and acceptable , table service is substandard as well . No good .
This local restaurant is famous for “pineapple bun with butter “菠蘿油 and Hong Kong style milk tea. So I ordered both which is $30 , no service charge. At 12:00 during weekday, the restaurant is not too crowded, of course lots of people come and get the takeaway. The pineapple bun with butter is so good! It is the best I had so far, the bun got a crispy and sweet crust, and the bun itself is soft and airy, it is slightly sweetened together with the butter which is salty, what a savory combination. And the milk tea got a good balance of tea and evaporated milk, it is smooth, not too milky, and the tea won’t be too bitter, a very Hong Kong style milk tea. Yummy!
A very local Hong Kong style Cha-chaan-teng. You can have the famous Polo bun and milk tea. If you are going for breakfast, lunch or dinner, do try the menu. You can also go for afternoon tea and try the Polo Bun with sliced butter
The breakfast has a lot of dishes from noodles to pastry. Everything we tried were all tasty and the price was so reasonable. We had been here 2 times for the brunch and it was always full of people.Bon appetit!!!
Pineapple buns are unbeatable. Must eat item in the cafe. I love the one served with fresh butter which had a hint of lemon fragrance. Marvelous! The milk tea was up on par. A famous traditional combo during HK tea time. The staff were not particularly friendly when they arranged the seating. Our choice of seating was not be entertained even the restaurant was not crowded nor theres any queue. Quite disappointed. If they could be more flexible and customer friendly, I would not hesitate to give full 5 stars rating.
Kam Wah Cafe is famous for a reason. Their pineapple buns are fluffy on the inside topped with a crisp layer on the outside. The added slab of butter just adds to the overall flavor. Along with its affordable price, the size of the bun is generous! We ordered 3 for the 4 of us and were still stuffed.Their dan tats (egg tartswere very good as well. Im not a huge fan of the overall style of milk tea but the taste was great. At the time we went, their lunch menu was not open yet but we ordered their spam ramen which was tasty. They also had a delicious french toast with a surprise smear of peanut butter on the inside. We went back for their great taste and quick service.
The egg tart should be eaten hot. Really delicious. The chicken wings and the fried drumstick rice was also good. Beef noodle was so so. The toast was yummy
A traditional Hong Kong style restaurant in Hong Kong and is well known for its best buttered pineapple bun in HK! It is suggested to visit in the morning if you want to try pineapple bun as it’s much fresher
Pineapple bun was better than most, but egg tart and milk tea completely average. Service was surprisingly friendly.Price is slightly higher than expected, HKD$43 total. Good HK experience, otherwise feel free to skip.
The food is pretty good. The incredibly low review is given because of the poor quality of service provided. I didnt want a drink but was forced to order one. And turns out that wasnt available so I had to order something else which I didnt want. A drink needs to be ordered with snacks and this sign appears to only be written in Chinese. I would not have patronised this place if I had known this before stepping foot inside this establishment.Since the option of zero stars is unavailable, one star is given unwillingly.
Quintessential old Hong Kong cafe experience. Outstanding pineapple and coconut buns hot off the stove are the must try with a cup of milk tea. Also dont forget about the egg tarts. Its the breakfast of champions. The shared table and the rush service is part of the experience. Love it.
Friendly Staff. They have an English menu and give you proper spoon knife and fork if needed. Try the Hong Kong Milk tea and the pineapple bun is a must!
I tried out the pineapple bun with butter inside, REALLY GOOD ! Tender bread crispy layer outside, nice taste, i even hv 1 take away. Its their popular bread, n the milk tea is great, smooth n the taste of the tea itself is great.Too bad i had full stomach when im there or i would have more dishes 😂Staff are friendly, don even think u can take time to relax n sitting there to sip ur drinks,no it wont happen, typical Hong Kong style, rushing environment . Should go.Sometimes Google lead to wrong way but do ask people around, they r friendly n helpful.
Pork chop in the bun was cooked to be tender and juicy, definitely a bonus. I’m told the tea is very authentic and tastes as it should be. I think it is very creamy, rich and smooth, but I didn’t enjoy the taste. Surprisingly the sweetness and fragrance of the tea came back deep in the throat. You just have to wait and take time to savor it. Unfortunately the lady boss made it very difficult to love the place.Didn’t understand many of the items on the menu, asked the wait staff and some were patient enough to answer. I thought they were rather kind to tourists, until the person I assumed was the lady boss (her photo is on the article displayed on the wallcame along. She was very overbearing and took over the explaining by giving a very lengthy explanation of Hong Kong terms and how simple and clear the menu was. They ran out of pineapple bun and egg tart, so they tried to make us order another meal. She came at me for being indecisive, restated that the menu was so easy to understand and straight-forward that old folks and young kids can order easily, except me, who was the only one having trouble. We had dined in two other shops prior to this, and didn’t want to waste food, we were only looking for a light dessert here. We decided not to order another item and at check-out, she slapped the receipt on the counter and gave a very disgusted look, then she grabbed a sales person and started talking and pointing to us as we left the shop.
Have the butter pineapple bread first before eating anything else so you can savour the pinnacle. Don’t worry about eating too much butter as you only live once :-. Wash it down with a cup of Hong Kong style milk tea. Then eat the other foods.
Must try their French toast!! Is awesome!!Polo bun is good as well. But the rice :(… not really tasty…For breakfast, is very cheap and the taste is not bad.
Rude and efficient, its all part of the charm. Theyre more sarcastic than anything else. Know your order before you go and enjoy the show. But eat fast or youll become an unwilling participant in it too. Popular for their butter pineapple bun, but I like the pork chop pineapple bun version instead.
Famous for their Bo Lo bun and Egg tarts. Personally i like their Bo Lo bun with bacon. Their dry ngau hor (beef noodleis so-so
Their bolo buns are an absolute delight, sweet and crispy exterior (crumble/crustpaired with a dense yet soft bun. They have an indoor seating area with an extensive menu of noodle and rice dishes. They also have a takeaway counter for their freshly baked items such as their famous bolo buns. Must have the bolo buns with a slice of butter just melting into the fluffy bread. Even though the staff understands Mandarin, its highly advisable to have a Cantonese speaker with you as the entire menu is in Cantonese
It wasn’t as good as expected. The crowd is really insane in the morning around 9am. But it’s relatively easy to get a seat if you are travelling alone or only two of you. Have to share seat with others. The polo bun is not straight out of the oven so it is not hot which taste not that good. But the egg tart is good.Maybe I will come back again in early morning to taste the hot polo bun.
If you want to have a breakfast, highly recommended if you have it here, Pineapple Bun, Egg Tart, Butter Toast, and the food that make you want to comeback to HK, the Iced Milk Tea, and dont forget about the French Toast as well.If you cant read the menu, request for an English Menu. And they dont take too kindly to you if you order so little in a busy place like this. One thing to take note also is that they do help to lock your luggage if you are coming with it (as shown in the photos)
Came here for the egg tart stayed for the pineapple bun.Pineapple bun is only soft and fluffy when its fresh from the oven . Otherwise its hard and verges on stale. If you go for the buttered pineapple bun, try to ask them for a fresh bun otherwise youre eating a patty of butter. Service is brisk because of the turnover. There is an English menu.
Kam Wah has one of the best bo loh yau/ pineapple butter bun in HK and for my past few trips across the decade, the taste is consistently good. They have a wide selection of food available so even if you are not a fan of pineapple bun, you can can tasty cha caan teng food here. But I’m slightly disappointed that my salted lime coke changed recipe and it doesn’t taste as good as last time.
Traditional cafe with a typical service level- impolite, rush and unfriendly. Polo bun and French toast just normal. The French toast is too oily if you are used to healthy food. The breakfast selection is limited. The drink of milktea just normal.
You don’t come here for the service, that’s for sure. The pineapple buns are very nice, although this time they weren’t hot enough to melt the butter 🍍 🍞. If you don’t speak Cantonese it’s a bit hard to go... but just walk in.. tell them how many people with your fingers... sit wherever they tell you to (they might sit you with other randomsand raise your hand to order as no one will come to you unless you look at them and put your hand up... then just point at the menu and enjoy!
We tried the egg tart (not the best we’ve tried), the buttered pineapple bun (pretty goodand both had iced lemon tea. (53 HKD totalThe space is pretty cramped and the staff seemed in a hurry to get us out of there, but that’s pretty standard for this kind of place. Didn’t try the breakfast items on offer so cannot comment on those.
Traditional HK style cafe, authentic HK style milk tea and coffee. We tried out their signature pineapple bun with butter and egg tart. Both are heavenly good, especially the egg tart, with wobbling custard filling. Must try if have a chance.
Classic 茶餐廳. No frills good food, love the beef chow fun and of course the pineapple bun, cocktail bun, and egg tarts are a must. Be ready for a crowd though as this place is always busy so be ready to share table. One of my favourite cheap places to eat in Hong Kong.
They have the best pineapple buns in Hong Kong Ive found. Theyre $10 HKD, warm, and with a slab of ice cold butter in the center.Ive been getting them everywhere in HK but these are the largest, best texture, and best flavor Ive found. One thing to know, is that they have a minimum charge per person to sit and eat... The buns are not enough. Its written in Chinese on the table but since none of us can read, we didnt know.NBD tho cuz you can just order at the front. We also snagged an egg and ham bun, while the egg was runny and good, the bun was super lackluster so skip that here.Cash only.
The pineapple bun was crispy on the outside and so soft and pineapple-tasty on the inside. Some Americans may want the butter too. The egg tart was as advertised and the right tasting size for one person. The hidden gem is the chicken pie, which was a perfect savory complement to my two sweet stars of breakfast. As for the service, they have an English menu and they got me the food promptly. They didnt bother me. IDK what else you want.
Best polo bun and egg tart that I had tasted over last few days. Lady who took our order was friendly (no rushalthough the place was very crowded.
Best tea house in Hong Kong. I always come here whenever Im in Hong Kong. Its so local and the experience is fantastic. The milk tea is strong and rich but the highlight is definitely the pineapple bun with butter, a local delicacy I would say and the butter melting in the mouth and fusing with sweet bread crust and out of this world. I would also recommend trying the fried French toast.
Loved this charming place for breakfast which we went on Saturday morning around 9.30. We got seats within 5 mins. The egg tart was flaky yet strong enough to hold the egg custard which was itself soft and with a lovely egg flavour. The char siew sou was large and the filling had a great lard taste that made it unique from the ones I usually had. The meat itself was also tender. The po lo pork bun was delicious. The meat was tasty and succulent and the slice of lettuce and mayo helped to gel the whole thing together. The French toast was sublime. The bread was evenly coated with egg and fried till golden brown. This was topped with an (unhealthydollop of butter. The instant noodles was expected but nice. Overall, a nice place with good service I.e. no hostile servers.
I was sent here by a friend to try their pineapple buns. It wasnt too difficult to find, if you hit the Goldfish Street then you are close.I had just ordered a couple of buns with butter at the entrance instead of sitting down. The buns were still warm and the top was crispy and sweet. The butter just gave it an extra unctuousness.Definitely worth coming down for a bun, especially if you are around the Ladies Market or other markets in Mongkok.
Stopped for a quick snack here. Can only speak for the Pineapple Bun and Egg Tart since thats all we got, but it was super delicious. Place is cramped each time we came (twice during our stay in HK).You will usually have to share a table with others, as is the case with most small popular cafes like this one.
No English menu. Used the photos to order. Classic sort of HK cafe. Their breakfast set portions are large but end around 11am. Great egg tarts, french toast is deliciously sinful and deep fried, luncheon meat and egg instant noodles is tasty as expected. Expect to share tables, and dont take the rude staff personally.
Came for their famous Polo bun. I took the one without butter as i preferred it plain. Definitely one of the best Polo Bun I’ve tasted so far! Only HKD25 for a polo bun and a huge glass of Iced Milk Tea I could barely finish.Recommended!
Another classical representation of Hong Kongs delicacies in its pineapple bun, flavorful and fluffy, my visit was fortunate as not much patrons were having their dinner, service and food serving time was swift enough, I particularly enjoyed my silky smooth milk tea
Average foods and drink, pineapple bun which is quite famous for here is not that much good, come with not warm, other items is not as expected, egg with BBQ pork and bread was not good at all, come in an small portion , bread is very dried. Iced milo drink with ice was already melted when served. The place is quite tidy and sit with other people. I called staffs for order about 5 times, but no attention at all
Fun place. Food was delicious. Dirty good. Iced coffee was meh. Cafe was packed. Had trouble getting a seat. And felt like I was getting yelled at in Chinese repeatedly as they found a spot for me. That is part of the fun, though. And they did have an English menu.
BEST BREAKFAST EVER! At first only expect something good from the Pineapple Bun but surprised at the great extensive choices of delicious Breakfast menu. Been here 3 times during my last 6days trip in HK.The Service was Great, very polite and helpful, which is very RARE in HK restaurant. The French Toast are OUT OF THIS WORLD! Best french toast Ive ever had. (10/10)The Curry Noodle was Amazing, taste sweet-sour-savory at the same time, and with the kick of Grilled Pork which is very tasty and tender. Surprisingly Good! (8/10)Pineapple Bun was Okay, not that special. (7/10)Coffee was okay if not bad. (6/10)Price is Value for Money worth ($$-$$$)
