Kalidonis Taverna - Restaurant in Darwin, Australia
Amazing good and fresh quality food. No added msg. We go there sometime and we are always satisfied.
Food was delicious. Drinks service was a bit slow.
Best meal ever, have travelled around the world and I have to say this was the best Chinese meal ever
Best Chinese restaurant in Darwin City. Steamed Fish with Ginger and shallot is so good. Not fishy and very fresh. Their mud crab is also fresh and they have a tank of crabs for display inside the restaurant. Pie Pa Tofu is a must try. Very unique and tasty. The staff and owner are very friendly and welcoming. It tastes like home cooked food , full of warmth. The price is affordable as well. Its definitely a place you cant miss !!!
The pitta bread and seafood tower for two were awesome, and the services was great, too
Great service, very fast and food is authentic and delicious! So good I even wrote a review!
Food was pretty good but felt a little expensive, recommend sitting inside in the aircon as not much of a view outside, service was friendly
I recommend that the people of darwin visit the restuarant. Food was fresh, delicious and huge portions. 1 plate could certainly be shared between 3 people. Staff so efficient helpful and very pleasant to deal with. Look forward to going again.
For a greek restaurant I expect greek food. The pictures promise more what is on the plate. Not close to Greek tastetasteless, the meat tough and dry, not even a lemon slice is on the plate. no thanks so I can cook myself, if not better .
I was so looking forward to eating here but left totally disappointed. We arrived got a table and ordered our drinks and food. After nearly 45 minutes we checked with the waitress to see where our order was as we didnt even get our drinks at that stage. She went to check and came back to tell us that our order was not in the system. Wanted us to reorder and not even a single apology from the waitress. We decided to leave as it was totally ridiculous and will never ever go back there again.
Fantastic food reasonably priced.BUT the service left a lot to be desired. 1 order was never given to the kitchen, staff busy chatting when we would of appreciated some service. Not professional.
What a great find in DarwinWe enjoyed an excellent meal here based on a referral by locals who know how good Kalidonis isMy partner had some delicious lamb chops, plenty of them with loads of salad and I had a Red Emporer grilled fish which was also delicious. The manager Foula suggested I try a Greek Cabernet which was very good as wellA first class meal and relaxing environment. Best to call and book ahead as it was full
This Monday, me and my husband spent our last night in darwin there, we had such a wonderful night there. Great food, lovely service. Nancy was really helpful accommodating us and the fish she patiently explained and recommended was really good. The portion is huge the Greek salad is big and unforgettable. And really good coffee too ☕️ Thanks for the lovely chat and sweet memory will definitely return one day.
Spoiler Alert! First time we came here, we ordered seafood platter ($60for 2 people which was huge and freshly cooked (grilled octopus still slightly hot, fresh oysters, warm garlic breads, …decorated in the beautiful 3-layer tower. Today we came in group with my friends and ordered the seafood platter for 4 people ($100), expecting the same thing. However, the tower came out and looked as same thing we got last time. On being clarified by the staff, the 4 people seafood tower will give you standard amount of oysters (6 oysters), with 2 extra small prawns and 1 slice of grilled squid (or octopusafter 1 hour waiting for all the food being not freshly cooked. So I assume we have to pay for the said extra stuffs for $40 with all of us walking out hungry. Feel sorry for my friends who has been told nice things about food quality and huge portions here…
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Whilst in Darwin had dinner here at the recommendation of a Tour Bus driver. His recommendation was spot on. The servings were very big and the Mousaka that I had was great. The drink prices were very reasonable and the service was first class.
To be fair, I first have to say, that Im from Europe and maybe were used to have different kind of greek food. Ive had the Yiros Plate with lamb meat. The chips were almost cold, wrinkled and tasted very dry. The pita isnt the kinda pita you get in greece...it was looking like just a sliced wrap, but not like a greek pita. The tzaziki was good, yes, as well as the meat, but it came with a lot of fatty pieces. But thats only my opinion and I dont want to say bad things about this restaurant. I just want to leave a honest feedback, thats it!
Food was incredible, my entire family are big eaters and we were full just from the appetisers, we had to ask for our mains to be in take away😂😂 it was amazing!!
I came here for the first time with my family and we left incredibly satisfied. You can tell the food is made with care and love. The portions were massive, and my nieces are picky eaters, yet they ate everything in sight. The food was very nostalgic from my childhood, and omg the octopus was the best ive ever had, better than glenti
If you are from Sydney or Melbourne I don’t recommend you to go there. These people have very diferente standards of traditional Greek food. My grilled octopus was rubbery and overcooked. The imperial red cod was dried and overcooked. I had the worst Greek salad ever. And the dips were super high on the garlic you could not distinguish the difference between them and finally the pita bread tasted more like a Mexican tortilla. And the worst they don’t sell spanakopita!!!!! But they sell pasta an pizza... what a contradiction.... I didn’t enjoy my food at all!!!’
Excellent meal and huge , we could of shared appetizer and main and still walked out full.Great friendly staff , fast service even though they were busy.We will be backAngie and RichardAlice Springs
Good prices and great serves. Food is always delicious. Pizza (unfortunately now off the menu), Fish and chips and Greek classics are all tasty and filling. I always leave very full and satisfied. Theyre good for dates but have enough room to accommodate small to medium groups as well. Only qualm is it can get super busy sometimes so it takes awhile to get your meal but otherwise one of my favourite Darwin restaurants.
Went for lunch last Wed and everything we ordered was just flavour-packed. Started with saganaki, squid and OMG the quail, WOW! Finished with yiros open plates. It was all just so flavourful. Nick and Foula provide you with the authentic flavours of Greece on a plate and at a very reasonable price. We will most definitely be back
First time trying Kalidonis (take away), got the mixed grill, was bloody lovely, fresh and very good size serve. Thanks to Nick and Foula, food was awesome, well be back.
One of my favourite restaurants! Their lamp chop is to die for! Definitely should go & try.
This is excellent. The Greeks really know how to handle fish. Had the special of grilled red emperor fish. Up there with the best fish Ive ever had. Cooked to perfection, some nice char, and creamy buttery flesh of the fish. The ouzo flows fast too, and service is friendly and efficient. Would come back just for the fish.
Lovely outdoor setting but... very long wait for food and some dishes mediocre. Shared entree plates came after nearly an hour and the few dishes we ordered were scattered over 30 mins. Octopus dry as jerky and meatballs cold, fortunately the squid and dips were good because those who ordered mains waited another 30 to eat on their own. Staff didnt care to offer a second drink service or any apology for the tardiness.
Attempted to go there for dinner. What a joke. Got ignored by staff who were too busy looking after large group bookings. Waited for an hour and a half and still no mains. Told them to cancel our order and we left. Dont waste your time with this place. Darwin has so many better options. Will be sure to tell everyone not to bother going here.
The place is charming, the food is good and they have a friendly staff. However, what makes me rate the place so low is the strange way they have to serve food. They attend first entrees of all the tables and only after all the entrees are served they attend mains orders. That would make sense if all the people at the restaurant would have ordered entrees. Although we ordered only mains and were waiting for the food to come for more than an hour.
Starters were fantastic, unfortunately the service was understaffed and food took more than an hour and a half, with no mains arriving at all. Absolute shame as we were really looking forward to the meals. Macca’s drive through on the way home to top out super romantic dinner..
The food here is always amazing. I recommend the grilled platter for 2 with a salad; youll have plenty of leftovers the next day. Staff are also really friendly. One small complaint was how long the food took to arrive on the Friday, but it was understandable given how busy the place was. Highly recommend - top 5 fave restaurants in Darwin.
We have a nice dinner. Delicious food and friendly staff. Cute decoration.
Service was very slow. Group of 6 and entrees came out bit by bit. One of us didnt even get theirsMains. Well my lasagne was fair but bottom of it was very hard. Hardly any sauce. Scotch fillet steak? Was it? Very fatty3 cheese pasta not very nice either barramundi was good and grilled Feta entree was niceWont go back or recommend
The best Seafood Tower in NT!!Fine dining, friendly staff and tasty food. Perfect for a date night or the extended family celebration meal out.Well definately be back!
Delicious original Greek food. Abundant portions. Ill be back soon.
Beautiful seafood tower for 2pp, but the taste really salty for us I guessed because seafood??? Anyway we enjoyed a lot!!!! We will definitely come back again~
Best seafood I’ve had in Darwin so far. Can highly recommend the seafood tower when here.Been here a few other times and not one dish has been disappointing.Good pricing as well !
My partner and I came to Kalidonis Taverna for our first dinner date. It was the best dining experience I have ever experienced. The waitress was so kind and attentive! The food was AMAZING! We got a seafood platter for 2 and for $60 we got a huge amount of perfectly cooked and deliciously seasoned. We asked for veg to go with the dips and the waitress went above and beyond to ensure I had no allergies or intolerance.I can not praise the staff, food or atmosphere enough.Thank you for a perfect evening.
Lovely modern Greek restaurant just outside of the CBD. The open space dining both inside and out gives you enough room for your party without feeling restricted. Amazing food and very well priced, the grilled octopus has to be on your final bill! **Children friendly**
Absolutely very good Greek restaurant. Service quality is superb, feel like home. I enjoyed my food and service every single time. A good dinning place for familys and group of friends.
Great restaurant, tucked away from the main street but still easy to get to. Quick service and friendly vibe. Food is yummy.
First thing first, very warm welcome by friendly staff. The grilled fish I had was awesome. It was a perfect meal accompanied by salad. Will certainly visit again.
Just beautiful, a perfect break for our holiday. We felt like we were somewhere else. The service was not just professional but warm and inviting. The food came out timly and was simple but perfect in presentation with a lovely array of pink colors and oil sheen. The range of savory flavours completely satisfied our pallets. We want to come back again for dinner.
A recent visitor on the Darwin eating scene specialising in Greek dishes. They have an extensive menu and the servings are on the generous size. Our party dined there recently and all were satisfied with the food and service
This has been such a great place to eat at...its off the path of the normal restaurant circuit in darwin which makes the night even better somehow. Great food and really good service then a nice quiet walk to home or city.Dry season will be great to sit outside and inside is chilled Greek maritime style.Just good.
Food was the absolute best. We got a variety so we could sample heaps. They will gladly help you choose. Excellent service and 6 of us pigged out couldnt finish so took home heaps of leftovers. Averaged $40 each.
Food delish and tasty.... cant ask for better Greek food recommend to all those who want awesome greek food in a fantastic atmosphere.
Everytime we go, we are treated like a valued customer. Always 10/10, friendly staff, quick service
Great value. Well loved relatively new Greek restaurant. Nice selection of traditional dishes. The potato dip was awesome.Bolognaise was top value and pizza is the reason Ill come back. Staff were well groomed and friendly.
Took my family there and enjoyed the food and their service so much!! Real taste of Greek food!! Loved all the flavors loved how quick everything we ordered came to us, an overall awesome experience!! Going back soon!! So glad this is in Darwin!! Omg!! I dont want to forget, the prices are so good!! So worth it!!
A new Greek restaurant in Darwin close to the city but not on a main street. We went on a Saturday night and lucky that we booked as the place was packed, food was good, very big serves and didnt wait long. The price was unreal, most entrees were about $7 and most mains were $17 amazing, with a few beers we were paying about $45 per person :)They have Pizza on the menu which is a bit strange, but might be to cater to kids or the unadventurous. Will be going back.
