A well-known place where the Third Battle of Panipat had been fought, Kala Amb is situated at 8 kms. away from Panipat city. There is an interesting story behind the name Kala Amb. The Marathas came to North India with a belief of changing Indian polity forever. Like Ibrahim Lodhi, the Marathas were guilty of antagonizing all potential friends and allies as well. There was a clash between Maratha forces and the Afghan army. The Maratha force was surrounded by Afghan adversaries, more over, their lines of supply and reinforcement were cut off. The total number of casualties of Marathas were as high as 75,000, including senior commanders and Peshwa’s son. The battle field was full of dead bodies. Today, this site is marked by the Kala Amb Park on the outskirts of Panipat. Incredibly, people come here for a stroll in the peaceful surroundings. In one corner of the park is a red obelisk. This marks the spot where the Maratha commander Sadashiv Rao Bhau fell in the battle. Legend and local tradition recount that a black mango tree stood at this spot and it was under this tree that Bhau fought his last action. The black mango tree exists no longer, but it has passed on its name to the park, hence the name: Kala Amb.
Well maintained place in memories of 3rd battle of Panipat. Must visit for experiencing our brave martyrs who fought for the land. Usually local boys from nearby city come here for photoshoots and reels who are unaware about the historical importance of this site. This shouldnt be allowed.
The Third Battle of Panipat took place on 14 January 1761 at Panipat, about 97 km north of Delhi, between the Maratha Empire and the invading Afghan army, supported by four Indian allies: the Rohillas under the command of Najib-ud-daulah, Afghans of the Doab region, and the Nawab of Awadh, Shuja-ud-Daula
Amazing placeThe battle of Panipat
3rd battle was fought between marathas and Ahmed shah Abdali on 14 January 1761 ,won by abdali. 14 January is known as maratha shaurya diwas now.Should visit this historic site. Dont use Sanuali road for 4 wheelers nowadays in Sept 2021 totally rough road with full digs and pitholes..hope it would be repaired soon.
Well maintained place. There is a monument & garden made by the state government in the memory of the third battle of Panipat. Car & motorcycle parking available on the site. However, there is not much else to see or do here. A canteen or food facility is not there or at nearby village. Bring your own food and water.
The Park is raised on the famous Battlefield of Panipat, which witnessed 3 great battles which are not only renowned for the bloodshed and large number of martyrdoms , but all these three battles were also had the most pact on the fate of India, its rulers and public. The park is good but Haryana Tourism seems to have forgotten this landmark. It needs maintainence and proper care under special manager. The Tourism can show short films on the history of Panipat and the wars being fought here on the land. The diamond which can be major piece of attraction on World Tourism is wasted like a useless stone in dirt. The State Government should consider this.
Waste of time .. it is a historical place but the government is not paying any attention to it
It is good for rest and relaxation if you want to come in summer then come with drinking water

Good maintained place. A pride for marathas. Approach road is bad through city traffic
Park is nice n quite large, buy not maintained. Also not popular. Needs to be advertised.
Located on the outskirts of Panipat, about 8 kilometres away from it; the Kala Amb is a historical site of great importance. This majestic ground witnessed the third battle of Panipat between the Maratha warriors and the Afghan army, and thus holds immense significance in the history of India. If legends are to be believed, the war ground, as well as the other plantations in the vicinity, turned black due to the uncontrolled bloodshed that took place in the war. The mango tree situated in the centre of the ground started to bear back fruits, and gave the land the name of Kala Amb.Ironically enough, people now visit the area to enjoy some quiet moments in the peaceful surroundings of the park. There is an altogether different and inexplicable kind of aura in the park and its vicinity, which somehow pacifies and composes all its visitors. The site is currently being developed and beautified by society in Panipat, with the Governor of Haryana as its President. The Ror Maratha community also organises an annual event at this site to honour the valiant soldiers who passed away, and this programme is a must attend.

Historical place of panipat, great maintained park and monument of the third great battle of panipat, fought between Marathas and Ahmad Shah abdali .The Third Battle of Panipat was a major battle of Indian history, fought on 14th January 1761. It was fought between the Afghan forces ofAhmad Shah Durrani along with his local Rohilla and other Pathan and Oudh allies, against the Maratha Empire.
Nicely maintained place for history. On the entrance itself two tablets are sculpted describing brief history of the three Panipat battles. However this place should have been maintained far better with more visual effect of history.
Its good place to spend some time, nice and peaceful atmosphere. It can be improve a lot.
