Kahunas Mongolian BBQ and Sushi - Mongolian barbecue restaurant in Redding, United States
The guy who cooked my food seemed like he was in a bad mood. I hope he feels better.
Its been 2 years since my last review. We visited again tonight and really had an awful experience. Floors and tables were sticky. The carpeted section has so much grease it shines. The hard flooring in the north dining room is buckling at every seam and they had box fans on the half walls because Im assuming their AC went out today. I tried the Tropical margarita, it had a tapioca consistency with hardly any liquor to it and it took almost 20 minutes to arrive. The waitstaff while polite, brought us the wrong check for the sushi we ordered that had somehow lost all flavor. Im really not a hater, but this place needs help. Theres alot of pain points to my review because so many things were bad, its more than just a new waitress or wrong order, everything is kind of a wreck.
Food was excellent service was good..bought way to much for our party..was pricey..was amply warned by the waitstaff...best leftovers ever...no regerts
Daughter and I had a great afternoon and a super wonderful meal. Staff explained what things were how they worked and all of our questions were answered with great enthusiasm 😊
Very nice and The waiter Amber was very nice to all the customers
The place was good and very well priced. $15 for a bowl in which you fill up with as much as you can. Good selection of everything including meats, vegetables, and sauces. The only downside is they only had one type of noodle, buckwheat. But regardless I was able to fill my bowl and eat very well. Once I was finished I was still able to fill a take out container with food. The cook was clearly very good at his job!
Sushi was served warm didn’t even eat any after the first piece, the bowl was decent, I ordered a a beer and was served in a warm glass…. Total bill was 52$. Not worth it. The cooks in the bowl section are cool people but the bar area ehhh
So we use to LOVE this place and were so happy when they decided to not sell and reopen. Very dissappointed now as you no longer get a second trip to the grill. You couldnt take the leftovers but that was ok because there usually wasnt much. Now its 16.00 for ONE bowl. Sorry but its not worth it.They blame it on covid but i am sure its inflation. Just not worth 16.00 for one bowl and no other dishes or sides. Sorry.
Some of the food is pretty good but the place is very dirty, the floors and menus are always very sticky and the forks never seem that clean, I definitely recommend eating with chopsticks because they are sealed and they arent a risk. Also the booster chairs are always gross, like they hadnt been cleaned in weeks. As for the alcohol, both times ive ordered drinks there were fruit flies swarming the drink by the time i got back from the bbq. I would only really recommend this place for the sushi.
We had a really great time! The food was amazing, restaurant was clean, and the staff was awesome! We were helped by a really friendly woman named Tara. Tara was extremely friendly, welcoming, explained the process, and happily answered all our questions (with a smile! Her customer service was impeccable and top notch! Thank you Tara, and Kahunas for making our "date night" extra enjoyable and special! Well be back for sure!
The food and service was good but the childs appetizer didnt come out until the rest of food was eaten. Also the bill was overcharged and waitress wasnt wanting to revise it.
Went last night for dinner. Restraunt was extremely hot with no over head fans. We all had the mongolion bbq bowls. The heat also caused us to not eat the shrimp and some other items in the bbq line as they smelled foul and def were not cold. Beef was also very tough. Several sauces and items not even labeled. The menus are all duck taped on as well to change the prices as its now $18 for ONE trip through.(put some effort and $ back into this placeSeveral in our party finished their bowls and were still hungry. Most Mongolian bbq places are unlimited at this price. Server was okay she rarely came to fill our drinks etc. The restraunt was almost empty as well. Food was okay not the most flavorful.
Not what it use to be. Prices are now 18$ per bowl. That only included one trip then we were pushed out as soon as possible without being offered dessert. The drinks we ordered were mostly ice with less then 1 shot of alcohol in each one. Overall we spent over 129 $ and walked away hungry. I recommend Cocos Mongolian grill were you can make more trips then just one and has better selection for less money.
The BBQ is good. The sashimi and sushi are no good. 3 tiny pieces Salmon costs $11, and the quality is so-so. The rice of the sushi is terrible.
Rude staff. Not much of a selection of meats. They push the sushi bar more than the grill. Sad.
Bright, open space, casual ambiance. Beautiful bar area. Sushi was delicious and the service was great. Good selection of items for the dinner bowl option.
Food is amazing, for those who say it has no flavor, your just not adding enough juices. Add more!! Staff is great
The worst experience ever for fathers day!!! Table were sticky and wet, food was late and a fly in a drink, floor was sticky as well, sushi was not that great more on the plain side for a 19 dollar roll and we waited for two hours! Seriously the rating confused the heck out of me. Wont miss this place at all cause we wont be returning.
The atmosphere, bowl, and sushi were amazing! The sticky floor and tables were not. We were there close to opening, so there was no excuse for how dirty the floor and tables were. The waitress was great and the food was as well.
The beef that was in my bowl was tougher than tough. If you’re going to use a cheap piece of meat, at least learn how to cut it across the grain so it’s not so chewy. The sushi was pretty good, no complaints there.
It was 8:50, the waitress said they close at 8:45, I was looking for some good noodles to take home.
Awesome food! Prepared before your eyes. They need a tutorial on how to do it though. And dont order a soda, way overpriced!Service was good, place was mostly clean, smelled of fish pretty strongly.
My son took me for Mothers Day the food was amazing however they were out of quite a few things including of all things butter other than that it was very clean our server was fantastic and the food was lovely
I used to like this place when they were downtown. Grill is way overpriced at $16 for a one-trip bowl. Their nearby competitor CoCo Mongolian Grill is $11 for a one-trip bowl, $14 for all you can eat and has a better selection including seafood.
Ok experience... crowded in the mongolian dept... people waiting for their bowls were crowded infront of the additional items that I wanted to add to my bowl
Great fresh varieties and wonderful staff all the way around. Love this place
The prices and the selection are decent. One of the things about Mongolian BBQ is that if you dont like it, its your own fault- so ALWAYS put more seasonings and sauces on it than you think you need.
This is a great option for Mongolian BBQ. You only get to fill your bowl once so grab a tray and some gloves so you can conduct a bit of engineering as you pile it all on. There are a lot of great options available to build your custom meal.
Great place, good value. If Gluten-free you have lots of options. Also happy to clean grill for protection against cross contamination.
Worst dining experience EVER. No one greeted us when we walked in the door. Took forever to be seated. No one came to our table for the t min. Soft drinks came in a timely manner but cocktails came with food. Server kept messing up Out of 5 orders, 4 came at the same time. By the time the 5th order came, everyone was done and we had to get a to go container. $19 drink was all ice and MAYBE one shot - for a Long Island! No comps were offered and to top it off the bathrooms were FOUL!
Very awesome idea how they have u make your own stir fry bowl. Lots to choose from anywhere from meats and vegetables. And Katrina our waitress was awesome made us feel like we were right at home :)
Great food. Good service. I enjoy the variety of sauces, thar add so much flavor. A good addition would be shredded cheese after food is cooked.
SO GOOD! The people here are so kind and wonderful! The ingredients are fresh and abundant, a huge variety, low price, high quality, fantastic atmosphere, very clean! I love this place so much. One of the grillmeisters was absolutely amazing, he held a conversation with me as he cooked multiple dishes, did tricks, and stayed humble, even thanked me for the tip at the end. I didnt get his name but he had a sort of rockstar style to his outfit and I think a cleft palate. This dude is a king! Whoever is in charge, keep an eye on this one and do whatever it takes to keep him, seriously, we will be coming back often and its in huge part because of him.
My best friend and I try to go here at least twice a month. You absolutely need to try the build it yourself bowl.I had so much fun adding every type of fresh veggies and different cuts of meat, seafood, EVERYTHING! And the sauces are amazing! Then they prepare it right in front of your eyes! And the owners are truly the nicest couple. They want to ensure that you have a great dining experience!
Sushi fare was okay. Drinks were decent. Meat was defrosting in the trays for the Mongolian Grill. Not sure if the meat was lamb or chicken. Place came recommended, I would not recommend.
Good food good service they are very accommodating good serving size very happy
Amazing customer service great food and good drinks thank you very much
This was the worst service of my life. It took forever for us to be sat, then even longer for our waitress to say hi. The food was just fine, but the waitress never stopped by our table to see how things were or if we needed something! The hostess checked in on us more than the waitress did. AND THEN when we finally got our checks and box my friend paid in cash. The waitress said there was nothing in there (I saw there was for sure while she walked awayand so she had to go search the floor for it. THEN when she came back she didnt even give the change for the bill! Rather than waiting another 20 minutes for her to walk by us we just left. I wont say that they were slow, but there is NO excuse for this! I used to love this restaurant and recommended it to everyone but I can for sure say I will never come back and I reccomend you dont either
My daughter took me there for the first time on my birthday. Mongolian beef was real good! Think Ill come back on Wednesday when its all-you-can-eat. I didnt have the sushi but it look pretty good.
Came here for dinner. After a long day of driving we decided to try this place as the reviews were good and it was walking distance to our hotel. When walking in, we were not greeted but we walked into the bar area and asked if we could sit at the bar. They have a full bar. The beer selection is alright. My BF had their IPA and I got a peach mojito. We ordered a monkey roll, 7 piece nigiri, and a peppered tuna avocado roll. While we waited for our order, my BF asked the bartender for something refreshing and she made him a cucumber doll lemonade chiller. It was definitely refreshing and really went well with the sushi. Our food came and it was very delicious! Only one we didnt care for was the peppered tuna avocado roll. The rice over took the tuna and it really needed something with more texture. After we finished, we wanted alittle something more so we tried the shrimp poppers. Very tasty and was the perfect amount! If we stay in Redding again, will come back.
Hostesses working hard and fast, more communication with customers would be nice. Waitress was great! Cook was really fast and nice! Drinks were VERY expensive and not good at all. Long Island $17! And tasted like they used coconut rum.
The Veggie Rolls & Avocado roll I really like, its vegetarian friendly!
Absolutely love this place! All you can eat shrimp for a good price. Options for the BBQ are amazing. I love that you have shrimp & eggs as well as zoodles! 4 stars because my spicy bloody marry wasnt good.
Food was awesome, service was great, and sushi was bomb and, surprisingly, well priced, thought it was going to be more than whats typical of a sushi spot.
Friendly staff, fast service and the food was delicious. My daughters new favorite place!
Best in town for Mongolian and sushi (If you think theres a better place in town, please do share, but this is a suuuuuper good place). Manager and staff are fantastic! Great atmosphere.
I love the fresh sushi and the large selection of topping to add to the noodles.
One of my favorite places to eat!! Sometimes the line gets a little long, but the food is wonderful. The alcoholic drinks arent really worth the price. Had a lavender lemonade, it was refreshing!
Excellent service at the new location on churn creek. Everyone was very polite and had excellent customer service. Went there for lunch today for the first time and got all you can eat sushi and one trip of the Mongolian for lunch. Will definitely be back!!!! Thank you
Yummy food, amazing experience and okay drinks. Some of the alcohol is rice alcohol.
