Kahkow Experience - Tourist attraction in Monte Plata, Dominican Republic
Amazing place for chocolate lover as well as for taking tourists. You can take the historic tour as well as take the soap and/or chocolate bar workshop. They also have and awesome café and gift shop. Highly suggest trying the Chocodamia, youll want to buy a jar of it at the gift shop immediately.
This place is a most see, the experience is exceptional
Our highlight in santo domingo!Very nice atmosphere, friendly staff, high quality show rooms and delicious chocolates!
Yesterday we walked in about 2pm and picked the Chocolate Bar Tour for $8. The receptionist didn’t speak word English and when she asked if we speak Spanish and we said no only English she slowly rolled her eyes on us so we felt unwelcome right away. After that She showed us every second that it bothers her to deal with us…very unprofessional, disappointing and rude!! The tour itself was about 10mins long, we could taste raw cocoa beans, learned a little bit about the process and at the end made our own chocolate bar which was nice. The guy doing the tour speaks English and was nice. Over all it is nice to place to visit and if you speak English I hope you will have better experience than we had!
Super nice and well organized. It was nice to do and to know some information I never knew. I like it
Súper delicious chocolate. Very nice experience making chocolate and learning of the history in Santo Domingo. The offer tours and experience and also have a little cafe to try different chocolate items. Fun experience.
Great for chocolate loving kids, couples, friends. Really cool
*Do not* waste your time or money. The "tour" is a 5 min talk of display machinery, there is no factory. They then give you a 3oz cup of melted chocolate, allow you to pour it into a bar shaped mould, and sprinkle a small variety of add-ons.
One of the worst "Experiences" ever. To begin with, when we went there to book for the next day (we were already in Zona Colonial so we thought might as well pass by and bookthe staff were very unwelcoming and passive. It seemed like they didnt even want to work. The employee who wrote our names down was laid back and didnt even sit up straight. The actual experience was horrendous. The staff literally talked for like 5 minutes then told us to choose the topping of our chocolate and this is what they call "Kahkow Experience". After that, they show you their shop for you to buy their overpriced chocolate. At the end, they give you the chocolate that you "made" wrapped in plastic with no box or any kind of packaging, only to melt later on.The whole experience took no more than 10 mins and its definitely not worth the money or even the time.
KahKow is must do tour in DR Este. My family and I had a great time making chocolate bars. It worth the price! Now we know why chocolate is expensive..🤣
Unfortunately the factory was down because of electricity. The staff was super nice.
Excellent spot to have a dessert and have a unique experience with children or couple.
Great tasting chocolate. Must try making your own chocolate bar or hand soap.
Great tour and well priced, make sure to take the factory tour
Great place to go with kids, all the family can make their own chocolate bars. Their gift shop has it all.
The staff were good, but the chocolate making experience was a but of a rip off. Youre given melted chocolate which you then add toppings to, not really making chocolate. Didnt do the tour but from talking to others that would have been better.
This is a must see in the colonial village. A little over priced but worth it. They have free samples and cacao rum!!
I was quite nice experience. I feel proud that my country follow Hershey path.
Its a bit expensive, however, the experience where you can make your own chocolate is entertained. Free wifi for guests.
Amazing chocolate and great staff. The tour is a great addition to your experience.
One of the best and real experiences in the Colonial City of Santo Domingo. Actually it was so wonderful for the kids and they loved it. If you want to learn about chocolate, how to make it, and taste it this is place. There is a mini factory and a store to buy many different types, shapes, flavors of chocolate. Recommended.
Absolutely fantastic chocolate and other cacao based products. Truly world class! As for the museum/experience however it was not quite as stellar. The "make-your-own-chocolate-tour" was far to short and rushed. A more comprehensive tour of the manufacturing and more time to experiment would have been great, even if it came with additional costs.
The best chocolate in the world. My second time visiting and this time I left with a case of assorted chocolates to last me until next time! Vegan chocolate too! Literally the best Vegan Milk Chocolate ever!
This was so interesting! The tour was really nice although our tour guide was not as "spirited" as us (could be that it was the end of the day lol). Either way, we had a great time observing and learning. We could take pictures but no videos. We got to create our own chocolate bar which was definitely worth it.
Disappointing: High price for a tour, that was mostly done by videos. The tour guide, that only shows up at the end didn’t know how to answer questions, once they became more specific than what chocolate is made of.
So desapointing! We had a wonderful experience with this place at their other store (Blue Mallhence we wanted to try this one @ Zona Colonial. But the "experience" was awful.First they didnt have air conditioner 😥🥴Then we asked how we can order if they have a menu because it was our first time going there and the response was you have to go over there somewhere in the back like if we were bothering them (2 ppl doing nothing but being stick to their smartphones in a reception. The same ones in the picture I added to this review): WOW!Therefore we picked up our stuff and we left the place they didnt even bother to ask why we were leaving, one of the worst customer service experience ever!!!
Booked the soap making session, fun experience, ended with colorful scented soap, our own creation. Ended the visit with frozen hot chocolate amazing, better than the frozen hot chocolate in serendipity 😋 overall beautiful visit.
The tour was very informative and entertaining. The chocolate and soap making experience was fun for the entire family! Prices were reasonable and the chocolate cafe had yummy treats to try (frozen chocolate was out of this worldhighly recommend
Guide was very helpful and entertained. Kids loved the place.
We love it! It was a great experience that everyone on my family enjoyed! From the youngest to my grandma! A must do if visiting Santo Domingo! The staff was very helpful and professional from setting up the reservation and accommodating us to the full length of the tour! The facilities were very clean and followed all the CDC guidelines regarding COVID, we felt very safe and comfortable throughout the tour!
Great Experiences to do with friends and family, highly recommended. Chocalate making, and Chocalate history staff is very polite as well.
Enjoyed the experience!! We took the tour and were able to make our own chocolate and soap. It was informative and fun. We also ate at the Cafe after which was delicious.
Nice presentation and actually informative. So far the best tour experience in Santa Domingo. Of course they want to sell you chocolate but there is not pressure.
Awesome chocolate factory & shop. Came here in the afternoon for the factory tour ($7where you get to know the process of making chocolate & then make your own chocolate bar with a choice of dark, milk or white.I can honestly say this was one of the highest quality chocolate bars that I have had the pleasure of eating.
Extremely impressed with the tour and chocolate making process. Ordered frozen hot chocolate and a cold chocolate coffee from the shop which were both incredible. I highly recommend doing the chocolate workshop where you get to make your own chocolate and toppings. Staff was also extremely friendly.
They make a very brief but interesting tour, during which they let you try the cacao pulp, see a couple of informational videos and to glance at a simulation of a chocolate production line. We paid few extra bucks to get the "chocolate making class", the disappointment levels could not be higher, you are, again, showed the chocolate production line and then they give you 3-4oz of melted chocolate (Dark, milk or whiteand 2-3oz of some additional (flaked almonds, raisins, chocolate chips...So you can put it all in a mold to be cooled down for 15mins; i patiently waited while drinking my "La More" beer, made of chocolate 🤤, (not included). What can be improved? Well, maybe letting the guest to smash some cacao beans themselves, even if they dont use it (for security and health reasons)or to teach how to make a chocolate bar from scratch using only tool we have available at home. Because being honest, it was like paying 10X for a chocolate bar, with the only difference that I held it when it was still liquid in my hands before pouring it in a squared mold.
Best hot chocolate Ive ever tasted. Great assortment of different chocolates you can buy, and you can have a tour of the premises and chocolate making facilities. Great day. We also came back a second time for another hot chocolate and carrot cake.
Enjoyable tour! My 3 kids ages 10 and 7 loved it. They were educated, and entertained! The tour and chocolate making workshop were very satisfying! The location is pretty and the store had great treats. We highly recommend the Kahkow experience!
I stopped here, as a solo traveler, wanting to pay for and take part in all 3 experiences advertised. I was disappointed at the fact that the services are openly offered online, to individuals, yet I was turned away, because I was solo and there were tours incoming. I can understand that they were ahead of me- cool... But I was told to come back in an hr and half, and Ubered back to find the entire place closed for the day.Two stars, because it is a really cool concept, with a nice setup, but the customer service needs improvement.
Very sophisticated and appealing! Excellent selection of organic chocolates and beverages.
Great experience. A place to visit if you want to explore how chocolate is produced and make one yourself.
This place is amazing if your craving for chocolates. Very elaborate form of chocolate from soap, cookies, for drink and eat. The place has a small factory where you can see the chocolate taking form from the cacao to the chocolate, they can even let you do your own chocolate.
A must visit. A relaxing and informative tour. Best - you get to taste choclates
Chocolate tours are cool, they could emphasize more if the bean to bar, they do have 100% and 82% and a bunch of junk candy chocolate for tourists. There are also many chocolate drinks, the chocadamia caliente burned my tongue and I melted an entire bar in it to actually make it taste like chocolate which made it $4 bar, $5 cup = $9 drink. Its in an original building on the first street in the first city in America!
Nice experience in chocolate factory, we made our own chocolate! Also delicious chocolate and other desserts - recommend to stop by and have something sweet and also buy some sweet souvenirs in the shop!
Amazing place!! I had a great experience there, they showed us how they do chocolate, all the process and even let us made our own chocolate for a very cheap price. They show you how to do soap with cacao too. It was awesome!!
One of my favorite experiences in Santo Domingo. I recommend taking the chocolate tour (15 USDand adding the soap-making workshop (7 USD), though you can also add a chocolate-making workshop. (When you do the chocolate tour, you’ll see the area where the chocolate is being made.Inside the gift shop is a cafe, so even if you don’t do the tour, you can visit and try the chocolate. (January 2018)Update: I returned and have two suggestions: 1Offer filtered water in a glass if a guest requests it after ordering drinks from the cafe. In any classy establishment, the normal response to a water request should not be, “Buy bottled water from the cafe.” That’s my opinion, anyway.2I know it’s difficult to run any business in any country because employee theft is a problem. This business tries to mitigate the issue by having guests order at one point and pay at another point; however, the guest, even if placing an “inside” order, is told to return and pick up his or her food and drink. This approach is suboptimal customer service. In my case, I was carrying multiple items and was told to go pay and return. I dropped my piece of chocolate on a napkin after another employee unintentionally crowded out available space at the payment counter. I was told they would charge me for two pieces if they offered a replacement chocolate. In this case, the balance between customer service and avoidance of employee theft requires asking a manager to approve a complimentary replacement rather than charging the customer twice. For these reasons, I have reduced my original 5 stars rating to 4 stars. (January 2018)
Awesome place in general but most of all if you love chocolate! A great tour in which you learn how chocolate is made and then you can taste it (its amazingalso you can do other things like make your own chocolate or your own soap.Great presentation, clean bathrooms and just a neat environment. Highly recommend!
Amazing story of how cocoa is made and came to the New World. Tour is awesome and you get to make tour own chocolate bar.
Very interesting place to visit. Tour of how chocolate is made.
