Kaeng Krung National Park in Surat Thani
Description
Privilege
A lot to do. Could spend 3 days there
Lovely views of the huge lake and a suspension bridge to the island which has a cycleway and walkway all the way around (1kmpity that the second bridge to a much larger island is closed.
MoreWhen visiting this place, covid 19 starting,so quite.I
Very pleasant, quiet place. Beautiful nature, very easy walks possible.
Kaeng Krachan National Park, a huge disappointment. After reading information online and in my travel guide, I was really looking forward to explore this beautiful national park. After a one hour ride from Phetchaburi, I reached the entry point to the park. Being a foreigner, my ticket was 300 baht, a reasonable price, at least thats what I thought at that moment in time. I reached the Ban Krang camping site, parked the car and started looking for trails into the forest, hoping to encounter interesting animals. I found one trail, which immediately required me to cross 2 streams and afterwards it was pretty much guessing where to go next. The only animals I came across, were annoying insects, no tropical birds, no monkeys, nothing worth my blood, sweat and tears in the humidity and heat of the forest. I got back at the camping site to discover there was nothing else to see or explore. Since the next camping site was only accessible by a 4 wheel drive, my adventure ended prematurely at the camping site. I truly wonder how on earth people are supposed to encounter elephants, leopards and other animals in this park (as stated online), there are hardly any trails or viewpoints and you wont find them on a campsite. Unless you enjoy camping in nature, avoid this national park, paying 300 baht for wandering around a campsite is not worth your time, Thailand has so much more to offer.
MoreSo much wildlife and diversity.
Kaeng Krachan National Park has been accepted as a World Heritage Site, announcement made on 26th Jul 2021Kaeng Krachan National Park is the largest national park of Thailand. It is on the border with Burma, contiguous with the Tanintharyi Nature Reserve. It is a popular park owing to its proximity to the tourist town of Hua Hin.
MoreThailands largest NP. A wonderful place for birding, butterflying, hiking and photography. Went mainly for birds and butterflies and KK provided plenty of both. Saw 42 new bird species w/pics of most and countless species of butterflies. Also 1 beautiful Monocled Cobra, which was an added thrill and bonus.
MoreVery friendly staff and great place for camping and hiking also the small coffee shop and food are excellent, but cleanliness from showers and toilets are bad, why making a very expensive and nice concrete road if you not even can maintain the toilets and showers! Urgent need to improve this. But will return to the park.
MoreGood place to relax and enjoy nature!
I recommend to make tent at the lake side..in the hill side camp..not much interesting. Only some monkey jumping side to side. Some nice spot for picture.
MoreHave been here many times and will plan to visit again. Not too far from Bangkok and very green!
MoreThe 1st Stamp in my Passport Book a wonderful place to spend the day. Bring your CAMERA so much to see.
Morethis park has multiple entrances, and it seems reviews for the Pala-U waterfall and the main camping areas (Ban Krang, etc.are being conflated. These two entrances are far apart, and two totally different experiences that just happen to be in the same park. The waterfall is just that: a waterfall (and definitely not worth 300 baht. The camps are the real thing (worth 300 baht). See reviews for Ban Krang instead.
MoreNice place for silent weekend with close to natureThere is a nice hotel nearby.
Best Wildlife viewing and impressive Hugh Park for Nature’s Lover
Beautiful landscapes with a big dam surrounded by mountains! Nice curvy roads for riding a motorcycle. The largest national park in Thailand!
MoreThis is the biggest national park in Thailand. The trails have different levels and are suitable for all hikers. The wildlife is amazing. We saw a spotted leopard, an Asian foreat tortoise, dusky leaf monkeys, birds, and over 20 species of butterflies. The park fee entrance is 300 baht for foreigners and 100 baht for Thais. A long tail boat tour across the dam is highly recommended. The park is open from November to July every year. During COVID-19 only Ban Krang Campsite is open.
MoreQuite disappointing. It’s called a national park but it’s basically just a camping site. Not so much tree around, ground is paved with beton and grass. Was thinking on visiting the suspension bridge, but to find out that the bridge is suspended, i.e. dismantled 🤣
MoreBeautiful Park. Nice for a drive and found one nature trail that gives the feeling of walking through the forest.I have been spoiled though by US parks. I wish there were more trails where you could spend most of the day walking in the forest. In Kaeng Krachan only the main road and the one trail were for walking. Maybe there were more but no maps were available. Given the 300 baht entrance fee for non thais I dont think it is worth a repeat visit more than once a year.
MoreFeeling peace and rest in this park.Just, many wild dogs which we might pay attention especially going with kids and elders.
MorePeaceful countryside with selection of outdoor activities. Just 2 hours drive from Bangkok.
MoreNice park to chill out .
Great national park with a little something for anyone with a keen interest in nature and its wildlife!
MoreVery nice place for camping, quite vast forest range so better select right place of intestinal before visit viz.. dam view point, suspension bridge, camping area etc..
MoreNice national Park to visit with family and loved ones...
I made the mistake of just searching the name of the national park on Google, then spent a long time trying to work out which part these reviews were talking about as Google Maps shows two separate destinations as Kaeng Krachan. Realized after visiting today that the northern destination of the two is in fact Pa La-U waterfall. Search for that on Maps for better information.
MoreOne of the best waterfalls in Thailand. Its quite long with many different levels, sections, swimming pools and is great for swimming. There are many large fish and they will try and bite you if you stand still, so swimming can be a little adventurous! Except a 30min hike to the bigger fall at level 5.
MoreGreat place to visit natural animals in there environment
Nice place to be!Hiking around the waterfalls and enjoy the peacefulness up there was incredible!
MoreBeautiful large lake. Largest national park in Thailand
Very interesting place. The rapids of the waterfall are small, but beautiful, around the jungle. There are a lot of fish in the waterfall, the children really liked to feed them. Be careful in April there were a lot of wasps, my daughter was bitten by a wasp in the leg, local workers in the cafe said that they did not bite.
MoreGreat hiking and beautiful nature
Very beautiful park with a huge lake.
Definitely worth the visit for people who love nature and hikes, do note that its unlike sg macpherson treetop hike but a lot more rock and steep and the need to climb. Hiking shoes advised to be worth. The view there makes it worth every effort. Also do bring insect repellent (preferable organic ones if you intend to soak you feet, the water is really cooling and definitely worth the soak after a long hike)
MoreGood place for a hike. There are 5 levels and each level has a beautiful waterfall. Bring change of clothes and towel and a waterproof camera. Its quite a slippery and dangerous hike at certain points so bring good sandals that you dont mind getting wet.
MoreAttraction is the waterfall. It consists of 5 levels. Its not a single one, its a 5 step waterfall. People enjoy and relax in the water. Interesting jungle around. If a place for nice pics is expected than it might be not the right place. Especially if you have no Thai ID. In that case you have to pay 3x more than a local. We will visit that park not again.
MoreI only go as far as the dam itself and it is exhilarating experience. If you wanna see Thailand in its natural state with a lot of thoughtful environmental project. You need to visit this place. Come in June, the sun is less extreme but you still can enjoy the full wind for an hour.
MoreNice waterfall, alit of butterfly around april - may. You may hsve chsnce to found wilde elephant on the way.
MoreA lovely natural beauty. Lush green and water all around. Best time to go is early morning or late afternoon when the sun is mild. Boating on the dam a must. Sad part is that you hardly see any wildlife other than monkeys. Concept of wildlife trail is missing. But enjoy the views of the green mountains and clear water. If you are lucky clouds will descend on you when you are in the lake on a rainy day.
MoreAbsolutely stunning area ! Defiantly worth the entrance fee , if you visit another national park on the same day you wont have to pay again unless its more to enter in which case youll only pay the difference. Kids under 5 are free .
MoreDiscovered by accident, but just loved it! Going back later in march , taking my boat this time, I feel the need to explore more of this magnificent national park. Dont have your own boat? No worries there are plenty offering tours to the inaccessible places.
MoreBeautiful relaxing place to spend time away from Bangkok. Its only 3 hrs away by car.
MoreHad a great visit plenty of natural surroundings. Also some hill tribes living in this location. I really enjoyed it.
MoreA place with nice view for camping and seeing sunset
Great place to bring the kids for a camping trip.
Very nice Park in wonderful nature surrounding, only one road through, half way paved and the second only with 4x4 car to go, depending on hours to go up or down. Beautiful views from top of the mountain, but it is recommended only for experienced Offroad drivers. Now many animals, no carnivores to see, some monkeys, lots of birds, snakes and lizards. Crowds with groups t Thai people on weekends, weekdays quite unbusy and easy to to... We love the fascinating atmosphere of the park, but it has nothing in common with African national parks
MoreVery beautiful lake with clean water. Local people here are not very spoiled by foreign tourists, so you can expect cheap prices and many smiles)
MoreAmazing bird life and I would highly recommend visiting one of the many bird hides. 300 but pp and is worth every cent. I went in the off season and the bird life was still excellent. If your time is short skip the morning session and only go for the afternoon where you see majority of the bird life.
MoreGet close to nature! This is my favorite national park in Thailand. There is ample wildlife, especially birds, butterflies and monkeys to see. The surroundings are beautiful, the campsites are well equipped. If you would like to see a beautiful view of the sunset and gaze at the stars, go up to Panoenthung campsite and viewpoint. The site is accessible only via a 4WD and my Nissan XTrail 4WD was just about adequate for the trip. Overall it was a great experience and I will definitely return.
