Bakau, Gambia, Diourbel
Visitors can touch crocodile at this sacred pool, 1 of 3 used for healing & fertility rituals.
The workers are very nice and welcoming. The museum has a lot of information and items you can see. I enjoyed my time there and was happy that I was able to see and touch 1 crocodile. The path was nice and we were able to see some big trees. Someone bought bananas and started to feed the monkeys. Basically you can see both crocodiles and monkeys here. If you only have time to go to 1 of the parks I would recommend the crocodile pool over the monkey park due to the kindness of the staff members.
Big friendly alligators but I was still terrified🤣🤣my face told the story
Good place to visit when in Banjul, the guide is also good
This place is well organised, the people there are so lovely and friendly...I was not chanced to snap the area due to the pool was filled with water but i bought a crocodile teeth
Very nice habitat for crocs.Tamed to be fish eaters and the guides are always present to take you on a tour.
It’s short stop 😉 but it’s closest way how to touch crocodile. Friendly staff will tell you all about pool and animals
Fun adventure and remember to be brave by touching the 🐊 when posing for a picture. The museum is very informative and interesting. There are lots of Monkeys around also … it’s right in the heart of town.
Place connect interesting history, tradition and experience. Definitely you should visit if you are able.
Nice to see the crocs (theres a lot of them & 1 albino which is cool), they get fed fish so dont attack people or others. There is a small (not very well maintainedmuseum with some history and culture of The Gambia
I hate it because I dont go there
You’ll pay 100 dalasis for entry to the museum which is small but pretty informative. The “pool” is just a few meters away (you have to go through museumwith many crocodiles just “chilling “ and those are the ones which you can touch. I DO NOT agree with it and watching other people to almost sit on 🐊 and make so cool poses is disgusting. Those animals are not pets. You can go close to them just with local guide. The other section is the “pool” and I can’t go close to those ones as they are aggressive (well that’s their nature right?but it was fascinating to watch them fight and make so many different noises! The last “section “ is with babies which is hard to spot as they are hiding:)If you wish you can make an contribution which could help locals to maintain the area a feed those crocodiles.
Mad place, loved it!Health and safety? Hahaha, whats that!?
Great place
Lovely experience. The park itself is very small. Doesn’t take long to see everything. Crocs were cool. However they don’t move. Just very still. The owners says it’s because they are well fed.
Interesting place, museum, a few buildings where you can see history. Then you walk around and you see many crocodiles, put of the pool, with supervisor around you can touch them. A few shops around with souvenirs. Nice short activity to do.
Great pool that has been around for 400 years. Its origins are not touristy, as pool was created and used for local rituals and this gives the place an authentic vibe. According to the guide majority of crocs get out at the hottest part of the day (13:00-16:00). You might see baby crocodiles too. Crocodiles are not locked or caged and are free to roam, and even walk out into the neighbourhood during the rain season.
Nice place but be careful the guides are very aggressive if you have the misfortune of refusing to take a guide he will make you understand that you are not welcome and that you should not take a brief photo the tone is no longer the even when you refuse.I do not recommend this place.
Kachikally crocodile pool is supposed to be a sacred pool. Women who wish to have babies are directed to bath here early in the morning. The museum associated with the pool depicts an important part of the Gambian history.
Cool pool with many crocodiles roaming in it. Their handler will get them out of water for you and let your touch them if you dare. I dont advise doing it, as animals generally dont like being touched or contaminated by humans.Aside from the pool there is a very small park with a predefined path where some iguanas may be also spotted. Also, there is a museum at the entrance taking about Gambias history from different aspects. The entrance fee is 100 dalasi and gives access to the museum and the pool. No extra payments required.
Interesting museum, difficult neighborhood, very sad.
Amazing creatures if only the government can spend extra money so tourist can come regularly and make extra cash from the place
You cant visit The Gambia and leave without visiting this sacred place. Its the only place were crocodiles are more friendly to human beings. Theyve never been aggressive to people.
🇬🇲🇬🇲 #TheGambia🇬🇲🇬🇲🐊 #Kachikally 🌟Worth the visit if you want to get close to #crocodiles . ⭐️its 20 min away from the capital #Banjul 🌟the entry cost is 50 Dalasi per person 🌟Dont get scared when you entered the southern section of Bakau Old Town .you can touch , take pictures up close with the corcodilesits a amazing expericne to be serounding with 8-12 male crocodile 📒Need to know :This place is believed to be a sacred place by the locals who come and use the crocodile pool water to bath for fertility purposes.#BATW #Gambia #Nature
Amazing experience, you get to touch the crocodiles while the guides help take pictures of you. A perfect environment to just sit and enjoy nature.
Great place to see crocodiles face to face. Crocs are well fed, calm and safe to watch and even touch.
It was a very fascinating experience. You get to touch the crocodiles too! There has never been an incident so don’t panic.
My wife was on her birthday expedition, and wanted to see everything. She loved the whole experience.
Nice place to visit with over a hundred crocodiles in and around a pool. Some of them can be touched. There have been crocodiles here for almost 400 years. A visit to the pool takes not more than 15 minutes, but there also a very nice museum about the history of Gambia and it’s culture. And don’t forget to see the giant tree!
Kachikally crocodile pool is an awesome place. Very friendly crocodile in their natural habitats. The only aggressive ones are the ones with little ones or those whose eggs have been taken away in a bid to control the population. It also has a place where its believed that those who are looking for the fruit of the womb can take a bath using water from the pool and such person desire will be granted. The surroundings, especially the very old tree was a joy to behold
The place is awesome, something I couldnt believe, touching a live crocodile 🐊...
Nice place, many crocodiles. The access is not easy. The museum is not about crocodiles.
Oh i had fun. Lovely place. However theres need for more publicity and funding for the place
Friendly crocodile pond with some spiritual side.
This is a local tourist attraction for those who would be staying in either Bakau or Cape Point. The cost is 100 Dalasi ($2which includes the entrance to the museum and the crocodile pond. The museum is rather basic showing photos, musical instruments, tribal masks, and juju amulets. The crocodiles are fed fish in the early morning. Be aware there is a visitors book where they will try to get you to give more money, although it is not required.
You can almost touch the crocodiles.
It was interesting to get up close to the crocodiles. Also there is a small museum with interesting facts/ history of Gambia also a selection of musical instruments.
Don’t walk here unless u don’t mind getting hassled by the local kids.Very good value at a couple of quid each.Guide very friendly, not pushy
Great place to visit. You can can get lose to the crocodiles and there is a small museum with local artefacts.
It was a great experience having to stand so close to a live crocodile, and even have the privilege to touch it.
Great experienceThe people that work there are friendlyWould recommend
Crocs.... they only eat fish....not people. It was great to see the sacred pool, and stoke the powerful crocs. And there is a big white albino croc called Charlie.
Great day out entry fee about £2 per person
The crocodiles parc is a Beautiful place nevertheless warning of the crocodile...Good thing it is supervise because animals are freely left what is also a good thing.
Small place but with a nice park and museum. You can touch a crocodile.
Amazing! You can actually walk AMONGST snoozing 🐊 crocodiles. As you enter the park you can first take a look in some small buildings where you are presented with old photos and artifacts that give you the whole history of the The Gambia 🇬🇲.
Seeing is believing. These are crocs that are non meat eaters and they are so calm.
great opportunity to get up close and personal with a croc
Great place to learn about crocodiles
If you have children they will love it. Except to spend maximum of 1 hr its not that big a place. The roads into park itself are terrible its set in a very poor area and parts of the road have sewage water running in open channels.
Stupid cheap.. i think it costed about 75p for two people plus a guide and driver. You cant ask for more than this. Really cool museum too!
