Georgia, K'ut'aisi
Clifftop orthodox monastery dating to circa 590 CE, featuring bas-relief carvings on the facade.
Symbolic sacred site of Tbilisi that protects from all dangers
The church has an impressive location above the town of Mtskheta and the confluence of two rivers. However, it is not very interesting in itself, and during our week in Georgia we visited a number of more beautiful churches and monasteries. But its definitely worth a short stop.
Best view in Tbilisi is available here and dont miss the place. Really stunning scenery. No words to explain the Beauty of Convergence of 2 rivers which can be seen from the hill. Public transportation is not available to this place. So, Use masrutka from Tbilisi to mtsketa. From there get a taxi for max 20 lari for up and down to jvari monastery .
Place was still closed when I arrived, contrary to google map info (I submitted the correction and now times are correct). Views are stunning.
A well preserved, very old building. There is a lot of history in the entire complex, and it was good to visit as part of our tour. Not only is the building itself interesting, but you also get nice views of the surrounding area, the rivers and towns below, from its vantage point on a hill.
Very nice views from monastery
Nice place to visit in Georgia. From there you have a great view on the valley and the old capital of the country Mtskhela.
Beautiful place.. Great history and great archirecture. Georgia is a beautiful country.
The best place to get a view on the merging of Mtkvari and Aragvi Rivers. The monastery itself is very old (VI centuryand full of history. A must visit place in Mtskheta. Lots of childhood memories of this monastery from the school excursions.
This is a really nice little monastery to visit. Architecturally very interesting (though austere). Well worth the visit.
An ideal to get there but the view is worth it. The monastery is worth 5 minutes maybe, unless youre an expert. But the view of the town, rivers, highway and cathedral is memorable. Free, 12GEL taxi to get up there. Beware taxis dont wait for you and they dont like to go up there to get you. Took us 4 times to get a bolt driver to collect us, during the middle of the day, good weather. Could be very tricky getting back.Oxide the are for busses, private guides and independent travelers so perhaps beef a ride back to town.
The view is breathtaking from this highest point of the town. However, there is only one way to hit the place - by taxi, and it costs no less than 20 laris. Its crowded there and the whole visit might last less than 10 minutes.
Beautiful Place. It’s situated on a hilltop so the view is amazing. Close to Tbilisi, so well worth a visit! An UNESCO heritage site
Definitely worth visiting, if only for the view of the confluence of rivers, the small town, and the cathedral. The "lake" beside the monastery is dried up, the entire hill looks dessicated and barren (on a sunny, hot August 2022 day). Lots of tourists but not crowded, lots of vendors, horses and feral dogs too. Wedding parties frequently visit for photos. Maybe 100m climb from parking lot, quite easy. We took bus to the mall, bolt (Georgian Uberto the site, only 10GEL. Bolt done to the town took 20mins, more difficult. Hiking doable but a very long way from main road.
Holy place,ancient history. Amazing sights🫶
nice place to see the old church and top view of the river
Well maintained and preserved, with lot of history
Amazing view of the two rivers
It was must visit monarchy’s in the top hill view. The view outside was really worth. It was so beautiful. 😍❤️
Must seeVery nice
Holy and beautiful place to visit
It was indeed a quite blissful environment with cool breeze and breathtaking view around the monastery as its located on hill top !!!
It is very very hot when we visited however amazed by the history of the location as this place connects Turkey, Tbilisi and baku
Its an UNESCO heritage site and its currently under partial renovation. Its quite close from tbilisi.I would recommend you to walk by the monastery and shop for some souvenirs and wine too. Please do try out wine ice cream. Its really nice and just 5 lari
excellent views of the confluence of Mtkvari and Aragvi, Mtskheta, the mountains. If the weather is good, the peaks of the Greater Caucasus are sometimes visible. If the weather is exceptionally good, sometimes Mount Kazbek is visible, it is about 200 km away, but the mountain is high (5047 mand if there are no clouds, it can be seen occasionally.
Many tourists, should go there early morning
Very crowded on the weekend, but gives a great view of the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi River, and the town of Mtskheta.Lovely Orthodox church as well
I was told its the oldest church in Georgia that is made of stone. It has the nicest scenery Ive seen in Georgia. Its based near the old capital of Georgia, Mstkheta, which was a beautiful city too.
Jvari Monastery stands on the rocky mountaintop at the confluence of the Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, overlooking the town of Mtskheta, which was formerly the capital of the Kingdom of Iberia.
Amazing place to be, overlook of green hills, river down the lawnSuperb
Jvari Monastery is a sixth-century Georgian Orthodox monastery near Mtskheta..Jvari is aan Early Medieval Georgian church that has survived to the present day almost unchanged. The church became the founder of its type, the Jvari type of church architecture, in Georgia.Built atop of Jvari Mount (656 m), from where one can view beautiful river views of Kura in Mtsketa .
A beautiful monastery, well preserved and with many beautiful carvings. It’s situated on a hilltop so the view is understandably amazing. There’s quite a lot of people but not overcrowded. Close to Tbilisi, so well worth a visit!
An atmosphere that takes you back to those old ages. Spending some time inside the monastery will shed inner peace onto one
Very beautiful and serene as are all the churches in Georgia. Lots of tourists around and beautiful views for stunning pictures. Little stalls outside the parking area eith fruits juices and Georgian gifts. A bit overpriced but good quality
It is a true place of power. Very ancient architecture still remains monumentic and unbelievable. From the top place you can have a look at Mtsheta, where Aragvi and Mtkvari rivers mix with each other. Since they have different origin and colour, it looks magnificent. Djvari monastery itself has a lot to tell you.
At Jvari Monastery is where we started our day; the Monastery is perched atop a hill overlooking Mtskheta; there is no fee to visit. A must-visit, it takes less than an hour to tour this location, beautiful view overlooking the valley below and the snow-capped mountains in the far distance3btraveler
Beautiful old monastery. You can hitch hike to get to the top or hike, yet I found only the way along the road. It can be very windy and cold in winter. However, the view is worth it
30 minutes road trip away from the capital Tbilisi. The scenic spot is free of admission. You can enjoy the cold weather and the beautiful city of Mtskheta from this angle point.A beautiful vantage point that you should visit in your Georgian trip.
Very beautiful and amazing viewsMust visit and see around
An old landmark on top of the mountain, the view is amazing on Mtskheta city; try the fresh squeezed juices but don’t be fooled by the prices; ask before they squeeze
Like all beautiful things, it takes efforts; but once you get up here the view is wonderful. The monastery retains all the charm of the Orthodox architectural tradition and is a place of mystical beauty: here feel close to heaven. The church is very old, was built at the beginning of VII cent. and it is UNESCO heritage.
Jvari Monastery is listed in UNESCO world heritage list. It is one of the oldest and most famous sanctuaries of Georgia, it dates back to the VI century AD. It has amazing views to Mtkvari and Aragvi rivers, Svetitskhoveli Cathedrali and Mtskheta city.
The church from the fifth century, this is what we have been told. The area by its self is wonderful… you can see two rivers intersect.
Its about 30 minutes drive from tbilisi. Very old monastery on top of the hill. It gives a good view of the old capital mtshekta and the river. There is nothing much to be done other than sight seeing the place
Amazing must do, out of Tbilisi (20 km. One of most antique churches in the country. Good views on the village. The best view of the church is from far away when you are arriving or leaving the place. You must came by private driver and take the opportunity to also get go know the village itself, and it gorgeous church.
The place is to be visited if you came to Georgia. Quite suitable if you go to/from Gudauri. Its hard to describe the view, you should feel it, confluence of the rivers is smth unbelievable, you can observe two different colors of Aragvi and Kura rivers and Mtskheta view. The monastery is beautiful, interesting architecture, Id recommend to visit on sunny day, enjoy)
One of the most spiritual places in Georgia. The energy of this place is amazing. You must visit here. And its best to do it at sunrise or sunset. It is very easy to pray or meditate here!
The Jhvari monastery is a UNESCO World Heritage site and is located just 15 minutes drive by car/taxi from Tbilisi. Situated on top of a hill, overlooking Mtskheta (the ancient Capital of the East Georgian Kingdom), the monastery offers a superb view of a picturesque landscape featuring mountains and the confluence of 2 rivers; highly recommended 👍
Nice old church. Very windy the time we visited.Enjoy the view of the two lakes join a a point. One of the popular tourist spot.Every one can enjoy. Good spot for your photography skills. Near by the tiblisi city. Would love to visit it again and spend more time#giorgia #church #photography
A historic world heritage site with an amazing viewA quick stop on the way to Mtskheta, which is the old capital of Georgia. The Monastery was built in the sixth century, it is listed as a World Heritage site by UNESCO.The view from the top of the hill is astonishing, overlooking the old city of Mtskheta and the intersection of the two rivers.
