Loved the vibe and the food, especially the pizza, it was so good. The room we stayed in for the night had too many creepy-crawlies for my liking but if thats your type of thing then youll definitely enjoy the stay.
DJ at the bar made my evening very enjoyable. Knows his music and can read a crowd
The rooms were okay, but some places were dirty, the toilet wasnt cleaned, but the service was great
Yoooo I’m screaming🗣🗣🗣, please visit this place everytime you in PSJ. It sooth everything out. The vibe is accommodative in every aspect and let’s talk about their 🍕 Pizza. So mouthwatering, so everything lovely you can think n need. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
Creative and artsy, this backpackers is filled with charm. It includes dorm rooms with shared bathrooms but also two rooms with ensuite if you prefer that. Monkey View has fantastic views and it was just lovely staying in such a beautifully created space.
The Jungle Monkey Backpackers is a vibrant establishment in the heart of Port St Johns. It boasts a little plunge pool, a pool table, a bar that serves cocktails, and some epic cheesey pizzas! From the upper deck you get view over the tree tops of the ocean waves coming into the Mzimvubu River mouth. My stay here was unfortunately tainted by the disappearance of my hiking shoes, which severely affected the rest of my joinery down to Hole in the Wall. Lockers would be very useful for travellers staying in the dorms. The kitchen facilities for guests werent too great - it was small and cluttered, and rotting food had been abandoned by previous guestsStayed here on the 23-25 November 2019Subsequently revisited on the 4 July 2022 for pizza and drinks.
Order the pizza, thank me later. nom nom nom 😋
Nice pla e to chill. Great bar and restaurant
Had fun even though the company was awful. Enjoyed myself. Because of the vibe.
One of the most friendly lady who cares about guests Nogwina wooow Sisi keep it up
Spectacular place to visit with friends and family. The place has therapeutic scenery from the balcony and serene music. You can pass time while waiting to be served by playing pool or taking pictures around and of the placeIt would be helpful if the staff would be more informative instead of giving basic answers and not pick on customers based on how often they visit the place if they need to be served.Be mindful of the children playing in the pool incase you do not want to catch any splashes
its a very nice place to chill with friends and family
I was terribly dissapointed by what has become of one of the hotspots in Port St Johns. This place used to be the mecca for local and international tourists alike. Sadly, although pretty well kept, the vibe is gone. The staff are racist and will not wait on whites, at some point I was literally told that whites are no longer welcome there as the place now belongs to blacks. I was horrified at how a well known spot has become a dumping ground for racist Port St Johns low class locals. If you are white, dont even bother going there.
Great place, neat, and provide great food. Ever since I knew it I have never used any other backpacker in PSJ.
Was great 👍, wouldve been more fun if they didnt close so early on weekends
The first time I came to this place I was invited by Njabs and Bads for breakfast. I was not doing well at all but they made me smile that day.Oh my goodness, the food!! So delicious.... I also enjoy the sea view. And recently I was invited by a friend of mine from church, they were celebrating a friends birthday. We enjoyed ourselves though we had little time as it was on a Sunday evening. Thanks to their friendly Staff, they served us well.Jonga,,,,,,,if you want the best pizza in Port Saint Johns, run to Jungle Monkey Backpackers darling!!! Sobe uzisole👌🏼👌🏼👌🏼
Well! I had my first date with my now wife 6 years ago. The place is just a vibe
Not sanitary at all , building is falling apart, not safe for families, bathroom and living area is not up to standards .

Fries here are to die for . Forget your diet and just enjoy the food here
Wow, what a place. Awesome vibe, great food and friendly staff, and the venue itself is such a gem, its been redone I believe because it burnt down a few years back, all in all a chilled space to come and wind down, or up😊Jungle Monkey has my 👍

Great vibe and an a great place to relax. Great for backpackers and tumble-ins. Can be a bit rowdy bit all part of the vibe.
Not great for families. Dorms too close to bar. Loud music and noise till 3am!
Very cool place, amazing rooms and views. Great pizza.

We felt very welcome, the owner Mister G and his stuff are super friendly. We felt very lucky to stay there. THX
First time coming Port St Johns and staying here. The town was absolutely filthy and the beach was strewn with litter. Was disgusting and upsetting :(The accommodation was alright. Paid for a room and the view was amazing but there was no hot water and no towels to use. The have a bar facility with pool table, 2 x pools with a lounge to relax in.Overall,it was a welcoming stay but missed the small eassentials such a hot water and a towel in the room. Its located near the 1st beach, and close to the shops, but even coming from Kzn we were too scared to go shopping as the area was manic with so many people that we just used what we had left. This used to be a small, quiet, clean town but now is busy, dirty and very noisy. Most upset about the dirty surroundings though.
Average Backpackers with all facilities needed. Dorms, seperate rooms and a tented room to boot. Unfortunately, the town of PSJ disappointed with its filth, which does no favours for my impressions of staying here.
A typical backpackers...clean and tidy rooms...various low budget price options..Papa G always has goog stories to tell. Not much scenery..but close to town.
Nice place with a very nice view from the terrace where you can chill while listening to good music. The staff is really friendly, if you are arriving late make sure you eat before arrival because the kitchen closes quite early.
Lovely place beautiful clean rooms, close to town. Amazing deck with a great sea view.
Didnt stay over but visited the plac and enjoyed a beer and pizza. Theres good energy and friendly people. Very welcoming :-)
Cool place. Seems a bit old or run down but clean and friendly staff
The place is very nice and the view is very beautiful, but their food takes very long to be ready
Great place to stay. Friday eve was very noisy till 1pm but then what can one expect during Christmas holiday season. Rooms at the back of the complex much quieter. Love the variety of rooms on offers. Privet rooms + dorms. Price very reasonable. Owner Pappa G and staff all very accommodating. Recommended.
Do not eat here. This is by far the worst restaurant experience Ive had.- had to draw the servers attention away from his cellphone in order to place an order.- after being told that the food will take 15-20 min, the order was only placed after 20 min.- the chilli sauses cap is stripped, and thus my plate and clothes got drenched in sause.- when the food arrived, the medium rare steak was raw, and the medium steak was well done.- I requested for my steak be cooked a bit more and it was placed in the microwave.- I then ordered a hamburger and watched it standing for long enough for the chips to get cold until I asked if it was my burger that stood there.
Very centrally located, and affordable. Beautiful views of the beach from the bar and pool area, and of the town below.
Situated on top of a hill. You can have a clear view of the see. User friendly landscape. Last but not least friendly staff.
This is One of The places ypu have to stay if you are gping to visit south africa! The Service is awesome, the people are super friendly, The view is awesome. We have been there and wont Miss it! Thank you so much to All The nice people around here! Monky view room for The Win!
I have visited Jungle Monkey twice already; once before the fire last year and also now as I write this review. It is true that it is not the same as it used to be, however it is still a very good backpackers. "Pappa G" has big plans to restore and improve it. I will always choose Jungle Monkey simply because of friendly staff as well as the cleanliness and good atmosphere. Keep it up Pappa G! :)
Jungle Monkey backpackers is a very different place to the one I visited last year and previous years before that before the fire. I know that they are rebuilding etc.. but with the old partners gone it now seems to have lost a bit of its soul. What a shame, that place used to rock and I used to recommend it to everyone!! The accommodation is ok but the showers could do with hot water. The food is ok.
The Hostel or backpackers is still being renovated but the staff are very friendly and helpful. I would recommend it to those looking for very affordable accommodation.
