José Martí Memorial in Guines

I was really disappointed. I am a huge fan of socialist architecture, urban design, urban photography and high-rise buildings. Therefore, going up to the visitor’s platform was among my Top 3 things to do during my holidays in Cuba! As you can probably imagine it was closed. Unfortunately, you don’t really find any information about it on the internet. It still is a very impressive building, though!

We only saw it from the outside and from the street but it is pretty monumental.

Night viewing this place from the Revolution Square was great. No groups of tourists and you can view the whole monument lit up.

The José Martí Memorial is located in the center of Plaza de la Revolución Square. It is a huge monument almost 142 meters tall and 78,50 in diameter, and so the tallest structure in all of Havana- unfortunately we couldnt get close to it.

athis placed was called the Civic Plaza and was later claimed by the Castro Regime. This is the place where millions have marched against their will on every May 1st parade. Cuban workers get taken from their jobsites and sent to march here under penalty of losing their lousy jobs or worst.

The tower is 142 m high you can see with the elevator up to the top and all of Havana

I visited The Memorial back in 2010, but still remember this nice experience, it was a good decision to see this place. I visited the top of the tower which has a beautiful view over Havana city.

He was very politically active, and is considered an important revolutionary philosopher and political theorist. Through his writings and political activity, he became a symbol of Cubas bid for independence against Spain in the 19th century, and is referred to as the "Apostle of Cuban Independence."

Very beautiful architecture with a great view of Havana. The museum on the floor level is very educational and makes it very easy to understand the history of Cuba and Jose Marti’s achievements. Guided tours in English are available for free though you’re expected to tip.

Great monument for possibly the most iconic figure in Cuba! Jose Marti was a Cuban writer and activist that is considered to be the root of the war of independence against Spain.

Best view of La Habana. I enjoyed very much my visit to José Martí Memorial, the air condition on the top of the monument is GREAT, it cooled me off from the intense heat of the mid-day. The Havana Bird Eye View from the top of this monument is similar to the view from the Eifel Tower in Paris 🇫🇷.This is a place that must be visited while in Cuba 🇨🇺.

Beautiful memorial!! Very educational and gives a great history of all the things Jose Marti did for Cuba in his life time. Great man!

Great views over Havana and the square below. Lift costs 3CUC per person and there were quite a few queuing when we went so be prepared to wait a while if it’s busy (was a Tuesday morning in April too).

The vast Plaza de la Revolucion is surrounded by grey administrative buildings that today house some of the most important off6of Cubas vast governmental bureaucracy. The square is dominated to the north by the Jose Marti Memorial. A tall tower built from gray granite stones stands in front of the Palace of Revolution, the seat of the Cuban Government. The Natuonal Library, Cubas largest, and several other important government buildings are also located in the vicinity.

There is a military guard at the top, so you can not get that close. Reach about the history of the memorial.

Visit the top!

Its a must on your Cuba bucket list. Its across from Revolution Plaza. If you take the elevator up the tower you have amazing views of Havana.

This airport has very limited facilities, so come prepared.

Fantastic place to over look Havana

An elegant memorial dedicated to a true hero of the revolution in Cuba. Take a vintage car tour from the Havana Centro - youll see all the taxi collectivos queued in front of the Hotel Inglaterra and Hotel Row at the end of the Prado. Our tour guide took us to El Morro, the sculpture of El Christo de Havana, La Fronteleza, the Malecon, Havana Viejo ("Old Havana"), the Colon Cemetery . We finished at the Plaza de la Revolucion, where we saw the Jose Marti Memorial and the surrounding artworks of the revolution. Well worth a visit.

A very nice place, with historical meaning. You can go up with 3 cuc with the elevator. Must see. Nice view of Havana from there.

Very COOL MONUMENT. Very large art installation of Che at this place. I here mixed reviews of Che and if he was good or bad. I enjoyed EVERYTHING about HAVANNA. The neighbourhood is really nice located in a safe neighbourhood. Cant wait to explore more of Havana next time

Great way to get a 360° view high above Havana, Cuba

The José Martí Memorial is an important place for all Cubans, the place itself is a testament of how much we admire our apostle and national hero. As a Cuban is hard to me to be impartial towards this place in this review but, is a place that I can recommend to all visitors in the island who are interested in getting in touch with the culture and history of this amazing country.

For a short visit. Be aware of the heat, prepare some water and think about umbrella :-)

Monumental monument to the Cuban revolution in the spirit.

Ive been here a couple of times, sadly it was closed on my most recent visit. The memorial has a museum on the ground floor and offers great views from the top of the tower. One image that is worth seeing is of Fidel Castro speaking to a crowd of one million people in the Plaza de la Revolución from the stairs out front.

Jose Marti Memorial is tower in a star-shaped plan, which is the tallest structure in Cuba. The ground floor is an exhibition hall about Jose Marti. However, due to the damage of elevator, it is not allowed to go up to the viewing terrace at the top floor of structure...where you suppose can have a panoramic view over the city.

Have few people on this square. This square is huge and majestic.

Another very beautiful place in Cuba.

Plaza de la Revolución is a pretty barren spot used chiefly for national parades and demonstrations. Its dominating feature is the José Martí memorial, a rather ugly (IMHOstone clad concrete tower, that formed the centre piece of a massive urban development of the district which was completed in the 1950s. José Martí, whos effigy can been outside every school in the country, is a national hero who, though not a soldier, was killed during the War of Independence against Spain in 1895. On the ground floor of the tower are displays relating to the life of Martí and the planning and development of the plaza and tower. You can ascent to the upper levels of the tower via a lift to get rather truncated views of the city (due to the narrow windowsand a close up look at the vultures that hover and perch at those heights. Worth a visit if in the area.
