Japanese shabu-shabu simmers atop this high-ceilinged, industrial-style restaurant's bar.
The food was great and the staff was wonderful
Great as always. So glad to have gotten to eat there while back in LA. Best Shabu in town, their homemade sauces cannot be beaten! If you like garlic get the nikuniku!
Nice quality meats and veggies with great service.
The place was spotless and I could tell the owner and staff take cleaning and presentation seriously. The food was fresh and delicious. The amount of sauces were a nice selection to pick from. Ordering was simple and in that simplicity the food really took the spotlight. Will definitely be coming back.
Amazing food quality and service every time!
So much fun! And delicious...fresh and tasty!
Not bad. We had a satisfying meal here. It was clean and the servers were nice. You get a healthy meal and the portions are good. You order a meat as your entree (we ordered Angus beef and joon beef, which is fattier-- we liked it). And with that you get purple rice and a big plate of veggies and a noodle. It was definitely nice for a meal but given the price it wasnt as good value as in all you can eat place like All That Shabu. For this pricing, I was hoping for much better quality. But the broth is just plain Dashi. The food is good and decently fresh but the options are basic. There isnt even corn with the veggie platter. While I was there I missed going to places that had more variety. It would be fine if this place were a little cheaper but its pretty much similar pricing compared to all you can eat so I would just rather do that.If you are in Glendale and craving shabu-shabu, this is a fine choice.
Go eat here. You won’t regret it. Amazing shabu place in Glendale. The staff is so friendly and so attentive and so kind. The Joon IPPAI is for sure the best deal. And their sauces are awesome. My fav are the Goma and Ninniku. And I LOVE their black rice! You can sub things out on your veggie plate if you don’t like certain things but love other parts. I love that it’s individual pots for soup. Love taking my friends here when they visit LA/Glendale area.
This was to a great place to go and have some Shabu. The sukiyaki was really good also
This is the best ramyon ever guys... Thanks a lot for your doing 🔥🔥🔥
The place is so good my daughter invited me here but I wasn’t sure then I tried the food and I loved it. Everything was delicious. We went during lunch time and it was great
Always Great food & great service! Come here you won’t regret it
Great hot pot place! The service was amazing and the servers very helpful.
Went in with my family and it was great. They provide samples of all their sauces, of which you get to choose 2 for your meal. The meat and veggies are fresh, and additional orders of rice are free! You get to customize your broth the way you like it, and each person gets their own individual pot. If I had to complain, Id say its the pot being a bit too far and making it difficult for me to grab stuff from it without spilling, but they give you bowls and utensils so its part of the experience. Overall, I was satisfied with the food and customer service.
I came here at night, staff was super friendly, the restaurant was super clean and when you walk in you can already smell how good the food is. Super healthy food as well, they give a great amount of greens and noodles. The meat is so tasty.
Excellent Shabu Shabu place. This had been a first time since 2019 that I have been back and the location was lively and the owner, Kevin, was there to greet us as well. Highly Recommended.
This place was quiet the experience. This is a place where you basically make your own Ramen noodle soup. You sit at the bar or table and begin to boil your broth and make your selection of meats and veggies. Then you can add in your sauces are garlic and a whole bunch of other stuff. Its kind of like KBBQ version of soup. The staff is super friendly and will guide you on how to make your broth just right.
This is THE best shabu place Ive been to. Ive been going since 2016 and the quality and attention that they put into their customers experience shows. Theres never been a decrease in the quality of ingredients. The staff is always so attentive. I have tried so many shabu places and continue to go back. At this point, this is the only place Ill go eat shabu at.
Shabu shabu is pretty solid here. Each entree comes with black rice and two sauces. I found the soyo sauce to taste the best. The ponzu had a strange flavor to me today but I usually love ponzu. The ninniku sauce is just like garlic mayonnaise. The umami sauce was like a bbq sauce. The only thing I’d change about the meal is the portion of noodle. I would like more. But that can also be supplemented with the black rice that comes with each meal. The food was totally enough though. The only other thing I’d change are the stools. They hurt. Other than that, service and food was great. I was there 8yrs ago and I was there today. I will come again… hopefully it will not take another 8yrs.
Ive been dying to try this place. Every time I walk buy . Their food smells so good. Its always crowded pretty much.I finally came here today. I made sure to come hungry. Its a little pricey but so worth it. Very great customer service. Everyone is so nice and helpful. This place is very clean and a great environment. Nice music to go with a perfect meal.Ive never had Shabu. It was very new to me. The waitress was very helpful she showed me what I was supposed to do. Its pretty cool. All the vegetables and meat are top quality. They dipping sauces are all great. They let you sample them all. You will definitely find one you like.I was so full I couldnt move lol. I felt great. II definitely will be back here. I highly recommend this place.
AMAZING AMAZING AMAZING. this is my first time trying shabu shabu and wow. I couldn’t be more satisfied. The staff is super friendly and they explain everything to you. This place is great! I got the ippai and I honestly recommend it if you are a meat lover like myself. Overall will be coming back. Wait was not bad at all. It was a 20 min wait for 3 people. Will be coming back to try other options. Overall a great experience.
I love this place! Great food, reasonable prices, and friendly employees. I will be back! Thank you so much Joon Shabu Shabu ☺️
Joon Shabu Shabu is a great hotpot restaurant. The staff is very friendly and Boss Kevin took great care of us. The service exceeded my expectations because they went above and beyond. Its fairly priced and the food is delicious! Will definitely go back here the next time Im in Glendale.
Super friendly staff. Ive been to Shabu all over the world, this is probably the first and only place that offers a garlic sauce (maybe to pay homage to the local community?). Either way the sauce worked quite well! I was pleasantly surprised! Who would think that Glendale has good Shabu!
This was recommended by my brother and we finally had a chance to try Joon today. What a great, delicious experience. 2 Shabu bars-high/low-We went high. There were 5 types of dipping sauces-2 complimentary per order but they all were so tasty decided to do all 5 ($1.50 for the 5th sauce)Jason gave us a sampling flight so we can decide. For our mains we opted for the Dinner Angus portions. Jason, our server, gave us some quick 101 tips and even prepped the water broth by mixing in a couple sauces, which were so tasty. I really like how generous they are with the condiments (especially the chopped fresh garlic 😋😋The Angus was well portioned as were the vegetables. Kevin, the owner, came by and checked on us. What a nice man and we really appreciated that. Parking is very easy. There are meters on the street and a public lot across from the restaurant, also meters, I think. They were really conscientious in spacing guests far enough apart. 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼
They are open! Tonights dinner was so satisfying! Staff are attentive as before. Excellent service! Great food! Happy Hour still on until 7:00pm. Come and support this great community!!!!
This is absolutely my favorite restaurant, no other hot pot places compare! I was so bummed when they closed during the pandemic and would constantly check to see when they would re-open (if they would ever reopen). Im so relieved they survived and made it through.
Fresh meat, custom soup base, and great purple rice. One of the best shabu shabu I ever had in the US! My family would have shabu shabu two, three times a week back in Taiwan, and I am glad to find this amazing shabu shabu!
Have dinner yesterday with six people, the lady server told me gratitude will be add it , total bill is $251 including $ the 38 gratitude, i paid that n left early. I told my guess everything is taking care off, later on they told me that the manager said the tip have not been paid, doudle charge for tips .
They are back!!!! Go support this delicious place. The food & the service were always on point and it’s just like before Covid; they are freaking amazing. It’s clean like before and they are all in masks.
Moved to Glendale two years ago and found this spot shortly thereafter.I love this place. LOVE.Its fun and healthy and the staff are really cool with me clowning them (They fire right back. Ha Ha)Covid closure since March...BOOOO.I keep checking back and the re-open date keeps slipping back. Now it says January first 2021.I hope they can survive this.Nice people...Great Food. The restaurant business is dying.Open it up for Gods sake.
Havent been out for Shabu Shabu in a while, but I recognize good quality and great service when I see it! What a lovely experience! Easily as good as many of the Shabu Shabu houses in Little Tokyo. Go here, theyre close, theyre good, theyre generous with portions and their prices are reasonable! Win win win.
This place is good. I wouldn’t call it a traditional Shabu Shabu house but it’s close enough. I ordered the Angus Beef and for $28 for a large dinner it’s reasonably priced. The Angus Beef had good marble and an excellent taste. What sets this place apart from more traditional Shabu Shabu house is the ability to spruce up your base with a couple of soup bases that they provide for you. One leans spicy while the other is more savory with a little bit of sweetness to it. They also offer 4 or 5 dipping sauces. I tried the Goma and the Soya...both leaned sweet and they don’t really give you a lot of it. Service is good.
Now that its Autumn and the weather is slightly getting colder, this place hits the spot. The veggies and meat.. you cook it and dip it. Goma and ponzu sauce work for me. I do the udon as well. Put it all together and enjoy. 😁
This has become one of my new favorite Shabu-Shabu spots. The food was tasty and good quality as well as being fairly priced for the portions. They have great sauces. And I was really impressed with their service. I read some reviews complaining about it but I all I can say is that my drink was never empty before being refilled (and I drink like a camel). You cook your own food in front of you, so dont come here expecting them to do it for you.
We wanted to share the sukiyaki pot and they said yes which was awesome! Me and my friend usually dont eat much during lunch and this was perfect. I hope they do this regularly since paying $30 with tip for lunch is too.much for us working people.
Unlike conventional hot pot places, the broth of this place is not the focus at all. Instead, the whole experience is centered around their selection of unique and amazing sauces. I was a bit thrown off by this at first, and though having been to and enjoyed Joon multiple times I was hesitant to give a review. I was used to expensive whole ingredients cooked for ridiculously long hours to infuse the broth with nutrition and flavor. The two cans of sauce that flavor the soup broth at Joon just seemed cost saving a lazy to me. I do enjoy their specialty sauces though, and the meat/assorted vegetable is always at a high enough quality where I feel justified giving this place a 5 star. Despite the heavy traffic, the servers always try their best to not take a long time and make sure youre well taken care of. I do wish their assorted vegetable plate would be more consistent (at least list whats going to be in it), but I guess its seasonal and it helps eliminate waste.
Never fails to satisfy! Broth flavor is spot on, as are the sauces. Portions are enough to be filling but not in a heavy way that makes you regret eating it.Parking is not good, theres a small garage with limited spaces, otherwise youll be at the mercy of street parking.Theres usually a long line during peak hours and making a reservation sometimes might be needed.
Not usually a fan of the soup type of dishes but this place incorporates lots of sauces and sides so it makes it an experience while eating. Some may say its not ideal to have to keep dipping items or checking if its cooked but otherwise a great dining experience for most I would say.
Great first experience. It was busy and waited for half an hour. It was delicious and the service very good they always check with you if you need anything. All the vegetables looked and taste fresh. The meat was frozen as they always do to slice them. It had great color the right amount of fat and very good flavor. This is our new favorite place to visit again.
This review is based on my first and only experience here. Also I had a vegetarian shabu shabu pot for reference. They give you 5 different sauces for you to sample before you pick 2 sauces for dipping. They give you full control to flavor your broth to your liking and so nothing is in the water before you decide to go to your flavortown. The host was great and explained how everything works and even asked me if I wanted a vegetarian based stock. I recommend Udon, but Im sure you shabu shabu lovers already knew that. Everything is hands on and almost like a science experiment that you get to eat. Its a fun and delicious time.
First time Ive tried shabu shabu. This was a great new experience for me. The food was wonderful, and the service was impeccable. They took the time to explain the menu and the concept for my wife and I. They have vegan, meat, and seafood menu alternatives. The food is brought raw to your table and you cook it yourself in a pot of boiling water with your choice of sauces. Additionally, there is a choice of dipping sauces. The meats are sliced very thin so cooking is almost instantaneous, then dip and eat. Just wonderful
Friendly service, delicious food and a rare shabu shabu treat that is accessible to vegetarians like us!
Love this place. As someone with a newly diagnosed soy allergy, I miss asian food dearly. This is the only current solution I know of and Im more than satisfied with that. Their veggies and meat is always fresh and staff is friendly and helpful.
Reasonably good Shabu Shabu. I like the variety of the sauces but its very hot inside (lack of air expulsion), made worse with boiling hot pots. On that note, the hot pots are a bit of a reach at the bar. Meats virtually evaporated/fell apart once they reached room temperature, which didnt take long with the warm conditions inside.
The best part about this shabu shabu place is getting to pick your sauces. My favorite sauce is the garlic paste. Its not all-you-can-eat, but I find with the veggies and the rice that comes with the meal, a regular is plenty to keep me full. Not great for groups bigger than 3 because youll all sit next to each other in a row, there arent booths or tables to sit across from each other.
Came here clueless as to what Im getting myself into. The person that brought me here had been here once before but she forgot how it works as well. The workers were friendly and helpful in understanding how the whole experience works. Even then we were still winging it and looking at other diners to see what theyre doing lol. The workers would walk around and every few minutes check up to see how we were doing.Soon a different gentleman, Kevin, came to see how we were enjoying our food and experience overall. I immediately was able to tell he owned the spot because of how personal he was and how he spoke of him hand selecting the salmon from his distributors. Its a nice feeling to have the owner of the restaurant come check and make sure his guests are getting the best experience possible. He even suggested to use a lot of the garlic sauce on the salmon.Definitely a fun experience and would recommend this to all. There are enough pictures on here so you can look through it all.My personal suggestion is that you just empty the entire plate in the pot and cook it all at once instead of doing it in portions. The water at the bottom still keeps the veggies nice and hot. The meat you can cook as you go.
Go-to Shabu place since I moved to Glendale about a year ago. Employees are friendly! Substitutions are easily accommodated (ex. replacing udon/noodle with vegetables). Make sure to order the dumplings ahead of time, as they take a bit longer! Feel free to ask for extra sauces!
Vegetarians and vegans beware! Most of their sauces have fish oil. They almost let it slip by but thankfully they told me before I could try it (I had to mention twice that I was vegetarian). Now, as for the food it was good; nothing special but it was good. Prices may be a bit more expensive than your average shabu shabu restaurant. The staff were really super nice! After they realized I was vegetarian and not pescetarian they were very careful in making sure that my food was 100% animal free.
Nice shabu shabu place that is reasonably priced. Each person has her/his own pot over an induction cooker that can be controlled. Good meat and fish options. The have both traditional and more unusual accompanying sauces. The staff was pleasant and helpful each time that weve visited.
